Piatti's gets an overall rating of 3.5. The food gets 4 stars. The ambiance gets a 3. The food was done very well and the service was great. My only complaint only has to do with the lack of coziness to the restaurant. Although it was very classy, it didn't feel anything like an Italian restaurant. We arrived in Mill Valley on a Friday night, and wanted a place within walking distance from our hotel (Acqua). Front desk recommended this place, and it didn't disappoint. We split a few appetizers, of which the shrimp crostini was particularly memorable, or rather the spicy sauce it was in. My personal highlight was the basil gimlet, a cocktail that screams summer, even if the temperatures didn't. Overall, it was a good call. Who would have thought that one of the highlights of the meal would be the bread and olive oil/balsamic vinegar dip at the beginning of the meal?! I was skeptical, as I didn't like the old Piatti. But the remodel has made the space much more romantic - much softer lighting, clean design. We ate in the bar and the food was great. The pizza with rosemary, radicchio, proscuitto was perfect. The fresh rosemary added a hearty and earthly flavor that wasn't overpowering, but wonderfully savory. I will definitely go back just for the pizza. I came here yesterday for Easter lunch. On the outside it looks like a Black Angus ...Sizzler...basically like a chain restaurant. So I was delighted when I got inside and saw how chic the place is. We started off with the calamari which was really good and the bread with the olive oil and I believe chili flakes is to die for. For a main course I had the Linguine w/Clams in a white sauce. It was tasty. And my friend and the gnocchi and it had pesto in it...wow such flavor! I had 2 martinis and others had the margarita which they seemed to enjoy. For desert we ordered the Nutella cheesecake. + some other butterscotch thingy. I'm not into sweets but, the rest of the table said it was very good. We had a great view of the water, our waiter was excellent and just an overall great dining experience. read more

Went back to Piatti for the first time since the renovation, and found that the only thing that seems to have changed is the warmth of the interior. The architect seems to have been hellbent on removing the last shred of humanity from the joint. The bar used to be a warm and inviting space with lots of places to sit and hang out. Now it's all stone and marble, with nothing but stools. I'm sure that plays out better for the hordes that descend upon the place at night, but wander in during the day and it just seems...cold. Which is why our group opted to meet outside on the back patio: Piatti's saving grace. Had a lunch meeting, which is always what I seem to be at Piatti for. Split a bunch of pizzas with the crew. Waiter was scarce. So scarce that over the course of one hour and forty-five minutes I ran out of time to order *the* reason to go to Piatti: Affogato - vanilla gelato drowned in espresso. Let me contextualize this for you: when my client called me over a week and a half out and told me we'd be meeting at Piatti, I began mapping out my plan for the Affogato. I planned my meals the day-of so that I would be hungry, but not too hungry at meeting time. I timed my order accordingly. And then our waiter did the great disappearing act(c)(tm), and I had to forego the delicious vanilla gelato, the ensuing sugar/caffeine buzz. That dessert would earn Piatti a bonus star from me. Daily happy hours and $20 3-course meals? Yay! I'm a fan.... The 3-course meal choices were 2 types of salad or soup, small pasta, and 3 types of dessert. Not skimpy portions, just the right size. Salad was simple, yet accentuated the freshness of the greens. The pasta was perfect al dente. Dessert I selected was a very good tiramisu. Perfecto! Ok. They've won me over. My first time there, we were a group of 4 and everyone loved it except me. My pasta was too al dente, so I sent it back. They sent it back again too al dente for my liking. We had some good wine and the views are good. I was pissed about the pasta and I wasn't going to go back. Now, I live about a mile from there and one day on a bike ride my girlfriend convinced me to stop there again. We had lunch on the patio. It was beautiful out. Our food was great and our service was great. We've ridden our bikes there a couple of times since and had good food at reasonable prices each time. For those who care, the views are better in the afternoons. Avoid low tide if you are in it for the views. read more

I had not been to Piatti's recently and it was a pleasure to return. - Drinks: We both had a delicious clementine up marguerita that was not too sweet and hit all the right notes. Just right for a Friday evening after a long work week. Afterward, had a glass of cabernet and the barman gave me a test..great....wish I could remember the name? - Food: Wonderful calamari and salty/crunchy delish ceasar salad along with some flatbread and a tirimisu. The food here was exceptional. I haven't had better gnocchi anywhere. It tasted as though it was freshly prepared at the restaurant. The butternut squash ravioli was also pleasantly sweet and tasty. The view over the bay is alright but the wait staff are a bit slow and the food took some time as well. I wasn't in a rush and wasn't too hungry so I had no issues with it. Bottom line: I will miss it when I'm done with my vacation out here :( read more

We were so excited to take our kids here after a nice dinner with neighbors. However, it was tough to get a reservation and even after being seated at a nice corner table, we didn't have a good experience. The corner was rotted due to obvious long-term water damage that led to a massive ant infestation, which plagued us during our entire dinner. The waitress seemed nonplussed. When one of our kids needed to use the bathroom, we found a rocking toilet (with only a 50 pound kid on it), which made us wonder if there were more structural issues in this waterfront restaurant. And to discover they're owned by Auberge de Soleil makes me think they can afford a handyman. The food was decent, but portions were small for the price. Good kids menu, though. With the other options in Marin, we won't be back. read more

I just went to Piatti's for the first time tonight. I normally frequent downtown Tiburon but thought I would branch out a bit. My friend Steve and I had dinner at the bar. It was mere coincidence I had just discovered yelp and read the review of Piatti's the day before. I have to agree Rafael was a great bartender. Witty and personable. Had great conversations with the fellow bar partrons; Jim, Barbara and George. Really enjoyed the Salcicce (sausage) pizza. Great drinks. Good views, great food, and a wonderful atmosphere. I wento to Piatti's on two separate occasions for lunch where both were great experiences. Upon arrival, the host seated my group very quickly with little to no waiting time. Ordering was not a hassle and the waiter was quick to return with appetizers and refreshments. Transitioning to the main course and to dessert was smooth and had no problems whatsoever. Pricing was very decent and will not break the bank. I absolutely love this place. I tried about 6 different. Dishes, and all where good. The salad I had was simple, but tasted fresh and was appropriate for the beginning of spring. All restaurants serve bread but this bread I had was light and fluffy. The main course I had was a linguine, with whit clams and a white wine sauce. The delicate sauce paired very well with the pleasantly tart clams. At my table we order 2 desserts that we shared. The first one I tried was a flour less cake with a coffee ice cream, the cake it's self was a little to sweet and very dense, but, the ice cream was superb and since the cake was sweet the ice cream compensated for the cake being sweet. read more

Came here to eat with a party after my cousin's bridal rehearsal. We got a private room behind the bar since we had a fairly large party. We had a set course with options to pick from (appetizer, main course, and dessert). I had the arugula salad as my appetizer which came with walnuts and strawberries, but there were more arugula than anything else, so it came off really bitter - it overpowered everything else and it wasn't tasty when i ate all the strawberries and walnuts in my salad. I also had their strawberry lemonade with blueberry puree, which was really watered down (probably too much ice) and didn't taste any blueberry at all - quite disappointing. I tried my younger cousin's melograno (non-alcoholic) which had ginger in it, which wasn't listed in the ingredients on the menu, so that's a bit misleading otherwise we wouldn't have ordered it because we don't like ginger. For the main course I had the salmon, which was tasty and the potatoes that came with it was good. My younger cousin had the chicken and it wasn't too dry, and the skin was crispy with decent mashed potatoes and veggies. What was disappointing was that my other tablemate had salmon but they left the skin of the salmon on the corner of her plate, which im sure wasn't on purpose - so I guess they didn't double-check before taking out the order to customers, tsk tsk. My sister has the spaghetti which decent, but the meatballs were too dry for me. Finally, the dessert - I had the chocolate cake, which was cold and probably refrigerated too long. I think I would've liked it warm better. Probably won't be back. On the brighter side, they have a nice view of the waters next to the restaurant and there's lots of parking, but the front of the restaurant's lot is primarily valet - I see what they did there.. trying to make extra money. So we parked a tiny bit further in the lot so we didn't have to bother with valet. Service was nice as well. read more

What a great find! Strolled by on an afternoon walk & it has after setting overlooking the water. Came back a few days later with friends & enjoyed a really great meal. Our party of six really enjoyed our meals & the pastas were outstanding. Typically a bolognese can be a little boring but not here. Fresh, fresh pasta & so flavoursome. The meatballs (app) & the spaghetti were standouts too...& they nailed the aperol spritz! Service was great, the host was really friendly (not at all snarly or pretentious), the food arrived quickly, they accommodated the kids nicely with colouring in pictures & crayons & they have complimentary valet. If I was just judging the bar and the outside seating - I would give this five stars. We were there on a BEAUTIFUL night and we also happened to be with super fun friends - so that made it one of my favorite nights in a long time. But I can't let that impact my review. We started off in the bar - and the bartenders were really nice and made delumptious drinks...we will go back there to just hang out at the bar and have appies, I'm sure. At our outside table, we started with the cheese plate and bottle of wine and our waitress was great - and let us just linger and enjoy the night. The food was okay. It wasn't bad, it wasn't really good, it was just okay. I really wish they could kick it up a notch cause it's really a good atmosphere with good peeps. Been here a few times and it is time to give them a review. Start with nice folks of valet parking and very welcoming receptionist. I always make reservation or go during off peak hrs since the place is usually packed. Just love the lake view. I will sit outside if there is any table available. The food is decent but very good value for the money. I always hv their pizza and risotto to go with Napa wine. Honestly, I think the food in SF is better but it is hard to find a nice restaurant with a complete package of good surrounding, decent food and good service. Keep on the work! read more

We had our son's and daughter-in-law's rehearsal dinner at Piatti, Mill Valley, and everything could not have been more perfect! To start with, Kristin, the event Coordinator, was always prompt in responding and quick in accommodating our requests to ensure that our event was a success! The day of our event, we stopped by ahead of our event, to drop off some items, and we were met by the General Manager to assist us with all the last minute details. Our guests were not only impressed with the beautiful set up/scenery of the banquet room, but the food choice was delicious, we selected the family style dinner, and the service was excellent. To top it all off, we had the most beautiful sunset overlooking the water and with Mount Tamalpais in the background. The head server, Travis, exceeded all our expectations and could not have been more gracious, accommodating, friendly, professional and just made the whole event that much more enjoyable. Brian and Josh were also wonderful and hospitable. Travis even boxed leftovers for us to take home ;-). I highly recommend Piatti for any special group event. read more

The new Brussel sprout salad starter is good enough for a meal, it was unique in that it had Gorgonzola cheese bits throughout and then the usual chopped boiled egg and bacon, it was so delicious my husband couldn't stop picking at my meal. I tried his Ceasar salad several times but the leaves had no flavor almost like the leaves weren't dry so the dressing had diluted to water-terrible! We had dinner here tonight for Valentines Day. We loved their romaine salad which had lots of salami, olives, and roasted peppers. It was the tastiest salad I ever had! Their pork ricotta meat balls are amazing! We also like their crispy chicken which comes with bacon pieces with rosemary, white beans, and brussel sprouts. We had one of the best meals in recent memory at Piatti recently. The food was extremely good, service was excellent and the price tag was actually fairly reasonable for an experience of this quality. We made a reservation for a small birthday dinner. We were seated immediately upon arrival, at a lovely table with views out over the small bay just behind the restaurant. Our server greeted us right away and continued to be attentive throughout the evening. Between us, we sampled the ravioli, squash ravioli, salmon and the half-chicken. The deliciousness of these dishes really cannot be overstated. It's not that it's particularly inventive, we are talking about chicken and salmon after all, but the flavors are just spectacular. The chef has really elevated these standard dishes to something very special. Dessert was tiramisu (with a birthday candle, to boot) and it was quite good. Wine recommendations were on point. There wasn't a thing we ate or drank that we didn't love, and service throughout was excellent. A huge thumbs-up from us. We will certainly return. read more

Piatti used to be my local! Lived in the hood for a couple years and my husband and I would steal away to this Mill Valley location. Small space but beautifully designed to utilize maximum views. Open feeling. Lots of new windows and an expanded bar. Wonderful small plates and the food doesn't disappoint. Good solid Italian fare. Nice party room that is used a lot! Outdoor seating looking over a small man made waterway. Great for drinks before a date, brunch lunch or dinner. Come in alone too--the locals are nice! It was a gorgeuos Sunday morning when my hubby and I came here for brunch. We were seated immediately and the hostess advised us that it was quite windy outside, so we ended up sitting next to the window, overlooking the water. What a breathtaking view!! He ordered a breakfast item and I ordered the Chitarri, which is composed of guitar string pasta, along with sundried tomatoes, garlic, basil and shrimp in a tomato and shrimp infused broth. Came here for my company's Christmas dinner. Great ambiance, great service, and the linguine with prawns was so good. Got a decent table on the sour of the moment on a busy Friday night. Fried calamari and pomegranate martini were good, Moscow mile was ok. Cesar salad was delicious, as was the beef tenderloin. The Truffle Risotto was very disappointing as it was undercooked and more crunchy than creamy. Service was inconsistent and spotty with our bottle of Pellegrino arriving well after our entrees were consumed. Server was annoying with his constant attempts to upswell.
