I shared with a friend who got a piadinna with Italian sausage, roasted red peppers & caramelized onion, this was packed with flavor too. This used to be one of my favorite restaurants on Newbury. Until I came in for lunch this weekend and had a horrible experience. I ordered gluten free pasta and I definitely was not given gluten free pasta. I made sure to check with the waiter when ordering - and yet I ended up extremely sick after eating here. For our main course we went tapas style and ordered 4/5 small plates, the Funghi flatbread (my fav), spinach gnocchi (very good), caramelized cauliflower (also good) and the lamb rack (which was also delish). To end the fabulous meal we ordered the Tartufo for dessert. Best call ever. The entire thing came to about $75 which included the tip. Lovely afternoon spent. Definitely going back. Second visit to this gem on Newbury Street. Great small outside-patio street level with the restaurant underground. Very cozy and intimate serving great Italian food. Sat at the bar and enjoyed a couple of appetizers, an entree and a bottle of wine. My one compliant about the Caprese salad - the tomatoes had no flavor and lacked a deep red color. By late June local toms should be available and would add so much more depth to this classic dish. The tuna tartare lacked tuna! It was very flavorful and fresh but should have been called vegetable tartare. Lots of avocado making it very creamy. The saltimbocca was delicious, great entree size. The veal was cooked perfectly, moist and tender with the prosciutto adding a touch of saltness. Wonderful! The bar waiter was attentive and friendly. Just ordered via 'Uber Eats', about 5-6 items; black truffle ravioli and spinach gnocchi to name a few. 70% of the order did not show, the driver blamed the restaurant. Newbury street can be notoriously expensive with mixed results, but Piattini's delivers in food, ambience, and service. The small plates aspect of their menu makes trying a bit of everything a dream, but they do have an entree list if you'd prefer not to share. The bread that's served is great -- rustic, although I wish it was served warm. The house-made pasta is not to be missed. Last time I was there I had the burrata ravioli which was incredibly rich, but I couldn't stop myself from finishing it. If you have a pickier eater among you, they even have a stellar mac and cheese.Then there are the Italian classics -- bolognese, gnocchi, etc. The wine list is expansive, available by the glass (as well as as flights) or the bottle. The food and wine were good, but we could hardly enjoy having been sat in the back room with a very large party of cackling women on extremely high volume, like beyond louder than any restaurant I've been to, the entire time without let up. It would have been nice to have been informed that they had to seat us there as we would have had the option to leave or wait for another table. I loved this place! Tucked under the street, it's advertised as a wine bar but they have an amazing menu filled with authentic cuisine. Our waitress was Anall, she was very pleasant and attentive. We got the margarita flatbread to start and it was awesome. Fresh from the oven. Their bread is very very good. I got the frutti de mare with linguini and it was AMAZING. That said, seating is kind of tight and the tables are a little small to appropriately accommodate a tapas style thing. Piattini will also not comfortably seat groups larger than 5 inconspicuously. The place is really small. Highlight was the bathroom. It's is probably the coziest, cleanest, sparkliest bathroom on Newbury St? I was a fan. You should check it out for yourself after you've ordered and tipped generously of course. As someone who doesn't believe in paying lots of money for boiled noodles and reheated sauce from a can, the food and menu offerings were really impressive. One qualm though: the mushroom pizza and eggplant dish contained no meat on the menu but tasted like they sauteed in bacon grease. A quiet, unassuming restaurant that has a patio area for the warmer months. I've only come here for lunch, so that's what I'll be reviewing. Their lunch menu consists of small apps, paninis, pastas, and flat breads. It's rather more extensive than most other places for lunch, which is great! Even better? Their prices. I had a wonderful pesto chicken pasta that was drop dead mouthwatering, at only 9$! 9. That's right. On Newbury. Italian. And all their other dishes are the same price range. Most lunch dishes looked to be $7-12 range. The other dish I've gotten multiple times is their lobster ravioli. The sauce is creamy, with a good amount of lobster inside the ravioli. Delish! When my sister came to visit, this was the first restaurant I knew I needed to take her to. What is Italian food without wine? Their wine menu is extensive, and the servers really know what they're talking about. I'm a huge red wine fan and was thrilled to see they offered a few different Chianti's. Yum! Many moons ago, I ate like a child; I understood like a child; I thought like a child. If I found myself wandering Newbury street looking for a dinner meal, I would have gone to either Bostone for a slice or Boloco for an atomic gut-bomb. But now I am a man, and I have put aside my childish ways (well, ok, not really). BUT! Last week I found myself on Newbury St with the girlfriend and I made a manly decision and chose to go to Piattini for dinner. I left very impressed. "Piattini" is Italian for "small plate," and so it only makes sense that Piattini offer diners the option of ordering a few smaller portions of dishes in order to share with those in your party. We ordered a plate of the caprese to share and THOROUGHLY enjoyed the fresh mozzarella and tomatoes drizzled with olive oil and basil. Honestly though, I'm not huge on the 'small plate'/tapas scene, as I tend to eat a lot...*ahem*... so it was nice to see that Piattini offered entrée-sized portions as well. We ordered the Penne con Zucca and Piattini knocked it out of the park. With autumn just around the corner, it seemed appropriate to try this pasta dish, as it features butternut squash and a delicious apple-cider sauce. Throw in some gorgonzola cheese and chicken pieces, and let's just say we didn't leave any leftovers to bring in for lunch the next day! a-ha-ha-haaaa. Also touting itself as a 'wine café,' we had to try some vino. Being a reasonable hot day, we went with a bottle of chilled South African Chenin Blanc, Fleur du Cap, which was crisp and delicious and had me beautifully buzzed by the time we left. In closing, if you have ever been to Italy (or seen the current season of Jersey Shore, as it's a pretty spot-on depiction of Florence) and wanted a taste of Italian cuisine without leaving Boston (and without going to North End aaaaand while also being on Newbury Street), I highly recommend Piattini. My husband and I are locals that live in Back Bay, and stopped by today for a quick brunch with our dog. We were seated but left before ordering because the service was so bad. It took over 10 minutes to even come give us water, at which time she informed us that they were only serving from a limited menu. It took another 15 minutes for her to come back to take our order, as she was clearly favoring an older couple who had arrived later than us. We then saw another customer eating an entree from the full menu and asked if we could have the same, but she said "I can't control the kitchen. That entree is more expensive so it would be better for me if you could order it. Don't give me a hard time." That's when we decided to leave. Also, this restaurant is NOT dog friendly - we specifically asked if we could sit at a table at the edge of the patio. 10 minutes after we were seated, the hostess came over after seating us and asked rudely, "is she a service dog?" When we said yes, she asked for paperwork which is ILLEGAL in Massachusetts.
