It's the summer now, so their outside seating is open and it's nice that there's a tall plastic divider from the street to the tables because it gives some sort of privacy. I came here for dinner before a show at the Wang and it was perfect. The restaurant is very clean and the open kitchen beautiful. Our server was very nice, attentive, and helped make good suggestions. We started with the sourdough, whipped feta spread, and arancini. All were amazing. I could eat that bread and feta everyday. My pasta was very tasty, fresh, and had a good sauce. My husband's swordfish was also very tasty and not dry at all. Really good spot before a show, we'll be back. read more

We came here during their brunch time menu on a Saturday morning. We made reservation but they were not needed since the restaurant had plenty of seating available. Our waiter was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The chicken parmezzana was not as good as I was expecting. I would not get this again. The fried it came with were good. A friend got the stuffed French toast, it was very good and would recommend getting this! We also had some drink, I did not capture a picture of those but they were good. Let me start with: service was 10 stars/5. Just perfect, more on that later. I was compelled to write this after reheating the bread we took from there for breakfast the morning after -- it is THAT good. We got three items: bread, arancini, and a pasta. Their bread game is one of the best in Boston. We started with the focaccia starter with the feta dip. I thought it looked a little dry and less bubbly, but the taste and texture turned out to be 10/10. My dinner companion hates onions, so our server immediately offered sourdough bread to be included. Grilled sourdough bread was superb. My companion ate the focaccia though it was that good and not too oniony. I wish both dips were offered in smaller portions though -- it was a hard choice to make especially upfront in our dinner (I feel like choices like this are better suited well into meal, like entrees). Arancini are an absolute skip -- tiny portions, the ratio of rice to inside cheese and "toppings" is quite off -- it was a small dense mess. Pastas here are good. We got the Lumache without meat as we had to go vegetarian for my companion. It was quite lovely for being a meatless al amatriciana (again, brilliant suggestion of our server). Drinks were amazing -- server knew exactly what I wanted for my martini, including asking me if I wanted "bone dry." Not many know what to ask to get it right. Amaro was priced at under 10 bucks - well done and good portion. The server knew exactly what he was doing but he later confessed he has been there for 5+ years. It clearly showed -- perfect but non-hovering attention on us. Suggestions were spot on and never pushy. I will come back soon and hopefully (will demand :)) to get the same server (I missed his name! And it is not on the receipt!!!). read more

F phenomenal. Craft and speed of Sportello, hospitality of Menton & No. 9, buzzing energy of the old ES. Our party of 5 had several starters, pastas, entrees, and two rounds of drinks -- we were in/out in about an hour. Incredible food and service. Really dug the Rübezahl cocktail, which had a shrubby quality almost reminiscent of tepache, and reading the wine list. I could bathe in the sauce that the braised rabbit came in, and would equally welcome a slathering in the Caulilini's bagna cauda. Marinated octopus, meatballs, tagliolini, and cacio e pepe were phenomenal. I was going to order bread: focaccia or sourdough? And our server suggested we choose based on texture rather than flavor. The squid ink salad was also just okay. Also FYI it'll stain your teeth dramatically, but nothing some water won't fix. On the dessert menu, they mentioned there's a 4% surcharge for the kitchen staff. I think it's pretty unfair to not make this charge more clear upfront, and I don't think I saw any notice given on the main menu. Food was incredible. Post-Boston marathon meal. Started whipped feta on focaccia (5star) and the eggplant/cheese spread thing (4 stars). Maybe it tastes exactly as you want it to but I preferred the whipped feta. Service was good. They didn't really have an opportunity to prove exceptional. We made some Braindead requests and were treated respectfully, so that was nice. We got the creeping vine, a refreshing tequila drink and a spicy refreshing red drink. The ambiance was nicer and a little more laid back due to the nature of the event today. Ordered the baby kale salad which kicked butt. I've been carboloading all week even though I was only a spectator at the race... the salad was necessary. Main dish was the Casio e Pepe which we split. Rich and delicious. A lively spot for date night or girls night out. The menu has a nice mix of pasta and seafood options. Now the food started off okay but finished off strong. The focaccia bread felt a little stale and dry while the whipped feta was a bit heavy and thick rather than light. The yellowtail crudo was okay with the grapefruit. The main dishes shined though. The bucatini pasta was well cooked and had a nice spicy, acidic sauce that was not too overwhelming. The chicken under a brick featured juicy chicken with crispy skin and a delicious shaved Brussel salad on top to give it a nice crunchy texture. Parking in the area is a pain. If you aren't lucky enough to snag a meter, they do offer a reduced parking rate with one of the lots but I forget which one. read more

For a party of five, we ordered: two portions of the garlic sourdough and the whipped feta, butternut squash arancini (luckily the kitchen accommodated and made 5 balls vs. 4 that is typically served), 3 pasta dishes (Cacio e Pepe, Bucatini, Gnocchi) and the Chicken Under a Brick. The restaurant is very lively with lots of seating. They also have a nice patio that you can sit at for people watching. As for the food, the house focaccia was very fluffy and great for all of the dips. The burrata was nothing special, but a good complement for the bread and a solid starter. I personally wasn't a huge fan of the whipped feta spread - I found it too tangy and overpowering. The fried artichokes had a good balance. It was crispy, crunchy, and great with the garlic mayo. The cacio e pepe was very creamy with little specks of sharp black pepper. The pasta was cooked to an al dente and still had a bite to it. For drinks, I got the Torino Rose and recommend it if you love a fruity drink. Overall, a nice meal and great for sharing. read more

PERFECTION!!!!! Being from NY and a foodie I wasn't sure where to fit but this place did not disappoint. In fact we can't wait to come back, maybe even this trip. The people were really nice and they came and checked on us often. When they ran out of oysters they gave us a complimentary dish. However, all the dishes were incredibly small and definitely not filling enough for us for the price we paid...especially the drinks. Then a few hours later we all got hit with the worst food poisoning ever. I almost had to go to the hospital it was so bad. I spent the entire night hugging the toilet and sleeping in the bathroom. Such a cute Italian spot in the Ink Block area with lots of shaded outdoor seating for brunch. They have a very large cocktail menu, but oddly no coffee menu though you can order your favorite standard barista drink here. I wasn't a fan of my main dish, but my friends raved about their orders so I'll add a little star inflation for the low key enjoyable ambiance. Cinnamon Bun: So much better than Cinnabon! Doesn't have that funky overly yeasty mass produced taste. Tastes like something a grandma in the country would make you for breakfast. Sufficiently large enough to share with a friend before diving into brunch. Confit Duck Hash: Photos of this don't do good job of showing the high greens ratio. I'm not anti-green, since I do believe a strategic pairing of a slightly bitter green vegetable does wonders to offset richness from something rich like pork or duck confit. However, seemed like overkill compared to the scant amount of duck. Everything tasted nice individually, but all that green roughage wasn't pleasant. Came here for my birthday. Inside was nice and the waitress was lovely. I have a massive issue with both their drinks and food. Their $15 spritz barely makes it to half of a wine glass. Spritz are large format drinks. You're suppose to be able to sip on it. Not drink it in one gulp. Kind of embarrassing that they have fell into the Boston pricing scheme with multiple other restaurants. Mind you in Europe you can find a way better and much larger spritz for about 4 euros. My biggest complaint was the shrimp scampi. What the actual f were they serving me. First off. We cannot call it a scampi. No tomato's, no lemon, parsley, garlic, chili or anything. I believe they used some sort of prawn sauce they tried to make but it was abysmal. So dry that my pasta was sticking together. Shrimp were cooking into fking oblivion. So tough. (They cut their shrimp in half and butterfly it for presentation but they cooked it for about 5 minutes too long). Extremely bland sauce, extremely dry shrimp. For $35. This has been a standard for the Boston fam during Covid and still is a great place to eat ---if you're hankering for excellently made food, a bar (more a restaurant), with nicely spaced indoor and outdoor tables. The vibe at BM is bistro-like (the food is Italian/Medi/New England). The wait staff super helpful and kind. The kind part is something I expect in Cali not in Boston. :). We did get carried away with cocktails and amari but ya only live once dotdotdot. The food? Excellent. Everything we ordered was made well even the tinned Island Creek scallops (which garnered a silent yucch to my palate until I tried them) was very good. I love traveling to cities with a good subway system like the T in Boston. So if I were to complain about BM, Bar Mezzana is not really accessible from the T, like a few blocks from , but accessible via the bus (takes longer). Of course Uber gets you everywhere but not necessarily faster and cheaper option than the T. All in all the plates we had, the vibe and the wait staff make BM a solid family, afterwork, or even a romantic desti for most who like non-traditional Boston fare. End of Yelp. read more

First off, the service was incredible. I wasn't feeling 100% and our server brought me a little kettle of mint tea, which was a useful remedy to ensure I could enjoy the entire meal. Ambiance was lovely, we dined early and it got busier as the night went on, but still felt cozy at our table for two. Standouts for me were the yellowtail crudo with grapefruit and basil or mint(?). The fish was almost creamy it was so tender and smooth, and the grapefruit was a vibrant pairing that worked beautifully. And I love a touch of fresh herb! I loved the eggplant app with complex notes of sweet onions, smoky eggplant, tangy feta, and a hint of chili spice. A bold starter that's not to be missed! We tried the sweetbreads ala saltimbocca which were beautifully prepared, but personally not a concept I enjoy. That said, my guy loves them and happily ate each portion - loving the rich cause and overall preparation. The sausage orrichette was my entree all star - fennel, the rich pop of spice to balance the richness of the sausage. Thick pasta pieces that could also serve as little bowls for the bits of meat and radicchio. Fabulously sharable and satisfying start to finish.
