Managed to score a last-minute reservation for dinner at Little Sage and parking aside, the whole experience was a breeze. We were immediately seated and throughout the night, service was excellent. The restaurant space is a little tight so you may overhear your neighbor's conversation but there is a lovely open kitchen in the back where you can watch the chefs work together in symphony. We started with the Spanish octopus ($22) which we loved so much, we ordered a second of, as well as the ricotta stuffed squash blossoms ($19). The octopus was incredibly tender and plump and had a Galician flavor with the potatoes and grilled peppers. The squash blossoms were delicately fried with a light and crispy tempura batter and the tomato marmalade on the bottom provided a nice sweet-tartness to the dish overall. For our entrées, we tried the duck breast ($29), roasted gem clams ($27), pappardelle ($29), and the ravioli doppio ($28), the last of which was my favorite dish of the evening. The duck was well seared and the umami of the mushrooms contrasted with the sweet and tart agrodolce sauce, keeping the overall dish from being too heavy. The gem clams were a tad too savory for my preference, especially with the shavings of bonito flakes. We were given the choice of pairing the clams with bread or pasta and I would definitely recommend going with the latter to help dilute the brininess of the dish. The pappardelle had a lovely al dente chew and the braised lamb shoulder and fava beans lended the dish a very spring-forward vibe, which complimented the ravioli doppio with a duo filling of peas and ricotta, finished in a basil butter sauce. Overall, I really enjoyed my dining experience at Little Sage and I love how in tune the menu is with seasonal produce available. I would love to return to try their other offerings, including the lobster gnocchi which I noticed a lot of tables ordered. The staff was also very accommodating for my tree nut allergy-- the pesto is nut-free and all dishes that do have nuts are used as garnishes and can be removed if desired. read more

It was my first evening at Boston and of course I had to hit up Little Italy to get some dinner. We the octopus which was good. I ordered a hot and dirty martini and it was meh. For my main course I ordered the little neck claims with pasta. The clams were fine, but lacked flavor. The pasta was cooked perfectly with having the right texture but the flavors weren't cohesive. "Best Neighborhood Restaurant, North End" in Best of Boston 2025. Not easy for Italian restaurant to win this. Salmon Crudo: The special of the day. Salmon topped with caviar and chives, citron crema, and dill oil. I expected a blend of citron and dill, citrus and herbal aromas, and a delightful contrast between the rich plump salmon and the slightly crunchy caviar, but the overwhelming saltiness ruined everything. To me, it was like the cook spilled the salt shaker, but the restaurant seemed to claim this was normal saltiness? Unbelievable. Casarecce: 5/5 stars! Gorgonzola Dolce cheese gave the sauce a creamy, smooth texture, while its rich creaminess was balanced by the slightly bitterness of the broccoli rabe and the mild sweetness of roasted squash. The squash was diced and only lightly roasted, its crispness contrasting with the softness and tenderness of the broccoli rabe. The Casarecce was firm and chewy, perfect for pairing with the rich sauce. Everything was exquisite and delicate, just right. The delightful surprise was how the cook cleverly preserved and utilized the bitterness of the raw vegetables. The ambiance was average, and the seating was rather cramped. So many places to choose from in the North End and this place did not disappoint. I met a friend and was a few mins early, even tho the high top we would be seated at was available, the host did not seat me. He said I was welcome to wait in the bar area (where the high top was) but there was literally zero space. This was annoying to me but happily waited outside getting fresh air. Our server was friendly and helped us make choices based on food preferences (we were going vegetarian that night). The one thing to note is you have to order all your food at once. We ordered the herbed flatbread to start as well as the mushroom tempura. Both things were tasty. The sauce for the flatbread was good. We ordered the squash ravioli and truffle pasta. Both things were delicious- very rich and full of flavor. The truffle pasta was more on the al dente side but I was OK with that. We ordered the olive oil cake for dessert and it was pretty good. This place was inches away from five stars, held back only by an OK espresso martini. Little Sage is the best food in the north end in my opinion, I said it. I left continuously saying how good it was - from the get go with the most soft, perfectly buttered ciabatta that eventually became a vessel for burrata, I would've taken a nap on it. The burrata came with a green salad and butternut squash roasted to perfection. My god, that ciabatta. Four of us split three meals - pork chop which I believe was the special, bucatini (duh), and ricotta gnocchi with lobster (my god). I mean all three were spiritual and PERFECT. I don't even like pork chops but this guy was the head honcho and the crust on the chop was perfectly crisped. Our server slayed and recommended most of our items. Second drink made up for the Tini which just lacked a little fun in it (mainly vodka), but the aperol spritz was perfect. This was honestly the best Italian meal I've had in my lifetime! Chef Tony Susi in my opinion is cooking up some of the best food in the north end, and that's saying a lot. Beautiful seasonal menu which includes tuna, Crudo, fried squash blossoms with mint, ricotta and pinenuts. House made pasta dishes which included a sweet corn tortelli With beautiful fresh, summer herbs and tomatoes probably the best bite of the evening. Woodfired entrées and more. Not a large menu, but being a small space I get it. This was my second time at Little Sage. The first visit completely won me over: the food, the vibe, everything was amazing. Naturally, I came back with high expectations. While the meal was still solid overall, a few small misses kept it from matching that initial impression. The tomato burrata salad was fresh but under-seasoned. The pesto pasta had great flavor but leaned a bit too salty, and the pasta itself was a little too al dente for my taste. On the flip side, the lobster pasta was rich and delicious, no notes there. Unfortunately, I wasn't really impressed with Little Sage. The food nor the service was great that and I had heard such great things about it. The nerves flatbread is VERY flat and not very herbed, it's tasted like overcooked pizza crust more than anything. In addition the tuna carpaccio was also nothing special. The drink list is also nothings spectacular, tasty but very standard drinks nothing special or even original. I was surprised to see a paper plane and Paloma on the menu at an Italian restaurant. For entrees we had the butternut squash pasta and baked fazoletti. The fazoletti had much more depth and was more tasty than the butternut squash which was unremarkable. I'd love to try this place again once they get a new seasonal menu. read more

The lobster pasta was decent yet the other green pasta was not a hit. Deserts we so so. The restaurant was hot and extremely noisy. Waiters just seemed like they were going through the motions. This spot was recommended to us by local friends, and we were nor disappointed! We were running late due to an Uber mess-up and we called ahead to let them know. They graciously held our table (the place was packed!) but we had to wait a few minutes at the bar. We decided to try the mocktail menu. Their cucumber lemonade was the best, most refreshing mocktail I've tasted anywhere, and we ordered more with dinner. It's fairly small, and the place was buzzing with happy diners. We had spring pea agnolotti (with basil, butter & shaved parmigiana), which was fresh and delicious, while the lumache (with roasted mushrooms, snap peas and brown butter pecorino) was simply outstanding. The pasta melted in your mouth and the melding of flavors was a constant delight as we ate. We ended the meal with their ricotta and chocolate zeppoles ( which are not your standard carnival fare!) served with an amazing passion fruit curd. Wow! It is our new favorite North End res Their herbed flatbread was so good on its own but when paired with the burrata, it was perfection! The burrata is plated with roasted delicata squash, a brown butter vinaigrette, pepitas, and arugula. We enjoyed the bucatini ala gricia with leoncini pancetta, black pepper, and pecorino pepato. A huge portion so we brought half home! The baked fazoletti pasta with short rib, spinach, fontina, and cherry tomatoes was nothing like we've eaten before, and it was delicious! I really appreciated how our waiter, Michael, double checked my food allergies that are listed in my Open Table account before we ordered. I devoured the paccheri with roasted Joyberry Farm mushrooms, brussel sprouts, and black truffle butter. So, so goooood! And then to polish off such a yummy experience, we enjoyed a special serving of the olive oil cake which was served beautifully with mascarpone and amarena cherries. We were full by this time and yet somehow the cake disappeared! It's a great balance of sweet and savory, and a perfect size for sharing. So the next time you're in Boston's North End and you're looking for a great new place to try, check out Little Sage! I think you'll love it too! If I could give the meal I had here 100 stars, I would. The space is small but cozy and intimate. My mom and I came here during girls weekend and our expectations were blown away. We started with the warm olives and ciabatta. The ciabatta was the perfect balance of crunchy outside and soft inside. The only con of the olive medley was this huge reddish olive that was super smokey and briny, it did not complement the others. We next shared the pasta course, which was the ravioli with smoked ricotta. The smokiness added a lovely depth to the dish rather than overwhelming it. The absolute highlight of the meal was the dish that was very unassuming on the menu. The baked chicken with fingerlings, brown butter, and sage. I'm still thinking about this a week later. The chicken was so flavorful and juicy, perfectly seasoned. The potatoes absorbed the flavor of the brown butter. The chicken skin was CRISP!! This is a DO NOT MISS menu item. I will drive in the future from Rhode Island just to eat this. The service was on the slower side, but it was a busy Saturday night and only their third weekend open, so I'm giving lots of grace! I can count on one hand how many reviews I've left for restaurants, but I've never felt so unwelcome at a restaurant in my life. My two friends and I arrived 15 minutes before the kitchen closed(restaurant closes an hour after) as we had delays in our travel arrangements, and while the restaurant agreed to serve us, the attitude from both the kitchen and floor staff made it painfully obvious they didn't want us there. We could clearly hear staff mocking us and making comments about us from the kitchen and dining area, with absolutely no effort to hide it. If serving customers near closing time is such an unbearable inconvenience, then stop seating people at that hour. Don't accept customers only to treat them with open hostility and disrespect. We were polite, ordered quickly, and did nothing to deserve being ridiculed simply for arriving during posted operating hours. A restaurant's food can only carry it so far. The experience was uncomfortable, embarrassing, and incredibly disappointing. I won't be returning, and I certainly wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone expecting basic courtesy or professionalism. read more

The bar was roomy and the tables were spaces a good distance apart compared to the dining room. This place is CLEAN! Had the bread, octopus, orange and fennel salad, ravioli, monkfish, chicken, Swiss chard and olive oil cake. Everything was delicious-nothing too heavy. Will definitely be in my Boston rotation.
