From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by the sweetest cashier. She was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and took the time to answer all of our questions about the menu. The food was phenomenal and tasted like a true homemade Peruvian meal. We ordered the Tallarín Verde con Carne and the Ceviche Mixto, and both dishes were absolutely outstanding. The flavors were fresh, authentic, and packed with flavor. Yes, the food is a little on the pricey side, but the quality more than justifies it. It's becoming harder and harder to find restaurants that truly prioritize fresh ingredients and authentic cooking, and El Chato definitely delivers. We live about an hour away, but we'll absolutely be making another trip back the next time we're in the area. We ordered the lomo saltado and the ceviche mixto, and both dishes were pretty good. However, the portion sizes could definitely be a little better. The lomo saltado in particular could have used more meat, especially considering the price they are charging for it. My friend and I came here for dinner after work. We ordered at the counter, and the food was brought to our table when it was ready. You can choose your own table. The restaurant is on the smaller side, but there was a steady flow of customers eating in and taking out. I tried the ceviche de pescado, the toasted corn, and the yuca frita. I had the maracuya drink as well. I enjoyed everything I ordered. The woman who helped us even gave me an extra serving of a sauce I liked. My friend enjoyed her salchipapas. Fairly new restaurant in downtown Pomona. Easy parking. Stopped in for lunch with several coworkers and had a wonderful experience. Excellent service from the woman at the front counter. We thought that it's a little pricy, but the quality of the meats and the dishes were excellent, so you get what you pay for! A couple of us had the Lomo Saltado ($20.99), which is made from filet mignon and comes with steamed white rice. One of us also tried the daily special, a Aji de Gallina (chicken) with potato and white rice, along with a small bowl of the daily soup, all for $14.99. I sampled both and they were delicious. I went here after going to the bank that's in the same plaza, I saw that they opened up recently. They have a few tables inside and the staff was nice. I usually get their chicha morada and lomo saltado ($20.99). The portion was a good size, the sauce was not too salty and the beef was tender and soft. The french fries were crispy, tossed along with slices of tomato and red onions. My brothers liked it as well and asked me to pick up some food from here. read more

Haven't had very good luck with any Peruvian food restaurants outside of our normal go-to in the Southbay. Saw this place had just opened up and finally decided to give it a shot. Decided to order the Lomo Saltado to-go with an extra Aji sauce. I thought it was a little pricey until the cashier mentioned that they use filet mignon making me think I might have finally hit the jackpot...and boy did I ever! The ambiance is small with enough tables to comfortably seat a small party of 4 but more if you put some tables together. The food is freshly made but the wait is nothing crazy. Got home and we dug into it and we're pleasantly surprised. Absolutely delicious and well prepared. Not overly seasoned and cooked to perfection. The Aji was spicy and had good consistency and flavor which is hard to find. Unfortunately, I honestly didnt think it would be anywhere as good as it was and I didnt think to take a picture until we had already finished it all off. We cant wait to try the other dishes soon. Great addition that far surpasses all other Peruvian restaurants within a 25-30 mile radius...and its in our backyard!! Yay!!! read more

The service here was unbelievably great! they were so welcoming the second i walked in the door. Went over all there amazing dishes they have and the drinks are so good! Homemade drinks i cant pronounce the drink names but there was a purple one and yellow one, i got the yellow one and it was so yummy! The service alone was so great I'll def be back! The food is all freshly made I'm a very picky eater, and the dish i got was something i normally wouldn't get but it was so yummy. It wasn't heavy on my stomach either it was just perfect didn't feel all stuffed. It was the perfect amount! You have to go check this place out!!! read more

I'm beyond happy to see a Peruvian spot opening up locally. The service does not disappoint and everything was cooked fresh to order. I want to point out that the quality control is superb, every bite of the Lomo saltado was delicious and edible. Often times there will be pieces that should have been removed before grilling and serving that are not but this was not the case here at El Chato. Every bite melted in my mouth and there was enough of the juice to season the rice as well. I felt the serving size on the Lomo was a tad bit small but it made up for that with the quality and flavor which was spot on. Ceviche mixto was mouth watering delicious and there was plenty of leche de tigre for the serving. Yuca and the sauce "chato sauce" that accompanied the appetizer were so good I ordered a second serving. Platano were piping hot and cooked to perfection. I will def visit again but probably for lunch. We spent $90 on the items I listed and 2 sparkling waters. read more

Loved this place from start to finish! Service is exceptionally friendly and informative. Welcomed with a smile and warm greeting. Affordable, delicious selection with great size portions. We ordered 2 Maracuya drinks ... so tasty. We also got fries ... perfectly crispy, aji de gallina, and tallarin verde. The sauces were in point! I came to this place not sure of what I was going to get. I've been to Peru a couple times and their food is simply outstanding. When you come in to this resta you will find a very simple but really clean restaurant. You can see the kitchen and you will see that it's also very clean. On the food. We ordered the Mix Chaufa; think Chinese fried rice done Peruvian way. Really, really good. I ordered the ceviche mix. Excellent and really fresh. The serving looks small, but you will not be dissatisfied. There is a lot of seafood there and the taste is spot on good. I have to say that this place was very good and I will not hesitate to recommend it. Service is good. So if you have never tried Peruvian, this is a good place to start. This place was amazing! We went after going to the LA Pet Fair. Service was excellent! I got the Tallarin Verde Con Bisteck. The Spaghetti tasted as if it was very high Italian restaurant quality. The sauce was very good, and the steak was VERY tasty. The marinade was delicious and it was very tender. It was also a lot of food! I also got the passion fruit drink. A bit pricy for the drink to be honest but I was offered a free sample which was absolutely delicious and it was so hot that day that I ended up getting it. read more

I placed an order for a jalea through uber eats, the plate is supposed to include large portions of fish and clams, muscles, onions, tomatoes etc. instead there were small pieces of fish empty clam and muscles shells no meat no onions or veggies. Which when speaking to them she admitted to cutting small pieces of fish which indicates to me they're possibly using left overs from thier frig or other plates ?? she also said she sent everything that the plate is supposed to included blaming the Uber driver, overall it was a very poor eating experience they would not take responsibility for the small jalea which is normally three x's the size of what I received, it was very disappointing when looking at it, due to it missing so much of what it's supposed to contain, I can in No Way give them ANY recommendation except to say don't eat there. read more

The food is amazing! I had the lomo saltado and the aguadito soup. It took me back to my childhood and made me so happy. Growing up Peruvian, I'm a tough critic of new Peruvian restaurants because it needs to be authentic. The flavors of the lomo saltado were so good that the rice soaked up the sauce and that was just as good as the meat. The aguadito soup was flavorful with just the right amount of everything in it. The alfajores were delicious without being overly processed and crumbly. They melted in your mouth so delicately. I also had a chicha morada, and they do not make it from powder, it's made fresh. It's been so long since I've had a fresh chicha morada. So happy that this place exists. I cannot wait for it to come back! read more

I will start out by saying that my father's side of the family is peruvian so I am always looking for good spots that reminds me of childhood. The food i would give a 4.2. My hubs ordered the green spaghetti with steak. The steak was FIRE, but spaghetti was lacking something that I couldn't put my finger on... maybe it needed more queso fresco. We ordered yucca frita. It was good... but could have used salt. I added salt on my own, however it's different when it comes right out fresh and salted. We also ordered papa la huancaina. One of the best I have ever had. I added salt though... . I ordered a side of grilled chicken to eat with the papa last huancaina... FIRE. There green sauce was good, but not the best. They did have this el chato sauce that they referred to as a peruvian ranch.... VERY good. I could put that on many things and be happy for sure.. lol. The service was 5 stars . They were genuinely kind and accommodating. I had asked for papa la huancaina... they had it as a special during the week , but said they would make it for me. Not many places are willing to go out of their way to service these days... so this was definitely a plus. Atmosphere wasn't anything special. Plain walls. No decor. But it was very clean. It looks new do maybe they havent gotten to it yet. Overall, I would give a 4.5 if that was possible. read more
