Yummy!! We got takeout Margherita pizza and Caesar salad! The pizza was hot and delicious and the salad was crisp! The dressing for the Caesar Salad was really tasty too. We drove up and had car service. The waiter took our card, and came back with the food! My only complaint was that the lettuce was pretty wet, but atleast we know it was clean!! Awful experience dining in! Over 1 hr. Waiting for our soup course and then an additional 45 minutes for our food. That is just unacceptable for an established restaurant! We had a bad experience about 10 years ago with raw chicken but thought we'd give it another chance since we are forced to eat out for 8 weeks during our kitchen remodel. Worst mistake ever! Wait staff incompetent - management no help and food not even mediocre! I actually grocery shopped next door waiting for our food! So we just returned from Piccolo Trattoria for dinner. Had a big lunch so all I got was the scallop appetizer and a side of angel hair/marinara sauce. My wife got her usual Spring Mix Salad with Chicken. I have to tell you that in 56 years, living in South Philly for 8 years, traveling all over Italy - this was THE BEST scallops of all time (by far) and the pasta/sauce unbelievable. All of their recipes are this good. Piccolo Trattoria is simply the best. My wife and I have been all over Philly, New York, etc. and I'm thinking that this is our #1 favorite restaurant. While we found the food to be about a 7 out of 10, which is relatively good, both times we dined at this restaurant we could hear yelling from the kitchen. The second time we came, hoping things would be different, the yelling happened yet again. My grandfather owned multiple restaurants throughout his lifetime, which my mother and I both worked at for years. NEVER in a million years would he treat his employees that way. Our waiter was pleasant and attentive although he did disappear for a bit after the salad. It was a Monday evening and the place was not very crowded. Ambience is basic for an Italian restaurant. On our way out we stopped by the pizza ovens to have a look at what was on offer. We will be back to try a few more dishes and a thin crust pizza. I really like Piccolo -have been there three times recently (Hey, I said I liked it!) and each time it has been delicious and a great atmosphere. When you arrive you think "greaaaat, restaurant in a strip mall!" but as you get seated and take in the décor you realize it's much more than that. The food is DELICIOUS, the service is great and the owner will occasionally walk around and chat with customers, which I love as a patron. I highly recommend the grilled octopus, the fried calamari and the artichokes appetizers -absolutely hot, fresh and delicious! I have tried the Caesar, the Piccolo salad and the caprese and they are all super fresh and yummy. My husband loves the gnooci and the seafood pasta and the desserts are out of this world. The menu posted the scallop dish for $33 but we were charged $45 on the bill with No mention of the price increase. Their website states that the prices have increased and you should ask your server about any price difference but who looks online when you are going to the restaurant. It should be stated on the menus that the prices are not accurate. That is a huge difference in price and the customer should be notified when ordering. I never would have ordered a dish with 6 scallops and a pile of spinach for $45. I would never trust this restaurant again. Bad form and a very dishonest way to do business. read more

I had asked for a high chair when I called but they didn't note it and seemed annoyed by it. We waited 15 minutes and we didn't even know who our waiter was. Ordered at 4pm, got there, through the door at 5:55pm for a 6pm "pick up". At 6:20, STILL no order! Absolutely NO apology from staff for the extreme chaos & ridiculous delay, just overall terrible service! We were taking dinner to some friends, so this was an additional embarrassment, now being 30 min. late for dinner. If it was for just my wife and I, I would have walked.
