I came with my wife and was welcomed by the manager as soon as we walked in. This location is well lit and clean. We asked for recommendations and we were not disappointed. I like the portion sizes, the flavor, the spice level on my dish hit the spot. My wife got the Salmon which she said was both light and filling. This is, according to my girlfriend (and upon trying the food I agree completely) the worst asian food we have ever had. We ordered a chicken bowl and a drink, which somehow cost an exorbitant $20. The carrots were brown and hard and cooked not at all, in addition to the fact that the snap peas were going bad and tasted foul. I know this place gets a bad rap, but I still think it does a few things very well. Most notably, I think they have some great tofu options. Most places seem like they add this option as an afterthought, whereas this is a big part of the standard Pick Up Stix menu. I usually get their Kung Pao tofu or the Thai coconut curry, tofu, and both are consistently good. Since I don't eat much chicken and never red meat, I can't comment on those dishes. Maybe that's why my review isn't so negative - tofu is usually less risky than meat if there are quality issues. I don't order from here very often, but I still consider it when I'm craving vegetarian Americanized Chinese food. read more

For a Pick Up Stix, this location is beautiful! I was really impressed when hubby and I went in for a quick bite. They've changed the decor - it's really colorful now and they've got these circular booths (I love booths) that are really comfy too. They're always very accommodating when it comes to coupons (which I love too!) and specials. I like that there is nice outdoor seating and a semi-private parking lot next to the eatery too. This review is not a reflection on the Carlsbad location store, but rather the menu at Pick Up Stix as a chain. (The Carlsbad store is always clean and the staff is helpful and friendly- this is not a criticism of them in any way.) This is one of the few places that we can get take-out Chinese food near our home. Unfortunately, almost everything on the Pick Up Stix menu is waaaaaayyyyy too sweet. Most of the sauces are very sugary. There are a couple of dishes on the menu that aren't, and they do have some good coupons / promotions that we sometimes take advantage of, but in general I avoid eating here. read more

Went here with a coupon, the manager at this location seemed irritated I was using a coupon. That alone wouldn't have bothered me, however my genuine question when I asked about different menu items seemed like such an inconvenience that it left a bad taste about this location. Food was good, if you know exactly what you want you're good to go, but since I know my BF will still have more questions about the menu.. we'll be driving to the further location where they're friendlier. I have ordered from here twice and never will again. I do not like seafood, the taste of or the smell of it. Both times I ordered here including today I ordered chicken dishes and both times I had to throw them out because they tasted like fish.
