Just had the Bourbon chicken, HORRIBLE!! Chicken I'm full of gristle and overcooked. What a disappointment as we eat here a lot and it's usually decent. This is the first time I've had it so maybe it's supposed to taste like leathery burnt tree bark. Since it was closing maybe this was the leftover chicken parts they needed to get rid of. Pick Up Stix makes Panda Express look good. I finally tried PUS for the first time and I was under impressed. I am not a fan of a restaurant physically weighing the food in front of you. I understand the restaurant needs to be profitable (and I want them to be). But I don't think an ounce or two over or under will make the difference. The flavor of the food was good enough but not good enough to make me go out of my way. However, the fortune cookie was stale. I paid $20 for two meals (not including a beverage) and it was just enough. For the money, I would rather go to Panda Wok in Vista and get three times as much food for a fraction the price. Admittedly PW does not have the variety PUS does, it has been my go to for quite some time now. Sorry PUS, I just don't see myself returning any time soon. read more

Convenient location in a major shopping center, between the beach and Highway 5. We have been regulars for many years because of their fresh, flavorful meals & excellent customer service. For vegetarian dishes, I always order tofu in place of meat. The tofu is cut into wedges, breaded and crispy. However, if you don't want fish or shellfish sauce, or if you are allergic to seafood, check the sauces very carefully. Many of their sauces contain fish or shellfish. They have a checklist at the counter to help you with that. I give today's service a five star plus rating due to the great customer service. After I ordered tofu coconut curry, I asked and found out that it contains fish sauce. They were kind enough to remake the entire dish for me, with general Tso sauce instead. read more

Last night we spent $30 for food that was about as below par as one could imagine. The won ton soup portion was big enough for a small child and was basically no more than a few tasteless won tons and broth. The beef broccoli was also tasteless, the broccoli limp, the beef so tough you had to use a steak knife to cut it. The Kung Pau chicken was bland, the chicken coming in large rather tough chunks. Do yourself a favor and step up to Pf Changs and forget this sorry excuse for an Asian restaurant. read more

So, before I give a low score (below 3 stars) I usually give the place another try first. I'm glad we gave this location a second try as the first visit was not a good experience and food was not good. On this visit the food was excellent, the service however could use some improvement. The wait was a little long and even after they called our name, we waited at the counter for 5 minutes while the lady prepared several other orders prior to turning around and seeing us waiting. Our order was to go and we were not offered plates or anything and before I could ask, she was busy again preparing other orders. Oh well. Now, the food was really good. We ordered, chicken chow mein, house chicken, tofu with veggies and spring rolls. Everything was fresh and had great flavor. Total bummer. Was staying at hotel near by. Love this place and only go when in So.Cal. Used Post Mates to order $65 worth for family dinner. Bummed when food arrived and was charged for the Large Special Chow main and it was missing. This is all my kids eat. Including no plasticware to eat our food. Called and they said they would call back post-mates girl to redeliver. Felt it was unfair for her to return again. They offered if I came to location they would give me a Chow-main and Free meal. Passed was already in hotel for night with kiddos. Besides this hiccup the food was really good. Favorites: special rice, lettuce wraps and cream cheese wontons. Not the best fast food Chinese restaurant around and also not the worst. Just so-so. On the down side: Corporate Americanized version of Chinese fare. Cloying sauces. If you order two different items of even vastly differing flavors they will simply pile one on top of the other in your container. Destroys both items. On the plus side: plenty of convenient and free parking. Never any sort if wait or even any line to speak of. Best of all--they are right next door to a better restaurant (St. Tropez) so you don't have to look far when you realize the food here disgusts you. With a late craving for Chinese food, I decided on Pick Up Stix because of the location, and their dishes are of good quality and free of MSG. I ordered online at about 8:25pm Saturday, to pick up my food at 8:45pm. The online ordering is very simple (but thorough) and it required payment which obviously makes the pick up easy. I got an order of crispy honey chicken with white rice, which came to about $9. I showed up at about 8:40am. It might not be a big deal to some people, but I was bothered by the delayed greeting I received. When a car visibly parks in front of your door, and someone gets out, you have time to prepare to greet the customer almost instantly as he walks in. Besides a table with two guests finishing their dinner, the place wasn't busy. I stood at the counter (in this case, even one second is too long) until the girl decided to stop her chat, walk to the registers, and say hello. I told her I had an online order, and she brought it right over. She was very sweet as she directed me to the soy sauce, hot mustard, and chopsticks. I believe 4- or 5-star customer service involves a faster hello when someone gets to the counter; unless you are busy, which they weren't. My main reason for writing this review is to mention the sub-par rice I received. When I got home, I dished up a serving of rice and chicken, only to be greatly disappointed by the fact that I was served the "end-of-the-night" rice. I wish there was a way they could've made it fresh (or at least fresher), but it was dry, hard, and clumpy. I got the hint: don't order food 35 minutes before closing. I am forced to leave a 3-star rating due to a slightly problematic greeting after I walked through the door, and a very problematic box of white rice. I would understand (and deserve) that rice if I ordered closer to closing. read more

I was super disappointed in my dining experience. I came at 3:27 on 5/31/16 and ordered orange peel chicken, chow mein, and wontons. First of all, it took 30 minutes to cook the food. That's insane. I would get faster service at a full service restaurant, with a waiter and table side service. The noodles were drenched in oil, totally inedible and the chicken was strait charred burnt. What a waste of my time and money. I blame the cook. Sorry guys, gotta get that in check. The cashier was super sweet. I could tell he sensed the slowness in service. PUS teased us daily for months as we waited for its grand opening. The novelty soon wore off when we found that while it delivered more of a Chinese dinner experience, it couldn't out-meat Panda Express. It's also not all that authenically Chinese cost-wise, so I almost wasn't surprised when the cashier said "$49.95" for an order of lettuce wraps, the 2fer Tuesday deal (two chicken entrees for $10.99), pad thai with chicken, and house special beef, and reluctantly handed over two $25 gift cards. Then my creaky brain ground out the figures, and I exclaimed, "That can't be right - that's an average of $10 each and I had a free entree coupon too!" I tried to lower the price by removing a item, but it was too late since he'd already swiped one of the cards. Somewhere in my disbelieving exchange I realized he must have said "$29.95", but before I could explain why I had questioned (other than I'm a frugal Chinese matron), as a manager, he offered to just use one of the gift cards and comp the rest. Of course we really enjoyed the meal then! It was the first time we'd ordered the lettuce wraps - they are a great deal - enough meat to make at least six. The meat to batter ratio in the crispy honey chicken was just right, and it actually stayed crispy. Personally, I don't like the gummy consistency of the House Special Beef, but that's my son's favorite. I do love the won ton, but there's just not enough for the price. The garlic chicken was tasty and the pad thai was great as usual... I think we had just been ordering the wrong things like orange and kung pao chicken. They seem to be more aggressive with the specials and coupons now, so maybe we'll eat there more often (okay, I was bought). read more

We saw the commercials on Tv and then saw on on our vacation. All I can say is Yuk! Everything was very sweet tasting but the Honey Chicken tasted like orange chicken and then I had one piece that tasted like of kung pao chicken. What ? I tasted my wife's portion of Vegetable and Chicken. Not great either. The time it took to cook. Over ten minutes. I would have expected more. No taste buds in this place. Not very good, came for lunch,ordered shrimp Kung pao with brown rice. Took over 25 min to receive order. When I got it, it was not very good. Sauce was tangy, shrimp had shriveled up and there were not many. There was maybe one peanut in there. All in all, Panda would have been better. Thankfully, they are not in NorCal read more

The card reader was not working well the day we went to eat here. So we had to order first and pay halfway through our food being brought to our table. We order some mongolian beef, orange chicken, won-tons and some chow mein. The Mongolian beef was a bit too salty but the beef was tender. The orange chicken had just the same amount of Orange slices as Chicken...kind of a bad deal. The wontons tasted a bit like the cheese had gone bad and was not that pleasant. The only thing I did enjoy was the noodles. Probably wont be making Pick up Stix my first choice next time. read more

I lived in the area for over 10yrs...I have gone to this place three times since they opened. The first time I said I dont care for it I wont go back, then I went back, and that time I said that's it.Finally recently I wanted a side of cooked rice to eat with my chicken at home and since it was close by I went yet one more time..I ended up ordering a lunch special..duh. I got home and literally I counted literally 4 pieces of chicken and the usual, a bunch of chunky poorly chopped veggies in a sugar based soy sauce..just really not enjoyable at all.. I genuinely love Pick Up Stix. It's hard to find a "fast food" Chinese restaurant that truly tries to keep their food as healthy as possible and Pick Up Stix does just that. The ambiance is good for fast food, especially since they added the booths. I prefer to sit outside when I go or even take my food to go & walk to South Carlsbad State Beach Campsites. I got the garlic chicken lunch, which came with steamed veggies and your choice of white or brown rice. They also give you cream cheese wontons with a dipping sauce when you order the lunch special. Lastly, the remodel involved putting in a gaming center with 3 tablets in the back of the restaurant that people can sit at and play on. I didn't personally play but it seemed like this would be a big hit. read more

WORST EVER! Cashier only staff when we arrived (should have been 1st clue). Bad service, cashier was unable to answer any question regarding the food. Cashier confused when we ordered, had to remind her what is was we ordered and that it was to go, she was easily confused and undertrained. Cook strolled in from the back about 5 minutes after we ordered to prepare our food. Not fast food. The Mongolian beef was not served over rice noodles but really soggy white rice and the flavor was strange and nasty. All in all I'd give them a -1 star if possible.
