YELP 100 CHALLENGE 2017 - PART 2: 68/100 Hubbers was thrilled to learn there was one less than 2 miles away from LGB! I was, of course, excited for him. After all, this is one of his favorite spots! We decided to order cream cheese wontons, 2 house special beef (spicy), garlic shrimp and Chinese chicken salad. Got the entrees with an order of brown rice, white rice and noodles. Everything for takeout. We knew it was gonna take a minute since everything is made to order. It's not like we were in some kinda rush, so no biggie. The food smelled amazing in the car. It's a good thing home was less than 20 minutes away. This is probably the third Pick Up Stix joint I've visited and I gotta say all three are pretty consistent. The beef is still bomb. The garlic shrimp is also delicious, and just like the other two spots, there's that disproportionate ratio of shrimp and vegetables - a ton of veggies, a few pieces of small shrimp. (I might just stop ordering this. Hardly worth it.) First time trying the cream cheese wontons. I'm normally not a fan, but these were not bad! Even better with the sauce! Chinese chicken salad was also delicious, but I've had better. Ditto with the noodles, but I must say it was pretty tasty. Service was great. Packaging was good - the food was still hot when we got home. Overall okay experience. 3.5 stars for now. Hubbers might just be flying into LGB much more often now. read more

I'm so sad to write this review. We have been going to the place for over a decade and I think we just had our last visit. Everything has really gone downhill. Where in the past you were given a carton with the food item in it, they now place the protein item in the same container as your "side" (rice, noodles) so the sauce is all over everything and it is impossible to share the way you would normally do with Asian takeout. It seems like corporate probably thought this was a "smart" way to make the portion smaller but trick you into thinking you are getting the same amount of food. On top of this the food was soooo salty and extra sweet at the same time (more than Asian takeout should be) and really the food wasn't good enough to justify the tiny portions with high price tag. The only redeeming quality was that the staff was friendly. read more

One of my dad's best friends just died. So we asked him what he'd like for dinner and sadly, he said Pick Up Stix. They used to pack proteins in Chinese food cartons, now they give you way less meat and shove it in a tray container with rice. The chicken dishes we got were...okay. But the beef and broccoli and house beef were both dry, chewy and basically without sauce. The place has gone down hill over the years, but this experience has turned my family off of Pick Up Stix completely. Maybe other locations are better, but I doubt it. I realize they close at 8:30 but I had done this a few times before and never had an issue. My hubby went in to get our order and said it wasn't quite done but that's not the issue.
