We hadn't been to Pickles Pub for a couple of years, but happily decided to go there for lunch because they have 1/2 price wings on Mondays; wife loves wings. I'd looked at the menu on-line last night and had decided to get one of the so-called "Teasers," the fried shrimp basket. Don't let the "Teasers" label mislead you -- this was a full meal. Seven huge jumbo shrimp in a fantastic and tasty batter, cooked perfectly (no rubbery or mushy shrimp) with a large helping of boardwalk fries. Those fries alone would bring me back. My wife got her wings extra crispy, with an agave sauce and blue cheese. I had to try one, and they were really cooked to perfection. She also got the Brussels sprouts with a chili sauce. She loved 'em, but I can't attest to their quality since I'm just not a sprout fan. Finally, my wife got the pulled pork sandwich (almost all of which came home for later snacking). I had a bite of that and agree with her assessment that it was good and that the BBQ sauce was very good -- fries dipped in that BBQ instead of ketchup were excellent. The last thing was a side of potato salad, which just needed some celery to make it great -- we got a to-go order of that, too. Making the whole experience really great was the service. Great place to hang out, play pool and watch sports! Kind of dingy but what do you expect from a sports bar. Went to watch Liverpool in the middle of the day and it was empty. Got the frickles which were amazing, and the buffalo shrimp tacos, both split with 2 people. The crush drinks were amazing, especially the grapefruit. There was only one waitress taking care of the few of us, but overall service wasn't bad. I'd definitely want to check it out during the night time to see how lively it gets. read more

Do NOT visit this place!!! The waitresses have no regard for your time nor have any patience to deal with any issues involving your food! I was asked to pay for my food after not even tasting my first bite simply because I found a long blonde hair in it!!!? Absurd! And when I told them I wouldn't order anything else and just pay for my one and only drink they threatened to call the police! The server was a blonde and surely it was her own nasty hair and took absolutely no responsibility for it and mentioned it must of been something that "flew" into it while walking???! It is the off-season and barely anything is open. I walked in and, for novelty sake, ordered the angus burger with crab dip which goes by the name, The Eastern Shore. I also ordered the fries and a couple of beers. Crab dip on a burger in OCMD seemed kitschy at first, but, man, did it work! I highly recommend this choice and will be trying to replicate it at home. The fries were also top notch. It seems like I ordered some tacos a few years ago and was impressed. The bartender was friendly and attentive which isn't a given nowadays. Horrible all around! Called to make a reservation before we walked over 2 miles with 5 kids. They said no problem, come in. We got there exactly at the time we said we would, and the hostess told us that they were no longer seating people, as the kitchen was 'overwhelmed'. So i explained the situation to her, that we had given our name, number of people and time and that they had told us our reservation was confirmed. She said 'i don't care, we won't seat you, kitchen is busy'. So i asked, 'can we sit and just have a few drinks while we wait?'. She said no. We were all completely shocked and frustrated! Very rude staff and why make a reservation if they won't honor it? Now with 5 hungry kids in tow; we had to find another restaurant to accommodate 10 people. Very aggravating! We came here on a rainy day for happy hour and we had a pretty fun time... The fried pickles were GREAT!!! The buffalo chicken quesadillas were more like spicy chicken not quite the buffalo flavor I was looking for... the cheesesteak torpedos were great b/c of the sauce especially.. their nuclear wings are VERY hot- we ended up walking around the bar and daring people to try it... most people just had one bite... only one person actually could handle that flavor... cheap beer and pool.. The managers of the place harassed my family and children. I've never seen anything like this. Not only that, they wouldn't stop insulting our table. Even the waiter who was great was upset about having to clean up the mess that management made. They were drinking before their shift and throwing ice. It was unreal. Then they tried to blame us for bringing kids into the establishment. It was 7:00 and they have a kids menu. It also states that they have the restaurant open to children until 9. We could not find much open during a trip to OC in December, but we found Pickles Pub through Yelp. We were pleasantly surprised at the bar/restaurant and the food. We started with the "Feeling Crabby Dip", which tasted great and came with warm, fresh from the oven sliced french bread. I ordered the "Bacon-Me-Crazy" sandwich which was piled high with crispy thick bacon, a melted pepper jack cheese and a sweet blackberry jam which just pulled the whole thing together (there is an option to add Fiery Jalepenos but I left them off). My daughter ordered the "Jumbo Fried Shrimp" which, although they were not really jumbo, smelled delicious and tasted just as good. We topped off our dinner with frozen crush drinks, a "Cucumber Lime Crush" and a "Creamsicle", both of which were really good. We highly recommend Pickles, both as a family place for dinner, and a good place to hang out with friends later in the evening and watch a game. read more

Great service, great drinks, and they're open on the off season too which is especially great when nothing else is open in the area. And they always have $2 pickle shots! The food was wonderful. I had the crab dip grilled cheese which was just as amazing as it sounds. The fried pickles were great and there were so many of them. My boyfriend said the Hawaiian burger with the pineapple was one of the best burgers he's ever had. I'm with my girlfriend and we are on vacation visiting from NY. We made an attempt to come to this bar for 3 nights in a row. The line was always out the door and we didn't ever make it inside until Sunday night. After a short period of time there (with excellent service from the bartenders) we were going to leave to head to a different bar. As we were closing our tab, we met Ryan the Kid, and it was because of him that we decided to spend the remainder of the night at this bar. After striking out at two restaurants earlier (the waiting time was just ridiculous) my family decided to come to this place. This place was really good. It has a Huge bar which can accomadate a lot of people plus a dining area. Even with two small children this place was very acommodating even for our big family ( 9 in total) For appetizers i ordered the soft pretzel trio that came with 3 different dips and they were very good. it comes with buffalo, crabby and cheddar cheese. for dinner i had the Big Kahuna Burger which was very very good. The crab dips are AMAZING - particularly the tots - the pretzel dip one is a good starter; the tots are for professionals. And as the name suggests, the pickelbacks deliver. Standard Rum and Coke, standard price. Nothing to write home about on food/drink. Service was awesome. Bartender brought out a cake for my girlfriend for her birthday with a candle. I sung to her and the dj played a song for her at the same time. Really awesome job. There is a liquor store attached to this place and why not? Crowd: Lot's of diverse backgrounds and home towns. This place is just okay. Our waitress wasn't too friendly and appeared to be annoyed when we asked (twice) for straws. We split the crabby tots which were pretty good, a little too much cheese and normally that's not an issue for me. I ordered a veggie burger with pepper jack cheese but wasn't added to it. Whenever I'm in town, I stop by Pickles Pub because I always stay at a hotel that is less than one block away. Tonight was the last time. The service was awful, the wings were soaked in grease, and if you want to add extra charges to my bill, you need to let me know in advance. And never hand someone the bill, and say, here you go. Their happy hour is misleading. Before you order anything on the happy hour menu, always clarify it. They obviously don't know or do not care. As a former server, that is totally unacceptable. The blonde bartender that was mentioned in an earlier review was doing shots with her customers while on duty. Her service definitely reflected that. read more

I never write bad reviews anywhere! But if you look young this is definitely not the place for you. I'm from Jersey and they took my ID (I'm 27) and my sister's (she's 29) drivers license IDs from us. They called the police to verify- which is fine- but the police apparently said they weren't coming so there was no way to verify. I absolutely appreciate everything servers have to go through to provide a service, but I offered multiple forms of secondary ID (passport, credit cards, debit cards) and they refused to accept it and serve us drinks or even food!!! Definitely put a damper in the trip. Spend your money on some of the other awesome bars and restaurants in the area! read more
