Stopped into pickles during the off season for happy hour on a Tuesday. Their happy hour deals are pretty good but the menu is limited. I like this Pickles because it's close to the boardwalk and it's very spacious inside. There's an outdoor patio, tons of seating, pool and other games, and a stage for bands/live music. The bartender was attentive and the food came out hot. My boyfriend liked the shrimp and the serving of fries was massive. You only get 3 mozz sticks with your order but they're pretty large sticks. We were seated quickly, and our waiter was friendly and helpful in walking us through the menu options. Taste: The game day menu was impressive, with plenty of choices under $10. Fun little dive bar in the middle of Ocean City. Some decent happy hour prices. Everyone seems to love the pickle shots... I did not partake. Their burgers were very good, The hangover Burger was delicious. It says they have house-made chips but they seem just like a bag of potato chips with old Bay poured on top... I would say go with the upgraded fries. The Hot BBQ wings were tasty, they are award-winning according to their menu. They were nice big wings with good flavor. Inside is a bar, tables, high tops, they have pool tables. Place is covered with stickers and signs fun things to look at. They do have a stage for music during the on season probably. Probably wouldn't return. 1) We ordered a mixed drink and a beer. I did not get Captain Morgan as requested but I was assured that's what I was served. 2) The pretzel appetizers were good. They came with 3 different dipping sauces which was a treat. 3) We ordered the fried shrimp basket and the chicken sandwich. The shrimp were raw and the chicken was tough and strangely crunchy. 4) We received a $5 credit on our bill for being served raw shrimp. Not the best customer service when you think that I may have left with a food borne illness. Perhaps comping the meal would have been a more prudent move. 5) Our server, the "Twerk King", was friendly and efficient. 6) Lastly, the bathroom was disgusting! Pickles Pub serves typical American-fare bar food. I was super excited to come to OC for some fresh seafood. So, I ordered the shrimp basket for takeout. I'm still thinking about those shrimp LOL. I've never been here, but drove past it so many times. After listening to a podcast of a bartender that worked there years ago, we decided to finally check it out. Fun atmosphere, pub food, and some beers. The steamed shrimp were better than most places we used to go to. PB&J wings tasted great and the Nashville hot chicken sandwich on a waffle was quite good. Easy parking and a place we'd return to. Probably not every year, but on nights we want just pub-like food, we'd be back. Maybe even just for an early drink and the steamed shrimp. Stopped for dinner this week and the whole experience was ruined by the rude guy who demanded ID when we walked in (that's a first, we are not 2O year olds who are trying to drink your overpriced swill). The place was empty, Service was awful. Employees were drinking shots behind the bar. It's a big place and there may have been 6 people at the bar, yet the employees acted like we were breaking up their private party to pour us a beer. They have walk up bar service right now which was fine, we did sit at the bar which was great because it's a rarity for us. Our food order came out quickly and everything was delicious. We got the crabby pretzel, philly cheese steak egg rolls and Buffalo shrimp tacos. And while at pickles you have to do a "pickle" shot. They are sooooo good! This review is for the off-season because this is the only time we come. During the off-season it becomes a happy locals place and that's a good thing because you get really accurate reviews from people you know and it has encouraged us to go to pickles three times since September. A particular visit of note was when four couples got together In October for lunch and we all had a great time. Our service was good and so was the food and the prices were right. Bryan was our great server. I was five days away from having back surgery and still visibly disabled. He saw this and made sure that I had very comfortable seating. He went above and beyond. What a nice guy!!! On this occasion I had the Pub burger with Potato salad and pickle. YUM! We all shared a Chicken nachos platter that was huge and a very enjoyable Pretzel platter. So, I would rave about the bar food but that would not do justice to food that is first rate. This is a bar with a real kitchen and, I imagine, a very experienced cook. The wings are in the top 3 for this town. The brussels sprouts were cooked perfectly and you can customize the sauce. The fried shrimp were huge and super crispy. And the boardwalk French fries beat out the wildly popular Thrashers-they are a destination item unto themselves-wow. Service was the best, as Brock was constantly attentive and helpful without being intrusive. Don't let the sad looking place keep you from coming.
