My boyfriend took me to this restaurant because he knows how much I love my tacos lol. I was very impressed our waitress was extremely friendly and the meal was great. We ordered guacamole with fresh crabmeat and chips and I had the pastrami tacos, who would've thought of such a thing! I'm glad they did. My boyfriend had the LA burrito. Both of us enjoyed our meals. He had been there before so he knew already how great it was. Had to give him some points for bringing me to this spot. I'm looking forward to the summer to go back after a nice beach day. Ever since I moved away from Rockaway, I literally dream about the guac w/ crab and the shrimp empanadas from Pico. Their food is hipster Mexican, but without too much added pretentiousness which I find to be the perfect mix, and something Rockaway was lacking! I have never encountered a server/bartender/manager working there who wasn't super polite and accommodating. Their layout is really nice in that you can casually sit at the bar with a few tacos and a beer, or for fancier occasions there are tables closer to the back and a bit separated. Definitely call for a reservation though if you have a bigger party - especially in the summer and weekends (common sense, people). Other food from Pico I dream about: the street corn and the pastrami tacos. Strangely enough I haven't had many of their specialty cocktails, but that's just because their classic margarita is so amazing. I would definitely recommend Pico to anyone asking for food ideas in Rockaway, and can't wait for my next visit! read more

Can't believe all of the positive reviews for this place. Ate here yesterday and everything was awful, except for the margaritas. The guacamole lacks any flavor and would appear to be merely mashed avocados. The rice and beans are completely devoid of flavor. It's as though they opened up a box of Goya yellow rice and a can of Goya Black beans and just put it on a plate. The rice and beans are served with an odd sort of cabbage preparation, Mexican cole slaw? It's also terrible. My wife and I both had taco entrees. She got chorizo and I got chicken. The chicken is horrendous. It is a shredded glob of flavorless meat. Also, the actual tacos they use are a terrible product. They are mealy and soak up all the liquid from the filling, culminating in a big mess. My wife's chorizo was ok, probably the only reason this review is one star instead of zero. If this place wasn't in rockaway it would be out of business. read more

Went for lunch with one of my best friends. We were feeling indulgent and had appetizers, guacamole, tacos and dessert. The guacamole was delicious and had a spice I couldn't quite place. The meat is smoked/cured in house and is paired just right with the taco fixings. The tres leches is to die for - it's not every day I stumble across tres leches, but when I do, I'm sure to come back. read more

This is a local place for me living in the rockaways there aren't that many places to eat. I only went there once for the fish tacos and they were OK but they weren't what I expected the people told me it was the best. My only problem with Pico is I don't get there often enough! Really fine place to dine with family and friends. I've tried a few of the Mexican dishes and they were delicious and original. I just had the burger on my last visit.... oh my goodness. Probably the best burger in town! And that sauce that goes with it... onion strings... can't wait to go back. read more

Pico is the best the Rockaway peninsula has to offer from a food quality, ambiance, and service standpoint. Their smoke-infused take on the Mexican palate has been a welcome addition to Rockaway's commercial district. From top to bottom, the food and drink menu is highlighted by its use of fresh ingredients - something hard to come by in our secluded beach town-turned-hipster-enclave. DISCLAIMER - from a cost standpoint, the joint is not for those barreling each other over for $10.95 Wednesday four course dinners at the Blarney Castle or 2-for-1 burgers at Jameson's. High quality comes with it an inherent cost, but Pico is still reasonable enough to make it a monthly weekend dinner spot with a group of friends. The only call from the masses would be for Margarita's to be offered in pitcher quantities (as the Sangria is) to give a break to those sticking around for more than just one drink. The place is killing it, but $9.00 for a 10 oz. Margarita LOADED with ice comes off as a bit of an ear pinch from the school principal. The place hasn't quite adopted a healthy buyback policy yet either - in Rockaway it is supposed to be every third drink, right Pat Brady? read more

Came for dinner after the beach and was very pleasantly surprised- nice ambiance (relaxed but a little upscale), excellent service (our waitress was unbelievably accommodating and patient with a picky five-year-old) delicious margaritas and really good food. Highly recommend the nachos and all the tacos we tasted were great (smoked chicken, grilled fish, chorizo, grilled shrimp). Will certainly be our go-to when next we're in the area. read more

Pico Margarita strong and well made. Creamy guacamole. Excellent shrimp empanadas. Fish tacos are a solid choice. Always good selection of specials. EXCELLENT service. Great cozy booths in front for families, sports screens at bar, stand up island, back dining area more formal. Great decor. Only drawback is it can be very loud and you will wait for a table on a weekend and especially in the summer. Parking can be a challenge on 129th. Skip dessert/coffee and head a few doors down to the Italian Bakery if you have room. Walk off the meal a few blocks away at the beach ;) read more

So happy we have a great Mexican resturant in our neck of the woods. No more going to Long Island or other parts of queens to get authentic Mexican food. The lunch special is awesome for two taxis rice beans and coleslaw for $10. My wife loves their wine :) big screen TV's so you can watch your favorite sports. Came here after a long day at the beach with friends. Had the deal with a beer and a shot. The decor of this place is really nice and cozy. We are a group that orders a lot and shares everything. We ordered everything from tacos, guac, burrito, tostadas, enchiladas and tortas. I can't give you specifics because I tried a little of everything - and it was all amazing!! I love Mexican food and I found it all to be perfectly seasoned and well balanced. Safe to say you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The server we had was hilarious and really chill. We aren't in rockaway often, but this place is so good it's worth the trip. We have decided it's a must after every beach visit! read more

This is by far the best restaurant in the area tempted to give it a 4 star review because of some of the wait staff, but I just can't because of how good the smoked meats are! I l9ve near by and my wife and I can literally eat here every lunch and never get bored, the bar is also a great place to meet up with friends and grab some beer as they always have a great craft selection. I'm honestly giving this place 3 stars because of the decor and the great service. The sangria was great and I love the way they make use of old tequilla bottles. The only thing I didn't like was the food. Not that the food was bad or anything, it's just not authentic mexican food. I was expecting an authentic mexican meal with my family who we are of latino descent and this was not mexican food, not even close to spanish. The only thing authentic I would say was the guacamole and chips. The tacos were small and had no resembalance to what im used to at home and other mexican restaraunts and the black beans for some reason tasted like there was tarragon or cayenne pepper in it....I was very disappointed....the place is beautiful though, just not my cup of tea. read more

Even though I live down the block from pico, I have never been there until last week to meet friends from Brooklyn, who swear by this place. I thought that Pico was outrageous from the beautiful decor to the great bar and service. The food was great loved the brisket tacos and pastrami tacos and the Mexican corn. We stopped by Pico Restaurant for a late afternoon snack on Memorial Day after taking a stroll around Fort Tilden. After perusing the menu online, we were excited about a taco flight, which would've included 1 of each taco Pico had to offer for only $28, but unfortunately we were warned upon getting there that there was a limited midday menu. That being said, it looked like all the menu items were available, but not the taco flight. We decided on the crab meat guacamole, escarole, and 3 tacos: House Smoked Brisket, Pescado Asada, and Carnitas. Pretty much everything we ordered was delicious and plentiful for the price. To start, the chips that accompany the guac are crispy but not oily, a little bit on the thick side, but no complaints about that here. The crab meat guac had chunks of both avocado and crab meat. I wished that the crab meat was slightly more broken down to ease chip pickup, but that's just me being nitpicky. Add the red house made hot sauce; you won't be disappointed. The escarole was great -- a lot lighter tasting than the very popular Cafe Habana, which was refreshing on the hot day that we went. All the tacos were pretty good, but it's the tomatoes that stole the show here. They were sweet and reminiscent of tomatoes we've sampled in Italy. We asked the waiter who their distributors were, and he mentioned they source them locally from a guy in Brooklyn. Who knew? Will definitely be back the next time I find myself in the Rockaways. read more

Incredible food!! I'll be coming back every time I visit Rockaway. The only thing was the wait, so maybe call ahead if you plan on going during dinner time. As a Rockaway resident, I am ecstatic that I am able to dine at Pico in my hometown. This is by far my favorite Mexican food restaurant. I enjoyed their taco lunch special, although I was unfortunately unable to try their cocktails (which looked absolutely delicious as I glanced at other diners' drinks at the bar and other tables). The food is amazing (by far the best tacos I've had), service is great, and the decor is quaint and cute. I will definitely be stopping by again and next time I'll definitely try some cocktails as well. read more

My husband and I went to Pico for the first time today and must say food was DELICIOUS. We ordered the brisket ahumadas and camarones taco entree. Brisket was tender, juicy, and well seasoned. The camarones tacos was really good. Loved the shrimps it was grilled topped with guacamole, tomatoes and sour cream....yummmyyyy!!! Drinks we had were also GREAT. Hubby had Fires out and I had a frozen raspberry margarita. Very friendly atomosphere, clean and the waitress was really nice. Best of all price was reasonable. One of the best chicken burritos I've ever had..and huge portions! Also the service was really good - a partner of the restaurant came up to our table multiple times to ensure we (me and my three friends) were taken care of.
