    Mini mixed berry balsamic pie.
    Vicky B.

Stopped here yesterday after ordering two pies to pickup on Friday. Overall a very mixed experience. First, the service in the shop and the breakfast we ate were wonderful. I had a breakfast sandwich on a buttermilk biscuit with scrambled eggs, sausage and cheese. 5 stars, 6 if I could. The best breakfast sandwich I have had and I know my BEC! Husband had pancakes, eggs, sausage patty with potatoes- excellent. The coffee was very good. Breakfast and service 5 stars (although on the pricey side) We had ordered an apple pie and a cherry pie to take away. Ordering was odd, when I called on Friday morning the gentleman who took my order didn't seen clear on what would be available and what he did say was limited- several things listed online were not available and they didn't seem to be making any more for Sat. Anyway picked up apple and cherry, also a small mixed berry balsamic and a couple of salts walnut chocolate chip. All of the pies were very disappointing. Taste and texture of pies that have sat for a few days. Filling was very dry. The apples were very firm, spice mix was heavy on the cinnamon sugar mix. If the apples had cooked more and been allowed to give off some juice that would have been nice. Crusts were very thick, not flaky. Decent flavor. The cherry had whole crusty which was nice but fairly flavorless. The mixed berry balsamic was very disappointing. The filling was solid, almost a bread pudding consistency and again very thick crust. The cookies were wonderful. Long story short, I'd give a pass on the the pies and had another breakfast sandwich with cookies!

The drink menu is straightforward offering hot & iced drinks including coffee, espresso, cappuccino, machiatos, lattes, tea (cup or pot to stay), iced tea and cold brew (coming soon at the time of posting). They also have a few baked goods for sale to go with your drink. I stopped by Black Cat Coffee recently for coffee. I got a Medium 12 oz Hot Coffee ($3 plus tax) which was very very hot and definitely needed a cardboard hot drink sleeve from the creamer & sweetener station. The service here was prompt. The coffee was brewed just right and no bitter taste, even drinking it black. I took advantage of the free wifi to catch up on news while enjoying my hot breakfast food I picked up from another cafe with my hot coffee.

We ordered three sandwiches, and at the time my husband placed the order, he was the only customer there. While we were waiting, two other customers came in, clearly friends of the cook and spent time chatting with her about everything from yoga classes to NYC's Mamdami. After their conversation, they placed their order and received their food before we did, as well as before another couple who had also been waiting. It was frustrating and honestly disappointing to see others served first despite arriving later. We've visited before and had a lovely experience, which makes this even more unfortunate. I believe the woman assisting us at that time may have been the owner or a manager, which makes the situation more concerning. It's a shame because the space and food are wonderful, but today it felt like you need to personally know the cook to receive timely service.

Really cute, kitschy general store/grocery/cafe we stopped at for a bite before skiing nearby…read more Service was friendly, but it wouldn't be my first stop if I were in a rush. They had a ton of food items to peruse through while waiting for our egg sandwiches, most of which were or were made from local produce (farm location listed on the item, which I love). Sandwiches were tasty and the store itself was a lovely space with a sweet, small town vibe that earned it 4 stars; but I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the astronomical pricing of everything in the place. For one egg and melted cheese on a bun, it cost $7. To add bacon to that, an additional $5. The sandwich is not large, and the $5 bacon is one slice, cut in half and folded into the center of the roll. For comparison, two eggs on a bagel with either a large sausage patty or enough bacon to cover the entire sandwich, is typically about $6-$7, in a relatively expensive locale. Another important note, the size of the breakfast resulted in both my husband and nephew having to order additional food. At $12 a pop, the sandwich should be more than enough to satisfy an average appetite. Coupled with the pricing of the other items for sale, like baked goods and $12 fresh eggs (which neighbors often give for free or $5/dozen) - it gives the impression that you're being swindled. I live in an area known for high prices, I don't expect things to be cheap. But this felt like they were pricing that high because they're one of the only shops in town and they can, and not because the items are worth that much. The food is yummy and the store is a lovely, small town-type gem that is worth a visit, but the pricing is simply unfair so expect to pay more for less.

Boy, are we glad we did. At first glance, the menu seemed pretty simple with limited options, but sometimes less is more and that was definitely the case here. We started with the banana milk, and it was phenomenal. You could taste the fresh banana in every sip, perfectly blended and not overly sweet. My wife ordered the strawberry milkshake and it was just as impressive; creamy, refreshing, and full of real strawberry flavor. For food, we shared the turkey sandwich, which was out of this world. The flavors were balanced beautifully with fresh veggies and just the right amount of sauce. To top it off, we ordered the waffles with fresh fruit, which were absolute perfection. The waffles came off the grill hot and crisp, paired with vibrant, fresh fruit, and drizzling rich maple syrup onto them was the highlight of the meal. The place itself is small and cozy, with a cabin-style charm that makes you feel right at home. It's the kind of place where you can relax, enjoy simple but incredibly well-made food, and appreciate the little details that set it apart. Can't forget the staff as they made the experience incredible as well with the quick service. I'm already looking forward to my next visit when I'm on a road trip up north. This is definitely a hidden gem worth going out of your way for.

We take out seat in the very cool back room, and only after 5 or so minutes the drink and food arrives. Now I am a complete foodie, really tough on everything I eat, but after one bite I was in love. To the point where I asked Lauren, the owner, what mustard they were using, and then ordered a panini press when I got home hoping to recreate the magic. Perfectly chewy bread, just the right balance of sweet and savory, and that mustard. Truly amazing. My wife ordered the avocado toast which she said was perfection. I wish I could bundle this place up and ship it to New Haven because I'd be eating one of those sandwiches every week. As for everything else: The service was great. The atmosphere laid back and funky. Everything was reasonable priced. LOVE LOVE LOVE Cafe Joust!
