I originally visited PieconicNY for a yelp event and enjoyed that experience. The staff members there were wonderful, friendly and helpful. So, I decided to send a couple of pies to my stepmom for her birthday and ordered them from the website. Unfortunately, the pies did not arrive in time for her birthday - so I had to call and find out what happened. Long story short, they only ship pies on certain days of the week. It wasn't clear that I had somehow missed a deadline...so I'll blame myself for not reading (or, perhaps understanding) the fine print and also say that there's some room for improvement on the website re: shipping expectations/communications. If a customer is paying almost as much as a pie costs for expedited shipping, it's assumed that the order will go out within a day or two of the initial order. The owner actually called me to talk me through it - which was very nice - and he even offered to drive the pies to me (not realizing that I was shipping to another state). Anyway - the pies did eventually get there and they reported back: -shipping/packaging was great -arrived frozen as advertised -they kept frozen until Easter -the crown maple pecan pie was the favorite - hands down winner -the Empire State bourbon chocolate - very rich but (their opinion) - the bourbon flavor was a little too heavy handed. Overall the products here are good quality and I'd check in again at some point. read more

I've read the other reviews and I'm beginning to believe that people's preferences for pies is similar to people's preferences for pizza. Everyone has their own idea of what makes the perfect pie/pizza. I agree with those who praise the service they received. We found Lena to be very helpful and informative. As is pointed out on their website, you can't be certain that they will have the pie flavor you crave if you are a walk-in. Yes, you can order a pie ahead of time, but plan on giving them 48 to 78 hours, and all flavors may not be available to you. Their most popular pies are the Bourbon Chocolate Walnut, the Backyard Apple, and the Chocolate Ecstasy. We tried three "different" pies. I emphasize "different" because not only was each flavor different, but each pie was also different from any similar flavored pie we've ever had. One common difference was the crust. None of the pies had a flaky crust. Instead, the end crusts had a heavy, dense texture that was difficult to cut. It was a good-flavored crust, however. The Chocolate Ecstasy was nicely rich, flavorful, and not overly dense. The Bourbon Chocolate Walnut had a filling that approached the look of a quiche with pieces of walnut and chocolate chips. There was a hint of bourbon flavor, and it was my wife's favorite. The Double Blueberry Crumble may have been my favorite, but my wife tasted an herb flavor that turned her off. This may be why I thought it surprisingly had a savoriness flavor. No herbs were listed on the ingredients. We also purchased a Lemon Cookie. Nice strong lemon flavor, soft and chewy, but once again it was not like any cookie I'd had before because it was as thick as a single layer cake. The coffee we tried was average and lacked the boldness I prefer. There were obviously many things that we did not try. If we are back in the area I'd consider stopping in to try something like a quiche, muffin or cheesecake. read more

The event was part of a yelp sponsored experience. I rsvp'd to this event and thought I would stop by on my way to NYC. Though one of my yelp friends, Jem.B and Mike, were able to accomplish that, I was a day too early in my planning. Now I get to drive past Pieconic tomorrow, and may be stop by again and pick up a pie, muffin, cheesecake, or quiche. I would have wanted to try their Empire State Bourbon Chocolate Pie, which was featured on NBC's Today show, but picked a well-deserved alternative, Godfather Chocolate Amaretto Pie. The pie was flaky on the outside, gooey on the inside with a punch of chocolaty liqueur. I also got to try peppermint try and bought a lemon blueberry muffin to take home for my son. Most of the ingredients are sourced locally and prepared by Christopher or Wendy. Christopher has managed hotel portfolios for the Prince of Saudi and Emir of Qatar, and has been a chef at few of New York's grandest hotels, the Pierre, Plaza, Peninsula, Regency and Regent Hotels. If you are in the area, I recommend you stop in, as they are just a mile away from the charming center of Chatham. We first came across Pieconic at Big Rock Market. Had tried their Dutch Apple and Bourbon Chocolate pies. So we were excited to visit the store in person. The new owners Gisselle and Russell were super friendly. They seemed to be focusing more on hand pies for pickup rather than whole pies. We tried their lemon curd, slow roasted pork, and beef hand pies. All three were very tasty. We also tried an "experimental cheesecake" which was solid even if the recipe was obviously going to be tweaked. I think they're doing a pretty good job of trying to stay true to the original vision. If you're craving a hand pies or want to roll the dice with what they have in stock it's worth stopping in. read more

SO friendly and the breakfast sandwich was amazing. I couldn't eat all my mine and saved some for the next day, and it was STILL amazing after having been refrigerated and awkwardly reheated in the microwave. While we waited, they offered a free chocolate chip muffin top to sample, and I'm not a huge fan of chocolate chip things, but it was very, very tasty. Pieconic has absolutely the best empanadas I've ever had. The beef filing is mouthwatering good and the dough is spectacular -- soft and buttery as they bake them, rather than fry. They close at 7 and are willing to accommodate you if you are running behind for some reason. They have a variety of handmade goods and an assortment of foods for those in need of a quick bite to eat. There is a good variety of dishes here or you could stick to their famous pies in hand size or a larger pie if you are having a gathering or celebrating something special. This family establishment is owned by great people and the food variety is hard to find at other spots in the area. read more

Stopped here yesterday after ordering two pies to pickup on Friday. Overall a very mixed experience. First, the service in the shop and the breakfast we ate were wonderful. I had a breakfast sandwich on a buttermilk biscuit with scrambled eggs, sausage and cheese. 5 stars, 6 if I could. The best breakfast sandwich I have had and I know my BEC! Husband had pancakes,eggs, sausage patty with potatoes- excellent. The coffee was very good. Breakfast and service 5 stars (although on the pricey side) We had ordered an apple pie and a cherry pie to take away. Ordering was odd, when I called on Friday morning the gentleman who took my order didn't seen clear on what would be available and what he did say was limited- several things listed online were not available and they didn't seem to be making any more for Sat. Anyway picked up apple and cherry, also a small mixed berry balsamic and a couple of salts walnut chocolate chip. All of the pies were very disappointing. Taste and texture of pies that have sat for a few days. Filling was very dry. The apples were very firm, spice mix was heavy on the cinnamon sugar mix. If the apples had cooked more and been allowed to give off some juice that would have been nice. Crusts were very thick, not flaky. Decent flavor. The cherry had whole crusty which was nice but fairly flavorless. The mixed berry balsamic was very disappointing. The filling was solid, almost a bread pudding consistency and again very thick crust. The cookies were wonderful. Long story short, I'd give a pass on the the pies and had another breakfast sandwich with cookies! read more

After stopping in Chatham for a quick day tour, I knew I wanted to check out Pieconic given the reviews. I got a piece of spicy chocolate pie and a spinach and sundried tomato quiche. The spicy chocolate pie was unusual but yummy - I've never had a pie quite that texture or flavor. It made me want to go back and try something else. We had no choice but to hear the appalling soapbox speech about local ingredients, local farms, local partners, mixed by hand (well, I hope so!) etc. etc. etc, .... (The lady there seemed to suffer from logorrhea... ) Back home, big disappointment: the crust of my pecan pie was incredibly hard and the filling was runny... Coffee was not good either: the "bitter-reheated" style. Ultimately: super expensive and ridiculously small slice. Like a feeling of greediness in the air. The pie was one of the worst pies I have ever eaten in my life. It was a blueberry peach crumble pie. The crust was chewy and soggy. The fruit itself was not good, the peaches were canned, and the blueberries were tough skinned, but I did have some cookies that were called Piecrust cookies that were very good read more

Yum yum yum! My mom and I explored Chatham today for the first time and rewarded ourselves to pie at the end. I met Nicole the owner and she gave us samples before making our final selections which was super kind. There is so much to try that I know I'll be back. We selected the Key Lime and Apple pie and they were fabulous. The menu looked so delicious on the wall with what they offer. There is seating both inside and out and parking is easy to find on the street. Definitely a must if you visit Chatham. read more

This bakery is great addition to the area. They have a variety of whole pies, slices, and hand pies. They have sweet and savory bakery items. The biscuit was light and flaky. I also once bought a bourbon custard pie which was delicious. The decor is beautifully homey with plenty of places to sit. I look forward to having breakfast or lunch here soon read more

The food looked good. Up until I saw a hair in my food. No big deal. I asked if it can be remade like any normal person would ask but the response I got was "well it's not my hair, I'm the only person back there". The chef did have short hair and it was obviously not the same length or color of the hair in my food. But this didn't change the fact that there was still a hair in my food. So I asked again if it can be remade. It was at that point I was assured that the "hair" I saw was a piece of egg white. I'm not an idiot, I know what a hair looks like. Unfortunately the chef decided to keep arguing with me over it. While reacting to the attitude from her, I raised my voice and used a few expletives, demanded a refund, and left. I understand businesses are hurt by COVID, and I've worked in the food industry for many years, but you never argue with a customer. The appropriate response would have been "don't worry, we will make it again, I'm sorry". End of story. But that wasn't the case today. I hope this will be a learning experience for the staff. We bought a chicken pot pie to eat at home for dinner. We were told to bake it at 350 degrees for 15 minutes; 75 minutes later it finally looked like it might be hot enough to eat. Although the crust looked inviting, the pie was found to contain only three small pieces of chicken plus four or five slices of carrot. The rest was starch. Very disappointing! This is a very expensive store, and the food is only mediocre. Do yourself a favor and stay away. read more
