Purely a taco review! Ordered the Ribeye and Bone Marrow taco and turned out to be one of the best tacos I've ever had. Whole taco was perfection! First time dining here and let me tell you it's an experience that teleports you to Mexico. We went to celebrate a friend's birthday and from start to finish everything and everyone was wonderful. It was a Friday night and the vibes were great, they had music playing but not too loud where you are unable to hear conversations. We started with some appetizers queso, guac and chips which were delicious! You could taste the freshness of the guacamole. For mains we all got different dishes and every single dish was made to perfection. The flavor in each bite was really good and the portion sizes were perfect for 1 person not too much or too little just the right amount!our server was very attentive and super helpful in walking us through the menu and explaining to us the various dishes! She was really great and it was nice that the manager came over and wished my friend a HBD and checked in on us and how we enjoyed our meals which we all really appreciated. If you're a high-end Mexican restaurant and can't even fry a tortilla chip I've got concerns. Our 1st plate of queso came out with crumbs so I asked for more. The new chips came out soaked in grease. I don't know if the fryer is not working or somebody doesn't know how to use it but these were the worst tortilla chips I've ever had. We were excited to try this restaurant as it is a sister restaurant to Verde which we love. When you walk in there is a beautiful hallway with flowers which opens up to the bar/dining area. Gives off a very similar vibe to Verde but a little more sophisticated. A lot of the same menu items available at Verde but we opted to try something new. The carne asada was perfectly cooked and came with a stuffed jalapeño wrapped in bacon. Would definitely get this again. The pork shank melted in your mouth and was so flavorful. Service was okay, our waiter disappeared for I don't know how long and then we had to wave him down to refill our water and he filled my husband's glass and walked away and had to wave him back to fill mine. You expect better for this higher end restaurant. We wanted something sweet to finish off the meal so we shared the tres leche, smooth and delicious. There is a DJ which can be a good thing but keep the volume at a comfortable level so you can have a conversation and enjoy the people you are spending time with - if I don't want to talk I'll go to a club. Also, we Sat to the side of the bar in a green velvet booth which I thought was great until the table next to us got up and moved our seat and theirs. The seating doesn't seem to be secured. Piedra reminds me of a restaurant you visit while on vacation. DJ spinning good sounds, beautiful decor and delicious food. With the DJ we could still hear our waitress and each other. It was nicely decorated. We both enjoyed our meals. I took the rest of mine home and it was a whole additional meal. Our service was great from our waitress but I'd give them 3.5 stars for the hostess. Our reservation was for 9:00, we literally walked in at 9:14 (they have a 15 min grace period) and two people were in front of us. By the time we got to the hostess (who never left her station) it was like 9:17 and this girl was so cold and flat and said they have a 15 minute grace period and they gave our table away so we have to wait but we can wait at the bar if we'd like. As I pushed back she ignored me and stated again we can wait and it's 9:17. So we concluded they gave our table away before the 15 min was up. We sat at the bar which was kind of tight and the hostess girl looked irritated that she had to come check on us to seat us at our table and even asked if we still want our table since we're at the bar. My lady friends and I chose to go to Piedra after the MJ show at the Murat Theatre. The interior is stunning and provides an upscale ambience. One friend ordered the ceviche as an appetizer to share with the table. She found it too spicy but I thought it was delicious. I ordered Quesabirrias-slow-braised lamb birrria tacos and really enjoyed it. Our Verde Barrel Margaritas were good but not outstanding. (But I'm a professional drinker). Piedra is amazing. The complimentary salsa and beans with the tortilla chips are so good. The drinks were tasty and strong. Our meals were tasty. My husband finished the lamb chops. I ate half my pescado frito and I took the other half home for my children to devour the rest. I definitely recommend this place for an upscale Mexican dining experience. The service was fantastic. Our drinks were forgotten mid meal, but she quickly brought them to us when she realized her mistake. No big deal but if I'm being nit picky then I should subtract at least one star. The ambience is nice. Dim lighting, music, nice decor. However, the food wasn't that great. Queso came out cold. The chips were just okay. I ordered a the classic Arroz Con Pollo, and it was just average. Not nasty, but definitely not great. And at the price point, I expected the food to be DELICIOUS. So I was a little disappointed in that aspect. The service was okay at best. There were 6 of us, so I understand how it can be overwhelming, however a couple of our dishes came back incorrect MULTIPLE TIMES. Also, I ordered a coke and never got it. However, you have to also bring everything else someone expects from a restaurant and Piedra missed the mark in every element of that. To start, we were seated almost 45 minutes after our reservation. This happens, I get that. It truly happens when a place has great food. However, this was one of the most mid meals I've had in a very long time. Everyone at the table ate less than half of their meal. The drinks were good though. However, it took us almost an hour to get drinks each time we ordered. Mind you, there wasn't a massive crowd. To add insult to injury, the service was nowhere near what you would expect for spending over $200 for a dinner for three. read more

Nevertheless, I will not return--the "music" was loud and pounding --and despite several requests from our table, was never turned down. The people at our table couldn't hear each other, nor could we hear the waitress--who said several other patrons had asked that the music be turned down, and that the management had refused. Too bad. My wife and I sat at the bar for the second time for dinner. Both times we had almost the exact same experience. Bar tender takes order and vanishes for 10-15 minutes at a time. They are well staffed so that's no excuse. In fact, the servers are doing way more socializing with each other than serving. We were trying to give them some grace being new, but we will not be back. Went to Piedra for the first time tonight and was blown away. They were crazy busy (literally every table and bar seat was taken) but the service was still 10/10. We sat at the bar, and the bartenders were very attentive! They seemed so genuinely happy to have us there and wanted to make sure our experience was enjoyable. Drinks and food were 10/10. The bourbon sangria is made in house and so fresh. We also tried the horchata just for fun and WOW - would buy it by the gallon. Came for Sunday brunch and despite being on time for my reservation I was asked to wait 10 minutes to be seated, which was not a great start. I was impressed by the overall decor and aesthetic; it is a beautiful restaurant. The mimosa trio was a great deal for the price and their cocktail menu looks great. However the food was extremely disappointing. I ordered the breakfast burrito and it was the most bland burrito I've ever had, I can't believe a Mexican restaurant can't season their food properly or make a burrito that at least has some level of flavor. The carrot cake was also basically vanilla cake, was dry, and barely had any frosting. The service was good at the bar but I walked in the walkway behind the bar and two waiters told me rudely to walk all the way around (which if you have been there is not intuitive at all).
