So lucky to live across the high way from Pieous! The pizza and desserts are absolutely divine. This pizza is Neapolitan style, so it's very different from NY style, dip dish and the basic chains like Gattis or Pizza Hut. The pizzas are made small, basically an individual size so don't start complaining when one isn't enough to share. Just get your own! It's more fun that way. Also, the pizza is cooked in a brick oven at 90 seconds, so for those of you who don't know better think Neapolitan pizza is undercooked. AND IT'S NOT!! While visiting family/friends in Austin, I was treated to a dinner out at Pieous. It was absolutely scrumptious and oh-so-filling!!!! We shared a Caesar salad (eaten directly off a pizza pan), which was lightly dressed, not fishy tasting, and delicious! We shared a few pizzas (which are medium-sized and cut in quarters), and I fully enjoyed my customized pizza of pesto sauce/mozzarella/sausage. I would say most people could eat 2 pieces if you're hungry, and 3 if you really pushed it. Also sampled their pastrami, which was moist and flavorful. The soda fountain choices of Maine Root sodas were delectable, and a nice change from the classics. All of this was enjoyed on their outside patio while the kids ran around the grassy area. First of all, the location is excellent with spacious indoor and outdoor seating coupled with a green lawn for the kiddos to unleash their inevitably pent up energy. Tried to call a few times prior to coming to confirm I could bring a cake with me, but ya'll don't answer your phone. Showed up with cake and was told 'sorry - you can't have it here - because 'we sell cake' - I was stunned - not by the policy but by the truly apathetic response I got from the manager. Here I am, a customer, your guest, celebrating something important to me, and I choose you...of all the great places I could have picked in AUSTIN, and the response was 'if I let you, I have to let everyone.' What are we - in 5th grade? Actually, you don't have to 'let everyone' - what you have to do is care about your guest. Here's what you might want to consider: 1. Problems are only problems (in customer service) when your attitude to your guest is 'it's YOUR problem' - how about offering a solution? You're a manger. That's your job. LOOOOOOVE Pieous. We started going when they first started out and got to chat with the owner for a few minutes. Their pizza is amazing, their pastrami plate is incredible, and their caesar salad is a favorite. I loved the old location with the rustic look too. We recently went to the new place in Belterra Village. I'm glad they were able to maintain a lot of the same vibe in a larger space. The outdoor area is adorable and my kids love the little green space to run around in. This is the kind of relaxed vibe I love out this way. One criticism.....please don't ask me how many slices of pizza I have left for a pizza box. I promise I looked at the styrofoam box and for the amount of pizza I had left, I would have had to use at least 6. I understand WHY and I get it, it just takes away from the amazingness Pieous stands for if that makes sense? If you are thinking you will dine inside at this time, eventhough it looks spacious and social distancing is definitely possible, forget it. You will order outside and get your order quickly in a pizza box using the QR scanner on your phone. If you don't know how to use that, well too bad for you. The food, I just had pizza--the meatlovers, which was really great. The only downfall is a hot pizza on a cardboard box tends to get soggy so that is not the dine-in experience and if you are driving 10-15 minutes or more, keep that in mind. Pizza to go has it's limitations. My partner has Multiple Myeloma, I explained that on the WEB they do not post current COVID status and we were not expecting to eat outdoors. He really wanted Pizza and we were going to a nearby vanue for a concert so it was a good lookation--retrospectively, I would have gone somewhere else, like the BBQ place next door with indoor, AC, bathrooms and friendy staff with social distancing. Anyways, I explained that sometimes he has the urgency to go to the bathroom and it's unpredicatable, would it be okay for him to go inside if the need arises? NO. that's it. No waiving for disabilities, and NO portables onsite. The answer for a disabled person is to walk across the walkway to the BBQ place or get in you car and go to the taco place on the hill; can you imagine? Do you know what it is like to have cancer, to be on chemo, to be confined all this time and finally get out to enjoy live music? Really insensitive but kuddos to the local establishments that allow patrons at another restaurant use their bathrooms--if they can why not you? No accommodations and no exceptions, well let's pray you never walk in the shoes of my partner and if you do, you will remember hopefully how unkind you were during the hardtimes. It's how you treat people during hard times that is the real telltale. Finally, as far as your COVID procedures, the tables were dirty and had not been wiped off. You don't have dedicated staff to do that. You don't have hand sanitation sations outside. You don't label your recycling, the pizza boxes are just set to the side and if you notice them, you put them there for recyling but I saw several in the trashcan. Don't you care about the environment? If you do, put up signs and encourage recylcing pizza boxes or perhaps your staff digs them out? Not likely. Put them in a dedicated recepticle. We saw the pastrami on Diners, Drive-ins & Dives and had to look it up online. A few days later we ordered one shipped to California. UPS tried to ruin the experience because whoever attempted delivery did not knock loudly or ring the doorbell at 8pm. And we were paying as close attention as possible. We were able to pick it up at our local UPS Store the next morning. Fortunately, the people at Pieous know how to package their meat VERY well. Even though all the dry ice was gone, the two cold packs were still very cold and all the food was just fine. We had our first meal of pastrami sandwiches tonight and ate a little more than usual. This used to be my favorite pizza place and we've been going for years, but they still haven't fully reopened, the service leaves a lot to be desired, and the quality of the food has slipped. They still are not open for indoor dining, only their patio and service window are open, essentially making this a food truck. They would not let us order at the window and instead we had to order online standing there. The website said 45 minutes and the window attendant said it would probably be longer, but it ended up being ready in closer to 30. Everything packed in to-go styrofoam and plastic bags. We had planned to just split a pizza; however, they aren't able to split many of the options based on variations in cook time and several other reasons they are happy to explain. The hubby had the Fat Queen, which was loaded with seasoned meats. It looked fab and he said it was wonderful! Is it weird that I've been stalking this place since the first time I passed it on my way to Fredericksburg? Maybe it's the name. Maybe it's the cute red barnyard feel and the fact that there is a little coffee shop called "Pie e Tea" on the premesis. Whatever the case, I just knew that I had to have it. Three trips to Fredericksburg later, my husband and I finally made it! We were a bit strapped for time on our way back to Houston that day, so all we had was a margarita pizza (plus garlic)...but we needed nothing more. It was one of the beeeeest pizzas I had ever had...crust thin though doughy, sauce savory with a bit of a kick, and just enough yummy fresh mozzarella. We split a pizza, but I probably could have done one on my own, had I allowed myself the opportunity and the excess calories. Otherwise, the place was great and the staff friendly. They allowed us to bring our dog in on the back patio and brought her some water. Service was efficient and we were in and out quickly! I've got my eye on this place. I've given this place several tries and it's never not been a huge hassle: either closed, inadequate parking, huge lines, long wait for food, cold pizza, no seating, overrun by loose toddlers, etc. I like pizza, but Pieous is not a dining experience worth inconveniencing yourself over, and it *will* be and inconvenience. Personally this is some of the best pizza I have ever had.the crust is doughy if that makes sense, but it makes the pizza crust good.The toppings, sauce,and cheese are not overused or underused,which makes the pizza perfectly made. The salad was perfect but what made it stand out was the Cesar dressing which tasted like a Italian dressing but it was sweet at this same time.and for dessert since they were out of the cinnamon rolls we got 2 giant chocolate chip cookies and they were awesome.and finally pricing was rightfully priced for food quality. Oh and if you were wondering about the brand of drinks they have there they don't have Pepsi it coke but the cola they have there has real sugar. Starving coming back from a volleyball tournament and just looking for something that was open at 3 PM on a Saturday. Drove by this place and decided to stop. The interior and outside space are beautiful. Like the chalkboards inside with illustrations and quotes. The menu is large but not unwieldy. We got the sampler plate and the meat plate, adding juicy pastrami. The artichoke hearts were a little bland but adding the olive tapenade brought the needed salt and brightened it. The chickpeas would have been better fried rather than roasted, but still tasty. The eggplant was the highlight of both dishes - smoky, warm, bright, unctuous ... Just crazy good. The arugula adds a little pepper to the whole platter and the super-thin crispy bread was perfect. The pastrami is a star, better than most brisket I've had this year. The calabrese and soprasetta were very good, but the prosciutto was phenomenal. I usually skip it most places, but their 600-day version above and beyond - it's sweet and nutty and just about melt in your mouth. The pizza looked great so we ordered one. The meat pie is excellent. Their mozz is creamy, stretchy, deliciousness. The crust is really unique, almost like leavened lavash bread - super light, slightly chewy. The tomato sauce wasn't a standout on its own but a great combination. Good, but smaller draft beer selection. Small but surprising wine selection. I ended up just getting iced tea and I have to say it was actually a standout in a damn good meal. I can't say enough good things about Pieous. I really don't know where to start. The food is amazing. We had the meat lovers pizza (not sure if it's actually called that, but has a lot of meat on it) and the Brussels and Jam. SO GOOD. We got samples of the pastrami and samples of ice cream and they were both great as well. The pastrami was the best I've ever had--I don't even really care for pastrami that much usually and I could have eaten this as my entire meal. And not much beats ice cream on a hot Austin day, except free ice cream. The pizzas are ready incredibly fast--they apparently cook in 90 seconds. Oh yeah, and the sourdough bread is baked fresh there--we got some of that with the pastrami sample--it was remarkable as well. The decor is absolutely adorable. The walls are painted with chalkboard paint and covered in really cute artwork and sayings. There is also plenty of chalk where you can write and draw things yourself. There's an outdoor dining patio where I'm sure it would be nice to sit when it's not so hot. The owners were beyond nice. I have a severe allergy of gluten (DH Celiac Disease). We went 49 minutes out of our way to eat here, only to be told today (after I called on friday) that they do not have gluten free crust and that "I shouldn't eat here." Please @A Manager at Pieous, learn and train your employees about what a food allergy is. Most of the time, it is a disease, where people (like me) who will get very sick if they eat what they are allergic to.
