Long over date night - Pier 98 was recommended by friend - and we can't wait to be back! Even tho I'm still full and have fridge full of leftovers, still looking forward to our next visit!! This will be our only place in H'BURG to eat dinner! Locally owned and operated makes it even more worth supporting! We had crab stuffed ribeye, ahi tuna nachos, boom boom shrimp and lots more ... we're admittedly steak snobs - but this may be the best EVER!!! The nachos and shrimp would make you slap yo mama! This is a fun local eatery... I like the live music on Friday nights. Try the alligator and jalapeño appetizers. I think it's a must have in Mississippi. We also like to bring our stainless steel Pier 98 flasks For $6 draft refills. Order the catch of the day and the crab Mac and cheese. Terrible experience. My wife and I went to Pier 98 tonight because we've been hearing how terrific their steaks are. I was shocked by the prices and I'm not paying $49 for a 16 oz ribeye. My wife ate the steak and said it was good. I had the roast beef po-boy, which was terrible. I didn't finish it. The check arrives and it's $116.68, as we'd had an appetizer and drinks, but then I notice a "$4.48 non cash adjustment". So they charged me $4.48 just to swipe my card, which only costs them about .30¢ in transaction fees...another $4.00+ in profit for them. I'll never return to this restaurant again. read more

Reminds me of back home in Louisiana. Great selection of food. Everything we ordered was perfectly cooked. Live music--LOVED. Crawfish were great for a restaurant. Don't expect spicy but rather seasoned flavor which is great to appeal to a larger crowd. I like mine extra spicy but these had a nice garlic savory flavor. Good assortment of oysters. Very fresh tasting! Filet Mignon to rival Zack Garvin's. My only slight pick was we waited a bit to be seated with open tables and people walking by us. Food is usually good but quality, price and business practices are getting out of hand. They nickel and dime you to death for to go orders and don't even provide cutlery.+$1 charge if your meal is "fried" instead of broiled (the menu says either or). "Premium" sides are +$1 - since when is lettuce and potatoes premium sides?! +$1 if your order is to go. Okay...then they add tax which is fine. Then on top of fees and taxes they add 20% gratuity for all to go orders! Plus an additional fee if paying with a debit card. The last time I ordered a shrimp meal, a few of the shrimp were sour ~ and their website menu says $16 but they charged me $21. Final bill was over $30 for one shrimp meal. read more

This place has been open for a few years, but I've not made it over until today. That was my first mistake, I should have been here the day they opened. We had the esplanade egg rolls I believe is what they were called and the things pictured. Y'all don't skip this. Best burger in Hattiesburg by a long shot in my opinion. The atmosphere is fun and casual but still nice enough to come for a special event. The bathrooms are spotless(which is huge). Don't miss what they turned into bar stools! This used to be one of my favorite local places but has gone downhill and I won't go back. I recently ordered a $56 filet mignon cooked medium. What they brought me more closely resembled a charcoal briquette than a steak. 70% of it was very well done, and the other 30% was medium rare. Usually I would've sent it back for correction after I cut into it, but the fact they even served it to me charred black told me they found this acceptable. read more

Absolutely love this place. Food is great. The steaks are the best in town and there are many places in town that claim to have the best steaks. The seafood is delicious as well the shrimp tacos are super yummy The Royal Reds are cooked to perfection. Two for one beers on Tuesdays and Thursdays is nice! Definitely worth the visit! read more

OMG!! Tonight's meal was a complete disaster and unfortunately our server was thrown under the bus by the kitchen staff and the owners, as well as the restaurant being understaffed. If you're understaffed, perhaps you should limit the patrons...just a thought! If your menu shows the prices you should take a picture for evidence. Our menu showed the prices of the steaks. Unfortunately when we received the bill, the prices we were charged were about $20 more than what we saw on the menu. I went to retrieve a menu as evidence and that menu and others had a piece of paper over the prices that said "market prices." The menu we ordered from did not have that market price statement. How were we to know any different? So naturally we thought we were going to be paying the prices we saw. That is just one example. Here's another, my sister ordered a very well done steak and I ordered a different type of steak to be prepared medium. She received her steak nearly raw and mine was well done. I finally got my steak just before we left. Mind you as the server brought my steak she commented that we would not be charged for it. The side salad, a Caesar, I ordered came with croutons even though I asked that there be no croutons (my husband's salad had no croutons), then I take a bite. Yowzers! Was I eating a salad at the beach? There was grit all in my mouth from the salad. I asked my husband to take a bite and he agreed. It was a very fine grit all in your teeth...grinding away. YUCK! We alerted the server and were told by a manager (?) that they infused a certain cheese into their homemade Caesar dressing and that it's supposed to be that way. What? What cheese is gritty like sand and doesn't dissolve? My husband ordered another beverage, it never got to him and my niece and her husband ordered a bread pudding dessert. It never made it to them. Now comes time for the bill. This dining experience at Pier 98 in Hattiesburg was very regrettable! We will NOT be returning to this establishment!! If you do go to this restaurant and don't care what you pay for anything, they do have great tasting, tender filet mignons. You just need to get it prepared to your liking and it would be nice to eat it along with those you are dining. We've been several times in the last year. Food is average to good. Service is sometimes slow. If you ask for water you're brought a bottled water, for a charge. I told the server I just wanted water and not bottled water. She said their fountain was broken. I said water from the tap is fine, she said they couldn't do that. Obviously they can but choose not to do so. The ramekin for the salad dressing was less than half full. I asked for more dressing and was told their is a charge for additional dressing. I told her if she filled up the ramekin with the dressing I wouldn't need more. There are other examples of The nickel and dime thing they do. That's a real turn off. Last night we were seated in the room where the guitarist played. He was incredibly loud, I couldn't hear my dinner companions even when they shouted. Recently found this little jewl when I was dispatched to a plumbing problem in the kitchen. From working in many commercial kitchens I don't usually eat there afterwards however, the kitchen staff treated this place like it was their own. Super clean. As our job went on the lunch hour was approaching and the delicious smells were driving me nuts so we decided to eat here after our job. Hands down the best place for true flavorful food outside of nola. I'm not always in this area but when I am I'll certainly be stopping by for more gumbo and a friendly atmosphere. They had advertised 50 cent wings online, which the waitress argued was not the case. After convincing her to check, we came to find out the wings were half off and not 50 cents. When we called, we found out that they only had one steak in the kitchen, which was much more expensive than noted on their online menu, so we couldn't order that. So we decided on some other menu items. They also said that they did not have any of the crawfish mac and cheese listed on their online menu. This is for the new place they are in. Ate here today and something has failed from when they moved from across the street. Limp, wilted lettuce with wrong salad dressing, fried fish with hardly any batter, 2 hush puppies that looked like they came out of a thimble, and ordered boiled shrimp and was served fried. Very disappointed in our first experience here. Our appetizer of fried green tomatoes was $10 for 3 tomato slices and one small one. The tomato's were severely undercooked. They were basically raw green tomatoes with a slight breading on them and covered with tamales which in itself is a strange combination. The tamales and tomatoes were covered in a crawfish sauce and to be honest the sauce and tamales were delicious. I ordered gumbo which I never got. Our entrees were pretty good flavors were good and not much to complain about with them other than portion on the catfish plates. The major issue was the price the steaks were majorly outrageous on prices. Everything here was massively over priced. My reason for the horrid review is when you go to a place and pay $65+ for two you want near close to perfection. The restaurant was dark and very drab. The band was shut off in another room where all you could hear from them was the bass guitar and very light voices.
