***Stephen's Lounge *** Was excited to see a local band play this afternoon and quite disappointed with the staff. Bartender has been unpleasant to several customers. Not attending to "non-regulars" in a timely fashion almost to the point of ignoring them. Morning crew for breakfast are wonderful. If the bartender can't handle the crowd, she shouldn't be behind the bar. Band was excellent. Would come see the band again any day, they were amazing, but would forgo having a beverage if said bartender was working. read more

They have young staff working there, which is great- but they're unfriendly. As someone who's worked in the restaurant business at all types of places (from an average seafood place in Plymouth to a high end catering job in a rich part of the cape) - I know how important it is to at least smile and ask how people are doing when they sit down. We literally seemed to inconvenience the people working there. The wait time was longer than expected, and like other people mentioned, it just isn't clean there. They certainly don't run a vacuum through there daily...food was ok-- but wouldn't rush back. read more

The only decent thing we were served was toast & iced coffee. I ordered Irish Eggs Benedict with "homemade hash". There was no way this has was homemade hash...looked like it was yesterday's mashed potatoes and canned corned beef. When we asked the waitress she actually argued with us & didn't offer an alternative. The eggs were poached properly so I'll give them that. The home fries were cooked in some type of oil giving them an off flavor. The bacon was definitely cooked in a large batch and reheated - wiggly & oily & not crispy. My 14 month olds scrambled egg was so gross he refused to eat it - I tried it & it had that same cooking oil taste and no seasoning. read more

Nope met here for a meeting, so not my choice number one, two I had to wait for the women I was meeting with to show up for at least 15 min, do you thing the rude waitress would ask if I wanted a drink No she didn't! So when the women showed up she magically appeared and said drinks! Mind you I already ordered because someone else ask me! So now I'm thinking this women was a regular, but no she wasn't! This place was open only for breakfast/brunch and close to where we were staying. I passed by the place twice and it looked enticing; local folks sitting inside, chatting, laughing and just being slow, a bit (or may be a lot) unusual for eastern part of the U.S. where Dunkin culture has taken over. That's when I decided to go in for breakfast. Waitress asked me to sit anywhere I like. I asked for a coffee and it was freshly brewed. I was able to hear conversations across a few tables, and I noticed everyone here sounded like Bernie Sanders and I loved hearing that even though I didn't get much. I ordered Portuguese Egg Benedict, which was very delicious. Egg was perfectly done and sauce was slightly on the sweet side. I was hoping for some spicy kick since Portuguese are known for hot/spicy/complex flavors but it wasn't as such. Overall, I loved the experience and I highly recommend if anyone want to experience what locals eat for brunch around here. Food was GREAT! -exactly what I was craving. The prices were very reasonable. The service was fast, but not once did someone come to check on us (and I could have used a refill on my water). There are few places in the world to have a better breakfast than here. The prices are outstanding and there are many parts of your breakfast that you can only get here in Onset. Coffee is good too, largely because of just classic simple brewing. Everything here dates from a bit back and that's what makes it just perfect inside. read more

I really wish I could give this another shot. However, with a pandemic, they were very relaxed and some tables were not six feet apart. The server was also loud and complaining about another customer who was unhappy about their set up. I'm not a "local" and she seemed much more attentive to others. This has always been a family favorite of mine, and I had always gone somewhat reluctantly because the food was very average basic diner food. However, I must say it has been steadily improving. They seem to have a new chef within the past 5 years or so and are making an effort to modernize. It is definitely worth trying, especially with somewhat limited options around, however expect the basic diner food menu maybe with a hint of added quality. First off the waitress came to our table 3 times. One for our drink orders. Second for food orders and the only other time to drop of the food. Had to flag someone else down to bring our check. They also put bacon in their home fries without it being anywhere on the menu. As a vegetarian having to find this out while I was eating was very upsetting not to mention some people don't eat pig for religious reasons. When I told the waitress that it should say something on the menu if they're going to put meat in their home fries all she said was that I should have told her I was vegetarian first. Very disappointing experience. They will never have my service again read more

This is exactly where you want to have breakfast. As soon as we arrived, they graciously put together multiple tables for us so 9 of is could sit together. It was a great table with a nice view of the goings on outside. Our waitress was friendly and helpful. The service was quick and the food was great. I had the stereotypical eggs and bacon breakfast and enjoyed it. There is nothing fancy or elaborate about this place but that's what I like about it. Good breakfast at a super cheap price. Holy crap. Literally. We stood and waited for several minutes before any staff greeted us. In that time we were able to observe the outdated, dirty restaurant, half of which was in the dark. We should have left. It was nearly impossible to tell who worked there except for the one waitress wearing an apron. We were sat in the dark section by someone I believe was the owner. He brought us coffee, and then we waited for about ten minutes to be greeted by our waitress. It then took 40 minutes to get our food. We both ordered the biscuits and gravy along with one side of sausage and one side of corned beef hash. First of all, the excessive amount of gravy overwhelmed the plate. There was more gravy than everything else combined. The corned beef hash was a hard, burned hockey puck that clinked on the plate, and was completely inedible. The sausage was also badly burned on one side. The scrambled eggs were wet and runny. The only good thing about this place was the coffee. To waitress' credit she did immediately remove the burned items from our bill. On our next visit to the area, we will be sure to stay away from this restaurant. read more

Half the time, they're perfectly cooked, and half the time they're so underdone you can taste crunchy onions when you bite them. This by far is one of the best Restaurants in the area for Breakfast...The homefries are real, tasty potatoes that have a delicious crunch once they are in your salivating mouth. I love the Pier View Restaurant for a classic diner type breakfast. The place is not very visibly appealing but don't be put off, it's worth the stop. Family owned and run, they do a nice job. They have a good assortment of omelettes, biscuits and gravy, and other breakfast staples. Service is usually pretty good although it can get a bit hectic on weekends. The Pier View is an outstanding place for breakfast. Like others, it took me a couple of years to venture into it, as the outside doesn't give a very inviting feel.....but, once inside, you're in for a treat. The food is very good, the service excellent, and the friendly bantering between the owner, waitresses and cook let you know that this is a family run operation. After a couple of visits, people greet you like family, and we have attended many worthwhile benefits sponsored by the very generous owner, Steve. It's a very comfortable spot with very good breakfast food and very good people running it. There is a lounge that may attract a different type of crowd at night, but it has no impact on the restaurant during the day - and I have to say I'm very disheartened by the racist remarks made by one poster. I was taken here for the first time by my father, as it is across from the pier in Onset and we were fishing/crabbing that day. I had seen this place before, but it's one of those places you where you can't tell anything about what's going on inside just to see it from the outside. We went in and every table was full, took our seats at the bar seating and ordered up. The woman behind the grill/counter took our order and had the personality of a dead moth, with no eye contact. I asked if they served grits there and she said no.. A breakfast place that doesn't serve grits? That alone warrants star removal. Sure it's New England and not the south but get with the program! She served up our orders, I got fried eggs, toast and hash browns. The hash browns were a little soft/soggy but not bad. My dad joked "This is the first good meal I've had since I got out of prison!" Still no kind of response elicited from the woman. Well maybe she was having a bad day, who knows. Anyhoo.. The food was decent, the location is decent, and breakfast is breakfast. Went for breakfast on a weekend while visiting the area. The help are very friendly and efficient. We ordered the veggie Benedict and veggie omelet. They were both delicious and only out shined by their home fries! They were small chunks of skin on potatoes sautéed with onions and small pieces of yummy linguisa. I left the Onset area in 1981. Since then I have returned at least once a year. When I wake up in the morning I can not wait to go to the Pier View for breakfast. So GOOD........better than going to Grandma's house. The menu has a large variety and the coffee keeps flowing. Regarding the lounge, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, however I am confused as to the review written by Mike R. He claims to have felt unwelcomed by the CV community at the bar one saturday night. He states that he was the only casper in the joint, but yet he embraces the CV community. He also throws in the fact that his niece is Cape Verdean. Perhaps he should bring her with him next time. How are we ever going to unite as a people when we can not enjoy the atmosphere without scrutinizing the customers. Lastly, their are times when we make ourselves uncomfortable. Steven's Lounge is the nicest little bar that Onset has ever had. read more
