The coziness of this place is unreal! The restaurant is set inside of a house, which gives it a super cool, home-y vibe. Not only is the setting home-y, but the staff is all very kind and quick to greet guests. The good old home feel doesn't stop with the setting or service, but it carries through to the food as well. The food comes out looking like a true, delicious, home-cooked meal with the flavor to back it up! For an appetizer I ordered the Charlie's Chowder, which is the best chowder I've ever had, in New England or otherwise. It comes packed with scallops, lobster, and cod, and is absolutely to die for. For my main course, I ordered the Lemon Caper Cod, which was also wonderful. The piece of cod is huge, and is served with a bed of rice, seasonal veggies (mine were carrots) and, of course, capers. The fish was tender and cooked to perfection and, while I'm not typically a huge carrot fan, the steamed carrots they made were sweet and tasty! I wasn't starving, so I ordered what SEEMED to be lighter; Sea and Sand, which consists of a stuffed quahog and a cup of Charlie's Chowder. Just a quahog and a cup of chowder! I made a reservation for lunch for five women. Everyone was very pleased with the ambiance and the service. The menu was limited, but the sandwiches were excellent. I ordered the swordfish sandwich which was on Special with mango salsa. The place was not overcrowded, despite the fact that it was tourist season. Prices were the same as what you would find downtown. Alcohol was available, but we did not order any. I liked it so much that I went back a week later and found pretty much the same experience. It's a bit of a misnomer, since it comes on a brioche bun and not a typical roll, which means some lobstee pieces end up falling out, but the taste is perfect. No price is listed ("market price"), and it's not cheap (was $36 when I got it), but it was ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT. The lobster tasted SO FRESH and succulent! Big, chunky pieces of meat (nothing scrappy) and it tasted infused with butter (but not drenched/greasy). It was amazing. The slaw that came with it was really good too! It was a classy restaurant slaw (lightly dressed and vinegary, not mayonaisey). The restaurant is very cute; a converted classic Victorian house with little dining spaces in different rooms. Everything was wonderful! We made same day reservations and they were able to accommodate a group of 6 plus an infant. Most of us ordered a stuffed quahog or chowder and both were fabulous. The filet with lobster was a huge portion and delicious! The shrimp and lobster in a tarragon sherry sauce was equally good as were the salads, fig pizza, and lobster ravioli. The drinks were also very good - their take on a cosmo and a fruity gin concoction. Our server was friendly, attentive, and informative. My wife and I were talking the other day about some of the best seafood we've had in Massachusetts. We keep talking about the seafood chowder we had at the Stomping Grounds. It was literally the best chowder in New England, hands down. We've had chowder from P town to Portland Maine, this was the best for sure. We are on Cape Cod for a family trip, two families with a couple of significant others and a total of 11 people. Our plan was to go to The Lobster Trap but the wait was 1 1/2 hours. One family of four decided to wait it out but we were hungry and found Stomping Grounds Grille on Yelp instead. Wow, are we glad we came to this hidden gem! The restaurant is the first floor of a renovated house. The decor was cozy, eclectic and vintage with stained glass lamps, framed album covers from the 60-80's on the walls and a record player in the smaller dining room. This was totally our family's vibe as we are from Northern California and it reminded us of something you would find in San Francisco (minus the house part). The waitress was friendly and helpful when we asked for suggestions and the food was amazing! I could've eaten the flatbread as a meal. It had fig jam, scallops, and Gruyère cheese, a magical combination. The Spuds Mackenzie was roasted potato wedges served with a Gorgonzola bacon and walnut dip. It was so delicious we begged for a little extra to put on other parts of our dinner. My daughter and son had the dinner portion of the lobster raviolis and they said the appetizer size would've been enough. It came with big chunks of lobster on top. My other son got the cold lobster roll which was delicious and came with a bag of Cape Cod chips and cole slaw. My husband got the pulled pork sandwich, another great choice, my daughter's boyfriend got the seafood chowder and I got a half salad with a crab cake. Everything was top notch and I give 5 stars to the chef, the vibe and service. I'm glad we skipped the crowds so we could linger after dinner for great conversation with our drinks. We ordered their chowder and their Pastrami Special & Lobster Roll both were very good and could only eat half my sandwich along with an IPA of course. What a hidden gem! We found this place by accident and stopped in for lunch. It was wonderful. We didn't really feel like a sandwich so we just split a few appetizers and had a salad.
