As a vegetarian, the menu did not offer too many options. (Actually, there was only one entrée I could eat.) The reason I gave them 5 stars is because the one thing I could (and did) order was the most amazing thing I have ever had the pleasure of eating at any restaurant in La Crosse, hands down. Another reason I give them 5 stars is because I emailed the chef on the Piggy's Facebook page before going, and he said that he would be more than happy to create something special if I called ahead. While I did not choose to do so, I was pleased that he was so accomodating. The Vegetarian Creation, which is what I ordered, was a masterpiece, and the polenta croutons were a revelation. Another great thing? I was told by the server that the potato soup, which came with the meal, was not made with chicken stock. Outstanding, and worth every penny. read more

This is a lunch review only... 2.5 stars! Sadly they only offer lunch during the week and the menu is very limited. Soup and salad bar or burgers or 5 sandwiches. The soup and salad bar looked very good and that was definitely what the majority of people were ordering. There was nothing very original on the salad bar, plus I wanted to try Piggys food on my first visit. I ordered the pulled pork on a pretzel bun which came with potato chips and their 'famous' dipping sauce. The pulled pork was tender but lacked seasoning. There was very little Bbq sauce on it and no extra was provided. It needed more!! The pretzel bun was delicious and very fresh, a surprising match with the pulled pork. The chips were ok, rather greasy. As for that sauce - it tasted like thousand island dressing, nothing special at all. It did not seem like something to dip my chips in ;( My MIL ordered the chicken salad sandwich which she said was very good. She hardly ate the chips and sauce for the same reason. Was very disappointed in their signature entree, which are BBQ ribs. Tough as shoe leather and I noticed a person two tables over me who was experiencing the same fate as myself. This place used to have outstanding lunches years ago--the absolute best but I will never go back. Have never had this problem with the Freighthouse. I had the smoked combo which consisted of ribs, pulled pork, and a pork chop. It was all very sub par. It was supposed to be smoked but it all tasted like it was made in the oven not a smoker. The BBQ sauce was overly sweet like the cheap grocery store sauces. For BBQ Famous Dave's is far better for a third of the price. This is was one of the worst meals I can remember having. I hear its a staple in La Crosse which explains why they feel comfortable serving overpriced with no pride whatsoever. And on top of it, the service was awful! read more

I spent a few days in La Crosse with my husband. He had to work. We took the train in, and didn't have a rental car, and Piggy's was the closest place to us. I would walk over and pick up dinner for us. The burgers are excellent. Plus, being in Wisconsin, the cheese on them was phenominal. However I felt incredibly uncomfortable in there. The first time we went, we actually ate in, and that was perfectly fine. The waitress was totally nice. The second time I called in our meal. When I walked over, the hostess was rude and abrupt to me. The person that brought the meal shoved it in my hands like she was doing me a favor. When I got back to the hotel, the bun was missing on my burger. Not cool Piggy's. read more

Our group of 5 really enjoyed this place. Upscale but not snobby and in fact quite cozy and comfortable. The service was excellent and the owner who may have been the head chef as well was seen several times walking around the seating area greeting the guests and asking them how everything was. The have really good homemade soups and nice menu mix of steaks, seafood and BBQ which is their in house specialty. The ribs with raspberry chipotle bbq sauce were very unique but perfectly done. I had some small steak and sword fish combo which was also very good. They have a big list on specialty hot and cold drinks plus a nice dessert selection. Prices were reasonable. Had the cheese curd for an appetizer followed with a house salad and both of these were fine. Ordered a 10oz prime rib med rare and have to say I was very disappointed. Prime rib didn't have much taste an au jou was like dipping in a brown gravy. I was very impressed with my visit. I had met the owners at my business and was impressed with their passion and made a promise to visit them next time I passed through the area. A year or so later we stopped in on a Saturday at 6pm during October Fest. The Restaurant was crowded and on top of that they were hosting a wedding. I did not have high expectations at this point but they handled the crowds expertly. Our food was terrific and the service was outstanding. Being that busy so much could have gone wrong but they did terrific. I can't wait for my next opportunity to visit again. read more

We have been stopping in LaCross the last 10 years just to eat here. We usually ate in the dining room but this year went to the lounge. Same menu is available after 5 pm. Horrible. From the moment we walked until we walked out. Friday evening there is Comedy in the Blue's lounge, where we prefer to eat, so it makes for absolute chaos trying to get a seat. They said we could only eat upstairs as seating was done in the lounge. Comedy starts at 9 and we were told that at 7:10 pm. So over we go to the other desk and were told the upstairs was full and table would be ready near 7:30 pm. We could go sit in the bar and have a drink, well why couldn't we just go sit at the bar and eat? Hmmmm??? At 7:50 I finally went to the desk and asked and they said they were ready for us. We were seated in a tiny booth. Terrible design. The waitress explained the seasonal soup as Roasted Butternut squash with a honey roasted almonds....it was actually a cream based something. It had no flavor what so ever. Especially not Squash. I tried a new dish, The seafood Thermidor, with shrimp, scallops and Lobster with a brandy sauce over bucatini noodles. I am not a noodle connoisseur, but man were they over cooked. The whole dish was fishy because the lobster from the lobster claw was nasty. Rubbery claw meat. The shrimp and scallops were fine, not great. Kate's on State does excellent seafood dishes with a great rich cream sauce. This was a flavorless cream sauce. if you could get beyond the fishy smell. My husband ordered the Prime rib, which I usually enjoy for it's super light smoke flavor. Tonight it was way over smoked and came out STONE COLD. My husband won't complain, so he ate half and suffered through it. When I shared this with the waitress she did not ask if we wanted a new piece or something different, she just said I'll tell the chef. When I told her the lobster was fishy no comment. She offered us desert to make up for the bad food. Really? Why would I want more bad food on top of the bad food I just ate. I said no thank you, just take a few bucks off the bill. They did. A whooping 10% off the bill. So, $5.76 off. Yes, 10%. Who takes 10% off a bill. How about 50% off his cold prime rib? As I was leaving I used the lady's room upstairs, it was now 9 pm. NO ONE turned the heat on and there is a huge window letting the cold air in. It was a high of 29 degrees today! How is it, I was the first one from a busy restaurant to mention there is no heat in the bathroom! Well, my back end is now stuck there, frozen to the seat! About every 4 visits the food is terrible. So, it will be a long time before we go here again. read more

Stayed at the Courtyard and came here on a suggestion from the front desk clerk. We ate in the Blues Lounge area. Great atmosphere, delicious food -- especially the Pulled Chicken sandwich. Most of the meals come with chips accompanied by some type of vinegar-y Thousand Island dipping sauce...very good. As far as drinks go, the Grape Popsicle martini is great if you want something easy and sweet. The White Russians are pretty tiny; also had to ask the bartender to add vodka because we couldn't detect any. read more

I had string beans only. I Asked for refill on coffee, they said they ran out. Hey, I can't make this stuff-up. The lounge has been our go to place when we wanted an excellent meal AND bring the kids. We could order off the main menu and they had a great kids menu all in an atmosphere for the whole family. Our kids loved the steaks and it set this place apart, but now they have changed the kids menu and removed the steaks, it's just another kids menu. Although they still include strawberries and whipped cream, our kids no longer request Piggy's. Hopefully they'll consider bringing back the kids steak option otherwise we'll end up at some chain restaurant where they can get their steaks at an affordable price. read more

Piggy's food is amazing! Wether you are downstairs at the bar, or upstairs at the main dining room... you won't be disappointed! Their Caesar salad in the bar is to die for. It's one of the best I've ever had. They also have great sandwiches with French fries and a great pasta bar on Thursday nights. Their breadsticks are also delicious! Anything from the main restaurant is well worth it as well. Their steaks are mouthwatering just writing this review. I honestly can't say enough nice things about this establishment. Potentially the worst restaurant experience I have ever had. Don't get me wrong, food was great. It was about the slowness of service, the missteps in service, and the general manager Kelly. Yes, we had a large group (24), but our group leader had 8 documented email conversations about the group size, times, and separate checks. All for nothing. My complaints start with the service. Two servers for a group of 24 was not enough. The whole ordeal was 3+ hours long. I understand them trying to space out the meal, but it was ridiculous. Finally had to ask them to just take the order. One table never received any bread prior to salads showing up 1.25 hours into us sitting down. Drinks were slow to arrive. People who ordered baked potatoes got them after 1/2 to 3/4 of their protein was already gone. Can't say anything bad about the food as it was delicious and well prepared. The main complaint in this review deals with Kelly, the General Manager. When it came time for the bills to be separated the servers had all the children raise their hands to match with the parents. These are 23 year old kids mind you. Felt like a kindergarten class, but the server still could not get it together. It took 35 minutes for them to produce any bills, another 10 minutes to fix incorrect bills, and to top it off half the bills were still wrong after being in the establishment for 3+ hours. Kelly, the GM, stepped in finally and was totally stand offish from the get go. No solutions, just excuses. While she tried sticking up for her servers by sating it wasn't their fault, she had no solutions or compromises for the 24 people standing in her restaurant after 3 hours. At one point, she proceeded to tell us "Wow" in a very bitchy response for our questions as to what was taking so long. Very unprofessional. While I feel bad for not tipping the wait staff for the work they did, the General Manager completed ruined what was a great day for our group. She should be the one giving up her salary for the tip. Again, food was great but the professionalism of upper management is something to be desired. read more

Three words to describe the formal dining area at Piggy's: upscale, casual, comfortable. On our evening at Piggy's for dinner, we dressed somewhat formal: I wore a cocktail dress and pressed shirt/stylish jeans for the boy. The other patrons were not overly dressed, but everyone did look nice. I would suggest dressing up, rather than dressing down, for this venue. Piggy's also offered a good selection on the menus; that is, both the wine menu and the dinner menu. For an appetizer, we had the crab cakes. Very, very good. They were on the smallish side, but what they lacked in stature they made up for in taste. They were piping hot, very fresh, and full of crabbiness! No complaints about too much breading here! For dinner, I chose the bacon wrapped shrimp and filet, the restaurant's idea of surf and turf. I asked for the filet rare, and the restaurant complied perfectly. The steak was excellent, served with a very rich bearnaise. Presentation was better than average. Overall, I would say this restaurant is great if you are looking for a place to go for a nice dinner. It doesn't have the flair of a five star restaurant; the atmosphere is more "upscale supper club". Great dinner experience. read more

This is a very nice place located right off the main drag of downtown La Crosse. I usually go here for the lunch special. Soup and Salad bar for under $10. Always make reservations. I have never been their when it isn't full. They have a great waitstaff who are very prompt with refills and check if you need anything often. read more

We visited Piggy's with six people for my wife's b-day. We made reservations and were seated quickly upon arrival. Waitress was very friendly and prompt with drinks. The problem was all in the kitchen, my mother ordered prime-rib and asked for it medium well. He first one was between medium rare to medium so she sent it back, the sent a new cut of off the roast that was between rare and medium rare so we sent it back again. Finally they just grilled the prime rib to get it done to her liking, there are other methods but at least it was done to her liking and she was somewhat happy. If the cook did not have any roasts left done to medium well they should have just said so so that's why they get the sub-par review. Was probably just an off night for them, all the remaining food was cooked correctly and would have given it 3-4 stars without that incident. read more

My wife and I were in LaCrosse for a wedding over the weekend. Piggy's was recommended to us by a coworker of my wife. We made a reservation for Friday night. When we arrived, we were seated immediately and welcomed by our server. He recommended cocktails that were excellent. I had the duck breasts and my wife had the smoked prime rib. Both were prepared perfectly. I finished the meal with dessert. Creme Brûlée. We will definitely return the next time we are in the area. We ate at Piggy's tonight and I will say that the food was very good. I had the duck breast and my husband had the combo of Piggy's famous smoked meats. However the service was incredibly slow and it was very warm in the restaurant. We ate upstairs, the downstairs was full. Maybe service downstairs is quicker. It was almost 2 hours for dinner and then we had to ask to get our check at the end, eventhough we set our credit card out on the table. We ate at the lounge and it was pretty good - the best we've had in la crosse so far. We were expecting a dive from the name but it's quite nice and more refined than we were expecting. The cheese curds were good and not too heavy. The ribs got a thumbs up. The short ribs were also good but seemed like they should be served over noodles or mashed pos. The waiters offered the upstairs with a more classy ambience that offered a more expensive menu and a downstairs which had a more causal feel. Seeing it was our last time in Wisconsin we choose to go upstairs. Our waiter was very knowledgable about the menu and was very open about his personal favorites which was the ny strip steak. I ordered the prime rib. The plate came with mashed potatoes and broccoli. The plate was fairly mediocre. I was expecting the food to be better from a place with a great environment and a 35 dollar plate. I guess you pay for the classy environment and comfort.
