    The Sampler Platter
    Kim M.

Barbecue, planes, and leftovers? Sign me the hell up. We split the BBQ Sampler, and let me just say--we came hungry and still went home with a to-go box like proud carnivores. I usually pledge allegiance to pulled pork, but the brisket absolutely stole the show. That smoke ring wasn't just for looks--it had flavor that practically gave me a hug and whispered, "You're welcome." The coleslaw? 10/10. Crisp, cool, tangy--none of that sad, soggy cabbage nonsense. It was the perfect crunch-to-sauce ratio and honestly deserves its own trophy. Baked beans were good, but a little on the sweet side for me. That's not a complaint, just a personal "I like my beans like I like my coffee--slightly bitter and ready to fight." Now let's talk location. Right on the airstrip, which was such a cool bonus. We got to watch two planes take off mid-lunch like it was the most casual airshow ever. I can't wait to bring my grandson--BBQ and airplanes? That's a core memory waiting to happen. Whether you're a BBQ diehard or just in it for the meat coma and a view, Pik N Pig is absolutely worth the trip.

We drove to Carthage to check out this restaurant and little runway for planes. The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating and is decked out with bbq and air memorabilia. We had two toddlers so we took the food to go. I ordered at the cash window (which looks like it used to be a former post office with heavy wooden slots for letters) and the server was so helpful. Since we had never dined there before, I ordered a chicken platter with green beans and potato salad, bbq with 2 other sides and the fried chicken sandwich. Out of those, the fried chicken sandwich was actually my favorite! This is a neat place to have authentic bbq and take in the aircraft ambience. Prices are decent at about $14 a plate. Southern hospitality and good food awaits!

This place was recommended by several people at my work, I took their advice and came here on a Sunday. Rightly it was packed since everyone was getting out of church, we waited for about 25-30 minutes to be seated which wasn't too bad for being a Sunday. We get seated and the waitress suggested us the fried pickles, we got them and after trying them we personally weren't great fans of them, in my own opinion they were too salty for my liking but the liquidity ranch was somewhat decent. I got the pulled pork plate with coleslaw and baked beans, my partner got the smoked chicken with coleslaw and a baked potato all the way. The pulled pork had no flavor whatsoever, it was fresh but very flavorless unfortunately, the coleslaw tasted bland and the baked beans tasted like they came from a can. The smoked chicken tasted flavorless as well with all the other sides, we asked to switch out the coleslaw and got some green beans and potato salad, the potato salad was kinda sweet but still had no flavor and the green beans tasted like they came from a can. In my OWN personal experience I didn't like the food only because everything was very "Plain Jane" nothing really screamed "Great Bbq". We personally don't see ourselves coming here ever again just because we didn't enjoy anything.

This place is a little gem. The food was wonderful, best brisket I ever had. We saw about 20 planes come in and even a helicopter. Staff was super friendly and accommodating. A great little day trip for lunch

    Pulled Pork Amazing

So cute, we sat outside. I had pulled pork which was amazing and moist. My husband had brisket and he even asked the waitress how the brisket was and she said it was wonderful and SHE LIED. It was thin, flavorless, like something a soldier would take out of a can to eat on the field during battle. The potato salad was lacking in flavor and I was disappointed they only had Mayo slaw and not red slaw. Okra was crisp. Hush puppies were texture wise wonderful but no flavor. The jalapeño butter helped. There were lots of older people there who prob prefer less spicy food so I get it which is why it gets 4 stars. We drove from Charlotte for the airfield ambiance. Server was very nice. Food came out within minutes. Very cute restaurant.

Great BBQ in a small place located next to an airstrip. Everything we had - pulled pork, brisket, hush puppies, Mac 'n Cheese, okra - was great! Service is friendly and upbeat. Gotta love it.

The new kitchen is up front and personal and the sign speaks for itself!

Really didn't mind the 30 minute wait for a table as there was a nice breeze. Food was delicious and service was quick once we were seated. Great atmosphere!

    Planes!

My daughter is OBSESSED with airplanes right now, so we had to check out Pik N Pig! We went on a Saturday and got there right as it opened. It was already pretty busy, but you could be seated indoors right away. We opted to wait for an outside table so we could have a view of the planes landing. While we waited we were able to see a few planes landing on the runway. About 10 minutes later, our name was called over the loud speaker and we were seated at a table with a great view of the runway! The menu had tons of options and the prices were great. I got the bbq plate with okra and mac and cheese. The table also had a few sauce options to pour on your bbq. It was a ton of food, I couldn't finish it all! They had so many amazing sounding desserts too. We split the Coca-Cola cake because it's not something you can get at most restaurants. YUM! The service was so wonderful and everyone was so kind to my daughter. When we arrived, there was only 1 plane, and when we left there were at least 12! After we ate we were able to walk up and see the planes that had landed and snap a few pictures. Such a fun day, my daughter had the best time!

    Fried pork skins

Pik N Pig has been on my bucket list for quite sometime. My son and his girlfriend called told me they were going and did I want to ride with them.Well you know that answer.Saturday morning raining to beat the band so let's go eat. Just a short 1 hour trip from our house and we pulled in to the parking lot at the end of the road. I already knew what I wanted from reading the reviews on Yelp.As we came in the folks at the front welcomed us to their establishment and seated us.Our waitress was taking our drink order while we was a sliding in our chair and asked did we want any appetizers. We jumped on the deep fried pickles with ranch dressing and my son wanted some skins. She told us as she set the basket's of appetizers down they are HOT out of the fryer. And she was correct. I chose a combination of pulled pork and BBQ chicken. With a side of slaw and baked beans. My son got the beef Brisket with backed beans and fried taters and onions. His girlfriend got a breaded fried chicken sandwich and fries. The kitchen staff was busy especially just opening at 11:00 but our waitress was as pleasant as attentive as any restaurant I have ever been in.My pulled pork was very tender and had a good smoke taste. The chick was just as tender and a great taste. My son said his brisket was on the money good.We both agreed the baked beans really complimented the meal. Her chicken sandwich had lettuce and tomato with mayo on it.After eating the appetizer's our eyes were growing bigger then our bellies but I managed to get all my food plus the delicious hush puppies with the wonderful butter that came with them all down.We should have left but our waitress had a good sale pitch that we really should try the Banana pudding. So she did tell us she would put it in a togo box and what we did not eat we could take home.So we eat a little and took the other home. The Pik N Pig lived up to everything we expected on our first visit. But def will not be our last.

It's right next to a gas station and the name...well...let's just say I had questions. Usually it's the places that are a hole in the wall and dives that are the best, though. Let me just say...after I ordered my sandwich and saw that it came with pickles, I was already a happy camper before I tried the sandwich. That was probably around four years ago. Then I took a bite...and it was unlike any sandwich I'd ever had before. It did get a little messy, but what's good food without it being a little messy? Honestly, I'm kind of a mess so it probably had something to do with that. Four years later - nothing had changed. I love going there to get a sandwich when I'm in the area. I just wish they were open a little later. My top three picks are the Birdie, Greek, and Real Italian. You can't go wrong with any of them. I've also tried the Wally, Sand, Pitching, Flip, Original, and New Yorker (sometimes a family member will let me try some of their sandwich...and vice versa). All great. There is just something about my top three though. I love that they are made fresh to order, that you can customize them, that they have an option for gluten free bread, and unsweetened or sweet tea (their unsweetened tea is delicious). I usually get an extra pickle when I remember. They have decent selections for sides as well. Nothing like a good sandwich from Wedgies and a cool drink in the summer! I do wish for more drink and side options...but that's me being super nit-picky. Get yourself a sandwich from Wedgies! You won't be sorry. Sometimes, calling ahead or placing an order ahead is the best way to go because it's usually very busy. Give a nice smile to all the kind people there as well. They do work hard!

First bite I got the hit of fresh cilantro and crunch from the peanuts, then straight into that crispy chicken--perfectly fried on the outside and still juicy inside. The sauce is sweet, tangy, a little sticky, and so good it should probably come with a warning label. The gluten-free bread held up like a champ under all that goodness, which is a small miracle considering how loaded this thing is. Fair warning: you're going to need extra napkins. It's messy, it's drippy, and it is 100% worth every saucy fingerprint. Service did take a hot minute, but we landed right at noon on a Saturday, so the place was slammed.
