We arrived at Pilgreen's at Lake Dow at about 5:05pm on Saturday February 25, 2023 to celebrate our daughter's birthday. We checked in and my son-in-law told the host we had 4 adults and needed a highchair,the host said so a table for 5, he said no a table for 4 with a highchair. We waited for 45 minutes while there were MANY OPEN tables! When my SIL inquired about the open tables the host said "It doesn't matter if there's open tables"! We waited about 15 more minutes and he seated us. Our waitress was wonderful but I can't remember her name. She got a GREAT tip though. It wasn't her fault that the baked potatoes were to cold to melt the butter or my chicken was dry. The host came over twice the first time he said " Just wondering if you have your food yet,we just got our salads and appetizers, he came over again just as we were finishing up and said something else that gave us all the feeling he was rushing us as he did NOT speak to any table next to us. This is the fist time we've been to Pilgreen's in a few years and I can promise you it will be THE LAST! Growing up in Stockbridge the original Pilgreen's and Lake Dow was always the GO TO for family celebrations until Covid and we stopped going out so much. With tip I think we spent about $170.00 tonight. And the place smells like stale cigarettes. read more

Go here quick if you like steaks that are cooked on the flat grill. The manager said they could cook the steak on the char grill by request only. It wasn't stated on the menu anywhere that that was an option. For a $23 steak, I was expecting a piece of steak, not a steak that looked like it had been fried in a frying pan. My daughter took my husband and I to celebrate our anniversary. The wait was long. They could have seated us sooner but made excuses. They had two big parties and one party all the people weren't there. The steaks were tough. Not the quality that the Lee Street location served, or even the Morrow location. Waitress charged us for three appetizers when we only ask for one. Said she had removed them but evidently not, Service was poor. I have eaten here a few times before. I have never been all that impressed with the food but always appreciated the view and atmosphere. Tonight I ordered their porterhouse steak, a baked potato, and salad with thousand island dressing. The potato was pretty good. But it was the very simple garden salad, and particularly the dressing, that was the best part of my meal. They claim they specialize in steak, and especially the t-bone, so their porterhouse should be something to rave about. It just isn't. First, it was significantly under cooked. But beyond that, while it was tender, it was just flavorless. Worse than this though is that one of my favorite things about Pillgreen's is the building and atmosphere. I also ordered fried cheese sticks. They brought out the marinara sauce in one of those single serving size plastic containers with the peel-off paper/foil top! Who goes to a nice steakhouse to eat sauce out of a disposable mcnugget sauce style container? It rendered this fine building about as classy as a Taco Bell. Great job! read more

It was my first visit to Pilgreen's and I will be back! No wait, good price and the ribeye steak was out of this world.

I used to eat at the Pilgreen's in East Point and then at Southlake. I thought they were out of business, so I was thrilled to find them again. We had a little trouble finding them, but it was the fault of my GPS and the road over the dam being closed. Pilgreen's is on the hill on the McDonough side of the dam on Lake Dow Rd. They weren't very crowded when we arrived Wednesday evening, but they had two large parties. The wait staff seemed a little stressed, but then more help showed up. We ordered the fried mushroom and fried cauliflower combo and it took forever to come out. I don't know if our server forgot to put in the order, the kitchen lost the order, or if another server picked up our order and delivered it to a different table. It did finally arrive and was as wonderful as I remembered. Our salads were fresh and crisp. My husband ordered the chopped steak with a baked potato. I ordered the country fried steak in gravy. The portions were very large and delicious. Dinner ended up taking longer than expected, but I think it was due to the snafu with the combo platter. Prices were reasonable. I was super disappointed, especially with the long history of this place. I got medium rare, my strip steak was definitely rare- it was gummy to chew which is not my cup of tea! It didn't taste like any marinade or seasoning was used at all. The rolls were just plain old rolls, nothing special. Greens were good. read more

As a steakhouse unfortunately it is not good. Everything else on the menu seems to be great especially their fried items. I would definitely do something about their steak cooking techniques because I had 2 steaks and they were both dry and not good. The second one was even raw but still no steak juice. So many people have talked about this restaurant so I thought I would give it a try. I can say that my first visit did not live up to the expectations that I had based on other peoples' feedback. First, the menu just did not have a lot of options. As someone who tries to eat on the healthier side, there was no option for grilled fish. I was okay with that. We had the fried pickles which were good, but they were served with plain old ranch dressing. At other restaurants, fried pickles are served with a special dipping sauce, not plain bottled ranch dressing. The pickles were good otherwise. I ordered a burger medium and my friend ordered the Kansas City sirloin medium well. The steak was cooked to the correct temperature but was not seasoned. The burger was cooked well and was dry and tasteless. The fries were greasy and soggy and lacked seasoning as well. I could not eat more than 2 bites. The staff is very friendly, and explained that they don't season anything. I was baffled that a restaurant would have a policy to jot season their food. I think people continue to come because the staff is friendly but the food was not good (except the fried pickles). Our server was given a great tip because she was very nice and I really liked her but the food was a no go. read more

Pilgreen's is a classic and Fried Cauliflower and Rip's Rings are wonderful. Hand battered and not frozen. Fried mushrooms also fresh. The steaks are still high quality. Homemade blue cheese dressing is always a favorite. Great service, family friendly and a pretty location. If you are not near Lake Dow but just want to try a new place with a view, some unique selections and a nice meal please visit. read more

Customer service was great! However, the food was not good. The salmon was undercooked and under-seasoned. The steak was not well seasoned either. The best item were the fried mushrooms. This is not the Pilgreen's from Lee Street. They just cook the steaks wit no seasoning. It was horrible and all we got was a discount for this terrible meal. The salmon with their so call special seasoning was terrible. It was not fresh and over cooked to the point it was dry. The only thing I enjoyed was the fried cauliflower and the steak fingers. The batter was seasoned which gave them flavor. Our waitress was so polite and the service was good. We even enjoyed a Lake side view while dining. Thirst are the reasons they get one star. After asking the waitress about the bland food, she informed us that they don't put seasoning on their steaks. She indicated they had so many complains that they stop seasoning the meat. We were so shocked. We also suggested that the restaurant let the patron know they don't put seasoning on their steaks to allow them the opportunity to decide if they want to order bland food. I love this place!! I recommend the Ribeye with the iconic collard greens. Also the onion ring + Fr coli is to die for. I was very impressed by their homemade 1000 island and blue cheese dressing. Staff was very accommodating and friendly. Also their homemade lemon pie and peanut butter pie was so delicious. 10/10 would definitely go back. Extremely disappointed in the food. If you want a cocktail they are excellent at that and the fried cauliflower is always good but as far as the entrees they are over priced and the quality of food is not good at all. Its just terrible that the quality has just declined over the years....I try to go 2 to 3 times a year and have been disappointed in my main course. I have tried a different item each time just to give it another shot because I just adore the location, but they need to have better quality food and need to invest in some upkeep of the building it is staring to look terrible. We spent 75.00 on dinner and drinks and trust me it was not worth 75.00 at all. PLEASE Pilgreens do something because I would love to keep coming back you are so close to my home and the Lake Dow community needs a 5 star restaurant!!!! read more

As an old patron from the 1960's at the West End Atlanta location, we drove over to the McDonough location which is not so easy to find, but it was well worth the effort. The place is in a beautiful Manor House overlooking Lake Dow and the food was just as I remembered it. Fresh crisp salad, fried chicken livers and those yummy onion rings.....could not have been better! Betty, our server has been there for 14 years and knows her stuff. We came here for my husband's birthday lunch which happend to be our first time AND only time going. First we waited 20 minutes to find someone to seat us. Then it appeared they only had one waitress working, granted the place wasnt that busy BUT she was terrible and extremely slow. I was pregnant at the time and was avoiding red meat so I order one of their grilled chicken dishes. Not only did it take an hour and a half for our food to arrive but my chicken was raw on the inside, she only put in one kids meal instead of two so my children had to share the first one. My husbands steak was extremely bland and came out cold. Would not recommend this place to anyone. Its extremely over priced! If you want a good steak I recommend Houstons or Fo de Chao. read more

I thoroughly enjoyed my ribeye. My wife enjoyed her burger, and my daughter enjoyed the largest chicken strips known to man. I grew up eating at the Lee Street location. Came here to celebrate a friend's bday. Good things first. Its kinda cool that it is located in a neighborhood. My long island tea was very good, could taste the alcohol, but not overpowering and refreshing. The onion rings were actually very good, made just the way i like them. Very friendly staff. Now the bad. The inside could use some updating. I read this place has been around for a long time and i could tell. I had the 22 oz porterhouse with mashed potatoes. The steak was cooked medium how i like, but it looked like it was cooked on a flat top griddle like at a waffle house and there was no flavor what so ever. Even the mash potatoes were bland. I am truly against using any kind of steak sauce, especially on a porterhouse steak, but i had to this time. The prices are cheaper than what i usually pay for steak, but i would rather pay the higher price if i know my steak will be well seasoned with the char marks that i like to see. read more

Gross! Ordered the 14 ounce T-bone medium rare and got it well done and it tasted like it had been defrosted and frozen again. Service was super slow never coming back. Would rather go to Outback! My wife and I went there for a dinner rehearsal for my friend's wedding. The food was excellent and the people were friendly the cocktails on the other hand was awful. My wife ordered a lite Jack and coke and the bartender must not know what lite means, the drink tasted like Jack with a splash of coke and I should know I'm a bartender myself. If your bartenders over pour your drinks you will lose money. You should teach your bartenders the basics you can do that by taking them to abc bartender school. read more

We ate there on June 18 2016 for my dad's 83 birthday. He wanted a porter house steak. It was not cut like a porter house it was one of the toughest steaks with a lot of fat on it. My dad told the waitress that was the sorriest steak he ever had. She just laughed and said I'm sorry. Didn't offer another steak or discount.
