One thing that caught our attention was that we were from out of town and our host was cheerful and delightful, what made this experience even better was one of the owner was there and gave us the significance behind the name of the venue and it bought all the more relevance of enjoying this day out in the square. We were seated inside quickly by the hostess. So no complaint there. The inside was not bad at all. We ordered the spring rolls which were good with the sweet chili dipping sauce. Next time, they should come out with additional plates for the guest to share. The wife ordered the turkey leg southern. They Turkey leg was good along with the cornbread and greens but the Mac and cheese tasted bland and box made. The cheese did not do it for us. I had the turkey leg original and I added mashed potatoes and broccoli. My complaints are Kayla the waitress did not check on us and make sure we were good until we asked for the check. Our drinks remained empty during the duration of our dinner meals. Not sure if Michael was the owner or who he was but he made sure to continually check on us. After dinner, I stopped by for a drink before heading home. The music was jumping outside so I settled in. I discovered it was karaoke night, but only the waitresses were on the mic. So this time we got the Fried Social Ribs, Deviled Eggs, Spring Rolls, Calamari, mashed potatoes and Fries. Fried Social Ribs- Tender and Juicy with a light batter and bbq sauce. Deviled Eggs- not very appealing or tasty. Tasted like pre bought boiled eggs like you buy at Walmart. Spring Rolls- they tasted good, but they gave me 3 sliced in half and on my last visit here I only got 2 so I don't know what it's supposed to be. ***DO NOT GO HERE*** Based on our experience, I find it difficult to understand some of the positive reviews. During our visit, there were multiple tables and guests complaining about long wait times and poor service. We personally witnessed other customers expressing frustration after waiting over an hour for food. My son rented a private cabana for our family, and unfortunately the experience was terrible from start to finish. We arrived at 6:30 PM and did not even have a waitress come to our cabana until around 7:00 PM. We placed our food and drink orders immediately, but service was incredibly slow. About 45 minutes later, the calamari arrived with a hair on it. No replacement, discount, or meaningful resolution was offered. The rest of the food took even longer. Four orders of chicken wings and fries did not arrive until approximately 8:45 PM. The fries tasted old and freezer-burned. Meanwhile, my son and his family ordered dinner for three at the same time we ordered, and by 9:00 PM they still had not received their food. The cabana package includes a bottle of champagne, yet we did not receive it until after 8:00 PM. The television in the cabana also did not work, despite TV access being advertised as part of the package. According to the website, Sundays are supposed to feature a live DJ, but there was no live DJ during our visit. What made the situation even more frustrating was that we spoke to management three separate times throughout the evening and nothing was resolved. The owner eventually came over and offered 20% off the food, but that did not make up for the poor service, missing amenities, defective TV, food quality issues, and extremely long wait times. Additionally, there are no refunds on the cabana rental. For a VIP experience that cost extra, this was anything but VIP. Poor service, unacceptable food quality, advertised amenities not provided, and management that failed to correct the issues. We will not be returning and cannot recommend this establishment. The restaurant is located in the heart of downtown McDonough, which has a charming and walkable vibe definitely a cute area to explore. Once seated, the waitress brought over the menus, but unfortunately, the service didn't feel welcoming. There was no greeting, no mention of whether it was my first time, no explanation of the menu, and no suggestions or highlights of best-sellers just a very routine drop-off. From the menu, I ordered the 1942 Punch, which I'd rate a 3/5. Not bad, but not memorable. For my entrée, I had the Blackened Salmon Dinner Plate, which was actually good. While the food was decent, I don't see myself returning. It felt like a "try it once" type of experience. We decided to eat here because it was my son's 22nd bday and we noticed that they had a happy hour. It was 94 degrees and their gate was locked. The young lady attempted to unlock it using a key ring full of keys. She aphids but the manager didn't. There was no music and the air conditioner wasn't working. Upon entering the building, I was shocked to see how small it was - cute but small. There were 3 other tables being occupied. The next thing I notice was there was no air circulating, it was not hot, but somewhat stuffy. 1) it took our server about 6 mins to acknowledge us, granted she was assisting other tables. She was professional once she attended to us. 2) we wanted the frozen drinks, they were out. Asked for Grey Goose with Cranberry juice, they were out. So I settled for Tito's (that was mistake #2) - that came with 6 cubes of ice!!!!! So we placed our order, fried calamari, and egg rolls as appetizers, this was fresh and decent. The lunch meals were horrible, I ordered the 1/2 rack of ribs, they were under cooked, I was unable to cut or pull away from the bone, there was NO smoke flavor and the 1942 sauce was the worst ever. The broccoli was mushy and flavorless. Husband ordered the $5 Jack & Coke - it came in a 4 oz glass and it was very weak. His meal was the Grouper with collards and sweet potato fries. He was not a fan of the fries, collards were dry, Grouper was questionable if it was even grouper but it seasoned and fried well. Had a great experience at 1942 On The Square! Our server, Precious was very attentive, friendly, and informative. The food was delicious! Everything was well-seasoned, fresh, and served piping hot. Can't recommend the zucchini fries with the jalapeño ranch enough -- those were to die for! The drinks were strong and well-balanced. We really appreciated that the fruit flavor in the margaritas wasn't artificial tasting or overly sweet. Praises to the manager as well. I can't unfortunately can't recall her name, but she was so pleasant to speak with, and very receptive to the minor feedback we had about not being able to find the location or a sign from the road. I am writing to express my disappointment with the service my family and I received during our recent visit. There were six of us in our party, and my husband and I both ordered the Southern Turkey Leg. When my meal arrived, I had to wait approximately 4-5 minutes to get silverware after locating our server. Shortly afterward, the rest of our table received their meals--except for my husband. We were told that his food was on the way; however, it did not arrive until everyone else had already finished eating. At that point, my husband declined the meal due to the long delay. When we spoke with the manager/owner, we were told that we had already paid for the meal and that food must be paid for once ordered, even if it is not received. This was confusing, as we had not yet been given the check. The manager stated that he was "not in the business of giving away food," which we found to be quite unprofessional. Although he later offered a 50% discount as an exception, we reiterated that my husband no longer wanted the meal. He then said he would take the food back and remove it from the bill; however, when we reviewed the check, we were still charged for it. Some ladies and I decided to go to 1942 for ladies night on a Saturday. The vibe was vibing with a band playing ole school hits. Everyone was super nice and helpful. But the cocktails were overpriced and not that good. The tequila flight was the best of all the drinks. The top shelf margaritas taste like juice, the chocolate martini was too sweet and we could barely taste any liquor. I was very disappointed in the cocktails. The food was pretty good. I ended up getting the appetizer for my meal. The fries were cold/dry/unseasoned. The mash potatoes, broccoli, Mac n cheese were cold and also not seasoned well. Unfortunately tasted boxed and frozen. Although our daughter didn't eat the broccoli and took maybe two scoops of the mash potatoes and macaroni they denied taking them off our receipt. Frozen drinks were also unavailable because the machine didn't work. The hostess, our waitress Ashanti, and the young lady that brought our food were very polite and working hard. Unfortunately our waitress had 90% if not more of the tables inside and out. Yet, she did the best she could with a smile. There was one other waitress that we noticed and two other young ladies passing out the hookahs, which our waitress also did. Her work ethic was on point. At one point I noticed she took two table orders and our refill request by memory with no mistakes. Definitely good at what she does. 1942 on the square gets two stars 1 for Ashanti, the hostess (sorry I forgot her name) & the food runner. The other star is for the ambience. We likely will not visit this location again. Hopefully, management will see this and take head to the other complaints from Sunday night. We heard one table complain and saw a few others.
