Delicious! We were headed to Tidewater, which we love, but it was closed so we ended up coming here. We are so glad we did!! A new favorite of ours. We had poke and pulled pork sandwich. It's cozy inside but all seats have views of the tvs if you want to watch a game. The beer list is ok. Not great, but you should be able to find something to meet your needs. After looking at the menu, I opted for the steak salad. I was pleasantly surprised on how good the salad looked. More importantly, I was really surprised on how good it tasted. Their original vegetarian dish called The Munster veggie sandwich consists of a black bean patty, Munster cheese, basil hummus, spinach, fajita veggies, grilled portobello mushroom, sliced avocado with tomato basil, all on a brioche bun. For the carnivores, they offer chicken to tri-tip. I ordered the tri tip dip. The portion was huge. The amorosa roll was baked to perfection and the rosemary au jus sauce was not too salty. First off I have to give the bartender Ryan a shout out because he's really what made this experience great! He was quick, knowledgeable, and super friendly! Now on to the rest: Food 4/5- split a salad, basket of tots and fries, and the fried pickles. The fries and tater tots were my favorite but I just love potatoes. There's really not much bad to say about what we ate, just that the fried pickles had a bit too much breading on them. Drinks 5/5- can't really go wrong here! Their specialty cocktails are bomb. And when I got a whiskey neat, Ryan had such a cool way of serving the glass over ice. Real skills there Atmosphere 5/5- outside is such a cute building, and the inside was just really modern and cool. Tvs for sports, open seating. The best WINGS I've ever tried!! If you like wings - you should check this place. They have more than 12 different varieties... I've tried BBQ and it was super good. The place by itself very nice too. We've been there on Friday and it was loaded, but not too crowded. So our orders were made super quick and we didn't have to wait. Came here and lucked out as it was WING WEDNESDAY!!! They have a lot of wing options in terms of flavor and we got 20 wings so we tried out 4 flavors. Hands down my favorites out of what we tried were the Old Bay & Honey Bourbon sauce. We also got the thai chili and Dante's inferno and they weren't too hot but I was not a fan of them. We also go the Queso appetizer which was delicious but surprisingly not spicy enough. I will definitely be coming back to try the other things on the menu! Cool place to hang out, watch games and have cocktails but HANDS DOWN the food is AMAZING! We come here almost every weekend for brunch and are always more than stoked with our meal. I've been wanting to come to this restaurant for awhile. I'm so happy I finally made it! I highly recommend the cocktail called "noonish". It was the best cocktail I've had in quite awhile. I also had the Shrimp Al Mexcal. My partner had the fish and chips. The shrimp had a little spicy kick. The fish was perfectly fried, not greasy. I had this place bookmarked and am glad that I had a chance to stop in for lunch last week. The place is relatively small but somehow seems to have enough tables and seats at the bar to seat all the customers. I checked in on Yelp and got free chips and salsa. I liked the smoky roasted taste of the salsa a lot. For lunch I had the seafood Po Boy sandwich. It has fried shrimp and mahi and a wonderful cajun sauce that's very flavorful with just the right amount of spice. I actually just took some of the seafood out of the sandwich and dipped it into the sauce and skipped most of the sandwich roll. The service was very good and I'd come back here again. read more

Finally made it to Pillbox. Great remodel of the restaurant, and I like the decor and lighting. They put a bar in the back of the restaurant, they have several TVs ,and a nice small outside patio deck out front. Plus they are just a block away from the beach. We went for Happy Hour and had a wonderful time. We tried the Fried Pickles and the Sweet Chili Chicken Wings, both of them were yummy!! My friend had the The "Burro" which is a Tequila Mule, and said it was amazing. And the Chopped Salad is was great. The staff was very friendly. Anything but medicinal, the Pillbox is filled with great eats and a solid selection of craft beer. If you're anywhere in the Solana Beach area, then the Pillbox is a must-stop for you. A short walk from both the beach and Cedros, in the direction of the beach, lies a little gem of a spot called The Pillbox. This is a great spot for eats before seeing a show or after a surf, after a trip to Culture or before rocking out at Saddle Bar next door. We came the second night they were open and it was spot on. Busy, but not overwhelming, the staff was on it and the crowd was there for a good time. We sat at the bar and ordered right from Ryan. Went will all apps vs. plates and were super stoked on the selection. The marinated steak tips were rad (eat with the bread for extra yum, sans bread if you're paleo or something like that), fried pickles were plentiful and the queso fundido dip amazing. My favorite was the spicy buffalo chicken dip, which could be a meal in itself if you're down... or more if you're feeling like a fat kid. Plenty of TV's for watching games and a nice outdoor deck for people watching. The Pillbox is going to be a regular stop in my rotation for lunch and beers after North County surf trips or meeting with friends living on the other side of the 52. Stoked! read more

Stopped by here after a beach workout and during Fiesta del Sol. The beer garden required cash only so we decided to eat here. The door guy at the bar next door raved about their wings so we had to try it out. They have a cute little patio out front but also indoor sitting. We sat inside because no drinks are allowed in the patio. We ordered from their wings selection. 5 Dante's Inferno, 5 Buffalo, and 5 Ranch Sriracha. Between the 3 of us this was perfect to share. The Dante's Inferno has a kick to it so if you can't handle the heat, don't order it. The smell is strong and you can see the peppers on it. The Ranch Sriracha was not hot but really good. I'd order it again. I have no complaints for the Buffalo. All good! Not to mention their My Boy Blue drink on their drink menu. If you like blueberry flavored anything, get this drink. It's one of those dangerous drinks...so good you an drink a lot! We stopped after 2 rounds but we'll be dreaming of those 'Boys' for awhile. Service was super friendly and nice. My first time here and I have to say I'm very impressed. Same owners as the Saddle. You can actually order food and they will hand deliver to the Saddle for you. I had the marinated steak tips and the steak was perfectly cooked. It was very tender and came with sautéed onions and mushrooms with some garlic bread. I like onions but I never eat them by themselves. Until now. These were so tender and delicious that I will be comparing future onions to Pillbox Tavern's. They had one of my favorite beers on tap, St Archer White. Also have a full bar and my favorite Saddle bartender BJ was there. It seems a few of the Saddle staff do double duty with Pillbox. Which I like. Nice to see a familiar face. Oh and they have SKINNY French fries!!!! My favorite. Only one thing though they could have used a touch more salt. Another small thing too is that I am 5'5 and I had a hard time getting up and off the tall tables. I was wearing a skirt and it was a little awkward. And I didn't even get a discount for the free show =) In all seriousness though Pillbox Tavern will definitely become a part of my rotation. read more

Queso Dip w/ Meat - This was SO GOOD! I cannot even explain why. Maybe we were just so hungry but I could not stop eating it. The cheese, the meat, the garnishes, all mixed so well together! Sweet Chili Wings - This tasted like its name. Pretty good flavor. Sirachi Ranch Wings - This tasted like spicy ranch but I wasn't too big on this flavor. Chef Shelly's BBQ Wings - Great BBQ flavor.
