The man who was on site that day was nice but not helpful. In emailing Dyan later, I wrote that perhaps we should have come when she was there, because she might know the memo books better, and could point us in the right direction to find an upholstery fabric in a lavender or lilac color. Her response was that "Lavender and lilac are not popular in today's fabric industry, but we do have a selection of white upholstery fabrics." First of all, she's wrong. Mills and fabric houses offer plenty of options in lavender, lilac, and other shades of light purple. Just look at Kravet's, Robert Allen's, or any other to-the-trade website. I worked in that industry for 20 years. Second, that wasn't what I asked. I asked for her help, and I was told the color I was seeking wasn't popular and I could try a white fabric. (Of course you have white fabric!) This was not helpful, and to be told that what I was looking for is not popular is borderline rude. Her response put me off so much that I've delayed the project for a year. I'm now beginning the process with another upholstery shop and am reminded of my negative experience with Dyan at Dan's. Maybe if you get a better salesperson, you'll have a better experience. But I'll never recommend Dan's.

Aby did such a great job the first time, we didn't hesitate for her to do it again. I sent her a few inspiration pictures, and when I went to pick out fabric, she already had narrowed down the samples for us, which streamlined the selection process. A few weeks later Aby let us know our bench was ready. It was exactly what I wanted, and the fabric had the perfect texture and color. I'm sure I could have bought a new bench for the price of the reupholstering, but I don't think I can find one that's custom made exactly as I want.

When I started calling around to Furniture business close to me some weeks ago, I didn't get very…read morefar. I had a Chippendale chair with a broken seat base that needed to be replaced, but wanted to keep the fabric. Most places weren't interested in fixing something 'so small'.. So, I got on Yelp and decided to use their AI Assistant to find someone who could help. The responses came faster than I could have anticipated. The first one was from Leo at Leo's Upholstery. This was a business I was already considering, being somewhat close after 2 in Oakland. Leo's reviews are what sold me, outside of how responsive Leo was to my inquiry. I dropped off the chair, had a great chat with Leo about the chair, what we had done with it and other topics. He said it would be ready by Monday or Tuesday. I receive a text early on Tuesday morning, letting me know the chair was ready. We arranged a time and I came to get the chair. It was as promised. It's fixed (after many months of being damaged), it looks great, feels solid and I couldn't be happier with the experience. Leo will be my Go-To Furniture repair going forward.

Unfortunately, the side rail…read moreon one side of the bed cracked when it was plopped down on too roughly and I didn't know who to go to to repair it - the original store (Crate and Barrel) was completely useless. Fortunately I found Tri Valley Upholstery. I send them pictures of the damaged rail and made a "reservation" to bring it in the following week to be worked on right away so as to have as brief a down downtime as possible. Ed at Tri Valley was great - I brought it in on a Tuesday and was able to pick it up on Thursday beautifully repaired for what I felt was a very reasonable price considering the work that had to be done and the excellent job they did.
