We've been craving Shrimp fried Yak lately. I don't know what the deal is, but we've been down to drive 30-40 mins away just to get it, and never the same place twice. I looked up best Yak in Baltimore and they mentioned Pimlico so off we went. 49 mins away & all I could remember was thinking, "this better be good". The neighborhood is not the best in the world but it's not the worst either. Next to the carry out were some street vendors selling shoes & stuff which lead to a lot of traffic out front, but everything was cool. We ordered the shrimp fried yak, beef fried yak, beef and broccoli & off of recommendations alone... they're made to order jumbo shrimp fried rice. For me, the yak was the best that I've had so far. We've gone to Jimmy's & Joy Luck (formerly Mike's) but everything here just tasted so much fresher. No hate, the other places were good too, this was just... better. The shrimp fried rice was the star of the show for me today. The shrimp were huge and they don't skimp, you get your money's worth. Inside of the establishment is small, your standard Chinese carry out but as the cashier, maybe even the owner handed us our meals, he wished us all a good night, which was a nice touch. Also, they don't just take cash like most of these establishments in Baltimore, they accept card, cash app and more, which was a nice touch. For what it's worth, this place is a good 4 star carryout for the community staples which are fried rice, egg foo young, and yet gaw mein. Those are the only menu items I've seen and heard patrons order from here; for decades. NOTE: here, you have two options for yat gaw mein; stir fried and broth-based. Baltimore locals seem to enjoy the stir fried version which is dark in color and very savory. Only in Baltimore have I tried the stir fried version which is delicious, however, very heavy. Some in Baltimore consume theirs with ketchup which can be added in or on the side. I ordered pork yat gaw mein and I appreciate the large chunks of roasted pork in it. Delicious, however, very rich in flavor. The fried rice is some of the best urban area fried rice I've tried, however, what keeps it from being my favorite is there's a tad too much soy sauce used. To achieve the dark color, it seems they use quite a bit of dark soy sauce. It is not salty, however, very rich and savory; also borderline oily. But still a very good fried rice. The jumbo shrimp fried rice is a value and an excellent choice. The fried chicken wings were absolutely delicious and seasoned well. No sauce needed. The inside of the restaurant resembles your typical urban carryout with little to no appeal. The customer service is good; the workers appreciate the customers and vice versa. Probably the worst Chinese food I've ever had. I got the Triple Delight and hubby got the Deluxe Lo Mein. The rice has a burnt/smoky like taste and it looked unappealing. While I was happy that they gave us a huge portion of meat, the portion of rice was incredibly small. The meat wasn't flavorful and was overcooked. It was just a very underwhelming experience. The shrimp fried rice tasted a like grease, maybe since it's fried rice, but with soy sauce that flavor is overridden. When I saw the shrimp I got excited because they were extra large size and very plentiful. There had to be about a half pound in the Chinese box it came in, a guarantee to fill your gut. The shrimp fried rice can be its own meal, some folks would obviously have leftovers. If you're in this sketchy little area or at Sinai Hospital, stop by and tell Yelp what you think. Excellent food! I read some reviews online before trying this place. Funny thing is I'm from this neighborhood and never tried this place until now. I'm a HUGE lover of shrimp toast. Sadly 98% of the places in the area do not make it right. And then there is this place which falls into that 2% that makes it good. Their shrimp toast is the best I've ever had! It's all shrimp on the inside (no fillers or nastiness in the middle lol)...and it has a rich old bay flavor. Amazing! As noted by others, the egg rolls are big and delicious. Although they were ok, I wasn't a huge fan of the chicken wings. The chicken fried rice is on point. I got mine with white meat and it's definitely real chicken. I could go on and on about this place haha. Only demerit for this place was the shrimp in the shrimp fried rice. The shrimp weren't deveined (grrr). All in all a great place to eat. Friendly couple who owns this place. Prices are very reasonable and you get HUGE portions. I'm sort of built like an NFLer and even I can't eat everything without saving some for the next day.
