I'm the "teenager" who couldn't stand that pizza, (rest of the review my mom began) I asked him, again, still nice and polite, brushing off his rudeness and his curtness, if there was a better time I could call back to talk to him. I explained that he seemed busy, and that I wanted to talk to him when he had more time to do so. When I asked if there was a better time, I got no response. He literally ignored me, stating, "Tell me your name" and I did, and he knew RIGHT AWAY WHY I WAS CALLING. (Mind you, this was about two weeks ago when the pizza incident happened.) Defensively, he began to sternly, as if I was his child who had gotten into trouble and he was scolding me, while he explained to me why it was that he shorted me on the refund he had originally promised me would be a full refund. I was taken aback. This was not the same person I spoke to, surely this has to be my imagination. He gets even louder proclaiming that we brought back a full pizza, so we got back the price for a full one, and he over-exaggerated by saying that we ate "half of one of the pizza's" and immediately followed by stating, "We have you on camera." At that point, I almost felt threatened. But, again, keeping my cool and calm, I remember the restaurant industry can be a busy, frustrating place. Perhaps he was having a bad day. That did not make it right for how he treated me, but I did not want to return the negativity and rudeness he was projecting onto me. I kindly replied, "Perfect. I would love it if you could please go back and look at that video surveillance, just in case you forgot what the pizza looked like, and---" Robert cut me off and insisted, "You ate HALF a pizza" insisting that was why he refunded me for the one we didn't touch. We technically ate less than 25% of the pizza, I could barely explain what I wanted to say, because he began yelling at me, cutting me off and telling me I needed to let him finish what he was saying. (Uhhh...Robert, I never even got to explain to you why I was calling, and you jumped all over me verbally... on the defense right away, and if you ask me, that was because you KNEW WHAT YOU DID WAS WRONG.) When I realized that I was never going to get anywhere with the pitiful excuse for a restaurant owner, I told him he did not have to say anything else. I hung up so I did not have to be subjected to more of his ridiculousness. First of all, we did NOT eat half your lousy pizza. I couldn't even stomach it, and two people who will eat almost anything, did not even want more than their tiny slice. (My BF told me that before we were together, sometimes he would be hungry and didn't feel like cooking, so he would just eat "No-Bake Cheesecake" in its powdered form. Jello, cake mix, brownie mix, all in powdered form, were also fair game. That is how un-picky he is! So if he said it was bad, wouldn't eat it, and was on board with me to return it, then you know that is saying something HUGE.) But even if we HAD eaten HALF your pizza, and given you one and a half pizzas back, your logic is completely off. You basically kept the pizza you charged us for, and had you said that before we left your store, we probably wouldn't have left as happy as we did, or at the very least, we would have taken that partially eaten pizza and given it to someone homeless, I know they just threw it out anyways. I mean, we were paying for it after all according to your logic, right? That is because you promised to fully refund us, but you lied to my BF and my faces, and when we weren't there, you only gave back half Secondly, are you as a "successful restaurant owner" that hard up for the other pizza's value you promised to refund to us, but then re-negged on providing us? Because if you're "that successful" and that "popular in Burbank" then surely you have the wherewithal to know, if you treat people this way, you will lose business faster than Covid spread. Not only would this have been a positive review, with lots of thanks and praise for owning up to the responsibility a true restaurant owner would and should, but it would have brought you even more future customers. Now, with the way you have treated us, the whole county will find out just how you really treat your customers who don't share your idea of "great pizza". You lied. You bullied me today over the phone when I was more than polite, and you already knew what you did was wrong. That shows you have zero class. You are dishonest. Maybe you really DID need that money after all, and maybe your pizza is great in your head. The way you treated me today will never be forgotten, and I can never recommend this establishment to anyone while it is under your reign. If you really DO own this place, I feel terrible for the people who work there. If you haven't eaten here, and you are contemplating on ordering from this place, I highly do not recommend it to anyone. It is an acquired taste, if anything. When I asked my son, he said it looked good, but it tasted like cardboard, like with no flavor, as if it had been washed off before cooking and the sauce had zero flavor to it, almost tasting like spaghetti sauce, but the sauce being a bland kind that you would normally find in a can of plain tomato sauce. My boyfriend said the same thing. Him and I felt that spending $50 on a meal we had not even consumed was a disappointment, and we did something we normally do not do. If I ever have left over ANYTHING, I typically give it to my next door neighbor, who is always hungry and who also does not have a lot of money to buy food. Instead of giving it to him, because we did not want to subject him to how bad of an experience this pizza was (and because he was not home to ask) we decided to bring the pizza, one whole one, and one missing 2 slices, with my one-bite-of-the-pizza-missing slice (I had also taken a piece of the crust off and tried it, but it was also inedible, and tasted even more like cardboard.) back to PINBALL PIZZA to tell them what happened. Once we got there, I actually called and the "owner" answered. Robert was very "matter-of-fact" with his tone, and he told me to come in. I wanted to give the restaurant a heads up before I came in. Robert was there with another female employee, and we nicely explained the situation. We're talking one whole pizza, and more than 75% of the second pizza sitting right in front of the two, they kept insisting how long they had been in Burbank, how people just "Loved their pizza" and he kept giving us reasons (A.K.A. excuses of how this could not be true, etc.) as to why his pizza was the best. He asked where we lived if we had ever ordered from them before (We hadn't) and then when we said that he even went as far to ask us where we normally order our pizza from. It felt as though he was interrogating us, and he was asking personal questions that were none of his business if you ask me. In any case, we were more than willing to talk with him. We happily told him where we lived, and a few places we typically order from. The last place we mentioned he immediately responded by saying "Ohhh! Our customers mention them all the time and the say how badly they hate ****'s Pizza." (Okay, what's your point?) In any event, he looked at the uneaten pizza, the full one was on the bottom, and the partially eaten pizza was the one on top, so he could easily see it. He and the female next to him tried to look in the system and could not refund me there on the spot due to their "Outdated system" because even though it had been ordered the night before, it was now Sunday night, and we would have to wait until tomorrow, Monday, for them to call and get my money refunded back to my debit card, which I had with me. He agreed to refund the entire amount. Until today, I had been composing a different review, and when I realized what had happened, I decided to call and talk to Robert. I called around 4:00 P.M. while my BF was out picking up a nice, XL pizza from ****'s Pizza, because they have great pizza, but I don't want to mention that name here, since he claims everyone hated them. (Untrue) The phone rang a few times, before even saying "Hi" all I heard was, "PLEASE HOLD" (I didn't even have the option, most places say their name and ask if they can put you on hold, and when you say "Yes" they click back to the other line.) I actually held the line for about 7 or so minutes, no big deal, I was not mad and up until this point, I thought there had been a mistake when I noticed only $22.00 had been refunded, when Robert had originally promised to issue a full refund. M BF and I had left PINBALL PIZZA thinking, "Wow, maybe it was a fluke, but for sure, we're definitely going to leave them a nice long review, for being so understanding, taking responsibility, for being so helpful etc.", I wasn't planning to mention how HORRIBLE THE PIZZA WAS. I don't even send back dominos when more than half the time it is garbage pizza. Most of the chain pizzas out here aren't the greatest where we live. Every Dominos/Pizza Hut's pizza/food quality will actually depend on their owner and the city you order it in. Here in the "sort-of-ghetto", the pizza is pretty lousy, and we live close enough to Burbank to make the trip for better pizza. I had a very long review, which has been erased and never posted due to the following conversation when I called today. When Robert came back he was quite flustered, rushed even, mildly rude. I asked who the owner/manager was and he rudely replied, "What!?" and I repeated myself. He said he was, and I politely asked for his name again, he told me "Robert." I made a light-hearted joke about how could I have temporarily forgotten that name, being that it is my son's...No response. Okay, so this is going to be a long, detailed account of a review. Because this was a multi-occasion encounter & therefore, there are multiple interactions which I need to state in order to be fair about the review I'm leaving. I placed an order for two pizzas which my boyfriend picked up. There were no issues with that. In fact, the pizza looked great in all honesty. My family of 3 are avid pizza lovers, so if we like a pizza, we will continue to order it over & over & be lifelong customers. I go through phases, & I will eat at one place until I miss another type of food. Minded, we don't eat out everyday, but perhaps once a week, every week-with the exception of when we find a good Mexican restaurant or Italian restaurant & we will go there on the weekly basis. (And then we alternate, but admittedly, we eat a lot of food. ) I also have a degree in restaurant management, so I know how to talk to customers. I know that when a customer leaves upset, that's never a good thing. They should always leave happy. When you run a restaurant, you should touch every table, ensuring your guests' happiness. Should a customer leave upset, they will never come back & tell all their friends about the horrible experience. You should never have an unhappy customer, regardless of how great you feel your food is. It's all relative. Everyone's taste is different. However, this behavior, well, it's repulsive.The pizza was quite expensive, (Over $50.00 for 2 pizzas, but they were "XL") and when my BF brought them home, they LOOKED good. I don't think they were stingy on the amount of ingredients, and we paid for/ordered both pizzas with a thick crust. Because I'm trying to be as fair as possible, I am mentioning all the possible "pro's" I can so it isn't a one-sided review. and unlike many places who call a pizza "thick crust" when it's really just "regular pizza", the pizza here was actually decently thick. So VISUALLY, it looked acceptable, but TASTE wise, well, that's a whole other story. And it gets worse after this, I swear. My boyfriend is the kind of man who will eat just about anything. I have accidentally burnt his toast when making breakfast, and he saw me going to throw it away to make better toast. (It was REALLY BURNT) He grabbed it from me and happily ate it claiming, "I love it like this." You could bring him the wrong plate at a restaurant, and he'd happily eat it. My teenage son, who is almost 20, (19 is barely a teen, but old enough to eat a good amount, and he's not even a little bit picky.) This is just a bit of important background, so you understand the severity of the bad taste issue. All three of us sat down to eat, and my BF gave everyone each A slice. My son would normally eat half a pizza if he had been hungry enough, and after working all day, he was definitely hungry. My son ate most of his slice, and I noticed he did not go back for seconds. I don't think he even finished the crust. My boyfriend did the same, and the slices were small. So, this XL pizza probably had about 6-8 slices per half. (For context, SBARRO has 6 slices for their XL entire XL pizza, making each half only 3 slices.) I took a bite, and I spit it out and discarded it in my napkin. When no one wanted more, I put my piece back in the box, and saw that the rest of the pizza in the box had not been touched. We happened to stumble by this week by this amazing hidden gem in Burbank. What a crazy retro trip back in time, my children and I ordered 3 pizzas and while we waited went crazy on the classic pinball machines, just enjoying the environment and the vibes of this place! Was truly a great experience watching my kids get a little journey back in time to when I was a kid pumping quarters into pinball machines! After the pizzas were ready, my kiddos did not want to leave, so we decided to stick around and enjoy some pizza in there dining area. First and foremost, I am a pizza snob! That being said, OMG! The pizza was incredibly delicious and so freaking amazing! Fresh toppings, real cheese and one of my kids was able to grab a slice and stretch the cheese out well over their head! I'm talking this pizza not only takes you back in time, it's so classic and delicious! We chowed down and man we were satisfied! Just like the old days! Do yourself an amazing favor and check this place out! The customer service was awesome and very catering to all of our needs! I see that they have some other items on the menu, We will be back to explore the other menu options and absolutely access our inner Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!
