I cannot say enough about how great this company has been. We switched to Pinch a penny two years ago after our last pool heater failed, and our old company could not repair it. We are also snowbirds. Pinch a penny has maintained our pool, spa and all equipment perfectly. If we need equipment service, it's scheduled promptly. They really take care of our pool when we are out of town. Communication is excellent. It's important to us that the company really keeps an eye on things when we are away, and have fixed pump failures and heater failures when we are not there. It is great to have a maintenence service and the equipment service done by one vendor. The owner is also very accessible and responsive! read more

I was new to Florida and wary that I bought a house with a 35 year old original pool that needed a makeover. Didn't know anybody and heard a thousand horror stories. I ended up at a Pinch a Penny where I met Brent, the owner. And damn if he didn't do everything we wanted, on time and on budget, and we could not be happier. I appreciate the owner Lee. He has always been up front with me. However, I went in today and was not treated like a valuable customer of many years by another staff member. Pinch A Penny currently maintains my pool. I tested my water today at Pinch A Penny and the numbers we way off. They did their service yesterday. I asked why and was asked why I was checking my water. Complete denial amd rude, unprofessional treatment. How about saying 'we will try to be better'. Nothing free, just what I am paying for. The folks here were welcoming and VERY professional. We stopped in randomly to explain a problem we had with our Pentair system. We just moved into our house and couldn't figure out how to use the app to control the spa and pool heater. Kyle came out the next day and told us a critter apparently has eaten through the wire that's connected to the sensor which works with the app. He replaced the wire, patiently walked me through how to use the app and did a hands-on demo. Every staff member at this store is always so helpful in my pool needs. The free water testing is a great program to have for their clients. Ahh, boy; disappointing. After 3 store visits and a phone call, was finally able to get the store (#091 - Lockwood Ridge) to put my pool on their schedule to take care of while I was out of town for a month. Arranged for 4 visits, on Fridays. Returned home the day after last scheduled visit to find a large accumulation of dirt in one area of the pool bottom. Also found that the skimmer basket had not been emptied. Tested the chemistry (which had been well-balanced prior to my leaving town); found chlorine level to be almost twice of the max suggested range; found acid level to be too high. This was confirmed by taking a sample to the same store for their testing. When informed of poor service (and shown pics of dirt), response was, "we're going to talk to them about that." Okay...And that does what, for me? Each Friday I had received an email with the following boilerplate, which I've enhanced with what work was actually done: "We recently balanced and cleaned your pool to make it perfect and now it's ready for you to enjoy! To make it perfect, we performed the following services" PROMISED REALITY Test Water ?? Add Chemicals Not properly Clean Skimmer Basket No Skim Surface Yes, I guess Clean Bottom No Vacuum (As Needed) No" You leave your pool in the hands of "professionals" and find they were not professional, at all. Dexter hung up on me today He couldn't explain why my pool wasn't clean after 5 trips to my home for pool service He said it was my fault his company had inputted the wrong email for my account Thus no communication from Pinch A Penny regarding weekly service When I asked to talk to the Owner ... he copped an attitude "You wanna talk to the OWNER YOU wanna talk to the owner?!?" Stopped by the store on Saturday 12/15/2018 to see if I could get what the details were for a pool maintenance contract. Was told that they would email me with the scope of the work in the contract. I have contacted the store twice and was told that they would be contacting me back; contracted corporate and they said they would reach out to Brent (the owner) at the store and he would return my call. As of now, nothing. I would not recommend this store, if I was shopping for a pool service... Will continue my search elsewhere. UPDATE: Barry did return my call, however, he was unable to provide me with the information requested and then abruptly hung up the phone. Have called corporate with this bad behavior and they stated that their franchises can be run under different rules than what Corporate dictates. We have no control of them. Interesting... they have no control of their stores... moving on and far away from them now. Would not trust them to change our pool filter. read more

I would give zero stars if I could. Run the other way if you don't like paying people money for unapproved work. I paid for a light install with warranty, paid up front didn't want anything else done. I never approved any extra work but extra work was done without talking to me, they charged my card without ever talking to me for the extra work and never called me. I had to call them and question why I was charged. The OWNER gave me a bunch of excuses and lied to me about how long they were at my house. I have cameras. I let it go. A year later I have to have them come check the light because it's not working, there is power and the bulb is good. (I am a handyman and repair everything in my house, didn't touch the light because it's under warranty). They wanted a credit card and I told them no because of what happened when it was installed. Finally weeks later they show up and guess what, they did repairs without permission outside of the warranty work. They Couldn't even knock on the door to ask and there was an adult home who they could have had approve repairs and a cost but they never tried!! They seriously made an unauthorized repair without even actually trying to get it approved. Then afterwords they call me and tell me I owe them money!!!!! Had I given them my card before they came they would have charged it without saying a word to me!!!!!!! That is called theft! I stood up to the owner and manager for doing this and they both tried bullying me To still pay them. I can only imagine how many people they have done this too that aren't aware what he has done, or noticed they got charged more or someone like my mom who would just let it go. Oh ya and let's not forget the owner calling a diver saying he was at your house for over an hour for a light install and then back pedaling when I inform him I have cameras on my house. Not to mention a diver was needed when my light is literally barely underwater and the junction box is two feet away on a good day?? I can touch my light and junction box at the same time!! A diver??? Really?? Also check out the picture of the install, light isn't even flush with the wall. Do they even know what they are doing or just don't care?? read more

Called the store with a safety concern from their product, I eventually had to get a hazmat team to do a pick up, but when I talked with Ron on the phone asking for advice on what to do for disposal he was very rude, got an angry tone with me, and informed me that he was busy with customers in the store then hung up the phone on me. Well Ron, you have one less customer to worry about, I will be making my purchases from another pinch a penny, luckily there are more then one around town. I just moved to Sarasota from Texas and visited this Pinch A Penny to test my pool and spa water. They were so knowledgeable and friendly, I ended up staying for half an hour visiting with the Brent the owner. Josh came out to my house and gave me a free evaluation on my pool to start pool service, he was extremely knowledgable and said that he had 15 years experience in the industry . He will send me an email weekly to update me on my water chemistry and also any adjustments that he will make to my water. Very Knowledgeable and Highly recommended!!!!!!! Oh and great service at the store, brought jugs of chlorine to out to my car!!! I definitely prefer this particular store than the pinch a penny that is closer to my house. read more
