    In the beginning

    I was new to Florida and wary that I bought a house with a 35 year old original pool that needed a makeover. Didn't know anybody and heard a thousand horror stories. I ended up at a Pinch a Penny where I met Brent, the owner. And damn if he didn't do everything we wanted, on time and on budget, and we could not be happier. Big job: new pool surface plaster, new pavers and all new Pentair pool equipment. Brent has well established relationships with contractors who did an amazing job. Cleaned up after every work day, worked like slaves and were terrific. Brent's crew of Kyle, Jason, Tony and others were professional. No hesitation hiring these guys

    Ahh, boy; disappointing. After 3 store visits and a phone call, was finally able to get the store (#091 - Lockwood Ridge) to put my pool on their schedule to take care of while I was out of town for a month. Arranged for 4 visits, on Fridays. Returned home the day after last scheduled visit to find a large accumulation of dirt in one area of the pool bottom. Also found that the skimmer basket had not been emptied. Tested the chemistry (which had been well-balanced prior to my leaving town); found chlorine level to be almost twice of the max suggested range; found acid level to be too high. This was confirmed by taking a sample to the same store for their testing. When informed of poor service (and shown pics of dirt), response was, "we're going to talk to them about that." Okay...And that does what, for me? Each Friday I had received an email with the following boilerplate, which I've enhanced with what work was actually done: "We recently balanced and cleaned your pool to make it perfect and now it's ready for you to enjoy! To make it perfect, we performed the following services" PROMISED REALITY Test Water ?? Add Chemicals Not properly Clean Skimmer Basket No Skim Surface Yes, I guess Clean Bottom No Vacuum (As Needed) No" You leave your pool in the hands of "professionals" and find they were not professional, at all. Sad. Gave 'em 2-stars since my pool wasn't green.

    Dexter hung up on me today He couldn't explain why my pool wasn't clean after 5 trips to my home for pool service He said it was my fault his company had inputted the wrong email for my account Thus no communication from Pinch A Penny regarding weekly service When I asked to talk to the Owner ... he copped an attitude "You wanna talk to the OWNER YOU wanna talk to the owner?!?" This was the same employee who helped me at the beginning of their service I took a water sample in for testing...there was a Gentlemen behind me with one item I said he could go ahead of Me Well, Dexter then waited on 5 more people, before he got around to me The owner also blamed me for their poor service...said I had to pay for incomplete service Photos attached My pool surface is only 2 years old

    What a scam. I scheduled an appointment for them to fix few things that I was told were under…read morewarranty, one of which was a loud buzzing noise from my Hayward C200S filter housing. Tech said this is a super common issue and just overall bad design as the rubber end cap eventually forms holes/cracks so it no longer seals properly. This filter was just over a hear old, but he replaced the filter element and it fixed the issue. Then to my surprise I get a random invoice for almost $260 for the filter and install labor, when there was zero conversation or consent given for this non warrantied service. I spoke with Kevin the store manager from the Lakewood Ranch store who told me that according to his tech he did discuss with me, which is totally false. His solution was to just apologize and come get their now used filter and give me back mine, that basically they did nothing wrong. Then on top of it they were supposed to fix one remaining issue they missed on their original appointment and the tech said he was told to just install my old filter and leave. Again very poor communication as Kevin said nothing about cancelling this follow up call. I merely told him that in the future I wouldn't be a customer do theirs and he assumed this name to just cancel anything pending, instead of asking.

When I went into the store Gena was very helpful with my warranty questions, and Robert did an amazing job teaching me about my equipment. Since I've never owned a pool before, this was a great big help. Overall I would recommend Patio Pools to anybody looking to get a great pool built in a reasonable timeframe and a good budget.

We still deal with…read moreUNEVEN FOUNTAINS because they admitted to skimping out on plumbing and putting our deck jets on one plumbing line with one valve instead of 2, meaning the first fountain closest to the valve gets all the pressure and the second one is very noticeably lower in height because it gets less pressure. Our feet continue to get TORN UP in the pool because they sold us the pebble sheen but put in something MUCH COURSER which destroys everyone's feet. The bottom is SO SO ROUGH! Our concrete continues to be a huge issue and we will eventually have to have it redone or add a French drain because it is SO UNEVEN on one side that rain just sits and creates a complete mess! The roof they put in continues to leak like crazy as it did immediately after completion. People that come over to our home are appalled at the work of this company! I invite anyone and everyone over to see the complete CRAP work of this company! I am shocked they are still in business!

    On April 1, 2024, I entered into an agreement with the contractor for the complete installation of…read morea swimming pool at my property located in Palm Beach County, FL. The total agreed downpayment was $27,792.95, which I paid in full upfront via wire transfer. This payment represented the contract down-payment to start work. The contractor assured me the work would begin promptly, including obtaining necessary permits from Palm Beach County and commencing excavation, plumbing, structural, and finishing work. However, no permits were obtained (I confirmed this with Palm Beach County Building Division records). No work of any kind has been performed on the site and we had to hire a different contractor. I first became aware that the contractor had no intention of performing the work in October 2024, when repeated requests for updates, start dates, or progress went unfulfilled beyond vague excuses. Since then, I have maintained ongoing contact with the contractor via text messages and calls. In every communication, the contractor has acknowledged receipt of my payment but provided only stories and promises of repayment or future action, with no actual refund or meaningful resolution. Examples include: Promises to "send a check next week" that never materialized. Claims of "financial issues" or "waiting on suppliers" without evidence. Assurances that work would start "soon" repeated with zero follow-through. This pattern demonstrates financial dishonesty/misconduct (misuse or misappropriation of funds paid for a specific project) and abandonment of the job after receiving substantial payment without just cause or written extension. The contractor has failed to commence work within required timelines under F.S. 489.126 and has not refunded any portion despite demands. This has caused me significant financial harm ($27,792.95 lost), and emotional distress.
