Chicken tacos Quesabirria Taco Chips & Queso
    Chandler J.

This place was great! It was my first time eating here and we were not disappointed. I was craving some Mexican food and decided to stop in since I live nearby. The service was great and we were greeted by a woman who knew her way around the menu and could make recommendations. The quesabirria tacos lived up to the hype!! So tender and juicy with the perfect amount of kick from the spicy salsa. I also tried the chicken tacos which were a little dry for my liking but still good. Chips and queso were salted great. The overall atmosphere in the restaurant was great with bright lighting and plenty of seating. I'll be returning and I highly recommend!!

We ordered one of every regular menu tacos, and I got a margarita. They were yummy, especially the pork. But the best part was the hot sauce, my husband loved it. The place was clean and bright and the counter service was quick and friendly. We would recommend.

Located in the space where The Corner Restaurant was a Westport fixture for several decades, Pinches has transformed the space into a neon colored Mexican street food restaurant and bar. The bar is fairly small with just a few stools and it is also where you queue up to order. You are given a number and you pick up your food from the kitchen window when the number is called. My wife and I shared an order of guac and chips and 5 tacos. The guac was creamy and worth a re-order but the chips were weak. My pollo and Campechano (chorizo and asada) tacos were plentiful for $3 each and had the obligatory cilantro and onions. No issues with the quality but what was missing to truly put Pinches on par with top tier street taco merchants was the lack of condiments. A slice of raw cucumber and a lime wedge was served on the plate and a couple of unmarked bottles of sauce were on a shared table at the pickup window next to the ketchup and plastic silverware. I'm not sure that there is a reason that I would return... if I'm wanting to drink, there are multiple joints in the neighborhood with real bars and a much better Mexican street food option several blocks to the northwest with a much larger menu and a serious salsa and condiment table. With its location, it should do well with the bar crowd when they need some cheap sober-up food and want a step-up from the Taco Bell Cantina across the street. 3.5 overall, rounding up for the decent pricing and quick service.

I came here for happy hour and their taco Tuesday special and it was such a good deal! I tried their house margarita which was $5 on HH and it def hit me with a little buzz and flavor! The taco special is $1 off tacos so I got 3 of the el pastor and was impressed with the flavor and quickness of the order. The vibe is fun and offers a younger crowd to the Westport area with a bright and colorful ambiance. Staff were so kind to bring water and napkins on their own without requests as well.

Totally recommend! Pinches has awesome food - I've tried the Quesabirria Taco, street tacos with carne asada, queso with chorizo, and all the salsas - everything amazing! My fav birria taco in the kc area! Service is also awesome - both bartenders I have had the pleasure of ordering from made amazing margaritas (I ordered with patron and Tajin) - yum! Cute atmosphere and photo ops! Must try! Love coming here!

Everything was great. We had a burrito and a quesadilla. The fries were perfectly cooked and my favorite part.

The dining area and the bar at the end.

So we loaded up and showed up one day around Noon. Ambiance was really cool. It's in the middle of some sort of progressive looking shanty-esque suburb. The kind of place that does drag queen bingo. I was right at home. Inside was college sport bar, but with a nice, huge board on the wall of all their beer selection. It Was quite expansive. Service was top notch, too. Nice server took care of us, made sure our glasses were never empty. The food came out at a good clips, and we got an unexpected bonus of free little beignet-like donuts with some delicious dipping sauces. As for food, we started off with a jumbo order of the Truffle Parmesan Hand-Cut Fries for the table. We got to choose two from their extensive list of aioli dipping sauces. Fries were good. Dusted with the perfect amounts of truffle and parmesan. And the sauces were my oh my. I recommend paying the upcharge to just try them all. I mentioned the time earlier, because we had no idea we were stumbling upon their brunch menu. Even more options to choose from! I got the Crispy Waffle Smash Burger (smashed hertzog beef patties, fried egg, smoked bacon, merkt's cheddar, caramelized onion, maple aioli, crispy buttermilk waffle). This thing was really nice. Perfect waffle, not too small, not too big, and no oily or anything obtrusive. A nice bun option. Eggs and bacon sometime get lost against giant burger patties, but with these smash patties, the extra accoutrements really stand out and make this burger really stand out in my mind. I also for the try the Smokestack Burger (smoked burnt ends, smoked gouda, whiskey bbq glaze, pickle relish, chipotle aioli & crispy jalapeño straws). Uhhh, as you can read, this thing was loaded with goodness. Fatty burger, smokey burnt ends, sweet boozy glaze, acidic pickles, and texture from that jalapeno. This was the perfect burger. I insist you order this. Overall, my research did not reveal Beer Kitchen to me, locals recommendation did. Shows that you gotta use your street smarts instead of your book smarts sometimes. Best meal I had in Kansas City.

The restaurant was…read morepretty busy when we arrived, so we chose to sit at the bar rather than wait for a table near the entrance. We started with the Mini Cheddar Biscuits to share, which come with four biscuits. They were excellent--fluffy on the inside with a slightly crispy exterior. The cheddar flavor hit first, followed by a touch of sweetness from the honey, and the combination worked really well. For my meal, I ordered the Fried Chicken, substituted the mashed potatoes for mac and cheese, and added a side of collard greens. The fried chicken was absolutely amazing, perfectly seasoned and fried. The mac and cheese was rich, creamy, and cheesy with a nice crunch from the breadcrumb topping. The collard greens were some of the best I've ever had. They had a great smoky flavor and were well-seasoned without being overly salty. The only downside to the experience was the service toward the end of our meal. We sat for around 15 minutes waiting for the bartender to come by so we could get drink refills and the check. We eventually had to wave them down, even though they were working right in front of us. Overall, the food was outstanding and easily made up for the minor service issue. I'll definitely be returning to try more of the menu.

We parked a block south on 51st Street and walked into the restaurant at 540pm on a Thursday. I ordered half the happy hour menu and my friend ordered a bottle of Moscato and the Ribeye. He smiled and said half price wine! Our server was attentive, but he ordered the food all together instead of coursing it out. I should have asked for half of mine to come out early as we were sharing. The tacos were ok, good flavor, but basic presentation. The Fries were delicious, the Brussels and Cauliflower were awesome. The Hawaiian Ribeye was also good, cooked perfectly, good flavor, but the chilled cucumber salad on a warm plate was an interesting choice... We were off to a show, so we didn't have time for dessert.

The photos looked amazing, and this place has solid reviews so I was walking in with a certain expectation. What was remarkable is how it was even better than I thought it would be. Let's start with the ambiance. The actual cafe is very small but charming. If it's cold or rainy outside you might need to skip Le Champion unless it's not busy as I think only a few folks can really fit inside. The inside is well designed though, and feels charming without being overwhelming. What stole the show for me though was the patio. As someone who studied abroad in France it felt so French to me in the best way. To me, it feels like taking a Parisian cafe and mixing it with a hip KC bar - it doesn't feel necessarily exactly like one or the other, but it compliments both and feels uniquely it's own in the best way possible. On the day I visited it was absolutely gorgeous outside and I had one of the best breakfast burritos of my life, mostly due to their chimichurri sauce. I also pretty much add a star for any place that keeps espresso tonic on the menu. Overall I love Le Champion and can't wait to return.

There are also a few other bars and restaurants close by and I often forget about that area as being a destination so, I'll have to go out there more often. It has a nice laid back feel. The inside of the restaurant is clean and the bar area is spacious, it wasn't crowded so I had plenty of space to sit solo for a late lunch. The menu isn't the most inventive, just good old fashioned bar food. However, to me that really hits the spot a lot of the time, I don't need all the frills all the time. They had a good selection of appetizers as well as sandwiches, burgers, pizzas and daily specials. I was craving a BLT. Usually the Peanut is my go-to but I must say Tower Tavern may now take top spot. Especially for the price...$10?! Yes please. Also, I am a sucker for homemade potato chips so I loved to see that as the side option. The bacon was crispy not flabby and sad, it had the perfect salty bite. The shredded cheese made me so happy because it was generously piled on the texture is just nostalgic to me. The tomato was overpowering, sometimes a soggy thick slice of tomato can ruin a BLT for me. I will definitely be back to Tower Tavern to use my Pub Pass and to try some more food. If you're looking for a very solid bar with very solid bar food I would say give it a try! The prices are right, the beer was flowing, and the food was tasty and executed right.
