The Dan Dan noodles were so creamy and flavorful, and the pineapple sweet and sour chicken was delicious. My favorite dish by far was the crispy chili chicken. It was absolutely incredible and cooked perfectly. The sparkling apple tea was surprisingly one of my favorite drinks. It was so refreshing and light. I also really love the hot oolong tea. For dessert, the chocolate lava dumplings were absolutely phenomenal. We came here last night for dinner and was excited since I've heard great things so far. We ordered: - mapo tofu - while tasty, this was not authentic in the slightest. It was missing peppercorn which is a key ingredient for this classic sichuan dish. It also just tasted more westernized and not as spicy - green beans - these were fantastic and we devoured these - chili chicken - this was also fantastic. Very crispy and tasted authentic. Not too spicy though - spicy braised short ribs - unfortunately this was not spicy in the slightest. The waitress kept saying it was spicy and too spicy for her so we ordered it but we tasted 0 spice. The beef was tender but this was pretty much the most disappointing dish out of the bunch Overall, get the green beans and the chicken. The mapo tofu was good but not authentic so it's less spicy and numbing so if your spice tolerance is low, this is a good substitute. Forget about the braised short ribs. This place is located at Row DTLA so parking in the structure is free for 2 hours. Came with 3 others around 1:30 pm on a Friday and were seated right away. The inside of the restaurant is decorated so beautifully and the smell of the food was so nostalgic. We ordered way too much food for 4 girls but we wanted to try so many things. For appetizers, we got the Chongqing Crispy Chili Chicken ($18), Mint-Wasabi Shrimp Bites ($22), and Mala Crispy Soft Shell Crab ($26). The stand out dish was the soft shell crab. It was fried perfectly and so flavorful with the perfect amount of spice. The shrimp bites were unique because of how they battered it and the wasabi gave it a nice kick. The chicken was great too and came with a lot for sharing. For our mains, we ordered the Dan Dan Noodle ($15), Dry-Fried String Beans ($17.50), Salted Egg Yolk Chicken Wings ($22), Spicy Wontons in Chili Oil ($12), and Spicy Braised Beef Short Ribs ($46). The most unique dish was the chicken wings and they were fantastic. We've never had anything like it and really enjoyed it. The string beans were the best string beans we've ever had - not exaggerating. They were cooked perfectly and the seasoning they used worked so well together. The short ribs were also amazing in flavor and the meat was so tender and fell right off the bones. The noodles and wontons were good but everything else stood out way more. Rice was $2.50 a bowl and we just shared one and it was enough for us. When our bill came, it came with pieces of white rabbit candy - such a cute touch! Soup dumplings were medium hot but the skin could be a bit thinner. Made a resy for Wednesday night at 7:30 PM and got seated immediately -- no wait at all. You could get free 2 hour validated parking at the lot, and then I google mapped the place to find it. I put "birthday" in the special occasion notes and they surprised my friend with a free drink!!. The kindness!! They only serve non-alcoholic drinks here, the waitress said they're still waiting on their alcoholic license, but they are so, so good. One of the best drinks I've had at a restaurant, alcoholic or not. Every single dish was great but my top dish was the mapo tofu. The silkiness of the tofu, the depth of the sauce, the perfect level of spice and numbing heat -- it was everything!! We ordered the wood ear salad, hot and sour soup, silken tofu with shrimp and roe, and sweet and sour pork. We did have to order two bowls of rice since they don't provide complimentary rice, which was a bit disappointing, but the food more than made up for it. The wood ear salad had a delightful tangy, slightly mala chili oil on it which made it a great appetizer. The hot and sour soup had a good amount of ingredients and kick to it. The pork's balance of sweet and sour was well done, and the meat had a good fry to it. I heard that a relatively authentic chinese restaurant opened in DTLA and had to try it out. Lo and behold it's located in ROW DTLA. I went for lunch with a group of friends to try as many dishes as we could. One of us made a reservation beforehand but it doesn't look like wait times would be too long either. We got soup dumplings, chocolate dumplings, a crispy chili chicken, beef noodle soup, house special fried rice, salted egg yolk corn, wasabi shrimp bites, and yunan style grilled whole branzino. The two instant standouts for me were the yunan style grilled branzino and house special fried rice. The branzino was moist and seasoned very well, which paired along with the fried rice containing what tasted like minced dried scallop bits. The beef noodle soup and crispy chili chicken didn't skimp out on the heat and gave a nice tingle. Overall, a surprisngly good chinese meal. I would consider it relatively authentic and comparable to the average chinese restaurant you would find in SGV. The salted egg yolk corn was a bit on the sweet side for some of the group, but reminded me of Irvin's salted egg potato chips so I was digging it. I loved the dry-fried string beans - crowd favorite at our table. The spicy wontons in chili oil hit to spot, too. The least favorite for our group was the dan dan noodles - but that's not to say we didn't enjoy them. We just liked everything else so much more. It was a great mix of flavors and textures. Unfortunately as someone from SGV I must report that this place is mid. SGV menu items with LA prices and worse than LA quality. They get points for a beautiful interior and good service, but their location is inconvenient and difficult to locate if you're unfamiliar with The Row DTLA (which has a separate parking structure). I parked my car on the street and was walking around the perimeter trying to find this spot for an embarrassingly long time. All the menu items are things you could get at Mama Lu's or Din Tai Fung but at a fourth of the authentic quality. Food was delicious. Was not expecting much but portions were good and the flavors were great. Had chongqing chicken at a lot of places but damn they do it good here.
