We Love all their hand rolls and their blue crab and avocado hand roll is my favorite on the menu. We love the yellowtail rolls. Also try one of their sushi plates. You get a great selection. Parking can be a pain but you will be okay. The prices are fair and the service is just great. The staff takes good care of you and will tell you of any specials they have. They have some Happy Hour specials that are just great. The place is comfortable and ever so clean. It is just really pretty. Their salads are also yummy. We reserved a table for a party of 6 on a quiet Tuesday afternoon for a quick birthday lunch. Our server was kind and attentive and the food came fairly quickly. Citron Roll: 5/5 Stuffed with spicy tuna and topped with seared albacore, lemon, and serrano peppers, the acidity of the lemon brought a refreshing twist to the roll by cutting through the richness of the fish. Pacific Roll: 5/5 Topped with sliced jalapeno and Yellowtail, the Pacific roll has a unique filling of Yellowtail, cucumber, and cilantro. It came with a side of miso soup as well as some sunomono and salad mix for $22.00. This is a perfect lunch option as the portion sizes are great for the price and you get to try a variety of different foods. The nigiri was fresh and you can taste the quality of the fish from its tenderness. As for the other items, the gyoza was super crispy and the vegetable curry was so flavorful with a slight aromatic kick of spice. In addition to the reasonable prices, the incredible service and excellent sushi quality makes Kombu stand out from other sushi spots in the Arts District. Entrees: Pacific roll and Citron roll: 5/5- my daughters liked the ponzu sauce on them so much they hardly needed any wasabi or soy sauce. The citron roll was very lemony. Not only do I love Kombu's sushi, I love Nabor, our server, even more. I walked out of 95 degree heat the other day and realized, when I sat down, that I was so dizzy! Nabor was ON IT. He brought me a big glass of ice water but, even better, a tall glass of cold lemonade. Then my daughter and I had a delicious lunch while he -- the sweetheart that he is -- took great care of us. The story of the restaurant is super sweet, they are dog-friendly, and they have soooo many options on their menu, including lots of vegetarian options and accommodations for gluten-free needs. I started off with the spicy tuna on crispy rice and it was tasty, but I like it when the rice is hot. At this place, the rice was not hot. I also had the cucumber salad, which is quite tasty. We were on our E Bikes and there were lots of outlets out in the patio area of the building itself. But for some reason, none of them were working and we couldn't charge our bikes. Thank goodness that the staff at the restaurant were nice and we managed to get electricity from them. I hope the building Gets the information that will help people so they can charge their Ebikes when needed. The happy hour starts at 3pm. They are very veg and gluten free friendly. They even have a plant-based spicy tuna roll which is made with beets and tasted great! The mushroom soup is very mushroom-y, the miso soup os served at the perfect temperature and comes out before the main meal. Drinks were strong. However, after my dog ate the salmon dish from the dog menu here, he has been suffering from diarrhea for two days. He vomited after we got home, and now he is experiencing bloody diarrhea. I came for a casual dinner with the bf on a week night. It was our first time here so our friendly server recommended the Chef's Tasting Menu so we can to try more dishes. This consisted of four courses and a drink for each person. The miso soup was great. I was not a big fan of the mushroom soup; it is an acquired taste. Definitely gave me flashbacks of my childhood when my grandparents made me drink herbal medicine when I got sick. As for the rolls, we liked them but they were overly drenched in sauce which made each bite very salty. I would definitely ask for light or no sauce next time. Here are my food ratings: Citron Roll, 10/10 - The owner and server both told us this was one of their most popular rolls so we ordered it and it wow'd the both of us. Honestly I just love anything with both a little bit of spice and citrus. Salmon avocado roll, 8/10 - good quality! (I dipped it into the sauce from the citron roll a couple times... 10/10) Philadelphia roll, 8/10 - my friend's favorite type of roll. Yum! Spicy Garlic Edamame, 9/10 - waited all day to have some of this garlic edamame. Delicious! The service was excellent.
