Prior to staying over in this town I did some searching and found good reviews for the Pine Grill Restaurant. We also had a recommendation from a local that this restaurant was the place to come. We arrived and servers walked past and no one seated us. We were finally seated and told someone would be with us shortly. After 5 minutes of other people being seated and drinks being ordered we still had yet to see our server. I had to ask a young man to get our server. He finally after seating 3 other couples came and took our drink order to tell us someone would come take our order. So five minutes later I was tired of watching 10 servers standing around and no one serving us. I walked up and asked for the manager of the restaurant. The young man who took our drink order told us frankly they didn't have a manager in the building. We left at this point. Another patron asked if the service was bad as what he saw us treated. Mark is a great host and the food is always awesome. Get off the turnpike and eat there. Stay away from the corporate restaurants.

Location location location, Western Pennsylvania hospitality, and specials you'll want to come back for. Obscure beer menu, too. Nice.

We stopped here for lunch instead of a rest stop. I had the blackened chicken sandwich, my wife the Turkey Reuben and my daughter the chicken wrap. We also had the split pea soup. All the food was fresh and tasty. Prices were reasonable and service good. read more

What a great surprise! We were uncertain whether we would find many vegetarian and healthy vegan options at this Italian restaurant in Somerset Pennsylvania, but our uncertainty was unfounded. From the grain bowl to the whole wheat pasta, we were very pleased with the flavor, portions, and service here. The bread was tasty, and the portions of salads and other healthy items did not leave us wanting. And our kids gave the Italian wedding soup four and a half stars. First let me clarify. I am giving this 5 stars for what it is. A nice local restaurant with great service and good food. My wife and I were traveling east and decided to stop on Somerset for the evening. The hotel recommended the restaurant. We ordered the pork chop, grilled chicken and Pierogi on the side just to taste. Serving sizes were very large. 10 ounces of chicken. Probably 15 ounces for the pork chop. The chicken was fine. The pork chop was excellent. A smoked flavor that was outstanding. Sides of steamed vegetables and sautéed mushrooms were large and the mushrooms were great. The pierogi were terrific with grilled onions. Actually my favorite. Beer and wine selection are very limited but there was enough there to get rid of the travel cobwebs. Service was friendly. I've been coming here for years. Back in the 60's,our family always stopped on our way back to DC after a weekend of skiing and since moving to this area, I've been here sporadically. Lately, they've really seemed to step up their game. All at our table had the daily specials, Peruvian chicken, Flounder, smothered Pork Chop and Hangar Steak. All were delicious. Let me start by saying I would give the servers a five star but that is it. Used to eat here multiple times per week. Will never return. As other reviewers have guessed, yes, Virginia! There is a kickback system with local hotels. As matter of fact one hotel manager is at the bar drinking as much as he is at his nearby business. And also CORRECT guess in other reviews- owner is the guy that loudly greets and checks on tables ...but only if you're a local and he likes you. If he doesn't recognize you believe me he doesn't give a crap. He has a cash cow right at turnpike surrounded by hotels. I don't know what's going on in the kitchen but I have been sickened after eating here MULTIPLE times. Either they are using a cheap Oleen or synthetic butter substitute for cooking or lying about it ?!! I have tried multiple dishes and made special dietary requests but it doesn't change or help. The place has been around for years and years. It isn't fancy, but the food is good, service friendly. Somerset County is very laid back, calm, friendly people. If you are in a rush, looking for a quick bite to eat, go get fast food. The Pine Grill is a good place for a quiet lunch, after church dinner. Our family stopped here for a late dinner, while traveling through. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The food was reasonably priced with good portion sizes. It was a much nicer meal than we would normally get on the road. I was pleased with the selection, I have to eat a gluten free diet and I was giddy the menu had items labeled gluten free. We all ate seafood items, each one was well prepared, however the FRIES that came with my sons shrimp wrap had the family fighting over the last one! I saw the billboard for Pine Grill on the highway, and immediately rerouted my GPS for a quick snack. Initially, the staff told me I wasn't hungry, which hurt my feelings. Also, there was a pine cone next to my table, gross! In terms of my food, the ratio of squiggly to unsquiggly in my calamari was way off, but my burger tasted better than it look! Need more chicken. I live in Somerset and have come from living in Wash. D. C., so you know I know good food. I have eaten at the Pine Grill many many times. Most food is cooked consistently, on orders I had previously had. The new selections prove to be just as tasty. Sure they have their own little twist on things as all good eateries should have. Best soups I've had in a long time. I always take out of town guests here and they all agree it is a good meal in a relaxing atmosphere. The owner is present and personable and if you would, by any chance, not like what you have, all you have to do is say so. Then you can have a pleasant trip. I personally have never had to do this, but I know it would be no problem. So for the next people who read this review, please go and have a meal. You can not go wrong. Three words: Blackened Chicken Pasta!!! Oh man, that dish was by far the best pasta dish I have ever had. Their spinach dip, also amazing. I have tried many dishes from here, and all of them have surpassed my expectations. I also really like that they offer 1/2 sized portions for 1/2 the price; I don't eat very much, and even a half sized portion was too much for me, so it was nice to save the extra money and still have leftovers. I would absolutely recommend The Pine Grill to anyone, and it is right off of the turnpike, so it is a good place to stop off for lunch or dinner and then get right back on the road! read more

A small town bar and grill that is slightly (very slightly) upper class for a bar and grill. Listen, I wish I could leave a 5 star here. Pine grill has been around since I was born. Used to be one of my favorite places. 3 years ago, I would have given it a 5 star. But lately the food has been... subpar. This is my opinion. When Ruby Tuesday is just down the street and servers good food at prices equal to yours... you have to stick to what works. They used to have one of my FAVORITE steaks. Went here for the first time tonight. Ordered spinach and artichoke dip for the appetizer which was not very good, portion size was too large and it was served with deep fried pita bread. Salad was simply a plate of lettuce with 2 slices of cucumber and a grape tomato added. New York strip was very good, and cooked well, side was a baked potato. Server was friendly, but service was slow and the server made several comments about how busy it was even though multiple tables were open, I might go again if I'm in the mood for a steak as the area doesn't offer much selection. read more

The worst service ever in somerset I ordered a BLT with bread and soft bacon it came out it was all very hard i took one bite and I couldn't chew it at all the soda was all carbonated no taste but the carbonation sent BLT back they wanted to replace with a grilled cheese they still charged me for the sandwitch they are ignorant and rude and really expensive I will never go here again. read more

In town for 3 nights for a weekend college class with ACM. One of the others in the class recommended the place (biased because she works there as well) so we tried it out after the Saturday's class was done. Glad we did. Not a fancy place, just a normal, friendly atmosphere. Had some of the best seafood alfredo in a while and I've had alot, including making my own at home. Nice combination of shrimp, scallops and crab. The chicken club sandwich was nice as well. Kind of hard to mess up a club but it was a full sandwich, good flavor and plenty to serve as a leftover for breakfast today! LOL. I'd say give it a try, you will like it. read more

Horrible!!! Food is cheap and frozen. Staff is friendly, but no training in food service what so ever. God forbid you order anything other than a bottle beer or rum and coke. Kitchen staff can't cook a steak. Salad was all lettuce with a tomato and one mushroom. You can tell the owner buys the cheapest food possible. Ive eaten better steak at golden corral. My family of 5 were in town overnight and went to Pine Grill for dinner. Everything we had was delicious, and they substituted easily for my daughter's food sensitivities. My 17 year old son said he'd come thru here just for the Black N Bleu burger. The waitress was delightful and accommodating, and the people of Somerset were so nice. My youngest ran into a glass door while trying to open it for someone, with a resounding thud. A table of friendly regulars bought him a skillet cookie. Delish! Came to the area to see the Flight 93 memorial, and went for dinner on a Friday night. Despite being very busy I was seated quickly. Friendly service, above average food. The chicken parm dinner was excellent, cooked perfectly, and a delicious steal for $12 for a huge portion. But, chili was watery and bland and a ripoff at $5 for a small bowl. read more
