I'm still a member with PRV and I still love the phenomenal Cabernet Sauvignon that they produce. I'm reducing their 5 star to a 3 star review due to my latest visit to the winery. Jose, the person who checked us in for a wine tour was really rude. We arrived early and he was nice to offer us a starter tasting with the Chardonnay. When we asked for something different instead, he immediately said no in a rude tone and didn't stop to reconsider his decision. By far one of the most memorable wineries we went to on our first Napa trip! We stayed at SENZA Hotel and this was one of the wineries they have a partnership with. This meant complimentary tastings with our stay! Our wine tasting host, Jon, was nothing short of amazing. Funny, welcoming, and took all of our banter/jokes with ease. He was so easy to get along with and bonus was he even took us to the wine cave and showed us a short tour. He did not have to do that and definitely went out of his way to do this for us and our small party. We HAD TO grab a wine and leave a nice tip for the impeccable service and experience we had with him. I am so glad we mistakened Stags Leap Winery for Stags Leap Wine Cellars and ended up at this place instead. I love serendipitous moments and we would not have gone to this place had it not been for my mistake. Will definitely be back here again the next time we're in Napa! read more

Four and a half stars We tried to get a reservation for the cave tour but they were booked, I'd probably call this a solid 5 stars if we were able to have that experience. As it was this place is a stellar 4.5 in my book. We opted for the outdoor seating to enjoy the beautiful weather, it's unseasonably cooler this year than average at 80 degrees we were in luck compared to the usual 100+. Jose our sommelier was genius. He was personable and knowledgeable and sassy and funny. Their wines are delicious. Full bodied. Yum If you join their wine club they will waive the tastings fee of $45 for up to 4, we did that and took home our first shipment of 3 bottles. Highly recommended!!! read more

Went for a tasting at Pine Ridge Vineyards on Wednesday afternoon. A little pricey, but the wines are worth paying a bit extra. And if you can, absolutely take time to visit the caves. Quality: Pine Ridge Vineyards provided some of my favorite wines during my recent trip to northern California. The challenge however is to find the right balance with the prices. An Estate Tasting was a great way to get a sense of the wines without feeling like I invested too much into a drink I simply don't have enough experience to appreciate fully. The Estate Tasting came with a 2016 Napa Valley Merlot, 2017 Malbec, 2016 Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon, 2016 Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon, and 2014 Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon. We also got small samples of a petit verdot and a sauvignon blanc. My favorites were the petit verdot and the 2014 Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon, but honestly I could not justify buying a bottle of either. Quantity: Generous tasting pours and a willingness to showcase more than just the wines on the list. Value: $45 for an Estate Tasting. Ambiance: Pine Ridge Vineyards is located in the Stags Leap area of Napa. Located on a hill, the property has a simple elegance in its appearance. Outside they have a small patio area, which would be lovely on a warm day. Unfortunately it was cold and rainy, so we made our way indoors. The tasting room follows suit in design with a simplicity, but also a sophistication. From the tasting room you get a peek of the remarkable caves used to age their wines. We were lucky to take a quick stroll through the caves, which are lined with barrels and have strung up Christmas lights to guide you through. Getting to see the private tasting area and lounge, truly made it a memorable experience. Crowd: A small crowd gathered in the tasting room, but there were also a good number of members in the exclusive lounge. The higher prices definitely impact the amount of visitors. Service: Excellent. The woman who led us through our tasting was simply fantastic. Extremely knowledgable, very friendly, and excited about the different wines. She also noticed our interest in the caves and was happy to lead us through a quick tour. Parking: Private paved parking lot in front of the tasting room. read more

Fantastic wine, exceptional staff members! My friend and I visited Pine Ridge during Napa's "COVID-19 re-open" phase to enjoy a special trip out of the house. Pine Ridge provided a seamless experience and we had a wonderful time. We scheduled a late tasting to wrap-up our day visiting other wineries. The reservation process was very convenient and easy to use. Although I did call ahead to learn about their property's COVID-19 precautions and protocols (thank you Stacy Dorritto for your kind assistance with my inquiry!) I made an account with a popular scheduling platform, Tock, to schedule my reservation at Pine Ridge. This was especially helpful because I had the option to modify my reservation (myself) when needed. We tried the standard Estate Tasting and enjoyed our wine out on the patio. The entire experience was required to be outdoors and although we would have loved to see more of the inside of this beautiful place, we enjoyed their comfortable patio area very much. All staff were very welcoming, kind, and knowledgable about their products and process. We learned a lot about wine during our visit! Due to the COVID-19 limitations, our tasting was scheduled for a true 45-60 minute slot since ample time to sanitize and limit the number of guests on the property is necessary between reservation slots. This winery is amazing. My experience here was the best. I came here to celebrate my birthday and they made it so welcoming and a personal experience. I did the cave tour. Our host Diego was super knowledgeable and one of the best host's my whole Napa weekend. The people in my tour group were some of the nicest and down to earth people. The wine here was great they have a good variety including whites. The cave was such a great experience to see. It was a little chilly so bring a jacket or sweater. I came in the winter so it was colder then normal, maybe in the summer it would feel nice and cool. Pine Ridge has always produced some of my favorite wines, and no trip to Napa would be complete without a stop here for me. But I will say, tasting have gone up in price. We did have a lovely time and the hostess helping us out was very friendly and helpful. We popped for the reserve tasting, getting into some of the pricier wines, but that also makes a considerable dent in the wallet. The room itself is lovely, but I do wish the rules were relaxed so we could picnic a bit with the wines, instead of having to taste and then going somewhere else to have a little bite. Loved getting my "knees dirty" with Jeff Butler, the Assistant Tasting Room Mgr (ATRM). He is so interesting and full of passion, key to being successful in any chosen field, that I am now promoting him to Tasting Room Mgr. or TRM, how bout them apples Jeff!. A few things I liked about the 1 hour plus visit. * a very short walk outside the building is a set of vineyards with several varietals. One can see, touch, sniff and eat the various grapes (see pic) right there & I feel that is a great starting point. More winery tours should be set up as this one is.* there are 2 types of tours, the wine tasting and the Cave Tour. Since I was by myself I did the tasting, but going back if I find someone, hmmm wonder who I could take, and do the cave tour as the latter has so many other visuals & experiences. Next review will talk about that. * Sitting outside on the terrace and doing a small pairing & tasting & meeting new friends, was a time to savor. Now the tasting I experienced was with the 2015 Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon, & yes the "experts" scored it above the "Mendoza Line" (baseball term so look it up) and this was WAAAY above the Mendoza line. This is not a .215 BA in baseball but is in the upper reaches of vino terminology. Not sure how you polish tannins but I think this one did. Great finish & this was paired with the Saenkanter Gouda/ great choices the team made. We moved in to another winner wine but when Jeff turned his back I poured a tad more of the 2015 Oakville into my glass but I think he caught me. He did not say anything as that would have embarrassed this 'ol man . * Next class lesson was with the 2013 Stag's Leap district cab. This cab caught my attention. Love dark, fruit flavor and aroma notes and this lovely lady has her act together. As other reviews have stated there is a pick up of even black licorice, better than what I ate at the movie theater as a little boy, I loved how this silky lady had also a touch of sweetness, vanilla, and yes even other notes I struggled to get a definition of. If she were a living person I would take her on a date immediately as I prefer tannin, but also smooth and layered. Awesome, & way above the Mendoza line/this was paired with a St. ANDRE triple creme cow's milk cheese from Normandy France. This was a great marriage together *The final tasting was the 2015 Howell Mountain cab. Many years ago I started skiing at Alta, Utah, and this wine is from Alta (not Utah) as it is almost 2 000' up there in Howell Mtn. These roots have to really work there and the effort they put into it shows off in the finished product. Nice oak and it has a phenomenal body build, this wine I love as it stayed in the gym longer because of the altitude or really the Vineyard I should say. This was paired with a Tomme de Pyrnees, Ai Poivre Vert from Basque France * Basque area of France and Spain are people and land that deliver killer foods, complex and many nuances, never had this milk cheese. *Phenomenal pairings across the board. When I head down to Austin I am going to take the Howell Mtn. 2015, open it when I get my order from Franklin's BBQ for the best brisket anywhere, & drink it with the Howell and make people wonder what the smell/flavors are that they are taking in, is it brisket they are smelling, or is it Cab or is it something mysterious. Nothing mysterious about the tasting and pairing, the team did a great job pulling this together. Now I will return again for the Caves tour and maybe snag a dinner in the caves if they have an event. Thie was truly Gioia de Tavola or Joy of the Table. This is our 2nd trip to Napa Valley and our friend recommended we stop by Pine Ridge if we had the chance. Glad we did! Walked in without an appointment at 3:30 (Wednesday) and were immediately welcomed with open arms! Great hospitality and the wine is on point! My wife and I love Cabernet Sauvignon and primarily drink reds. If this I what you like, you will not be disappointed. Tor was our guide at the tasting bar and his knowledge and patience was 5 star! He took his time going over the different regions that each wine covered and made our tasting experience delightful. Their wines are on the higher end of the price range but definitely delivered an amazing, flavorful wine for even the most refined palate! We joined their wine club and the tasting fee was waived. We had such a great experience and loved their wines so much we are going back on Saturday for another free tasting and tour. Pine Ridge Vineyards is a first class operation that actually cares about their members. One member walked in shortly after closing for a quick tasting and they gladly accommodated his request. It was an in-depth winery tour begins at Pine Ridge estate vineyards, proceeding through our wine production facilities and continues into our wine caves for an exclusive barrel sample. The tour concludes in our caves with a hosted, seated wine and cheese pairing. We drank at least 7,8 wines, include their most expensive wine Fortis ($150 per bottle). For $50 per person. Tours commence daily at 10:00 am, 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm and last approximately 90 minutes. Each tour is limited to 8 people. Reservations are required. Our tour was 6 people, and we had a blast with our tour guide Jackie. She was kind and cool, and her love for wines shine through her voice and personality. The service surely 100 times better than our last visit. My 2 girlfriends enjoyed the visit tremendously and we all bought a bunch of wines to bring back this time. We enjoyed the beautiful Dale Chihuly glass art works, the story behind that famous wall in the back. The cheese, nut, cracker selection was really nice and paired nicely with all the wines we tasted. We love the barrel tasting as well, that was a lot of fun. These people love wine and love to share their knowledge and love with you. It's a beautiful location with a picnic area and an outdoor patio where you are welcome to take your tasting with you. Wonderful wine as well and they were having a great buy 1 get 1 free on their Chards when we were there, which makes it even better! There is a fee for tasting, $20. We are Napa regulars... having gone 4 of the last 5 years. We've done many private tastings but the 5x5 private paring at Pine Ridge is as good as it gets!!! The grounds were beautiful. The caves were breathtaking. And after the 60 minute tour, we settled in a stunning tasting room (see pictures). Once there, we had one of the better tastings I've ever had, tasting some of the greats like the Fortis and Epitome... not to mention each and every wine was accompanied by the perfect bite. This is definitely one of those spots you come to towards the end of your wine tasting day because the estate is gorgeous and the outside tasting area (when not in use by private tasting events) is extremely relaxing and enjoyable! The tasting can be a little steep but if you come with a group you can share and they're fairly ok with the pours. The staff is very knowledgable and friendly although I think a few of their wines are deserving of a mention - not all. I do like their chardonnays but was told it is not "buttery" that I am tasting but a texture. It's weird to be not just "suggested" that it is not buttery but straight up told I am wrong. While thoroughly scenic, (what part of Napa Valley isn't??), I wasn't really moved by Pine Ridge Vineyards. For every pro, there was a con. The tasting room was clean and modern, but the layout didn't really lend itself well to groups. The parking lot was tight, but we managed just fine. The wines were good, if you don't mind blends, but really overpriced for what I thought of it ($40-65/bottle). They had some sort of deal, though I don't recall the specifics; if you buy a bottle or two, they'll discount one tasting ($20), but it wasn't worth it. Basically, I wouldn't recommend making the trip just to see this place, but if you are in the neighborhood, it definitely won't hurt to stop by and check it out! Bonus tip: If you like taking photographs, there's much better lighting in the morning than in the afternoons. PS - I really don't understand why people would bring their children here!! Pine Ridge has some of the best wine that we tasted in Napa, and is featured on the cover of Wine Enthusiast this month, yet everyone is super nice and not at all pretentious. After our visits to Opus One and Cakebread, for which we did make reservations, we had some extra time and wanted to squeeze in another winery. We stopped by Stags Leap where they were totally rude to us for showing up without reservations, like we had offended them. So, we looked what else was near and gave Pine Ridge a call. They said that while they require reservations, they would take care of us, no problem. We arrived 10 minutes later, and take care of us they did. We did the tasting ($35 each) and everything was so good that... we joined the wine club (like we need another one!). The club requires a one year minimum and we had to take the May shipment with us... but we got our tasting waived! It was a fun environment to taste wine in; the woman pouring was knowledgeable and friendly and not stingy (she gave us a few extra pours), and didn't hard sell the wine club.. we made that decision all on our own. They have those long breadsticks to munch on while you taste so you don't get too tipsy (not sure how much it helped though, ha!). Our second stop of our wine tasting adventure was at Pine Ridge Vineyards right off the Silverado Trail. The winery grounds are beautiful. The path leading up to the tasting room is line with several fig and persimmons trees. The tasting room consists of an L-shaped counter and circular counter. We stepped to the counter and was served by Dave, who was funny and entertaining host. Before we started our Estate Tasting flight, Dave started us off by pouring a Chenin Blanc-Viognier. Then we proceeded with the tastings of two Chardonnays, a Tessitura Merlot, and two Cabernets. Then as a sweet finish, Dave pour a Black Diamond Port, which was a delicious cabernet port. Dave had it sold to us. After our tasting we walked and checked out more of the beautiful grounds. It was nice tasting experience. read more

My brother and I took our mom to a few wineries for her 50th birthday. I found Pine Ridge after researching online, and I was thrilled with the experience. I booked our reservation a few weeks in advance online. Super easy. Staff was wonderful. Fun and knowledgeable, and made the experience that much better. The outdoor seating area is beautiful. Music played in the background..very relaxing. We received five pre-poured wines which were fantastic. All the pours were great, but their final cab is truly *chef's kiss* delish. My mom knows a lot about wine and has been to many nice wineries - so I was a little nervous about finding one that was up to her standards..but this was perfect. This place is something else. My wife and I were visiting Napa with our families for her Birthday and her uncle managed to hook us up with a very special tasting experience here at Pine Ridge. We went on Sunday and it was raining outside. Once inside we were greeted by an elegant tasting room and friendly hostesses. We learned that there was a $20 tasting and a $40 tasting, and the latter might be the equivalent of what we got, but I'm not sure since it was free. We were assigned a hostess for our group and she took us outside. Pine Ridge is stationed right along the side of some large hills and some of their vines are grown right on the steep hillside. Outside, there is sort of a courtyard amidst some flat vines right in front of the hills and a gazebo in the middle. We walked there and started listening to some of the philosophy of the winery and why they build on the hills. They focus on quality instead of quantity because they don't have much flat land to grow their grapes and, thus, not many grapes to bottle. At some point it got too cold and wet under the gazebo, so we walked over to the cellar entrance and went inside. Inside we were told about the chardonnay that was barreled in the refrigerated room we were standing in. We got to try the chardonnay and it was quite enjoyable (on the oakey side as we like it, but not overwhelmingly). We were then escorted into the caves that are built into the side of the hill where all of the red wines are stored. It's a maze of long tunnels, dimly lit, and lined with lots and lots of barrels. We pulled to the left along one tunnel where we learned about the Cab grapes and their bottling process. We then got to try a wine in a barrel that was a few months away from bottling. It was cool and interesting. We returned to the main tunnel and proceeded further in. All the way at the far end was a lit room with a chandelier and a large circular table for private tasting. Behind it was some glass art that was illuminated from behind. The whole room opened up into a larger feel and we felt very privileged for getting to see all of this neat stuff. Here, we tasted 3 of the Cabs that were available and were given an assortment of cheeses, crackers, California almonds, and dried fruit to enjoy with our wines. We sat around and talked and asked questions and learned more as we tasted our wines. When we finished we thought that was it for the tasting tour (which would have been fine since we had a glass of chardonnay, the barrel tasting, and 3 more cabs), but we made our way out of the caves and back into the tasting room where we were stationed at a private bar and began tasting a bunch more wines. Like at least another 5 or 6 types. It was quite overwhelming. Summary: I can't say what a normal tasting is compared to what we experienced because of our special access, but what we experienced was awesome and the wines were really good. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly and poured lots of wine. If you can go see the caves and do the special tour, I highly recommend it. It'd be worth the money. read more

We got here at 10 am and we were the first and only group booked for the wine cave tour. It was awesome! Our tour guide was Jeff and he was very enthusiastic and informative. The tour started with a pouring of rose for everyone, before Jeff began giving us Pine Ridge's history and background. And then we proceeded to go around the property. First stop was the demonstration vineyards, where we would get a little viniculture lesson and the different kinds of grapes/wines that Pine Ridge makes. Then we were off to the Chardonnay cellar and the rest of the cave storage system they have inside the cavern. At each stop, we would learn a bit more about Pine Ridge and Napa valley, it was all very cool to see where they produce the wine. At each stop we would get a little bit more wine, our glasses were never empty for very long. We sampled quite a few different wines and there was also a food pairing later on deep in the cave. Their chef hand selects some cheeses to be paired with the wines. It was all very well done. I'm for sure going back next time i'm in Napa. Next time I will try to book their private 5 by 5 wine and food tasting courses for small groups that they do once a day. I was that impressed by their other small tasting that was part of their tour. Terry was AMAZING! Brought our son and girlfriend who are visiting for Spring Break out for their first wine tasting. Terry did a great job explaining the areas history, how wines are made, the different AVAs and so much more. We all enjoyed it so much and learned a lot. And the wines were amazing!! A great place for first timers and seasoned tasters as well. Unfortunately she has made my son a wine snob...like his mom he likes the $$$ ones but they are soooo good. I don't like writing negative reviews, but I do not recommend Pine Ridge. Pine Ridge, please invest in your people. The blonde hostess is rude. Our waitress was kind but did not know much about the wines we were drinking and had to go ask other staff the answers to relatively simple questions. We've only been here once for a tasting and would highly recommend NOT spending any time or money here. Their wine was average for this price range. Out of all of the wineries in the Napa area, this one is easily skippable. Do not recommend. Check out Patland, White Rock, or Hendry instead. Everyone at those wineries are kind and not stuck-up. Basic customer service goes a long way. read more

We've sampled these wines from time to time in restaurants and wanted to experience more. We were very happy after choosing to drop by for a tour & tasting. The entire portfolio is gorgeous. We knew the reds would be great, but we were surprised at how delish their whites were. The winery, barrel room and tasting areas are comfortable, well taken care of and the service is outstanding. I tasted reds from Pine Ridge on a private event and decided to explore with my friend last weekend. We were greeted by Dave. The senior, generous, and knowledgeable gentleman is the key enabler of our five star experience. He knows what we are looking for, and can go as deep as you can/want about the wines. Without Dave this review would have concluded as a 4-star one. We only do reds for visits like this. We tried Oakville, Stags Leap, Howell Mountains, and the flagship red FORTIS (2014). I tried 2013 FORTIS which earned 98 points from RP. I would say 2014 upkeeps it's reputation. I am impressed with the complexities in this 100% cab created by different appellations. It's a must-try if you like some delicate change-up in upscale cabs. I also like Howell Mountains the best among the rest. It reminds me of Sterling's Diamond Mountain Ranch cabs in the early days. I will not bring home any Oakville for the member shipments I signed up. Though their price is a bit steep without membership, this winery is worth visiting. read more

For those who love full-bodied yet fruity Cabernets, this winery is for you! What an amazing experience! My mom and I had never been before and loved the winery! The cave is so cool and tasting area/ room in the cave was great. Only down side was no food (nuts and cruMcGuire bread sticks). Shout out to Melissa who was so knowledgeable about their wines, the process and Napa Valley in general. Highly recommend! read more

I've had some really great Pine Ridge wines in the past, at restaurants and the like but when we visited I was not impressed by anything on the tasting menu. In addition the winery was ridiculously crowded and loud. Did not make for a pleasant experience at all. I can't say I'll be back. read more
