Great biscuits but they don't have real butter even though they think they do. If you know you know. They got really pissy with me when I asked if it was real and said it was. In my experience when a restaurant calls their butter "whipped butter", it is usually half real and half fake or totally fake which is why I asked. This breakfast spot never disappoints! The service is always fast as soon as you order. Tables open up quick so sitting is never a problem. The reggie deluxe with some extra gravy on the side is what i ordered. The half mushroom gravy and sausage gravy gives the biscuits great flavors. Hash browns also came out crispy which i enjoyed. I got the hash browns with all the stuff on it including an egg, my daughter got the blueberry cornmeal pancake, and my husband got the biscuits and mushroom gravy. This is my first time trying proper "American biscuits". I've always thought an American biscuit looked like a British scone, except, one is savoury, and the other is sweet. We ordered The Reggie, and the McIsley. Both came with fried chicken. The Reggie had two sauces which were so interesting - a mushroom sauce, and a sausage sauce. I think the fried chicken was too heavy for me at 11am but needed to try since we were on holiday! The biscuit itself was lovely. We sat in front of the kitchen window and I saw them make every batch to perfection. It does have a little same "base" as to a scone - buttery, really light and fluffy. It was nice. I enjoyed that. I think this would have been better as a brunch meal as it is really heavy for someone like me not used to eating so much, haha! They do however, take their time to really craft you a really good looking biscuit meal on a plate. I went on a weekend and it was packed - but waiting times were about 10 mins which was fair. It's been a while since I've gone so I guess I better review! First, not a ton of parking in the area, just street parKing nearby. When you first walk in, you stand in line to order from the register. There will be menus to grab and decide by the time you get up there. Next, you grab a seat while you wait for your food to be brought out. There are tables and some counter seating as well. The menu is mostly amazing biscuit sandwiches. The ambience of this restaurant is fun, vibrant, and has a lot of nature light. The menu is quite large and diverse. I ordered the McIsley sandwich which has pickles, mustard, honey, and chicken. This sandwich was huge and covered in the topping. If you don't mind your hands getting dirty you can pick it up and eat away or they have a self serving utensils area. The chicken was cooked to perfection - juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside. The honey and mustard combination complemented each other nicely and was not too over powering. One of the worst dining experiences I've had in a long time. We had four people, ordered a couple Money Balls (biscuits and gravy with egg) for the girls, and ordered a couple chicken fried steaks for the guys. They bring out the Money Balls and take the number for the table. We sit there for about 20 minutes thinking maybe those items take longer. Eventually we ask, and find out they forgot our order. The chicken fried steaks are the worse I've had at any place. It was cold, tough, and soggy. It was so inedible I couldn't even take more than a few bites. And now I'm sick to my stomach. The portion consistency is also atrocious. The portions sizes seem to be on the smaller side anyway, but between the two chicken fried steaks one was half the size of the other. Smaller than the diameter of one of the biscuits. Not only that, but their utensils are not clean. One of the girls found food stuck to the spoon in her coffee. And I'm talking about half the spoon. A lot of food, not just a little spec. There were no knives to cut the rock hard chicken. On top of that the attitude of the staff was just off. When the girls food was brought the food was just slammed on the table. My wife has been to the Oregon location and it was a good experience. They have never disappointed! I have tried many of their biscuit sandwiches and they are all super yummy. My favorite is the McIsley - honey mustard fried chicken with pickles mmm!!! They have breakfast and lunch items but they do close early (2:00) so watch out for that, and they usually have a line at least on weekends so be prepared to wait but I've never had a problem with getting a table. They have homemade poptarts and cinnamon rolls which you should definitely try. They also have mimosas and some different beers. read more

At a coworker's suggestion, I had stored Pine State as a bookmark. When it came down to thanking her for helping during my training period, I thought treating her to lunch was a no brainer. I went with the Veggie Reggie: a meatless patty, bacon, cheese, a smothering of the mushroom gravy sandwiched in a Pine State biscuit. A side of hash browns and fried green tomatoes turned this into a full meal. I felt the patty had a spongy texture that was slightly off-putting, but leftovers in the air fryer quickly resolved that issue. The bacon was a lovely addition, but I couldn't get enough of that mushroom gravy. The fried green tomatoes were perfectly breaded in a cornmeal crust and an order was a generous five slices. Hash browns were perfectly cooked and survived the short ride across the river. On to dessert. It was a bit unexpected that a biscuit sandwich place would excel in the sweets department. The biscuit beignets were lovely poppable bites of deliciousness. The housemade bourbon caramel sauce was out of this world. The cinnamon caramel bun was addictive. I'm not even a big fan of sticky buns, but the doughy bun with that insane caramel- I was hooked. And then there was the caramel apple pop tart- let me preface this by saying that I am not a fan of apples, especially cooked apples. This very well could have been my favorite thing. Again, that caramel sauce to the rescue. Crowded during lunch, but that should be a surprise to no one. Street parking was pretty plentiful. Had a bit of a line when we first got there but worth it. Small establishment that has you order before you sit. We sat outside with our larger group. They have brunch cocktails to enjoy and diverse menu including lunch options. My eyes were bigger then my tummy and I ordered way too much but glad I did because I got to try the biscuits and gravy and hash browns. I recommend splitting the gravy and doing half mushroom and half sausage. The rest of our party all enjoyed their meals. It was my friends first time there and he most definitely enjoyed his time. It said the food was "fire". We both got the Reggie deluxe, so delicious, and he ordered the smothered Cajun fries. This place has such a unique concept and am so pleased we found it when we were in Reno Biscuits are so delish with a large variety of toppings are offered. I chose pimento & cheese as I hadn't had that in years. My sidekick (HB) has biscuits with sausage gravy and added eggs. Service was excellent with super friendly staff. Our meals came rather quickly and we enjoyed some truly awesome coffee from their coffee bar. I thought that was a great concept so people can serve themselves instead of relying on wait staff. Also have to downvote the place as they are perpetually "understaffed," and management refuses to do anything about it. What a tasty little gem! The food is a very tasty take on some southern comfort foods. We'll have to revisit the place to try more on the menu. The three items we shared were all noteworthy and worth having again...so good it might be hard to try other things!! Walking in you'll find the order counter with menus to peruse if you're a first timer as I was. It's not a big menu, but packed with many options. I went with the basics, biscuits and gravy. I had to try both gravies so I got half & half. The biscuit was so perfectly tender and buttery in the inside and had crunchy little bits around the edges...the bits you love to break off and nibble on. The gravies are creamy and thick, coating the biscuit and sticks with it for every bite. The mushroom gravy had this umami that made me close my eyes and just savor the flavor. Not overpowering, and not even close to bland. Needed no salt or pepper, it was silky perfection on the plate. The sausage gravy is a tad saltier, it's the nature of the sausage, a bit of cracked pepper balanced it out so perfectly. Worth another order to share as we did. The shrimp and grits were no my choice. I've not had food grits before Pine State. These grits were so damned good, it was really hard to stop eating. They were creamy and had lovely toothsome textures all at once. The flavor just comes to life in your mouth, leaving wanting for more. The gravy over the top just lends another level of savory goodness. The shrimp were grilled and seasoned so well. On their own or dredges through the grits, or with a pop of the bacon atop the dish we're all amazing bites. It was so lovely to find fri s green tomatoes. The corn meal batter was thick, cooked through and kept its crunch. Dunk them in ranch or eat on their own both work. The tomato slices would have benefited by being thicker to retain the tangy goodness if the unripe tomato, but still a fine representation of a southern staple. Oh, I almost forgot the Bloody Mary! It was fabulous!! This is mostly due to the seasoning they use on the rim after wetting it with a lemon slice. The seasoning was so very unique and memorable. Had to have something like anise in the mix that popped. I could have stayed and sipped for hours. It comes with a nice stick of munchables and a crispy slice of bacon. The speed of food arriving is also reminiscent of the south, made for long lunches. Nothing came out quickly, and the care that went into food prep was obvious. The service isn't great, had to ask several times for extra plates to share and didn't get water (probably have to ask at the ordering) staff is friendly but not all too attentive. Not so bad it detracted from the food tho. Well worth the visit, even if there's a wait. If not hesitate to order to go any day of the week. read more

On a recent trip to Reno, I was very excited to do a Yelp search and find out that Pine State biscuits was a breakfast option. We had a great night at the casinos, and were looking forward to a hearty breakfast! I've been wanting to go to their original location in Portland, Oregon for years, and have been jealous that my wife made it there without me. It was such a nice little walk over from the casino on a Sunday morning, the weather was nice and we worked up a little appetite. The layout is cool, a rectangular place where you order your food at the counter and hope you find a good seat. We ordered the Reggie deluxe and the Mcisley. They're both biscuit sandwiches that have fried chicken and other good toppings. The Reggie is their signature sandwich, a fried chicken breast with cheese, and sausage gravy. My wife ordered the Reggie Deluxe with a fried egg, while I ordered the Mcisley that has fried chicken with pickles, mustard and honey. The guy that took our order suggested the Nashville hot version of the Mcisley that provided a hot oil sauce that really made for a delicious breakfast. We ordered bourbon apple pie, fresh squeezed orange juice, and a bloody Mary to wash it all down. My only gripe was that they pump out so many biscuits that our biscuits weren't warm. Also, they didn't ask us if we wanted to warm up the apple pie as a simple courtesy. Overall, we loved the food while it makes me want to visit their flagship Portland location ASAP! It is a definite visit if you're in Reno. We had fun, and hope to try other food like hash browns, and fried green tomato chicken sandwich!
