Stopped by to grab lunch for a beach picnic. Upon entering, you quickly realize that this is the place to come for a quick plate lunch. There were a mix of patrons the day I went. A lot of locals and construction workers. Let's just say there was a truck stop diner feel here, which I didn't mind. Totally one of the spots I hit every time I am in Kona, in fact right when I get off the plane, I've had the hamburger steak, loco moco, Denver omelette, fried rice omelette, Korean chicken, and still working down the two huge menu boards on the wall. The service is great here despite was other yelpers may say. The food is delish. It's not your high end type of restaurant more of a diner type setting, plenty of tables to sit down and eat. Large groups can be accommodated, no reservations needed. Plenty of parking available. read more

Not so good. Tried breakfast two times and lunch two times and each time the same -- food prep was VERY slow and after the too long wait, the food is just so so. Had high hopes but was disappointed. There ARE better places for local style (diner) food in Kona. read more

Wow! Huge menu! It covers the whole front wall of the joint. My wife had the Korean Chicken and I had the Crispy Huli Huli Chicken. Both were good but after having a chance to see all the menu while we ate I wish I had gotten something else. The prices are very good and this place is very convenient to the airport. I would definitely eat here instead of the gross looking restaurant at the airport. This would be a good place to grab a to go lunch when on your way to one of the Kohalo Coast beaches. read more

She won't look at you when you order and don't you even dare ask her to repeat what she said. Went to the big island and was advise to check out pine tree. The restaurant is close to the airport. We ordered the korean special and the katsu combo , and the 8 ounce cheeseburger. All I need to say was we returned to the pine tree at least 3 more times. The food was quality, the service was local no small talk. Order your food get it eat it and get the f*ck out. For you tourist or locals , kona restaurants is expensive, but if you want quality food for a good price then check out pine tree. Wish this place was on oahu, I will be going there at least 3 times a week. Try the fish and chips or the something called the seafood captains platter. Ono Brah read more

Just leaving the airport after a long flight, or just about to get on the plane back home? You can't beat this small place for big Hawaiian home cooking. The Huli Huli chicken is awesome Hawaiian BBQ. Large serving, perfectly balanced smoke and huli huli marinade. Inexpensive, fast and really hits the spot. The fish sandwiches are so fresh and good. No-frills decor, but the food is outstanding! We went for lunch and tried three different lunch specials: seared ahi, hapa ahi, and grilled ono. They were all perfectly seasoned and prepared. Sides are the ubiquitous choice of rice, brown rice, fries, mashed potatoes, mac salad or green salad. We were in kona just for the weekend. Just looked up this place on yelp and tried. During lunch time on sunday, this place was packed with locals. Great plate lunch. Lots of choices. If you are vegetarian like us, you can still enjoy plate lunch with fish, shrimp or breakfast items. The price is reasonable. Not a great interior but if you don't like the indoor seating, you can eat at the bench outside. I will go back there on our next trip to kona. read more

Have your first or last meal at the Pine Tree Café upon arriving or leaving the Big Island. This is some very good/great local Hawaiian food. They have locomoco, rice plates, musubi, spam, kalbi, Korean fried chicken, mahi mahi, and more. After having the Korean Fried Chicken at Pine Tree upon arriving on the Big Island, we tried KFC at several other places but PTC was the most ono with the lightest crispiest and tastiest batter and chicken. For the niche of the first/last place to eat on the Big Island, PTC is da best. read more

This is a great spot and a locals' favorite, with reason. Entire local families have lunch here. Good sign for good food. The lady who takes the orders is super nice, and the food is really good. We came twice, during our 4-day stay in the big island. As you might have noticed, we are not afraid of returning to the good places, instead of adventuring to unknown ones :-) The best thing is definitely the korean plate, especially the ribs!!! read more

Just a warning...do not order the breakfast burrito. They seem to think it's weird if you don't want meat in it (like they asked 5 times). They then punish you by leaving out the potatoes and substitute them with giant chunks of uncooked onions. One bite and I threw it away. Sadly that wasn't the most disappointing part of my experience. They think it's a fine idea to pour a giant amount of runny salsa right into the to go container. No plastic container or lid...and they don't warn you. They just hand it over and voila, as soon as you walk out the door it comes jetting out the sides (and in my case all over me and my clothing). I called to let the manager know and she did apologize but that doesn't quite make up for me having no breakfast and smelling like nasty salsa all day. #theworst read more

Got a good refferal from a friend for the breakfast here. Got up and got the family in to the resturant at 10:03am. Looked at the menu, ready to order at 10:05... "I'm sorry, breakfast ends at 10am" she says... well its only a few mins after.... nope sorry. Drove 20 mins down the road to Big Island Grill. They were awesome. This place is awesome! My family and I got off the plane around lunch time, were starving, and still had about a 30 min into Kona-Kailua, so I yelped some places to eat and found this place. It's 5 minutes out of the airport and oh so very delicious. First time I went I got the loco moco. Definitely try it, even if you've had loco moco's elsewhere before, because their loco moco is so much better. Their beef patty is made in more of a meat loaf fashion, resulting in more moisture and flavor! The gravy tastes generic, but the patty made up for it. The second time I went was on the way back to the airport. I decided to try their beef stew plate that time and did not regret it. It really flavorful and the meat is extremely moist and tender. The stew was flavorful with a nice tomato-ey punch, and it went well with my brown rice. I"m not sure if all the desserts are good, but my dad got the brownie and although it was pretty good, it tasted like a box brownie, and it wasn't super chocolately...nothing special. Husband and I ate here one night on our honeymoon last November and we loved it here! We wanted to go somewhere that had great reviews to try a little local food. I ordered the Korean chicken and I can't remember what my husband ordered but our food was excellent! I loved the Korean chicken so much I wish I could find it here in CA. The pasta salad was great! It is a really great small place where they make your food to order - it comes in little plastic to-go looking containers and I LOVED it. The place is very clean and spacious with a great selection of dessert and drinks. It's got great prices and even better food - if you want to try some EXCELLENT local food, try this place. This place is so fun! It's a nice, quiet cafe atmosphere with really good beach food! I'm always stopping by on the way to or from the beach for a veggie burger or egg sandwich. The staff isn't the most talkative, but everyone gets the job done. The food usually only takes a few minutes to be finished, unless it's a busy time of day. And the fries are to die for! read more
