Awesome find, Thank YOU Yelpamaniacs!! Traveling down a lonesome highway, with no traffic around.....punched up the ole yelp app to see what was ahead in Port Arthur. The Pine Tree Lodge popped up at the top of the list..... but wait I'm in the middle of BFE or it so it seemed. This place has good food, great service and decent prices. The gator bites appetizer had a crispy and highly seasoned batter that complimented the special dipping sauce that is served with it. Hushpuppies were awesome and cooked to perfection. Fried shrimp platter and my choice of sides were great also. Their customers came by four wheels, two wheels and no wheels (boats). Just a down home feel with no pretentious attitude....casual and "interesting" , all in one. read more

So I happened to be traveling for work, staying in Winnie, TX. This may sound terrible to those who don't know Winnie, but I was pretty excited. "Why?", you might ask. Well, Winnie is home to the best cajun restaurant this side of the Sabine River--Al T's--, and my hotel was just around the corner. Boy was I jazzed up...until...I had heavy cajun food 3 nights in a row. Needless to say my coworker and I explored other dinner options. We came across Pine Tree and gave it a try. The place itself is nice: a Southern home on the bayou with a deck used for feeding gators and listening to live music. The beer selection left something to be desired, but that didn't surprise me much. I was just glad that beer was an option! The food was pretty good. I got the grilled catfish with rice, gravy, and green beans. They brought me enough gravy to bathe in. No thanks, I just needed a dab on my rice. We went back a few days later, and the service was pretty slow. I don't remember it being particularly fast or slow the first time around. When it comes down to it, this place isn't even in the same ballpark with the likes of Al T's, but it's good food with a good atmosphere. All the way around a great experience! Plenty of open air seating and inside as well right on the water. Friendly staff and was seated, ordered and served quickly. Split the seafood platter with my wife it was the best fried fish, shrimp I've had in a long time. Crab cake was good too. All the seafood was tender with great flavor. Sides of mushrooms and sweet potato fries good too. All in about an hour. We left while the band was warning up but the place also looked like we may have missed some good music. The building looked like it would be an amazing experience. And then we ordered. Our waiter was terrible. He acted like he had anything better to do, and only came to our table when someone else sat in his section. We wasted $13 on alligator bites. There was 85% batter and 15% meat. I ordered he chicken fried steak with white gravy on the side, red beans and rice and green beans. The steak was the same as the alligator. There was no seasoning in the batter or the green beans. The only thing worth eating was the red beans. I'm very disappointed. read more

The Waitress/Bartender, Grace was Awesome! Our drinks were spot on. My husband's Seafood Sampler was great(other than Gumbo having no flavor and Crab Cake being Gummy). Hubs wanted me to order something... So, after looking at all the photos online... I decided to order the Pistolettes(to go). So, for the same Price... I get a whole roll and 3/4 of another! I had the seafood pasta and fried oysters, and they were really good but a bit expensive. My grandparents liked what they ordered as well. I also got one of their mimosas, but it was a different flavor than the typical orange mimosas (can't remember exactly which flavor). It was waaaaayy too strong to where I could taste too much of the alcohol. It was really difficult to finish it. I didn't expect that from a fruity drink. The server that we had was really sweet, helpful, and attentive. Overall, I would say it's a good place to eat though and I would return. read more

Every time I am in the Beaumont area, I have to stop at Pine Tree. I have been here about 5 times now, and each time the experience is just as good or better than I remember. The live music is awesome, and the beer is cold. I even like the fried seafood!! I most enjoy riding my bike over there in the summer and hanging out in the open bar. It's close to home. I love the atmosphere and the food is amazing. My kids absolutely love feeding the fish, gators and turtles.

My Co-Worker told me about this place so I headed out on a Sunday 9-8-2013 afternoon with another co-worker and the food is amazing. Good music and bikers were there and it was a fun time. You can also feed the alligators. Ask for Miss Linda. Awesome waitress! Gumbo was good. The green beans were the best I ever had. The big cat... Whole catfish was amazing. No journey to the south is complete until you eat some 'gator--and this is the perfect place for that! Located in a remote and swampy area out in the middle of the country, the Pine Tree Lodge is an establishment of locals and regulars. The only way to really know about it being a tourist is to be told by a local--and we are glad we had gracious hosts told us about this little treasure! I don't recall our waitress's name, but she was fantastic. We came in with a pretty large party, and she worked to find us a large enough table and hustled to get us our food. Top notch service! So, we couldn't resist ordering an appetizer of the "Gator Bites"--deep-fried, of course. The breading had a salty and slightly-spicy kick to it. They had some dipping sauce, which was OK but unnecessary. They give you a *lot* of gator for just one order, so keep that in mind if you come here. When you look at the prices on the menu, they may look a little steep, but they're generous with the portions. You'll get your money's worth. After that came my entrée, a grilled chicken sandwich. It was your pretty standard-fare grilled sandwich. I should have expected this--grilled foods aren't exactly their specialty. It's all about the fried food here. This is good 'ole homestyle cooking! Then scavenged bits and pieces of my friends' plates. Tried some of the fried shrimp--it was OK, but I'm not really much of a shrimp person so I moved on. The (fried) okra and also the hush puppies were amazing. If you aren't familiar with them, okra is a quite healthful vegetable (well, really a fruit but it looks and tastes like a green vegetable)--but then they bread it and deep fry it to turn it into cholesterol-skyrocketing goodness. Hush puppies are essentially deep-fried balls of cornbread. AMAAZING! Lastly, not that I had room, but I indulged anyway and got an order of hot apple pie with a dollop of cold ice cream with caramel drizzled all over. Let's just say, this pretty much completed my night. The ice cream melting to a pile of milky goo due to the warmth of the apple pie wasn't an issue--I scarfed that up like nobody's business. Oh yeah, and Diet Dr. Pepper on fountain. Bonus points for that (although I guess Diet Dr. Pepper is pretty standard in the South). If you like playing pool, they have two coin-op tables. Wow, is what I say when I am impressed. Pine Tree Lodge serves home-made meals. I had the Sautéd Catfish with onions, peppers and rice. I was completely satisfied but my dessert stomach wanted Bread Pudding not disappointed. I will come back every time I am in the area. read more

Am I really writing a review about chicken strips?? Yes. Yes I am. I go to the Pine Tree specifically for the fried gator. It's fabulous!! Today, I wanted a light meal in addition to my normal order of gator bites, so I ordered the chicken strips from the "smaller portions" section of the menu. I was expecting the normal chicken strip portions you get at most places. What arrived was TWO pieces of breaded chicken breast that were each about the size of Godzilla's pecker. They were perfectly breaded, tender and juicy. The fries that came with it were a little soggier than I like and the hush puppies that come with the gator bites were a little more done than I like, but not a big deal. Food and service are consistently good here and we continue to go back to try new menu items. Don't pass up this place if you're in the area!! read more

What a hidden gem off the bayou! It's a liil drive to get there but oh so worth it! We started off with gator bites with hush puppies. So delicious. My only critique is that I wish that the hush puppies didn't absorb so much oil! I ordered the blackened thick tilapia topped with lump crab in alredo sauce over rice pilaf. Best tilapia in my life! My sides of mashed potatoes with gravy was yummy! My honey ordered fried catfish and fries which he loved. I wanted to taste his, but I was enjoying my dish too much. :-P The portions for both dishes were generous. The fish fillets were so thick! I wanted to try dessert but we were too full. Good times! We happened to be traveling through the area and stopped over at in a campground in nearby Port Arthur. Our host's first recommendation, should we want to venture out., was Pine Tree Lodge. It's a fun place with some real characters entertaining us as they played pool. However, the food was so not worth it. My "fish taco" was literally a half a battered fish on a Mission tortilla. There might have been mayo on the side. Perhaps the food is meant to add to the country (aka redneck) "charm" of the place. It's definitely a place to throw back a few beers, eat some peanuts and look for gators...not a place to go for a meal. Still, for something to do it's a fun little spot, just don't come hungry. read more

This place has an amazing patio area! Right on the water, turtles and alligators were swimming just a few feet away! The waitress was very nice and attentive. Beer was cold. The food was fried to perfection! I really enjoyed the mashed potatoes and gravy! Everything tasted homemade and so fresh! After our meal we threw in a few pieces of bread to the turtles! Came out here on the off chance and glad I did - great open air setting on the bayou, good food, live music - a fun trip. Busy on a Friday evening but staff were quick and friendly and waited for about 25 mins for food which I thought was very reasonable given the crowd. Does allow smoking on the deck but the area is airy and well ventilated by the breeze so not really bothersome. Would definitely go back. read more

Off the beaten path a bit but worth searching out. As for the decor it's sort of a mix of 1950ish mom and pop watering hole and restaurant. It's not fancy but it's got pretty good catfish and a good burger. The shrimp is good and so far I have no complaints about the food. The service can be hit or miss at times but usually it's a hit. On Sunday afternoons it can be hectic but it's a pretty big crowd listening to live music with almost a festival atmosphere. We usually go on a weekday and it's pretty laid back. There are alligators in the bayou and turtles everywhere so keep an eye on the kids. The place is unique in the area and as such it is hard to compare it to any other. It pretty well stands alone and it stands head over heels above most of the chain outfits that have taken over in Southeast Texas. read more
