Better to get the sushi than the Chinese. Dee's has both Chinese and Sushi menus. It makes you think about the "Jack of all trades, master of none" phrase. Here it's only like that to an extent. The sushi is pretty damn good and not expensive for as much as you can get. A lot of good stuff but mostly the sushi is the only thing you ever need to try, because that's what it's known for. It seems most people are complaining about the Chinese food in the reviews. The obvious reason why to get sushi! Last time they were only doing carryout. We got a couple rolls. It's about $6 for each. The first one was the Avocado Maki. It's basic looking. The avocado was creamy and fresh, so it was about as good as you can get for this. Rolls are also a good size and filling. The other one was the Oshinko Maki. Also good. It has a vegetable that's almost like a radish. The oshinko is pickled so it tastes vinegary. As for the Chinese food, I haven't tried any yet but maybe some day. This doesn't seem like it's worth it by what I've heard about it. For the price it's pretty good. It seems like the sushi is better than the Chinese food, according to many who have eaten here. Holy duck! Shut the front door - then slam the back door, bolt the side door, close the attic and the cellar! After 40+ years of dining, I've finally found Duck Nirvana! Not only did Dee's Crispy Duck live up to its billing as "crispy", but it was wonderfully flavorful, butter tender, juicy and plentiful. Dee explained how they lovingly massage the duck, over and over, with spices before a quick sous-vide like preparation prior to her signature flash-fry. What you're left with is simply perfection, all for a mere $17. Sure, her Egg Rolls ($6) are amazing - massive, infant-sized blisters of wonderfulness that are artfully crammed with large pieces of shrimp, chicken and vegetables. And you won't find one drop of grease on the plate. Not to be outdone, the Shrimp Toast ($7) was enough to share with our four-top as we dined outside on the back patio during a recent summer evening. I'm pretty sure our friends enjoyed their meals as well, chasing the huge plates down with two bottles of silky, unfiltered sake - but I was too focused on my duck to really pay attention. We ordered the general T's, beef & broccoli, and crab Rangoon. The meat was soggy and mealy and the crab Rangoon filling was a weird crab potato mixture that was pretty flavorless. It was so much more expensive than our tried and true delicious place we usually order from, so this one is definitely a bust. read more

Stopped in here to grab some take out, and thought it was pretty good. Our take out was ready on time, so that is always a good start. We ordered the crab rangoon, orange chicken, a yellowtail roll and a salmon roll to split between two people. Crab Rangoon - 5 in the order, stuffed super full, these were really good Orange Chicken - interesting because it was a cut up chicken breast and not individually fried, could have been spicier but still good - probably should have gotten a second rice with this Sushi Rolls - these were good, 6 pieces per roll, not as good as specifically sushi places, but since this is mainly an entrees place, I wasn't expecting too much. Rice was a little much to fish portion, but the fish was good. It doesn't rank as high with me as some of the other places I've had, but still good food and a nice variety on the menu. My girlfriend and I ordered the crab rangoon, dumplings, mongolian beef, and twice-cooked pork. Initial impression, I wish the entrees came with more sauce; I like to pour sauce onto my white rice. Otherwise, the entrees are good; just not great. The dumplings were tasty. However, I did not care for the crab rangoon too much. The worst Chinese garbage I have ever had. Fried rice, Mongolian chicken, and garlic shrimp.. so dry and flavorless it was like eating sand in the Sahara desert. Not to mention the ridiculous amount of salt.70 bucks for that miserable excuse for food. There are 3 things I miss ever since I moved from Florida to Chicago- the sun, a good deli, and good Chinese food. I've tried many different Chinese restaurants, and haven't had much luck finding a good one, although I've settled for Yen's. This evening I had the depressing task of spending hours taking GMAT practice tests....just the perfect way to end the weekend (note: major sarcasm). I had a craving for some good Chinese food and figured I would order in Dee's Mandarian after reading all of the review! Thank you to all the yelpers who reviewed Dee's because I have finally discovered a Chinese restaurant that I love! I had the sesame shrimp and it was absolutely delicious- so good that I'm already looking forward to tomorrow' night's leftovers. Dee! You gave me my most favorite meal during a recent trip to Chi city. Everyone was beyond nice from the hostess to our server and it created the most joyful time! After ordering 2 rolls all to myself. I decided to needed to slow my roll and not order an appetizer. But, when I saw the hot and sour soup come out for some of my friends, my eyes got real wide and they asked me if I wanted to try a bite... Nope. I'll get my own. And I slurped it down. Fellow Yelp friends, this is was the best hot and sour soup I've ever in my life. The consistency was perfect and the spice was just enough to make me want to drink my beer a little quicker... which made for a better night all around. My favorite roll ordered was the Mexican Roll. With tuna, cilantro, cucumber, avocado, jalapeño, masago, spicy mayo, and lime it was a unique (and quite filling) experience. I absolutely love Dee's. I discovered about 20 years ago when I lived over in LP and would often eat there or order from there. Living a bit further west it's not always easy to get over there for pick up and not easy to get delivery. I was so delighted when it popped up last Sunday as delivering to my area - I jumped on it and ordered pot stickers (they introduced me to them and they are the best); crab Rangoon (yum) and Szechuan chicken. I've tried other things on the menu but I always go back to that because it's the best I've ever had. It was here in about an hour which I thought was great and it was exactly what I wanted and have been craving. The food here is really top notch. It has been several months since I dined in at Dee's. Although I have always enjoyed my dining experience there, lately I've been opting for dining at home and ordering for delivery. My usual order: **Eggrolls - generously stuffed with chicken, shrimp and veggies **Crab rangoon - tasty although i think they might be a little overstuffed **Sweet and sour shrimp - yummmm **Brown Rice - a nice option for those of us trying cut down on white rice Occasionally, I'll switch it up and go for one of the chow mein dishes. Yum! They usually say "within the hour" for delivery time. Usually I don't have to wait longer than half an hour. This place is great. I have been here several times now and every time it is a treat. The first time we came here, there was a snow storm. Once we were seated the waitress pulled a heater next to our booth to warm us up. I love how they always start with giving you a warm towelette to wash your hands and the staff is always amazing and friendly. My favorite dish is their veggie stir fry noodles. For a noodle dish, the ingrediants are so fresh and even though it is mixed with a sauce it is amazing how light they keep it. read more

The quality of fish (both cooked and raw) is the poorest I've been served in quite some time. The noodles are soggy as oatmeal and drenched in oil. The chicken was rubbery, inedible and a color and texture of which I have never experienced in all of my deliveries and travels. Our first experience at Dee's was good. We didn't order too many things - and actually one of the people we were with wasn't a vegetarian like the rest of us, so the sharing options were limited. First I was kind of shocked that we went here on a Friday night and the place was quite empty. Usually that's a cause for concern. At that point we were already there, so we just decided to stay. I hate to generalize, but like most Asian restaurants, the service was spotty. In fact, at first, the waitress was just plain rude. I'm given Dee's the benefit of the doubt, because around half-way through, maybe her mood changed or what not, but she started behaving decently. The points Dee's gets is for the food. We started with spring rolls - they were good. So the eggplant was great. Definitely our favorite entree. The chow mein noodles were just OK. I think they put the noodles themselves under the veggies and sauce and they came out already soggy. Overall great food. Next time we go, I'd want to try some additional veggie entrees. A favorite of our friends, I have a different insight to Chinese food with a friend who is Chineses, but I will say that Mandarin is Chinese, Sushi is Japanese... so not sure how that works :) Portion sizes were huge, we ordered 6 or 7 entrees for 6 adults and 4 kids, put it on the spinning centerpiece and had more than enough food. All was very good, didn't try the shrimp dishes... it can make my foot swelly (not smelly)! Great service, off the main track of chaos in Lincoln Park. Anyway, if you want authentic chinese food (ie. chicken feet, dimsum, etc) go to china town, but if you like Chinese with the US touch... great place. read more

There is such a large variety of meal options to choose from, I have a hard time deciding what to order sometimes. So I have been going to this place since the 90s... long standing customer. Food has always been good and I like to support local restaurants during this crazy time. However, I'm not impressed with the takeout situation, especially the young girl working last night. When ordering their steamed dumplings, they are placed in a biodegradable brown container that peels off onto the dumplings. Paper stuck to the dumplings which is a huge turn off. This has happened before but I remembered to say something this time. I had called to ask them to put in wax paper so they wouldn't stick to container and was flat out told no. And kinda rude. Seriously? They use the paper for other apps. I'm not impressed, especially paying the prices they charge. Im going to check out other places and buyer beware on the dumplings. Too bad. read more

The Mongolian beef was sooo salty and covered in a disgusting amount of cornstarch, the string beans were extremely oily, and the hot and sour soup was too thick and lacking flavor. I was really disappointed that the mangolian beef was not beef after all but pork in both beef dishes that we ordered. It was also extremely salty. Dees was our favorite Chineese restaurant and we spent our Christmas eve's there every year for at least 27 years.. The sit down portion of the restaurant closed last year but remained open as a carry out. This year we ordered carry out and returned home. Dee's is one of my go-to spots for Chinese or sushi as it's consistently good and also has the bonus of being a really nice space to dine in as well. Let's face it - most Chinese places are not known for their decor. Dee's also has a really quaint fenced-in outdoor patio if you're inclined to eat outside but the interior space is more than pleasant enough if that's more your bag. Food is delicious, if not entirely authentic. The menu is extensive, with lots of appetizer and sushi options, as well as typical Chinese dishes. There's something for everyone on the menu. Service is efficient and friendly, and they give you hot, lemon-scented towels to wash your hands before and after your meal. I've been going to Dee's for years and they never let me down. I looooove Dee's - my favorite Chinese place in Chicago. I've been coming here since I was a kid living around the corner, and it seems to keep getting better. I'm a fan of Chinese, and while it's not the most authentically prepared cuisine available, it's just delicious. It's an upscale place, very comfortable, nice ambiance and the service is excellent. One money hungry waiter ruined my birthday outing. Won't be back! I came here yesterday for my 22nd birthday. I was really impressed with their decor and layout. When me and my small group arrived I didn't feel out of place like I didn't belong. The restaurant looks a bit upscale but the attire says casual and although no one else in the restaurant was wearing casual attire like my group (jeans, and gym shoes) we still felt comfortable. The staff were so welcoming and attentive. The food was....ok, just okay (not much of a taste) but still I was having a decent time UNTIL...our waiter decided to overstep his boundaries. Me and my group tip fairly everywhere we go. When our waiter brought us the check and we gave him the correct amount of money he came back to the table confused and forced us to give him a large tip by making a scene as if we didn't pay the correct amount. We were planning to tip him $5.75 once he brought us back the change, but he assumed (more like stereotyped) that we wouldn't and didn't leave the table until he got much more out of us. We were prepared to give a decent tip and didn't need the pressure he was putting on us or the humiliation. He haggled $10.75 out of us and one of the $5 we gave him we wanted change for but he just ran off and didn't come back. What kind of business are they running where the staff can just rob people or negotiate their own tip??? Where is the class and professionalism? I reported this and was told he got a "talking to" I'm not sure what good that did though. read more

For many years Dees was my go to spot. I moved further away and picked up new spots. Feeling nostalgic I ordered it again, but finished waxing for the old days. The hot and sour soup was very boring and all I really got flavor wise was chicken broth. Pork gyozo were very bland as well and they didn't come with any sauce. Sesame chicken was about what I remembered. I wouldn't order again unless I'm feeling really in the mood for it. read more
