My fave Thai food. I visited when they first open at Market on the 8th but kind of stop coming when a lot of the restaurants left so I never went back. When I came back it is more lively. The food is so delicious like I remembered it. I got the high blood pressure fried pork with rice, spam musubi, and sticky rice with coconut ice cream. I share this with my daughter and we both love it. The pork is crispy, crunchy, and garlicky. That's a good combo in my book. The sticky rice with coconut ice cream is a perfect ending to a great meal. The coconut ice cream has chunks of coconut meat. That's my favorite!! The service is excellent!! I like the menu at Ping Yang! It's interesting that they have four different gyoza options, and gyoza is not a standard Thai appetizer. When I went here, I was in between the tamarind chicken wings and garlic chicken wings, but I went with garlic because I am a garlic fiend. The wings were very crispy and I liked the crispy garlic. The garlic was more of a topping than the flavor of the wing, so that would be ideal if the wings had more garlic flavor to it also. I was conflicted on if I wanted a rice dish or a noodle dish, so I went with class pad thai. The flavor was there, but it was very oily and I feel like random things were added in. The photo (when ordering off the screen) looked like standard pad thai (noodles, scrambled eggs, green onions, peanuts, bean sprouts) but mine had pieces of broccoli and lettuce. I preferred the chicken wings over the pad Thai. My favorite thing was actually the Thai tea with lychee juice! It had big, fresh pieces of lychee. I wanted to order another one. This was a unique beverage and it was super refreshing! The only other time I had a Thai tea/lychee drink was in NYC. They also have Thai green tea, which is another hit, but I didn't try it. The food came out within 10-15 minutes, which was not too bad. The main issue I had was that I asked for a to-go container and bag for my leftovers. My sister had purchased an extra order of garlic wings for her daughter, then also asked for a to-go bag. The worker said, "I already gave her a bag" (referring to me). She provided extra spice and chilies, sauce to increase the heat. Excellent quality. The Tom Kha soup had a slightly different taste than we are use to, but not a bad variation. Ping Yang Thai is a little spot at Market on 8th. They have a touchpad where you can order if you'd like, but the staff are very friendly and ready to help. After we ordered, she made sure to verify if there were any food allergies, which was very nice. Our food came out after about ten minutes, which was nice. And we found some space to sit in the large communal area. I got the pad Thai with soft tofu. It was good, and was a really good portion size too! I had some leftover that ended up being my dinner later. My husband ordered the fried rice with crispy chicken, and he really liked it. The rice came in a large to go box too, so he was very happy with the portion! We also both got a Thai tea with coconut milk and crystal boba. I will probably try the other milk substitute they have (can't remember which one it is) next time. But overall, it was really nice! Great spot for lunch. read more

The first time we ate here was very good so we ate there a second time and all the fried food was burned. It was very greasy and also the papaya salad tasted fermented or something. It was not like the papaya salad in Thailand there were no green beans and the flavor was just off. The business name of this vendor at the Market on 8th food hall is self-explanatory. Starters, individual skewers of meats and vegetables, greens, and house specials were the main menu categories. During my visit, a few items were sold out, specifically the Northern Thai style sausage, the bacon-wrapped enoki mushroom skewer, and the bacon-wrapped asparagus skewer. The house special was a preset combination consisting of a protein served with sticky rice and papaya salad. There were four choices so I picked the BBQ pork set as opposed to the chicken satay, BBQ chicken, or deep fried pork. It took at least 15 minutes before my food was ready inside a cardboard takeout box. The pork was cut into small pieces with a cup of tamarind sauce provided as a dip for the meat. The sticky rice was wrapped in tin foil, and the papaya salad was served on a small tray. I liked the salad the best because the veggies were refreshing and covered with a light dressing that contained lime juice and fish sauce. For the price of $14.50, I thought the food was average in quality and portion size. read more

I'm trying to patronize every lil eatery in Market on 8th and last night, finally did so with Ping Yang. I had a few questions about the menu and the gentleman was very kind answering all of them. So, I decided to get the pork belly skewers (3 for $7.50) and to make it a combo, add $4.50 (comes with sticky rice, salad, and 2 pieces of the veggies egg roll/ vegan gyoza/ or chicken gyoza). When you pick your skewer (3)- it must be the same protein. You can also choose 2 sauces. I went with the house green sauce (jalapeño & something else to make it creamy- real good!) and the teriyaki. I will admit, the entire portion for the skewer combo was perfect. It wasn't overbearing and I didn't feel weighed down and tired after eating. I will definitely go back to try more items on the menu. Look for additional items written on paper! read more

Hidden away in National City's food hall - noting it's almost full of venues with only 2 or 3 still shuttered - this little gem is easy to walk past as it's just to the left of the entrance from the big dinning room. The food is amazing. Three of us ordered different items and they were all prepared on the spot. Very generous potions, including the Pad Thai with pork belly that, unlike most places, did not skimp on the meat. I ordered a space rating of 3, and it was perfect. The young lady with the heart shaped glasses at the front could not have been nicer and more helpful. She brought our drinks out to the table while we waited for our beeper to let us know the food was ready. Ambiance is fine. It's a food hall. The only criticism is that many venues are playing music and it just makes noise for the customers, while I'm sure the employees of the venues enjoy their tunes. Fortunately, this restaurant did not have the tunes blazing, so they did not contribute to the noise. We've had Thai food all over San Diego County. This is now one of our favorites. Friggen awesome! Whatever they dust those fries with is off the hook, but the fried basil mixed sends them over the top. The chicken was definitely crispy and full of flavor! I really enjoy the garlic chicken plate, spicy chicken pad see ew, and the spicy shrimp pad Thai. You can choose what protein you prefer per dish (chicken, shrimp, beef or none). If you like foods really spicy, ask for extra spices. Level 5 isn't always spicy enough in my opinion. read more
