Came on Friday Night with the BF at around 6:30pm. There was only a few people in the restaurant, but a ton of take out orders. Pink Bee offers traditional thai dishes and some dishes with a twist. You can get curry and satay as a sandwich or a salad! You just order at the counter and find a seat anywhere. Service was very quick and the cashier kept checking on us to make sure everything was great. Panang Curry Sandwich (Chicken): The bread was absolutely perfect for this sandwich. It was crunchy on the outside and very soft on the inside. Somewhat similar to the baguettes at Un Bien or Paseo. The sandwich was filled with lots of juicy chicken, but the curry flavors were missing. I had to add more spice to make the dish more tasty. The sandwich was also served with a side of chips. As far as portion size, I was pretty full after one half of the sandwich. For a $10 sandwich, Pink Bee is pretty decent. The Braised pork sandwich is amazing. Huge chunks of delicious braised pork, mayo, lettuce, cilantro all go so perfectly together. I would love to try their other sandwiches next time I come around. Pink Bee is a Thai restaurant, located in Ballard. My husband and I liked this place while we were visiting Seattle and ended up coming here twice, on 2 separate visits. Pink Bee has it's own tiny parking lot (not sure if you will be lucky to get a parking spot when you come though) and there is street parking all along the streets (one side is for a fee but around the side does not). Anyways, we ended up ordering the following of both visits: Spring Rolls, $3.50 prior to tax- Please note that these only comes vegetarian (which I did not know until I ordered and asked what is in it). I thought these egg rolls were bland and average. I wouldn't recommend ordering these. Panang Curry Tofu Salad, Small $5.50 prior to tax- I was not too hungry when we came here and so I opted for a small salad. I had asked the employee if he could make the curry be mild. He told me that their curry isn't spicy but I thought it was (this is coming from someone who doesn't do spicy foods). I liked the flavors of the curry though, although a little spicy for me. I thought the portion of the salad and tofu was perfect for me but I think most people would prefer a large size salad. I was given a side of curry sauce on the sauce in case the sauce on the tofu was not enough. Satay Tofu Red Cargo (Brown Rice) $9.50 prior to tax- I decided to try the satay this time for the tofu (please note that I am not vegetarian but really like tofu). I actually thought the sauce used on this tofu was spicier than the panang curry. I liked the flavors but my mouth did feel like it was starting to be on fire (again, I don't really do spicy foods). This entree comes with a small salad and a generous portion of rice. It was nice that I did not have to pay extra for brown rice. Braised Pork Sandwich, Whole $9.50 prior to tax- Yum, braised pork is a definite yes! My husband opted for this sandwich, which was juicy. You have the option of purchasing half of a sandwich by the way. If you like pork, this is definitely something to order at Pink Bee. Braised Pork Red Cargo (Brown Rice) $9.50 prior to tax- My husband opted to order this on a separate visit. Just like my entree, this comes with a side salad and rice (you can order white rice if you prefer). The pork was tender and juicy. The pork tasted similar to the pork in the sandwich. The first time we came here, we ordered to go. The wait time for our food wasn't too long. And while we were waiting for our food, we saw that plenty of people also made to go orders or came in to pick up their to go orders. The 2nd time we came here, we decided to dine in (there is a good amount of tables and chairs in here. There is free WiFi (but on the slow side). And again, the wait time for our food was pretty quick. Our food was brought out to us. Also people were coming in to make to go orders and pick up to go orders. Service was friendly both times. The restaurant was pretty clean upon both visits. Also if you need to use the restroom, there is one unisex restroom down the hallway, in the back of this eatery. Make sure to get the key at the register though. Overall, food was great (although my spicy level is rather low) and the price is fair for the portion. Came by for lunch as they have been on my radar for a while now. Nice little mom & pop shop in Ballard, they are super friendly and appreciate your business. The man that works the front is super helpful helping to explain the menu, items listed, options, any food allergies etc. You choose your protein, you can make it into a sandwich, rice plate or salad. They also have a few common traditional Thai dishes that you've had before. I decided to try the Panang Curry w/ Chicken in a sandwich form. The Panang chicken curry was very flavorful and tasty, some peppers mixed in with caramelized onions, lettuce on a potato bread. I think I should've gotten a rice plate or a salad, the sandwich was a little tough to eat as it was super messy, stuff oozed out of every end plopping all over the plate, hands had curry all over it. Stuff just slipped out real easily, so you will need a fork or fingers to eat with. I don't mind being a messy eater but I ended up taking a shower afterwards. :) Definitely want to come back to try other items, they seem to cook your food to order so it will take some extra time. Overall, it was very tasty, the people are real nice there, prices are pretty standard for a nice home cooked style lunch. A friend of mine recommended Pink Bee as a no nonsense place for delicious Thai food, and he was right! We got a tom kha (spicy and sour coconut soup), pad see ew, and braised pork dish to share. Everything was more delicious than what you can expect at a similarly priced Thai restaurant. And I don't know if it was because of the friendliness of the staff, but the food tasted like a home cook meal. I highly recommend the braised pork (bamee moo toon). So I was in Ballard the other day and looked under "Hot New Businesses" on Yelp and up popped The Pink Bee. I thought there was a mistake - I've driven by this building a zillion times recently and never noticed a new spot. So I headed over there and there it was: so stinkin' brand new they didn't even have a sign put up yet! But oh this place is so cute. And good, like DELICIOUS good. I got the Green Curry Chicken which was full of tender chicken and super fresh veggies. Let me tell you about these veggies: they were cooked perfectly. Sometimes when ya get Thai food it's, well, a little mushy in the veg department. Not these babies. Little slices of zucchini, fresh-from-the-garden green beans, tiny slices of eggplant...it was serious delicious. And the curry sauce was yummy yummerson. Not too spicy, not too UNspicy. And of course if you want it more spicy they have all the usual condiments so you can zing it up to your liking. The service is friendly too. Plus they have a Yelp check-in deal for 10% off. The flavor and saucy sticky sweet texture of the pad thai was the closest to authenticity that I could find in Seattle. Throughout the past year the quality of the food has gone downhill drastically. I'm picking on the pad thai especially. Noodles are now sometimes mushy and overcooked, other times all stuck together. They've rinsed off all the flavors of the pickled radish, and the sauce has no more flavor beyond just sugary. I still support the restaurant multiple times a month but am disappointed every time. My mouth is still watering from the delicious meal my son and I picked up from the Pink Bee! My son's go to Thai place was closed, so I went to Yelp to find the best chance to get a good Thai meal. Pink Bee came in first place in my search and it was it close enough for us to pick up dinner! A large juicy portion of braised pork (spice level 2) sitting on this very flavorful red rice. The accompanying green sauce, which my only complaint is that I should have asked for more as I wanted to bathe more of the pork in it! The veggies had a nice crunch and were tangy especially and good mixed in with the meal! I failed to mention my Tom Yum soup that I order spice level 3, it was packed with chicken and large chunks of mushrooms along with that nice lemon grass spice. Oh, so nice. I might be tempted to bump this up to spice level 4 on a future visit... Food 5 This is what I look for food bursting with flavor and even when it is take out. I hate leaving bad reviews, and I typically love getting takeout from Pink Bee. Their prices are fair and flavors usually on point. I especially like their pad thai, pad see ew and larb. But tonight, I ordered larb and noticed a lot of the meat was not fully minced. There were so many large clumps. After eating several spoonfuls I noticed the chicken was not fully cooked. The clumps were transparent pink and some even red in the center, and texture still gooey. I just threw the entire box away. This is one of my favorite places in Ballard for many reasons. 1. It's reasonably priced. 2. It is obviously family run, and they're all very welcoming and sweet. I've never had anything but great service here. 3. It's not a stereotypical "Ballard" restaurant (think hipster design elements and overpriced food). 4. The food is great! The next time I came here I tried the chicken satay with rice and loved it! While there I overheard a woman singing the praises of their salads, and she ordered the chicken satay. Hmmmm. The third time I came here I ordered just that. A large chicken satay salad. It is SO good. It's pretty simple as far as salads go- lettuce, carrots, cucumbers, cilantro. But the dressing/sauce is top notch and the satay chicken is to die for. The vegetables really provide a freshness to the dish to make it outstanding. This is coming from me- a person who LOVES rice and would eat it with anything and I am not really known to order salads ever. Another thing I've tried here that I really enjoyed was their pad thai. The noodles were thinner than I'd seen in other restaurants but it was quite good. My boyfriend loves this place also. He always gets the spicy holy basil chicken with red rice. It's our favorite Thai food in this area of the city including Pestle Rock which we don't love (because of price and other things) despite popular opinion. I've come here twice now. I had the braised pork with rice, and also with noodles. Both were great. Not the biggest fan of the avocado crab rangoon, but the main dishes more than made up for it. The first time I visited Pink Bee, I went by myself. I do this often to screen food before I bring my family. I always feel like I've won the lottery when my entire family enjoys eating at a restaurant. With 5 people (some of them very picky) agree that the food is good, it's a win! All of them love it! Aside from building your own meal, you can also buy dishes like garlic noodles and fried rice. My current favorite is the garlic noodles with tofu. I enjoy the charred flavor on the wide noodles. Garlic is always a hit in my book. The textures and flavors are harmonious and although some may say it's a bit salty, it's something that I enjoy. The chicken satay is surprisingly tender. I've tried tons of similar chicken sliced thin and it's often dried out. Not the case here. It's tender and flavorful and managed to impress my picky son. The curries are creamy and well done. I enjoy coming here to eat in the restaurant on slow days but there's always pretty steady traffic coming in and out. This family run business always has nice staff who are very attentive. That being said, I've also called in for take out and everything has been just as good to go. I'd heard a lot about Pink Bee before I decided to stop by. The hype is real. Been awhile since I visited I have been since my last review probably gone a couple of times during the pandemic. Set up is good makes you feel save picking up a take out order. When I heard there was a khao soi on the specials menu I had to go! One of my favorite dishes just introduced to it earlier this by some fellow Yelp elites Nelson L and Bryan K and a couple of other friends. Got it with chicken and three star on the spice just the right level for me. Don't judge was too lazy to put in bowl. Definitely generous serving a couple meals for me. The pickled veggies and raw red onions were perfect freshness and acid to cut through the richness of the curry. The broth came in a plastic soup container and the soft noodles, crunchy noodles, pickled veggies and onions came in a separate box to add to the broth that contained the chicken. Ordered takeout from this place. Got the fried rice with chicken which was good, but I've definitely had much better fried rice elsewhere. Also got the Penang curry with slow cooked beef. While the curry by itself was tasty, the beef was terrible. It was extremely tough and extremely chewy to the point that I couldn't eat it anymore. I love the idea of this place; it combines two of my favorites: Thai food and Sandwiches! I just stumbled across it when I was in Ballard. I am glad I did. The staff was very helpful in giving you recommendations. Cleanliness of this place could use a little work. The bathroom isn't gross but its not great either. If you want to try multiple sandwiches, you can because they offer half size sandwiches. For some a half sandwich might even be enough. Pad Thai is very hit or miss for me in Seattle Thai restaurants, and Pink Bee hit it out of the park!! Best pad thai I've ever had! No skimping on the sauce and a really nice balance of sweet, savory, and tart elements. My boyfriend had the garlic noodles, and they had a wonderful brine-y, garlic, but slightly sweet flavor. The green sauce...! It was a lot of flavors and textures, and I loved everything about it. I only wished there were more greens balance out the savory pork & rice. The pad Thai was also good with a nice mix of distinct flavors. The noodles were skinnier than most other pad Thais, and they got stuck together near the end of the meal; kind of annoying, but still delicious. The downside was that the chicken was dry.
