Gosh this will be a very difficult review to write. First thing is first, this is an interesting restaurant with a tradition of cutting ties. If you will venture out this way, wear an ugly tie for it to be cut. I was fortunate to witness this and yes, it was fun. Wear a tie. The restaurant is nestled in an area surround by the hill and shrubbery. Not much around the location. There's an outdoor waiting area, a small waiting area indoor, OR you can wait at the empty bar while you enjoy some beverages. I highly recommend going to be bar if the wait is long. The service was great. The waitress checked on us and made sure everything was okay. Now to the most difficult part, the food. This establishment, compared to other older steakhouse, is doing something different. They are attracting younger folks to continue this tradition. Majority of other steakhouses are not bringing in the younger crowd, and this will adversely affect them when their customers start to move on to a different life. The first thing that comes out is complimentary bread. The bread is just bread. Taste like a thick wonder bread. There's a brown slice and a white slice. The bread is very dense and it is just bread. The butter is airy and whipped, which compensated for the plain bread. I understand that the slice is traditional in the past, but gosh, it is so plain. Throw some honey in the butter or serve corn bread or some other bread. I would rather not have the bread unless if I ordered BBQ to make a sandwich. Next came the salads. The salad is your typical garden salad but with grape tomatoes and croutons. Per the waitress, the dressings were made in house, with blue cheese as their popular choice. Beans came out next. Man, think of pinto beans with Oregano juice. Gosh, it was different but utterly meh. If they have been serving this recipe for so long, I guess people like it. I ordered the "angus" ribeye, where my girlfriend ordered the cow girl steak aka T-bone. Not sure why they would gender a steak as most men would not order a cowgirl steak. The ribeye was not tough and cooked well over their famous fire grill. The T-bone was a bit tough. Majority of the poor reviews complained of the steak being plain. Well, steaks are meant to be indulged without any sauces and as it with seasoning when it's cooked. Some people enjoy this, but not all. Objectively, I can see why no sauces are offered. I understand why they have regulars and the way they do things is meant to be what I mentioned, so it should be respected. This is why I gave it a 4/5. I do think they should offer sauces on the side. Whether it's made in house or from an A1 bottle. Bottom line, some people like sauce. This is something you should experience, and something that you should be the judge of. It's an experience and it's a long standing restaurant in the city. We used to love this place when it was closer to home in Colton, so we drove all the way to San Dimas for the nostalgia and to celebrate 2 birthdays. Unfortunately, it turned out to be the worst restaurant experience I've ever had. While we were waiting for the rest of our party to arrive, our waitress offered to bring us cornbread. She never mentioned there was a charge, didn't ask how many we wanted, and simply brought out two orders. Since she offered it and never explained it was an extra charge, we naturally assumed it was complimentary for the birthday celebration. Things only went downhill from there. The rest of our group was given a hard time at the front because they didn't know the exact name the reservation was under. We were also given grief for placing birthday presents on a chair at the end of the table, a chair the staff had placed there. We were told the chair was interfering with the wait staff, even though it wasn't blocking any walkways. It seemed like every interaction came with unnecessary attitude. Once we were all seated, our waitress seemed to have a chip on her shoulder. She never brought out our ranch-style bread, rarely refilled our drinks, and repeatedly reached across the table, passing plates directly in front of people's faces instead of walking around to serve them properly. She was also openly talking about us to the table behind us. Completely unprofessional. When my bill came, the total didn't add up correctly. I politely pointed out the discrepancy, but instead of checking it, she came back with the menu to prove I was wrong. Ironically, the menu proved she was the one who made the mistake. She even tried telling me I was comparing the menu price to a receipt total that included tax. I had to explain that the tax was calculated separately at the bottom of the receipt. Rather than apologize, she walked away and sent the manager over. Thankfully, the manager immediately recognized the error and corrected my bill. By that point, my family had enough and just wanted to pay and leave. To make matters worse, they were told they couldn't pay until everyone at the table had received their bill. The food didn't make up for the service, either. It was hot and humid inside the restaurant, the burger was as tough as a hockey puck, they were out of beef ribs so we settled for pork ribs that were mostly fat, and the steak lacked any flavor. To top it off, the restrooms had a strong urine smell, which only added to the overall poor experience. The only highlights of the evening were the company we were with and the Costco birthday cake we brought ourselves. I had read the recent reviews before coming and hoped people were exaggerating. They weren't!!! I wanted to give this place another chance because of the great memories we had at the one in Colton, but sadly, those memories are all that's left. If you're thinking about making the drive because of nostalgia like we did, I'd recommend reading the recent reviews first. I wish we had listened. We won't be returning. Our table ordered the center-cut steak with ribs, a cheeseburger, the cowgirl-cut steak, and the chicken with ribs. The good: * The potato salad was excellent. * The ranch-style beans were very good. * The cornbread was also very good. * Both center-cut steaks were cooked correctly, had good flavor, and were the highlight of the meal. * The cowgirl-cut steak was good, and the chicken was also well prepared. The bad: The complimentary bread they bring to the table was thick-cut, extremely dry, and honestly not worth eating. The cheeseburger was an absolute disaster. It was cooked into what can only be described as a hockey puck with charcoal on the outside--a briquette, not a burger. The biggest disappointment was the ribs. They were so dry and tough they could have been used to retread a semi-truck tire. They tasted like they'd been sitting around all day turning into rubber. They were completely inedible and never should have been served. The hostess wasn't much better. The restaurant was nearly empty, yet we were seated right next to the swinging kitchen doors where every time they opened, a blast of hot air came out. There were plenty of other open tables throughout the restaurant, so this made no sense. When we told our server who was very pleasant the ribs were inedible, she did offer to bring another order. We declined because if the kitchen couldn't get them right the first time, we weren't interested in taking another chance. There was no offer to remove the ribs from the bill, no complimentary dessert, and no attempt to make things right beyond offering another plate of what we assumed would be the same dry ribs. Our bill for five people came to $265 before tip, and the overall experience simply wasn't worth the money. There are far better steakhouses and barbecue restaurants in the area. Based on this visit, I'd recommend spending your money somewhere else. read more

Service was great, we had a very nice waitress and when we ordered our foods we were also given a bit of ribs to compensate for the wait for the food by either the manager or the owner as they ran a bit behind in the kitchen, which was very nice. The ribs were delicious, but we weren't too impressed with the ribeye and T-bone was good. We asked to substitute the sides but we thought it came with the meal as I am diabetic and we weren't told about any extra costs which should have been made aware to the customer. The ambiance is a bit dark but cozy. It is hillarious to see all the ties that were hanging in the restaurant! I was laughing at that. read more

Locals had told me about this place for years and how they'll literally cut your tie if you walk in wearing one. So I finally got to see if the rumors were true... and they WERE! They cut off all our ties!! Which honestly, it made for such a fun, unique experience, and I could totally see myself coming back From the moment you walk inside, you're greeted with walls full of previously snipped ties, which was pretty cool to see and definitely added to the anticipation haha As for food, we ordered the Space Dusts, Orange Tequila Martini, Steak & Chicken, Grilled Salmon, baked potatoes, beans, cornbread, and side salads. The steak and salmon were great and I loved that the baked potatoes were a good size and came with cheese, sour cream, green onions, and butter. Went here last night for dinner with my boyfriend's family for his brothers bday! I haven't been here in over 10 years, I know this is a San Dimas staple. Its dark, rustic, lively, & all about comfort food. I remember all the quirks to this place & think the whole tie idea is hilarious so I told my boyfriend to make sure to wear one! Haha It was a packed house when we arrived, parking lot & restaurant. We got seated right away since we had reservations so that was helpful! Service was great we had a nice lady who got us all we needed throughout the night! As for the food... mmm there are some things that lacked. The bread wasn't the best, it was dense not soft, plain, not warm pretty much nothing to it. We all ordered different cuts of steak, the trail boss (which was okay I feel like it lacked in seasoning or just salt but the cook was fine) cowboy steak (which we ordered medium rare but came out medium/ medium well) so they were nice enough to bring him a new one so that was great on the service part, everyone else liked their options from the ribeye (he actually just wished there was a bone in ribeye), the NY steak & the filet they all enjoyed. As for the sides, Mac & cheese was just okay. The sautéed mushrooms were good! Corn bread was tasty! Baked beans were alright. The staff also sang happy birthday & gave ice cream to my boyfriend's brother for this bday! They did cut the tie off my boyfriend which we all found humorous & fun! To wrap it up. We got the ribs and steak combo in order to try different things and share. The ribs were VERY good, but the steak was a bit chewy, ordered medium. It was $48. I don't go to steakhouses much at all, but that seems like a ton for what was served. It came with salad, beans, and bread. The brown (rye?) bread was so sweetly delicious! And great dipped in the beans, too. We had mentioned to the waitress that it was our first time, and then we ordered. Later, while we were waiting for our food, she brought us a small plate of ribs and told us she had been informed it was our first time (I guess by the host, who we had also mentioned it to too), and that all first-timers get free ribs. That was fun to hear, and of course we appreciated it, but if we had known that we would not have ordered ribs as our main! The other unexpected thing was finding out from our receipt that sharing a meal cost $4.50 extra! What?! First and foremost: the service was wonderful, the staff are amazing. The problem is it seriously felt like we were in a McDonald's drive thru with management's system of calling out timed warnings for their servers. Management treats the servers like everything they do needs to be timed, and with how high the prices were for the food, which was good but not worth the price, its clear management only cares about money, nothing else. The way the staff was treated with "2 minute warning on table 2" made it feel like management really hates their servers. The servers were amazing despite atmosphere. The problem is entirely with management. Dont treat servers like dirt. Until management cares about its employees and an actual dining atmosphere, not a drive thru experience, I will not be coming back. read more

I feel slightly bad giving PInnacle Peak's a 3 but I do so to encourage the management to take a look at the place. I could have gone 1 or 2 on some aspects and a 5 on others. Why is that? 1 - service was a 5, very attentive, friendly and helpful 2 - bread was okay, didn't really have an opinion 3 - cornbread and butter was awesome 4 - server recommended the French Dip - it was okay - meat was a bit thick and fatty and bread was burnt 5 - getting feedback from our table everyone enjoyed it and fun to see a neighbor's table have ties cut off Overall, it feels dark and a bit dilapidated. I know it's supposed to be rustic but rustic needs to be maintained. I feel for the place because it's a cool old building and I'm sure it's a lot to maintain. Pinnacle Peak has a unique and memorable atmosphere--definitely one of the more fun and quirky dining environments I've been to. The walls lined with cut-off ties give the place a lot of character and charm. It's a cool experience if you're looking for something different. That said, the food still doesn't didn't live up to the setting. The steak, ordered medium rare, was tough and clearly not the best quality. For a place that prides itself on steak, that was a letdown. The rest of the meal was just okay--nothing particularly stood out. On a positive note, the staff were friendly and welcoming, which helped balance out the experience. Pinnacle Peak is a unique steakhouse in the San Gabriel valley. Decor is totally western and the subtle lighting in the dining rooms makes it cozy. First time at Pinnacle Peak was this past weekend. The cut ties that lined the walls is a great idea, pretty funny idea. Wow... what happened? Arrived at 6 pm. Didn't need RSVP because place was empty for a Tuesday night. Less than a dozen people were eating. Waited inside for several minutes. Finally a waitress walking by said a host will be right with you. Another ten minutes pass by and finally a host arrives to seat us. Rib eye 16 ounce medium rare steak wasn't really good at all. It came out warm at best. The baked potato that came with the meal was barely warm. I had to put the butter under the potato to get it to melt. I ordered a side of BBQ corn on the cob. It came out cold and bland with no butter or salt on it. I used the butter from my baked potato... but it hardly melted on the corn on the cob. Horrible! The cold complimentary beans weren't good. The salad was fresh. So it's good if you're just going there just for the salad. Ice tea is terrible. Two things that really surprised me. First the A1 sauce seemed watered down and in a squeeze bottle. Their bread is just a dry cold slices of bread that have absolutely no texture... taste whatsoever and it comes without butter. Terrible! Second: they swapped out my baked potato which was included with the meal for the corn on the cob. The corn on the COB is cheaper. So they made a little over a dollar on the bill. Good... keep it. I still gave over a 20% tip despite the food. Explains why the place is empty. read more

Hate to be a downer, but I guess eventually time catches up to every establishment and unfortunately this Resturant has seen better days. Lot has change from my last review a year ago. Went for dinner and ordered Cowboy steak and when I got it, it was about a 1/2 inch steak with butter melted on top, no marbling ( understand the meat now comes from Cisco) not much flavor at $59. You would expect a lot more. My wife had ribs and they came cold and dry, apparently they cook their ribs and place them in warmer and when they receive order, they throw them on the grill and warm them up. The bread was cold and stale. Sad to say after going to the restaurants in Colton ( closed down) and San Dimas for over 30 years. we will no longer patronize this establishment . We were there to celebrate the graduation of two of our grandkids. The service was excellent. The food arrived quickly. we dropped $300 celebrating my daughters graduation our waitress was definitely in another place our steaks didn't have the great taste we our use to, then on the food service our appetizer came after the main course. We've been to this restaurant many times I'm being nice about our waitress she could use some training on how to connect with her customers! at some point we will go back but if this happens again we will never return!!!
