For my husband's 58th birthday, I made reservations at Pomona Mining Company with my son and husband at a restaurant. We requested a table at the window, hoping to enjoy the view while we waited for our food. The service was slow, but we found it enjoyable because we had plenty of time to chat and appreciate the view. However, the server's response time was incredibly slow. Yes the restaurant was busy but communication would have been considerate. We ordered three Prime Ribs, three baked potatoes, asparagus, mushrooms, and macaroni and cheese. When the server arrived, we politely declined dessert because we hadn't finished our meal yet. Initially, we had presented the hostess with a cake decorated with candles and the number 58, which was intended to bring to the table for my husband. My son reminded the server as she went up the stairs that we brought in a cake for my husband with candles and the number 58. Interestingly, only my son and I at the table sang "Happy Birthday," and only the candles numbered 5 and 8 were lit. To make matters worse, the servers didn't clear our dinner plates, leaving them on the table with food still on them waiting for boxes. I'm planning to share a photo of this incident. This experience was one of the most disappointing I've had in a while. The service was terrible, and there was no apology for the poor service we received. This was completely unacceptable. If you were to put a nice steakhouse in Knotts Berry Farm, this would be it. I only give it three stars as the hostesses were not friendly or accommodating. I had made reservations requesting a view by the window. They seated us in a booth. When I asked the hostesses if they could put us in a table by the window as I requested, and informed them that I was with my elderly parents and that they were not able to easily get in and out of the booth, they told me that they couldn't move us. I expressed to them my parents' difficulties again and pointed out that over half the restaurant was empty and that there were at least eight tables right next to us that were empty. She responded that she couldn't move us because of the server division. My parents didn't want to make a big deal as they were visiting from out of state, so I didn't argue. However, within ten minutes, they seated others by the window table with our same server... If I weren't with my parents, I would have left... It was only because of them we went there in the first place, so I didn't escalate the issue to the manager. We've eaten there several times and never had this problem. I've always been curious about this place on the hilltop whenever I pass it driving on the 10 fwy, and finally made it here for a celebration. While I'm glad I checked it off the list, the food was nothing to rave about. To be fair, the staff was great. The hostess and our server were super friendly and helpful. However, the food just wasn't anything special. I had the prime rib, filet mignon, and a baked potato. That said, it didn't ruin the night. I kind of went in with the mindset that you're paying for the vibe anyway. The old mining decor is unique and the view of the valley is nice. First time going to Pomona Valley Mining Co., and this review is based on my experience of the UCSC presentation workshop there. We went there with our daughter, and the venue was great. We had complimentary valet parking that day because UCSC paid for it. The ambiance is nice, and the view is beautiful. We first went downstairs to check out the university information, and then we had a self-serve buffet lunch upstairs. The banquet room is spacious. It had a lot of food on that day. Most of the food tasted great, except the beef was chewy. The event was well-organized, and they were very generous. The service was attentive that day. After living nearby for almost 20 years and driving past this place countless times, we finally decided to try it for a date night--and I'm honestly wondering why we waited so long. The restaurant is set in an old mine on top of a hill, which already makes it feel unique, but the view takes it to another level. The ambiance is dim, romantic, and has this charming, slightly rustic vibe that reminded me of Ghost Town at Knott's Berry Farm (in the best way). We started with a couple of their signature cocktails--the Banana Hammock was good, but the Pickin' Mule was even better. Definitely recommend trying both. For appetizers, we had the calamari steak, which was really good. Entrées come with access to the salad bar, and I have to say--the clam chowder was delicious. For my main dish, I ordered the 8 oz filet mignon cooked medium, and it came out absolutely perfect. The sides (mushrooms and baked potato) were solid, though nothing particularly standout. My family and I traveled an hour and a half to visit this restaurant tonight. It was our first time dining here, and our expectations were very high. The restaurant itself has a wonderful ambiance, and I absolutely loved the atmosphere. The food was good as well. Unfortunately, the service was some of the worst I've ever experienced. I have never complained about service at a restaurant in my life, so writing this is not something I take lightly. Our server seemed extremely distracted throughout the evening. She spent time telling us how she didn't expect so many people to keep coming in, how busy the night had become, and even talked about recently purchasing a new car and how expensive cars are nowadays. After our food was brought out by what appeared to be the chef or a manager, our server never came back to check on us. She never asked how our food was or whether we needed anything, and she never refilled our drinks. We sat for approximately 20 minutes after finishing our meal before finally flagging down another server and asking them to find her. When she eventually returned, she couldn't remember everyone's orders, which I understand can happen on a busy night. I asked for a refill, and she quickly left without asking whether my husband or daughter needed anything. When she returned, she brought me two drinks instead of one. At that point, I asked if my husband and daughter could also get refills and if we could have boxes for our leftovers and a dessert menu. She said, "Oh, yes," and disappeared again for another 20 minutes. When she finally came back, she brought refills for my husband and daughter but still no boxes and no dessert menu. I politely asked again for boxes and a dessert menu. She again responded, "Oh, yes, that's right," and walked away. She eventually returned with boxes, stood there silently, and stared at me. I had to ask, "Are those for us?" She replied, "Yes, yes, yes," and handed them to me. She was also holding a bag but continued to stare until I finally asked, "Is that bag for us too?" She answered, "Oh, yes, it is," and walked away again. After waiting another 10 minutes for the dessert menu that never came, I finally went to speak with the gentleman who had brought out our food. I told him that I have never complained about anyone before and felt terrible doing so, but I believed this experience was something management needed to know. He was apologetic and sincerely sorry for what had happened. What made the experience even more disappointing was that, after acknowledging the poor service and apologizing, nothing was offered to make the situation right--not even a complimentary dessert, a discount, or any gesture of goodwill. I wasn't looking for anything free, but after driving an hour and a half to dine here and having such a poor experience, some effort to remedy the situation would have gone a long way. It's unfortunate because the restaurant has a fantastic atmosphere and good food, but the service completely overshadowed what should have been an enjoyable experience. What's not cool about it is the fact that they make you pay $10 to either valet or self park and it creates quite a kerfuffle when it comes to leaving. The valet is just a mess! Prices as follows: $50 per adult, $25 for kid, and a crap load for gratuity when your server doesn't even serve you on Sunday Brunch days. The kitchen knows how to cook, but this place really needs to offer pricing for brunch whether you choose to indulge in bottomless mimosas or just drink water. My first time ever coming to Pomona Valley Mining Co which is literally located right off the freeway. I have seen their huge sign many times but just never got around to coming here. I went here early for a Sunday Brunch which is an all-you-can-eat buffet style. There are many separate sections around the entire place. It is rustic and looks like a dark wooden mine. There is a dessert section, hot meats, and a salad area. Overall I did find that the food was pretty good. With many different items that you can get. Not my favorite buffet, but not the worst one I've been to either. The perennial offering of prime rib was very good as was the omlette station taking a request to make my Up Easy eggs sunny and runny with the best of restaurants. But the biscuits and gravy, miner potatoes, and ham was very poor. The waffles and simple chafing dish scrambled eggs, but that's very routine stuff for a buffet. The service was great though. The free mimosas and juices were provided quickly, and the dirty plates were getting cleared as fast as they piled up. They even took special requests like Bloody Mary's like champs. Lastly, I thought the ambience was fair. I found the hallways too tight and inconvenient. I also thought the layout of the buffet stations confusing and ill-planned. They should've all been grouped together more tightly, or even have a dedicated dining room set aside from them instead of so spaced out. I almost didn't know there were three locations--like a scavenger hunt--to the buffet. I also found the mining theme kitschy and inauthentic as they very easily could've had the actual decor from mining outfits shipped in. I'm very disappointed. After coming here many many times for celebrations today just put the cherry on top. We went with a party of 12 for my birthday brunch. Brunch of all things. Were serves need to make sure your drinks are full and your plates are cleaned and bills are correct. We had Jessica as our waitress this morning, we would have been in and out if it wasn't for the server disappearing for a majority of the meal. I had my drink ( Mason jar) filled 2x in a 2 hr experience. I had no idea the mimosas were included. We had to literally go and look for her and ended asking a host to bring it out. This experience was very disappointing. My bf and I share an entree and they will split the steak for the both of you. They do charge you $10 I believe to share a plate. I live in Northern California and every time I fly into the LA area I do my best to stop into Pomona Valley Mining co! Their salad and soup bar is so fresh & delicious, homemade soups as well. One word well two words, CHEESY BREAD, it's so good! Complimentary as well! My entree go to is their rib eye steak and they make very good cocktails, I love the old fashioned wit cafe de olla syrup. I "try" to make it out to this restaurant at least once every 1-2 years. I've continued coming here since my 1st time after moving to SGV from West Los Angeles in 2017. It's still one of my splurge-favorites because of the view that overlooks all of Pomona. It's a gorgeous view especially at night that you will get to experience from "almost" every table in the restaurant. Great place to take pictures. And the service is great too-friendly, humorous if you want, you don't get forgotten, waiters are well informed of menu selections and are great at making suggestions and their "full bar" mixologist isn't stingy either. My Dirty Martini was served very well in a chilled glass and was generous with the Grey Goose. Everything I've ordered here is always cooked to perfection and perfectly how you request your steaks done. Even the bake potato is perfectly cooked. I can't not ever have the baked potato with my dinner-it's sooo amazing. This time, I ordered the Chicken Breast (with lemon butter sauce) and Ribs (1/2 rack of bbq ribs) with my baked potato of course and grilled asparagus to share with my date. He ordered the Baby Back Pork Ribs (full rack) with a baked potato as well. Additionally, all entree's include the soup & salad bar. I was trying to hold off for my entree but I was dying to try the tortilla and clam chowder soups. Both yummy! Neither soup was my favorite because they were both delicious. Let me just tell you how my entree was-the chicken breast is roasted. It was one of the best roasted chicken breasts I've had. It was a good thick size and not one inch of it was dry. In fact, it almost felt like it melted in my mouth! Even at the thickest part of the breast. I was actually very impressed how evenly cooked it was, the flavor and how I could swear it melted in my mouth. Seriously! The ribs are also and always excellent-the bbq sauce is not overly sweet, and the meat falls off the bone easily. I've had the ribs here several times because every time I come here someone always orders it. I usually order steaks and they are all excellent as well but my favorite is the Fillet Mignon. This time I wanted to try their chicken because I've never had chicken here. That being said, whether you order the chicken, steak, ribs, lobster tail, scampi, shrimp or prime rib, I'm positive it'll be cooked perfectly, taste amazing and you'll be satisfied. I've never been to a special event party here, but I do know they can accommodate that and they do have an upstairs (I've never been but for special events). If you're coming for dinner I recommend making reservations especially if you want a table at the window. I've sat at the window tables and also behind them. I do prefer behind the window tables at a booth because it's more comfortable and I still have a great view. Regardless where you sit, you'll still enjoy the view and your meal. I'm not sure if it's just my luck, but each time I've come here for dinner, they seem to always play a good blend of relaxing music (music by artists you'll recognize) that is romance focused, nice and everyone can enjoy. Inside, it's decorated like you're inside a gold mine so it's not lit up with strong lighting all over. Just enough lighting to see well while still keeping it at that romantic ambiance. Oh...and I almost forgot-we ordered the chocolate cake to-go, and after having it later, I wished we ordered 2 slices (because it was that good if you're a chocolate lover like me that wanted to keep it all for myself) even though one slice was more than enough to share. It's a generous slice. It was moist and bursting in rich chocolate cake flavor. Not too sweet or sugary like when I make it at home. lol Thinking of it now makes me want to pickup a slice. If you've never been here, I highly recommend. I've been here for my Birthday, just any day with a friend, for other celebrations and I've never been disappointed. If you check out their website, you'll see that they do have special dinner events throughout the year with special exclusive menu's, a holiday menu and other things. They do have a special event coming up in February for Valentine's Day. The menu and event looks great and perfectly planed for romance in February with your special someone. When I return next time, I think I'm going to go for the Filet and Lobster Tail because again, I love filet mignon especially theirs and I haven't had their lobster or any of their seafood plates yet, or I'll try them for brunch. I had the ribeye and my wife had filet and scallops. Her steak was over cooked and the scallops were okay, not great-not the worst. My ribeye was a bit overcooked as well. Because we had a larger party our table was towards the back away from the windows so we weren't able to enjoy the view. IMO the brunch is a bargain at $47/pp including free flowing champagne. Highlights were the peeled shrimp, mussels, crab legs, standard American breakfast options, bbq pork/beef ribs, beef/chicken fajitas, and of course the prime ribs. Dessert was very basic with squares of basic cakes and cookies. The food dishes were always refilled promptly, clean plates were always available, and used plates were picked up promptly. More importantly the champagne glasses were always refilled quickly. Only downside is food is spread across 3 rooms through narrow passageways so at times there is some congestion. Unfortunately, my experience at Pomona Mining Company was disappointing. We had to pay $10 for self-parking, which made no sense when valet was also $10. We were told it was because they were busy with weddings and graduations, but it still felt inconvenient for guests. The steak was just okay, especially for a restaurant that's supposedly known for its steaks. The soda was flat, the water tasted like straight tap water, and we had to serve ourselves water throughout the meal. This place is a nice spot but I feel like it is overpriced. You spend $50 on a slice of salmon only & have to buy the sides separately . $6 for a "shareable" side of veggies but it was just a single portion. You can get a salad bar with your food it was decent & Cheesy bread was okay. staff was very nice, Just overpriced for what you get. read more

One of the worst experiences I have had for a $400 dinner. I am pretty sure the restaurant is decent. But the valentine set dinner on the upper level was a joke. Steak was well done and dry. Atmosphere is horrible. Servers were probably temp as it was very unorganized. Total ripoff. read more

Came here with friends for a bachelorette lunch. This place is a hideaway in the middle of the city. Driving up the hill, there is a view (albeit of the freeway) and a large parking lot. You go down stairs into the restaurant and check in with the hostess. There are lots of big parties there TVs with sports on. Lots of big parties are there too. This place can host weddings/events. We came for the brunch buffet and there was an impressive spread. There was a carving station, eggs Benedict station, waffle, omelette station. There's a section for Mexican bfast with chilaquiles and salsas. Then there's American breakfast food like scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, crepes (though weirdly rolled and steamed to a mush together), rice pilaf, blanched veges. There is also menudo, seafood, basic salad bar. Sounds impressive! Tastes ok. Great for events. What makes it worth it is the unlimited champagne. Really upsetting experience. We have been to the Orange County mining co many times and have always enjoyed our experience. Decided to take my husband's parents to Pomona Valley tonight and will never go back. Hosts were nice and shared that our table wasn't ready just yet so we should enjoy the bar while we wait, which we did. We closed out our bar tab once we were notified that our table was ready. Our server, Sylvia, was annoyed from the start since we brought drinks from the bar. She tried to hurry us up to order twice making us feel rushed. We ordered and then she disappeared. She didn't check in on us and we were forced to ask another server to get her because one of our steaks tasted like a dirty grill. She never apologized for the food but did say she would let the manager know. The manager did comp the steak but also never came over to apologize for the steak. Disappointing dinning experience to say the least. Two stars for the catch of the day meal, kids meals, and view. read more
