Surprised by the poor reviews but I can kind of see how it plays out. I went here for Sunday brunch which happened to be an all you can eat buffet with unlimited champagne - $49 is a decent deal for this offering, but it is more quantity over quality. The champagne is more like prosecco, and I don't prefer so many places calling it champagne as a marketing gimmick if it's not actual champagne. The beef ribs, prime rib, and chilaquiles were great, while the shrimp, crab legs, fajitas, and most of the salad offerings were very poorly executed. I'd advise to take a little of each to find what's good so you can freely enjoy the subsequent rounds. I like the ambience here - I can see the potential of a nice dinner setting by the windows but during the daytime, it makes no difference where you sit - additionally, lighting is poor if you sit by the window during the earlier daytime. I like the mining theme which is all spread out around inside and outside the restaurant. Service is okay - some flagging down is required but requests are fulfilled in a timely manner. read more

deep disappointment regarding our dining experience at Pomona Valley Mining Co. on Sunday, 8/30/26. We arrived for the Sunday Champagne Brunch at 10:30 AM to celebrate a special birthday, a fact we explicitly shared with our server and host upon arrival. Unfortunately, our celebration was surprisingly cut short for a 2-hour dining limit which we were unaware or ever experienced previously. Exactly at 12:40 PM, we were asked to leave our table. While I understand that high-volume restaurants track table turns, I was surprised because we have been coming for years, to celebrate milestones and this was never something we had experienced before. The manner in which your team executed this policy was professional , offering a place at the bar lounge, however, two of our party are elderly with one having recently had back surgery and needed the booth set up to sit easily. Instead of treating us like valued patrons celebrating a milestone, birthday and retirement, we were made to feel like an uncomfortable burden and we were forced to cut our birthday gathering short. As returning customers, we chose your restaurant specifically for its reputation and beautiful atmosphere. Regrettably, this experience left our guest of honor feeling rushed and unwelcome. Unfortunately, Pomona Valley Mining Co. feels like it has really gone downhill. We went on a Friday night and the restaurant was almost completely empty, which honestly says a lot. The food was extremely disappointing not one of the sides we ordered was even mediocre. Our server was fine, but the overall management and presentation were another issue. Having management come to our table with a shirt noticeably unbuttoned while serving food and asking how everything was just didn't feel professional or appropriate for a restaurant like this. It's disappointing because this place has been around for a long time, but based on this experience, it feels like PVMC may be on its way out. If I could give zero stars, I would. Drove 20 miles for a new experience, saw the offer for 2 for $75 prime rib dinner and thought it would be a great way to celebrate my husband's birthday. We were served still-frozen calamari and when we explained the situation and offered to just pay for the salad bar we did eat, I was told our prime rib was almost done. After expressing that we didn't want to eat anything else after the frozen calamari, we were told we could leave. I'm so disappointed and embarrassed that my husband's birthday celebration was completely ruined and now we're probably going to have food poisoning on top of it. The reservation came with a note for a birthday celebration and was not even mentioned or acknowledged when we arrived. Once seated it took forever for our server to come and get our order. Sitting on the hill above Pomona is this rustic place that has an incredible salad bar, & soup station as well. The view is fantastic. I remember this place from wedding receptions and Christmas parties. So mid week sounded like a good deal. Hostess was friendly and accommodating. The server was very nice as well. Service was prompt and our drinks were good. My friend ordered a New York steak and I ordered the Baby back Ribs The meat from the ribs literally fell off the bone. We had dinner reservations for my mom's birthday and enjoyed a delicious dinner and had good service from a very friendly server! I would say the ambiance does not match the price point of the menu. There is no dress code, as many other tables were dressed in shorts, leggings, and even arrived with star pimple patches on their face. The food was cooked to our liking, but was not anything that was outstanding. I did write in on our reservation that we were celebrating a birthday but the hostess did not greet us with a happy birthday or relay the message to our server. First time going to Pomona Valley Mining Co., and this review is based on my experience of the UCSC presentation workshop there. We went there with our daughter, and the venue was great. We had complimentary valet parking that day because UCSC paid for it. The ambiance is nice, and the view is beautiful. We first went downstairs to check out the university information, and then we had a self-serve buffet lunch upstairs. The banquet room is spacious. It had a lot of food on that day. Most of the food tasted great, except the beef was chewy. The event was well-organized, and they were very generous. The service was attentive that day. I've always been curious about this place on the hilltop whenever I pass it driving on the 10 fwy, and finally made it here for a celebration. While I'm glad I checked it off the list, the food was nothing to rave about. To be fair, the staff was great. The hostess and our server were super friendly and helpful. The food was good, and our waitress was fantastic. My concern is with how management handled a billing issue. Our bill was a little over $450, but we never received our loaded fries. We asked our waitress to remove the item from the bill, but by then our credit card had already been charged. She asked if it would be okay to simply refund us the $15 or so in cash, which I was completely fine with since it would have been the quickest and easiest solution. She came back after speaking with the manager and said they had decided to void the entire transaction and run the card again with the corrected total (around $454). The problem is that now we have two $450+ charges showing on our account. Since this happened on Saturday, we were told it could take two or more business days for the original charge to be refunded. That meant nearly $1,000 was temporarily tied up because of a mistake that wasn't ours. For some people, that kind of hold can really impact their finances. I just wish management had considered another solution--issuing cash for the difference, providing a store credit or gift card, or finding another way to correct a $15 mistake without charging our card a second time. Has anyone else experienced something like this? Am I wrong for thinking there had to be a better way? read more

I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience at Pomona Valley Mining Company was very disappointing. When we checked in, we specifically told the staff that we were celebrating my father's birthday. Unfortunately, no one acknowledged it or made any effort to make the occasion feel special. We weren't expecting anything extravagant--just a simple "Happy Birthday" or some small gesture would have shown they cared. We were also seated at a long communal-style table. The host told us that once a smaller table became available, they would move us. However, when one did open up, our server refused, saying they couldn't move us because they had already started taking our order. That explanation made no sense. Restaurants move guests to different tables all the time if it improves the dining experience. To make matters worse, when we asked if there was anything they could do for my dad's birthday, we were told the kitchen had closed at 9:00 p.m., so there was nothing they could do. There was no alternative, no apology, and no effort to make up for it. It felt like the staff simply didn't care that we were celebrating an important family occasion. Overall, the lack of hospitality and customer service was extremely disappointing. Special occasions are an opportunity for restaurants to create memorable experiences, but instead we left feeling ignored and let down. My first time ever coming to Pomona Valley Mining Co which is literally located right off the freeway. I have seen their huge sign many times but just never got around to coming here. I went here early for a Sunday Brunch which is an all-you-can-eat buffet style. There are many separate sections around the entire place. It is rustic and looks like a dark wooden mine. There is a dessert section, hot meats, and a salad area. Overall I did find that the food was pretty good. With many different items that you can get. Dined for a birthday. Had drinks at the bar, but had to go ask the host if the bartender was anywhere to be found. Once she showed up she was less than enthused to be there but did provide quick service and good drinks. We sat in the back room by the windows and buffet. Our server, again, was less than enthused to be there. I have a feeling they don't love the 75$ prime rib special. It became uncomfortable when our large party was discussing how we were going to do it. Mind you, the restaurant wasn't close to busy. I unfortunately have been in this business a very long time and am very familiar with the burnout that servers develop. Take a vacation... call out! Don't show up and make people feel uncomfortable. Not my favorite buffet, but not the worst one I've been to either. The perennial offering of prime rib was very good as was the omlette station taking a request to make my Up Easy eggs sunny and runny with the best of restaurants. But the biscuits and gravy, miner potatoes, and ham was very poor. The waffles and simple chafing dish scrambled eggs, but that's very routine stuff for a buffet. The service was great though. The free mimosas and juices were provided quickly, and the dirty plates were getting cleared as fast as they piled up. They even took special requests like Bloody Mary's like champs. Lastly, I thought the ambience was fair. I found the hallways too tight and inconvenient. I also thought the layout of the buffet stations confusing and ill-planned. They should've all been grouped together more tightly, or even have a dedicated dining room set aside from them instead of so spaced out. I almost didn't know there were three locations--like a scavenger hunt--to the buffet. I also found the mining theme kitschy and inauthentic as they very easily could've had the actual decor from mining outfits shipped in. If I could give zero stars for PMC's service, that's what I would give Pomona Valley Mining Company. Ganesha high school had our 40th high school reunion and a bunch of us (50) decided to meet at the Pomona mining Company bar area the night before. When I arrived, they had no accommodations for disabled people that cannot stand. I asked two different employees for a chair to sit in as I am medically disabled and I was told that they could not give me any of their extra chairs in the corner because they were setting up for an event the next day. They would NOT give me or this other disabled person a chair. They had a bunch of tall tables and a couple of lower tables with just a few chairs. They even suggested that I should ask one of our friends who were already seated in the few available chairs that PMC provided for that area for one of their chairs. I found their response to be quite tacky and the man in charge was very rude and condescending and even raised his voice at me after I asked a different employee for a chair. I ended having to leave and miss out on the festivities because I cannot stand for long periods of times. For about a week afterwards I called the management a number of times and they have not responded appropriately and they obviously did not feel that it was rude of their staff to not accommodate two disabled people during a Friday night event. This was very disappointing as I was born and raised in Pomona and when we were younger we always frequented this restaurant over the years for many different events. I was also very sad that they don't accommodate their disabled patrons and I would not recommend this establishment as they lack courtesy and provide no accommodations for disabled customers read more

Dear Pomona Valley Mining Co. Management, My husband and I recently visited your restaurant with our toddler, and I wanted to share some feedback about our experience. Before I do, I want to say that we've genuinely enjoyed dining at your restaurant in the past. Our first visit was about a year and a half ago, shortly after the birth of our first child. It was our first date night away from our newborn, and the entire experience--from the hostess to the service, the food, and even dessert--was exceptional. We rarely order both appetizers and dessert when we dine out, but everything was so enjoyable that night that it became one of our favorite dining memories. Because of that experience, we were excited to return on June 26, this time with our toddler. We even planned to order the same meal we had enjoyed before. We had reservations and were seated promptly. We understood it was a busy Friday evening, so we weren't concerned when it took a little while for our server to take our drink order. To help keep things moving, we ordered our entire meal at once. Our server explained that she would hold the entrée order until after our appetizer was served so there would be some spacing between courses. After we finished our appetizer and some time had passed, our server stopped by and let us know our steaks would be out soon. A few minutes later, however, a manager approached our table and explained that our entrée order had never actually been submitted to the kitchen and was only then being prepared. While disappointing, we understood that mistakes happen and appreciated the manager addressing it. Unfortunately, things continued to go downhill from there. We had both ordered medium ribeye steaks, but when our meals arrived, one plate appeared to be a New York strip instead of a ribeye. When I politely mentioned this to our server, I expected her to simply verify it with the kitchen. Instead, she repeatedly insisted that I must be mistaken. She pointed to the butter topping as evidence that it was a ribeye, even though toppings can obviously be placed on the wrong plate. She then suggested that I cut into the steak to confirm it. I did, and it was immediately apparent that it was not what I had ordered. The texture was tough, and the grain resembled a New York strip rather than a ribeye. I asked if I could please receive the ribeye I had ordered. Our server took the plate to the kitchen, where I could see the interaction from my table, and returned almost immediately, explaining that the chef said it was simply an end cut of a ribeye, which was why it looked different. At that point, however, I had already been asked to cut into the steak, and I had explained that it was not only the appearance but also the texture that was wrong. Whether it was the incorrect cut or simply an unusually poor piece of meat, it was not the quality I expected. A replacement steak arrived less than five minutes later. This one was clearly a ribeye, but unfortunately the quality was still disappointing. Nearly every bite contained thick, chewy connective tissue, and by then I had completely lost my appetite. I simply sat while my husband finished his meal. We still ordered dessert because we remembered how much we had enjoyed it on our previous visit, and thankfully it did not disappoint. Our final bill was just over $200, including a $25 tip, which I felt was still appropriate despite the experience. I drove home that evening genuinely disappointed. My initial reaction was that I didn't want to return. However, after reflecting on it, I don't believe one disappointing evening should define an establishment that had previously left such a positive impression on us. That's also why it has taken me some time to write this email. I'm reaching out not because I'm looking to complain for the sake of complaining, but because I hope this feedback is helpful. The mistakes themselves were understandable--orders get missed, and kitchens get busy. What left the biggest impression on me was feeling that my concerns were dismissed rather than simply acknowledged and addressed. After living nearby for almost 20 years and driving past this place countless times, we finally decided to try it for a date night--and I'm honestly wondering why we waited so long. The restaurant is set in an old mine on top of a hill, which already makes it feel unique, but the view takes it to another level. The ambiance is dim, romantic, and has this charming, slightly rustic vibe that reminded me of Ghost Town at Knott's Berry Farm (in the best way). We started with a couple of their signature cocktails--the Banana Hammock was good, but the Pickin' Mule was even better. Definitely recommend trying both. For appetizers, we had the calamari steak, which was really good. Entrées come with access to the salad bar, and I have to say--the clam chowder was delicious. For my main dish, I ordered the 8 oz filet mignon cooked medium, and it came out absolutely perfect. The sides (mushrooms and baked potato) were solid, though nothing particularly standout. We were in the mood for prime rib but didn't want to go for so we decided to give it a try for a recent anniversary. I will say the prime rib was perfect which was our goal after all. The buffet was mostly good but the restaurant needs major updating in order for it to feel clean and enjoyable. Sticky booths, sticky floor, dark, and hard to trust. But we made the best of it and all found something to eat and enjoy. Others were going to town with the crab legs in the buffet so I guess if you like crab legs this is your place. Ain't what it used to be. This used to be our go to for a really nice dinner. We haven't been there I quite some time, the place used to be packed and there was always a wait. This time a Friday night at 7 pm the parking lot seemed a bit deserted compared to all previous visits. We went in and we were seated right away, which seemed a bit odd. After our dining experience I understood why, it ain't what it used to be. The prime rib was tough, baked potato just ok, scampi and scallops small kid sized portion with what seemed to my wife to be Alfredo sauce. I'm very disappointed. After coming here many many times for celebrations today just put the cherry on top. We went with a party of 12 for my birthday brunch. Brunch of all things. Were serves need to make sure your drinks are full and your plates are cleaned and bills are correct. We had Jessica as our waitress this morning, we would have been in and out if it wasn't for the server disappearing for a majority of the meal. I had my drink ( Mason jar) filled 2x in a 2 hr experience. I had no idea the mimosas were included. Half the time if we asked for anything we kinda got a smirk as in "yea ok" when we asked for my cake it took about 20 minutes to get it together. We had to literally go and look for her and ended asking a host to bring it out. This experience was very disappointing. For the cost of the brunch buffet I would have expected a far smoother experience. The food was great would have been greater if I had some kind of liquid to follow. * The Host Ignored Customer Requests and Deliberately Misled Customers for Their Own Convenience* I made a reservation for five people at 7:30 PM and specifically requested a window table in the reservation notes, as it was my mother's birthday. Upon arrival, the host informed us that no window table was available and that we would need to wait. I said I was willing to wait. The host then told us that the wait for a window table would be about 2.5 hours. I still agreed, as we came specifically for a window table and were willing to wait. After that, the host said we could no longer wait because the restaurant would be closing in about 2.5 hours, and asked us to take an indoor table instead. I then asked if we could be seated first and switch to a window table later if one became available. The host said that once seated, we would not be allowed to change tables. I asked again whether we could simply wait for a window table, but the host said that all window tables had just been seated and that, based on my 7:30 reservation, it would not be possible to get one, so we had to accept the indoor table. However, what confused me was that less than five minutes after we were seated--and before we had even ordered--a six-person window table became available when the guests left. Instead of offering that table to us, it was given to two guests who arrived after us. Throughout the entire process, the information provided by the host was inconsistent with what actually happened. If we had been told from the beginning that a window table was not possible, I would have understood. However, we were first told to wait, then told we could not wait, and shortly after a window table became available and was given to later guests. This made me feel that my request was not treated fairly and significantly affected my mother's birthday dining experience. After we raised our concerns with our server and informed the manager, the manager never came to speak with us or provide any explanation or apology. There was no response at all. I would like the restaurant to explain the policy regarding window table allocation and why available window seats were not offered to waiting reservation guests first. I did not reserve for the "stamped in time" event cause wifey didn't want the food from the prefixed menu. Not gonna lie service was not it this time, who ever took our order was kinda in a bad mood. Wifey ordered the steak ofcourse like last time, she also ordered a shareable side of garlic mash potatoes. I got the coconut shrimp appetizer also the shrimp and scallops with steamed veggies. Well the food was good. They did however forget our mash potatoes. Our refills got to us when I was signing the check to leave. I asked specifically like I did last time to be seated by the window, that didn't happen this time, we were seated close to the wall by a rail near the empty mini stage. Food was good, ambience was not. It just didn't seem special. Felt like a regular day regular meal. Different waitress I flagged down didn't even apologize for forgetting our mashed potatoes. Just took em off the bill. She didn't even offer us dessert. I understand it's a busy day but lesson learned won't be back for Valentines Day again. read more

We were here on 07/02/26 for a birthday celebration. The service was really bad 1/10. The food was really good! 10/10, but the sides for everybody's entrees came out about 15-20 minutes later than the entrees. For an upscale place with these prices I think that's very unacceptable. A few things I noted: there was one waitress for our large party and the large party next to us. So I was mindful of that! Also, I know that gratuity is added on automatically to a large party, and I feel that this was taken advantage of. The waitress blamed the kitchen staff for late sides with our entrees, I understand being short staffed but why assign one waitress to 2 large tables? Why not get someone to help her. This was handled horribly, and she had an attitude when we asked her about the bad service. There were plates left on our table from the salad bar and soup bowls. There was no clean up of plates ever before the entrees were brought out which I think is something that even a chain restaurant would have taken care of! We were not able to eat comfortably and started stacking dirty plates ourselves which still weren't picked up. Just horrible. Our bill was over $550, would love a manager to contact me to make this right. read more

Food was good, even though they first messed up my order, then brought me an overcooked steak. The good news was the rest of my family's food was cooked as asked and they did enjoy their meals. The drinks were far better. Kudos to the bartenders. Ambiance is nice and casual. Very different and unique from other steak houses. Wonderful views all around, pretty much. If you were to put a nice steakhouse in Knotts Berry Farm, this would be it. I only give it three stars as the hostesses were not friendly or accommodating. I had made reservations requesting a view by the window. They seated us in a booth. When I asked the hostesses if they could put us in a table by the window as I requested, and informed them that I was with my elderly parents and that they were not able to easily get in and out of the booth, they told me that they couldn't move us. I expressed to them my parents' difficulties again and pointed out that over half the restaurant was empty and that there were at least eight tables right next to us that were empty. She responded that she couldn't move us because of the server division. My parents didn't want to make a big deal as they were visiting from out of state, so I didn't argue. However, within ten minutes, they seated others by the window table with our same server... If I weren't with my parents, I would have left... It was only because of them we went there in the first place, so I didn't escalate the issue to the manager. We've eaten there several times and never had this problem. Pomona Valley Mining Company is one of those restaurants that's been around forever and kind of a classic in the area. Most people come here for the beautiful views- it's up on a hill and overlooks the surrounding cities. But what's fun is that it has a Knott's Berry Farm Mine ride aesthetic. When you're walking in it's Like you're actually walking into a mine, but it's also supposed to be a kinda fancier restaurant... It's a little weird because a lot of people who come here are dressed nicer than usual and treat this like a special occasion restaurant, but it has a slightly amusement park theme to it... Anywho, I've had good and bad service here- food is mid. Not bad, not nothing I'd rave about. Again, it's all about the views. So if that's what you're looking for and you're good with a cowboy type vibe, this is the spot for you! read more

I "try" to make it out to this restaurant at least once every 1-2 years. I've continued coming here since my 1st time after moving to SGV from West Los Angeles in 2017. It's still one of my splurge-favorites because of the view that overlooks all of Pomona. It's a gorgeous view especially at night that you will get to experience from "almost" every table in the restaurant. Great place to take pictures. And the service is great too-friendly, humorous if you want, you don't get forgotten, waiters are well informed of menu selections and are great at making suggestions and their "full bar" mixologist isn't stingy either. My Dirty Martini was served very well in a chilled glass and was generous with the Grey Goose. Everything I've ordered here is always cooked to perfection and perfectly how you request your steaks done. Even the bake potato is perfectly cooked. I can't not ever have the baked potato with my dinner-it's sooo amazing. This time, I ordered the Chicken Breast (with lemon butter sauce) and Ribs (1/2 rack of bbq ribs) with my baked potato of course and grilled asparagus to share with my date. He ordered the Baby Back Pork Ribs (full rack) with a baked potato as well. Additionally, all entree's include the soup & salad bar. I was trying to hold off for my entree but I was dying to try the tortilla and clam chowder soups. Both yummy! Neither soup was my favorite because they were both delicious. Let me just tell you how my entree was-the chicken breast is roasted. It was one of the best roasted chicken breasts I've had. It was a good thick size and not one inch of it was dry. In fact, it almost felt like it melted in my mouth! Even at the thickest part of the breast. I was actually very impressed how evenly cooked it was, the flavor and how I could swear it melted in my mouth. Seriously! The ribs are also and always excellent-the bbq sauce is not overly sweet, and the meat falls off the bone easily. I've had the ribs here several times because every time I come here someone always orders it. I usually order steaks and they are all excellent as well but my favorite is the Fillet Mignon. This time I wanted to try their chicken because I've never had chicken here. That being said, whether you order the chicken, steak, ribs, lobster tail, scampi, shrimp or prime rib, I'm positive it'll be cooked perfectly, taste amazing and you'll be satisfied. I've never been to a special event party here, but I do know they can accommodate that and they do have an upstairs (I've never been but for special events). If you're coming for dinner I recommend making reservations especially if you want a table at the window. I've sat at the window tables and also behind them. I do prefer behind the window tables at a booth because it's more comfortable and I still have a great view. Regardless where you sit, you'll still enjoy the view and your meal. I'm not sure if it's just my luck, but each time I've come here for dinner, they seem to always play a good blend of relaxing music (music by artists you'll recognize) that is romance focused, nice and everyone can enjoy. Inside, it's decorated like you're inside a gold mine so it's not lit up with strong lighting all over. Just enough lighting to see well while still keeping it at that romantic ambiance. Oh...and I almost forgot-we ordered the chocolate cake to-go, and after having it later, I wished we ordered 2 slices (because it was that good if you're a chocolate lover like me that wanted to keep it all for myself) even though one slice was more than enough to share. It's a generous slice. It was moist and bursting in rich chocolate cake flavor. Not too sweet or sugary like when I make it at home. lol Thinking of it now makes me want to pickup a slice. If you've never been here, I highly recommend. I've been here for my Birthday, just any day with a friend, for other celebrations and I've never been disappointed. If you check out their website, you'll see that they do have special dinner events throughout the year with special exclusive menu's, a holiday menu and other things. They do have a special event coming up in February for Valentine's Day. The menu and event looks great and perfectly planed for romance in February with your special someone. When I return next time, I think I'm going to go for the Filet and Lobster Tail because again, I love filet mignon especially theirs and I haven't had their lobster or any of their seafood plates yet, or I'll try them for brunch. This restaurant is not your average casual steakhouse dinner. It's more of a "special night" out kind of vibe. Dinner prices range from $30-$50+ per person which is not outrageous. And for a steakhouse/seafood place with views and an event vibe, they aren't out of line. They are like a "special dinner" kind of price-point. I hope you enjoy this place as much as I do when I go. The Pomona Valley mining company looks pretty cool on top of the hill. What's not cool about it is the fact that they make you pay $10 to either valet or self park and it creates quite a kerfuffle when it comes to leaving. The valet is just a mess! Prices as follows: $50 per adult, $25 for kid, and a crap load for gratuity when your server doesn't even serve you on Sunday Brunch days. The kitchen knows how to cook, but this place really needs to offer pricing for brunch whether you choose to indulge in bottomless mimosas or just drink water. You must continually serve yourself water in 3 ounce glasses. I had to bring four glasses to the table just to keep myself hydrated. Happy restaurant-ing. read more
