It seemed like a lot of locals come to this restaurant and we felt like that was already a good sign! We ordered the gallo pinto plate which came with beans and rice, carne asada and the pickled veggies with the queso frito. It was delicious. The meat was tender and flavorful. We read other reviews so we were prepared on what we needed to do. We got on line and waited our turn. This is a place that the neighborhood comes to eat, we might have been the only tourists, which I loved. Everyone was so nice and kind. We don't speak Spanish and the staff doesn't speak English but we ordered the Carne Asada, Gallo pinto, and Queso Frito. We were astonished at the large portions and the reasonable price-$16 per platter! There is a little shop at the back of the restaurant where you can buy drinks. All food is packaged to go and many people did take out their food, but we ate in the adjacent dining room. We couldn't find a bathroom, so be forewarned. Now, the food! The Steak was tender and perfectly seasoned. Very delicious! The rice and beans were very good. And the fried cheese was yummy. My husband ate every drop of food, but I just couldn't finish the rice. The eggs with chorizo didn't have any flavor, my husband bought a fried tortilla with fried cheese which they call repocheta, the price was so high for that type of food. And I've ordered an order the carne en baho, let me tell you, that was the worst one I've tried in my whole life. The meat they didn't even cut it the way carne en baho should be cut. When I saw the lady serving that ugly, big piece of meat I thought it was a big piece of yuca; just imagine the way that meat was cut and cooked, and didn't have any flavor at all. Was a wonderful, unique culinary experience. My first experience with Nicaraguan food, and I was not disappointed (and neither were my friends). The only tricky thing is that their menu is not posted, and if you don't speak Spanish, it may be tricky to know what to order, but the workers are kind, and the other folks in line were incredibly helpful for translating the food and giving suggestions. We got the carne asada, rice and beans, fried cheese and plantains. The steak was amazing, and so worth it. The fried cheese was a texture I had never eaten before, but it was tasty, and kind of fun to eat. Additionally, I asked for the chicken and potato stew that only had potatoes in it, but really enjoyed the flavors, and the potatoes were perfectly soft, so I think I would have only enjoyed it more with the chicken. I don't like plantains broadly, but my friends really enjoyed theirs (and mine!). We also got a dessert with sweet cheese (photo included), which was surprising and very yummy. A hint of cinnamon, a nice texture from the cheese, my friend said the dough tasted like "raw Pillsbury," which is definitely a compliment. I do wish I knew the real names and descriptions of the foods, but my stomach was oh so very full and happy. A kind girl in line told us to get the cacao drink from the back of the restaurant. It was not my favorite, and had a hint of some fruit (banana?) that I may or may not be hallucinating. She swore by it though, so it may be worth trying, in case it works for your taste buds! The food was absolutely delish, the servings were huge and there is even a little bakery/ bodega inside where you can buy empanadas and other treats. OK I am from the bay area and finding a good Nicoya restaurant is unheard of that. Used to be some in the mission, but they've lost their touch or close down. Once upon a time food was authentic nica. Now is a mix of Cuban and not authentic. Overpriced and the staff is a bit rude as well.

My experience here was beyond anything I expected. As a Cuban-born American I've (of course) tasted the typical flavors that make our Latin American cooking, and can generally understand the fundamentals of our cuisine, but I had never -per say- had Nicaraguan-cuisine. Neither had I been to the Mecca of it all Fritangas (Pinolandia) in Miami. To begin, the location is excellent! 10 minutes out of Downtown Miami is just the right amount of distance a tourist is willing to travel in-land\ West (unless they're headed to "The Miccosukees"... that's what we call the Everglades in Miami) to get a non-gourmet taste of our culture. I'm just saying; some of them won't do it. Sure, Little Havana is only a mile SW, but with so many options for dining there... Pinolandia is better off on the North-side of West Flagler Street. For me, it is in the right spot for everyone to be able to experience it. As if not enough, with two locations in Miami and one in Coutler Bay, you've got options! This one though, is the OG. I took my brother with me along for the ride. Walking in, it is definitely not what you would have expected it to be when you hear about it... I thought it was a sit down restaurant. A tiny dining-space taking half of the room is now occupied by Covid enforced ropes designating where the line starts and ends, and social distancing stickers on the ground. During the "Normal-normal", this space was occupied by limited indoor dining furniture allowing costumers to sit both indoors, or just like I did today, outdoors. The other half of the room is occupied by the display of food being served in very large amounts. My brother and I got just one order of skirt steak that came with Gallo pinto, fried cheese, maduros, a creamy corn and pork concoction, and a manuelita. It was so much fooood even for the both of us! But sooOo delicious! Guys, HAVE THE MANUELITA. Those things shouldn't be legal! I love this place! The staff cares, and the flavors are it! read more

A no frills, straight to business Fritanga. This location is exactly what is needed; 24/7, fast service and straight to the point. Even though its a no frills location the quality and flavor of the food is on point. I would say its the best carne asada in Miami. This place was great I've iced in Florida my whole life and this is your quintessential hole in the wall spot. You have to go with the fritanga special. I did the steak, with rice and beans, and plantains. You must add the cheese on the side. I could eat just the cheese because it was that good. And they don't skimp on food here (especially on the protein and beans). I ended having enough leftovers for 3 meals. Ordered my food and then I noticed there was a little convenience store in the back so I checked it out and it's selling typical nica food items but what caught my eye was the juices. This place is no frills, but it gets the job done. There is indoor and outdoor seating, and street parking as well as a parking lot. Maybe I pulled up when it was the right time I came for lunch in the afternoon I've heard it can be spotty but I'll tell you what the price is definitely worth the value & the service is always great & fast I haven't waited it the line long. Located in a sketchier part of town is this gem of a Nicaraguan place! I found this place on yelp and took some friends over. Parking is free, albeit being on the streets in the residential areas- I was a little nervous about towing at first since Miami parking is so difficult but we were ok! It is cheap- I'm not sure how much I paid but I gave them a 20$ bill and got a lot back for my sopas de mariscos and chicken... you walk in and there's this dude on your right going hard at grilling some legit looking carne asada with smoke bellowing away, and the smell of the juicy steak already entices you that this place means business- there are families and children and all kinds of people here eating, like it's some famous community place everyone comes to hang out at. Sopas de mariscos is a local seafood soup that, depending on where you go can be thick and strong, or light. Either way, it will capture true oceany briney seafoody tastes with lots of seafood in it. You're really eating this soap for the clams, oysters, crabs, fish, etc and whatver you get in this bucket. It is about 10$ or less for a giant 32 oz thing of soup. Probs should get some rice to wash down that thick soup- it's too salty to take by itself. The chicken in gravy was pretty good- reminded me of some curry chicken stew I have had in Asia- Malaysian to be exact, but it comes with rice and a side- we chose plantains. Oops I thought I already reviewed Pinolandia, yum yum! Pinolandia is a wonderful place for Nicaraguan food, good food, and good prices. Their gallo pinto was very flavorful and you can tell that it's authentic. But my favorite things are the vaca frita and the fried cheese. The vaca frita is just a steak, but the spices and strategy that Pinolandia uses to cook the meat is so amazing. After a long day, this is where I would go for comfort food. Now the cheese. I'm not sure who in history thought to fry cheese, but I'm glad they did. Pinolandia fries a slab of hard cheese and I love to each it. I take a bit of my cheese and then the maduros and I feel like I'm in Nicaragua. Seriously, so good. read more
