Sunday Easter Brunch did not disappoint. We made reservations over a month ago. Thank god we did. It was packed. The Easter Bunny was present and making their rounds greeting and taking photos with all the guest. We ordered a chilled bottle of Mumm's Champagne and Baller Bloody Mary. A perfect pairing with brunch. The buffet included prime rib and ham. Cooked perfectly at medium rare. Look at the photos and we tried one of everything and it was amazing. Ambiance was perfect. A solid spot to fulfill your craving for Italian-American food while you're shopping at Hillsdale Mall. Nothing spectacular, but a nice change of pace from the food court. I've had their Sunday brunch and dinner a couple times and always leave with a fully belly and feeling satisfied, but no dishes left a lasting impression. Service is friendly and attentive. There is bowling and bocce ball on the upper floor, definitely explore around as it's much larger inside than you expect! Today I went to Pinstripes for lunch to go again, the last time was about 3 months ago. We got the crispy chicken sandwich and the prime rib dip. The prime rib dip looked so different than before I called pinstripes to be sure it was the right sandwich. They told me they had changed the sandwich- put in a longer roll and added a sauce. First the good- i liked the new roll much better than the old roll, everything else was bad. In fact it was so bad I called Pinstripes to complain and see if I could return the sandwich, but I was put on hold and no one ever picked up. I held for over 10 minutes and finally gave up. The sandwich was barely edible. Besides the good roll and the OK meat, the sauce totally destroyed the sandwich. The sauce looked like thousand island, but it tasted like it had a little horseradish in it. A french dip does not go with thousands island dressing and it was awful. I would have returned the sandwich but Pinstripes never picked up the phone so it was a waste of money for me. My kid had the spicy chicken and said it was ok, but not very spicy and was a mess to eat. The prime rib dip used to come with a side of horseradish cream but no more- just that horrible thousand island like sauce. I want my money back- it was that bad. read more

A while later I asked how long for the other 2 meals. She said did you order something? I repeated the order she said she would check. She never put in the order, the manager came over and said the order was not placed the other 2 people had finished their meal by that time. You have been warned. The Manager replied and said she comped the check. Had separate checks so the 2 people who had 2 meals and 2 drinks were comped. Meanwhile my order was for one drink , thanks for comping me for one drink which was not even mine. The manager could have offered a complimentary meal in the future. As it stands . I highly recommend avoiding this place in the future. My family and I recently dined here and was pleasantly surprised by the exceptional service provided by our server Alfredo. Not only was he attentive to our needs as adults, but he also went above and beyond to ensure our kids were well. We were taken care of throughout the meal. From recommending kid-friendly menu options to engaging them in conversation, Alfredo truly made our dining experience enjoyable. His warmth and attentiveness added an extra layer of comfort to our meal, and we left feeling grateful for his outstanding service. I have only dined here once and the past and our experience wasn't great. I've also hosted events anywhere from 40-1500 people through our company and this by far was the best experience. My wife and I came here for a happy hour on a Wednesday and were pleasantly surprised that in addition to happy hour specials, there were also "Whiskey Wednesday" specials. Both indoor and outdoor seating is available for happy hour but since it was 100 degrees out, we opted for the inside seating. We only had about 40 minutes and weren't too hungry but each had a drink and shared some fried calamari. This is also a great place to get together with friends as I've been here with folks from work. That time we had the chicken wings as well as pizza (in addition to the calamari). All were delicious and reasonably priced. Final note: being located at the mall, the parking here is really easy. That's a huge plus. read more

I know it's busy a lot of the times but usually 2 people eating is faster than the table of 10+ and needs last attention. Service was very slow due to lack of staff and food was ok, wines are twist caps, typical American restaurant food but good for groups and team building events. Pretty cool place right outside the actual Hillsdale Mall. Of course, this being San Mateo and the Bay Area in general, was expecting high prices, but it was higher than even I expected. We walked in and were amazed at the vibe and the decor. Did not expect it to be this nice - almost of Las Vegas lounge vibe. Louder music, dim lights, just an energy to this place that was nice. We asked about bowling and the young girl smiled at us and said the lanes are usually booked weeks out for events. So don't expect to waltz in and bowl. We asked to take a peek and made our way upstairs. Great space for hanging out with friends and downing some beers or alcohols of you choosing. We came back a few weeks later for a pre wedding dinner and it was just as fun. Tried out the bowling and vibe was great. Unlike a normal alley where you have some way too serious PBA folks. I'm just there to have fun. Food is a touch above average. High class bar food, if I may. But not too shabby. Be back soon! read more

Pinstripes is one of the cleanest bowling alley that I went to in a long time. They have two bars (upstairs/downstairs), table dining downstairs, and restaurant quality foods. It's located at Hillsdale mall so parking can be easily accessible. It tends to be crowded on the weekends, so be ready to wait before the food gets to your table. The two times I went to Pinstripes was for bowling and dining. For bowling, the bowling area is so spacious and clean. We were able to play while the server went back and forth with our food and drinks. We ordered: calamari, pigs in a basket, cocktails and wines and they were way above average compared to other bowling places. For dining, I ordered wings 9/10, jambalaya 10/10, truffle fries 10/10, and a mango cocktail 10/10. The only reason I gave Pinstripes 4/5 stars is because on both occasions I went there they forgot to give me one of my orders. They tend to get busy, so I understand mishaps can happen. But expect to wait 30+min on a busy day to get your food. I still recommend checking this place out since it's one of the better bowling places in the area. read more

Went for lunch on a beautiful 70F Friday with a slight breeze - sat outside and enjoyed the people watching - husband ordered what was basically a semi fancy salami sandwich with Italian dumpling soup and I ordered a pizza with prosciutto, arugula, figs, and cheese - the food was better than average, though salty - we were both downing glasses of water later that day - but we had pleasant service and we weren't rushed in any way - water was refilled, smile on the waiters face - lovely to have good service these days - bathrooms were clean - will return to try more of the food while the weather stays nice. They have daily specials like bottomless spaghetti and chop salad (salad is great) BOGO 2 for 1, Kids eat free, half off drinks, bottomless mimosas, and happy hour 3-6 M-F. What we enjoy is there has been very little turnover, Maya has been our fav server for years and we are connected with her. This was an upside surprise. I've been here twice for parties at the bowling alley and found the party food very lacking. Fortunately the actual dinner food was very good hence the nice surprise. Got the cowboy burger which had a mild grilled jalapeño on top. The burger was cooked perfectly medium rare and the mixture of flavors with the fried onion ring was incredible. The only disappointment burger patty itself was much too small for something called a "cowboy burger" especially one that was $20. My guess is it was only 4 ounces. Burrata and squash salad was good as well as the vodka gnocchi. We celebrated a birthday and the complimentary hot fudge sundae was a really nice touch. The Parmesan fries with the burger could use more flavor. Mine were served cold. Told our server who handled it perfectly and brought some hot fries in exchange. Service in general was really good. This comment was way overdue. We had a big party here for my son in law's birthday. We reserved the room overlooking the street. The service was nice and foods were okay. However, after we ate and sang happy birthday with a special order Ube Cake that was specially baked, so nice and expensive, we all rush upstairs to play bowling. We told the server that we will eat the cake upstairs in the bowling table as our time is limited and would like to enjoy playing bowling. The server said, sure will bring it upstairs. So the Manager came back and brought the bad news that the cake was dumped in the trash by another server who was helping cleaning up the private room. My daughter did not make a big fuss out of that bad news. However, I was livid the fact that a cake was not even eaten neither touched and it was still whole cake and specially made Ube Cake. How can someone be so stupid and not thinking before dumping a nice cake and without asking questions to their Manager or to anybody before disposing a whole cake???? The Manager replaced the cake with choc chip cookies and brownies but a cake. I should say, their staff were not properly train on asking basic questions to their customers or to their co workers or manager or even basic communication skills!! All their concern is to clean for their next party. Sad but it is true. This place is busy all the time and time is important to clean the space right away. It is like a production setting quantity versus quality. So when you plan a party here make sure you constantly watching their staff eventhough, you already communicated your expecations to them. read more

I have been here frequently. I live right around the corner, so the convenience is incredible. I love the fact that there is the building blocking El Camino from where you are sitting outside, so It gives a much different perspective and you forget that you are in Hillsdale, let alone San Mateo. There are some servers that could use some work ;) But i have my favorites. The servers are all collaborating together for a seamless experience. If the flow is off? Its probably someone having a bad day, and they need a flagon on mimosas. Alyssa has consistently given exceptional service every night of the week I have had the joy of eating there. Carina and I have had lengthy discussions about what she does when shes not serving, and thats more important than the food. Pablo is hands down one of the best managers I have had the joy of harrassing. He is friendly with all of his customers and servers, however You know you cannot pull the wool over his eyes, He does not mess around. I enjoy being here so much, I actually applied to be a general manager (AND ITS NOT MY FIELD) Im grateful for my home away from home. I havent even talked about the food. The brunch is on par with Lake Tahoe Casinos (not vegas) I leave stuffed and very tipsy from the unlimited mimosas. I have never had a bad experience at Pinstripes. Well. just once. On Friday 5/9/25 I sent an email to the managers of pinstripes: Brandon H, Raul G, Franklin D informing them of a false advertisement of a 20% bonus for a gift card. Pinstripes does not honor this online or in person. In person they claim it's an online exclusive. I refunded my physical card I got in person, even though website said nothing about the promo being an online exclusive. So I purchased it online during the promotional period and still no 20% bonus as advertised on their website They were aware of this on 5/9 as I complained in person and to those three emails. I've yet to hear back from anyone and still never received my bonus. Currently seeking to file an official complaint with the BBB and possibly take legal action. If the same thing happened to you please comment and reach out to me. I'm attempting to get a group of people of who this occurred to so we can seek legal action and help protect the community of San Mateo against such a slimey business read more

I come to Pinstripes all the time, but yesterday was my first bad experience. Sat at the bar one of the bartenders looked really and he was making all the drinks, but the other bartender made me feel ignored. Understand it was busy but she was standing right in front me on the computer and didn't even notice that I didn't have a menu. The other bartender stopped what he was doing and noticed and gave me a menu. I came back. That's right, I came back after leaving a one-star review. Everyone deserves a second chance. We got a reservation for the bowling alley for two hours, two lanes for two hours. It was a total of about $260 which is... a lot... The bowling alleys were busy, especially because it was the summer, there were a lot of kids/teens around. We got to our lane and immediately ordered drinks and some food. We started our game and it went smoothly, except that I think I should've gotten more spares and strikes. There were no problems with the balls this time. So why the low rating? The food - and I'm not talking about the taste. I'm talking about the hygiene. The food itself was ok, it didn't stand out but it wasn't bad either. But the type of food. Perhaps it was what we ordered but it was finger food with a couple of exceptions. But pretty much anything substantial was the burgers, wings, sandwiches, pizzas, etc - all finger foods. Yes, you can use your utensils provided to eat all the foods but how convenient is it? These are normally foods eaten with the your fingers - which is fine - but with bowling? Not the best business model and definitely cannot be sanitary. To be fair, I did see the workers wiping the balls after each group but I did not necessarily see them wipe the inside where the finger holes were (but I also did not see them not do it). The food was okay but the food availability was kind of weird. but also the prices were kind of interestingly high. read more

Who would've thunk the old Sears building turned into an adult Dave & Buster's, but way better! Thanks to my friend Angela for inviting me, I haven't been to Hillsdale since the 90's when Fashion Island Mall was around. Love the transformation to Hillsdale; SF can never have something like this for adults & kids to enjoy, the city is too small. Parking would be difficult. This space is massive for birthday parties, corporate parties, team building, weddings, etc. My friend already had her son's birthday party. There's a bar upstairs, too. Food is nothing like the old school bowling alley with basic cheese pizza & chicken tenders. It's fancy calamari and steak. Can't wait to come back with the family, and check out their specials. I've come here twice so far and my first experience was exceptional. My wife ordered the chicken parmesan and I got the jambalaya. Both dishes were delicious and I would come back just for the chicken parmesan. The jambalaya was very creamy and had splashes of buffalo and and pesto sauce. I enjoyed the spices on the chicken and sausage but I would have liked a little more heat. Both meals were large portions so I was able to have it for lunch the next day and it tasted just as good if not better. We also ordered the bruschetta as an appetizer and that was honestly a little anti-climatic. While the tomatoes and mozzarella were fresh (maybe a little too garlicky) the bread itself was way too soft. I would have expected it to be toasted a bit more. Soft bread bruschetta just doesn't taste right. For desert, we got the peanut butter and jelly ice cream. Flavor wise it was overwhelming but the "jelly" sorbet was my favorite part. It was light, not too sweet, and balanced the richness of the peanut butter. This is definitely something to be shared but make sure you have room for it because it's heavy. read more

We've been to Pinstripes many times. Since we come in the late afternoon, we can't speak about the service and food at busier times. With that said, we have had consistently good, reasonably priced food and outstanding service. There's enough menu variety to keep us coming back, but it is the friendly, bend-over-backwards-to-serve staff that makes our dining experience so pleasurable. Everyone has a smile on their face, is very accommodating, and knows how to provide efficient service. Mention must be made of a standout waitress named Allysia. Surprising fav was the Brussel sprouts! Did not have that in my bingo card lol Omelette station was awesome, great service as well. I have a -1 star because there was a glitch in the system so our reservation was for 10 but they didn't actually open until 10:30. It seemed like there was a lot of miscommunication from perhaps higher ups and left their employees unaware of when they actually opened. That doesn't mean there isn't a good variety of food; there's actually plenty. It baffles me how this place has the rating it does on Yelp... the food and drinks are actually good for a place with entertainment options like bowling alleys and bocce ball courts. Granted, I was lured in here by an expiring Groupon and was a bit apprehensive at first due to the ratings... but I'm glad it exceeded my expectation. LOGISTICS Located at the Hillsdale Shopping Mall, Pinstripes is in a convenient location with plenty of mall parking and a variety of nearby stores to check out afterwards. The fiancé and I were here on a Thursday night to have dinner before doing an escape room nearby. Fun Fact: Red Door Escape Room is literally next to Pinstripes, so it's an excellent activity to do in the area. They also seem to have live music some nights as well. SERVICE Service was quite attentive despite how busy they looked - our host had given us the wrong menus (for weekend brunch), but we were able to call a server to correct this. That same server was prompt in taking our orders for food and drink. Food came out pretty quickly as well upon ordering - the drinks were a little delayed at the bar, but it was also "Thirsty Thursday" so lots of folks out drinking after the work hours. FOOD Tenderloin Sliders: Really good appetizer... the beef is really tender and juicy. Not at all what I expected from a slider. Plus the crispy onions were a nice touch texture wise. There are only 3 in a set, so I'd totally recommend ordering more so each person can get at least one... because you won't want to share. Tomato and Mozzarellas Salad: Simple, but a good way to start the meal or get a break in between some very savory/heavy dishes. The mozzarella had a good chewy/smooth texture and the tomatoes were plump and juicy when we bit into them. Prosciutto and Fig Pizza: This was really good - their pizzas are wood fired so they get the nice toasty crust. The prosciutto and fig made for a sweet + savory combination. Pizza didn't fall apart either when eating it. Italian Jambalaya: Interesting take on jambalaya! It was more like a very savory risotto with Italian seasonings and sausage. Still very tasty though - it had good flavor, but it's a bit of a stretch to call it a jambalaya. Strawberry Shortcake: Seasonal dessert special, this was a nice way to end the meal. It was a good balance between the shortcake (which was more like a sweet cookie biscuit) and the whip cream and strawberries + syrup. I would share with another person after having a big meal, since it was pretty filling due to the biscuit part. OVERALL Dinner time offerings for drinks and food were pretty diverse. Lots of good items to share with others if you're just wanting to hang out for drinks, and it's a lively environment despite the ongoing pandemic. Even if some of the entrees were pricey, the portions were huge so I felt you were getting good value given the atmosphere of the place. Dined at Pin Stripes for Easter Brunch with my family. They have a buffet brunch every Sunday I believe. We checked in with our party of 8 and got seated right away. I'd definitely recommend making reservations, especially on a holiday weekend. We had a ton of room and a large table so we never felt squished. Our server was attentive in taking away our plates but we did have to flag her down to get drink refills. All drinks were an additional cost. I'm not sure if it was just because of the holiday or normal but my brother had dined here once before and said that the drinks like soda, juice and coffee were included. Our reservation was for 12:30 and they gave us until 3pm to finish. This was quite a bit of time so never felt that we had to rush to eat. There was a good variety of food to pick from. Not huge but enough to get full. They had 2 Easter bunnies walking around taking photos with whomever wanted one. My husband agreed that it was pretty good and we'd come back since it's not too far from home. Definitely going to check out the bowling next time we dine here as well! read more
