Attended my nephew's 1st bday today and it was super fun!! The highlight of it all was the brunch station! A pretty good breakfast & lunch variety left me feeling full!! My fave part was the prime rib! A part of the deal was Bottomless mimosas. They were refreshing and a great way to help me unwind this rest day!! Bowling was also super fun with the family! We literally took up all the lanes. The place was self serve bowling shoes, and they also provided free socks too! Such a great end to our weekend! read more

I come to Pinstripes all the time, but yesterday was my first bad experience. Sat at the bar one of the bartenders looked really and he was making all the drinks, but the other bartender made me feel ignored. Understand it was busy but she was standing right in front me on the computer and didn't even notice that I didn't have a menu. The other bartender stopped what he was doing and noticed and gave me a menu. It pains me to write an updated review like this with my family and I frequently going to Pinstripes since it first opened around 4 years ago, but it is a restaurant that is on a steady decline over the years. The biggest issue for me is just how bad the customer service is here which just feels like a big management issue, but also who they chose to hire. I never complain about service like this, but when I went tonight at 8pm on a Wednesday with my family, the hostess was so rude and unfriendly towards us. She took us to our table without really communicating with us and just plopped our menus on the table and said nothing to us while glaring then walked away. A very awkward experience. I feel like the hostesses at Pinstripes have been consistently bad and 9 times out of 10 the waiters are also unattentive and not the friendliest. I never complain about service like this in reviews, but it has been bad every time I come here for the past year and we go less often at this point. Food wise it's honestly solid, but the bad customer service tanks my rating hard. I always liked the grilled chicken club and prime rib dip. They never miss with that really, but the fries sometimes can be pretty greasy. I've come for the buffet on the weekends a few times. Half of the options aren't the best. The eggs scrambled kinda taste like eggs you get at a middle school cafeteria. All their pasta items somehow are very dry including the chicken. I will say they make their prime rib and ham pretty good. The cocktail shrimp and smoked salmon is well prepared also. Honestly I probably would avoid going to Midstripes again just because the customer service is bad everytime I go and there hasn't been much of a change in that regard. Usually other reviewers complain about it, but just get cookie cutter responses from the ownership without much actually being changed about the staff's attitudes towards customers and it's sad because honestly with better service this is a great restaurant to me especially with the nice ambiance. When this place first opened every one working there was pleasant, but there is just too big of a decline at this point. I always had passed by on busy weekends at Hillsdale mall, not knowing that there was so much activity packed in this 1 location! There is a bowling alley upstairs and event space, with a special Sunday prime rib buffet offering. My husband and I had a great weekday Thursday lunch here, leaving with the intention to bring back our family & friends because we've been looking for something different to do. This would be the perfect place to spend quality time for all age groups (kids and adults), for a good couple hours. I ordered the cowboy burger, and my husband ordered the Burrata caprese sandwich with a side of Caesar salad. My burger was tasty to the last bite, flavorful and loved the jalapeño option there for an extra kick. Same with the fries - no complaints. We weren't too impressed with the burrata caprese sandwich, wished we ordered something else. There is plenty of parking at Hillsdale mall - no problem here. It does get a little packed on the weekends though, you may need to park further. Our server was friendly, ensured our questions about the buffet were answered (he brought over his manager). On Friday 5/9/25 I sent an email to the managers of pinstripes: Brandon H, Raul G, Franklin D informing them of a false advertisement of a 20% bonus for a gift card. Pinstripes does not honor this online or in person. In person they claim it's an online exclusive. I refunded my physical card I got in person, even though website said nothing about the promo being an online exclusive. So I purchased it online during the promotional period and still no 20% bonus as advertised on their website They were aware of this on 5/9 as I complained in person and to those three emails. I've yet to hear back from anyone and still never received my bonus. Currently seeking to file an official complaint with the BBB and possibly take legal action. If the same thing happened to you please comment and reach out to me. I'm attempting to get a group of people of who this occurred to so we can seek legal action and help protect the community of San Mateo against such a slimey business read more

We've been to Pinstripes many times. Since we come in the late afternoon, we can't speak about the service and food at busier times. With that said, we have had consistently good, reasonably priced food and outstanding service. There's enough menu variety to keep us coming back, but it is the friendly, bend-over-backwards-to-serve staff that makes our dining experience so pleasurable. Everyone has a smile on their face, is very accommodating, and knows how to provide efficient service. Mention must be made of a standout waitress named Allysia. Not only does she remember regular guests like ourselves, but she always has an engaging manner to go with her wonderfully attentive service. read more

All you can eat brunch you can make reservations online. Today was holiday brunch $45 and if you want you can add $28 for bottomless mimosas/berry sangrio/aperol spritz. Got two rounds of prime rib. The end has great flavor but was more on the well done side but still very juicy and really appreciated the horseradish cream. Not over powering with horseradish but enough to get a little kick. Surprising fav was the Brussel sprouts! Did not have that in my bingo card lol Omelette station was awesome, great service as well. I have a -1 star because there was a glitch in the system so our reservation was for 10 but they didn't actually open until 10:30. Pinstripes has been open for business since late 2019, and they have situated themselves in the newly added section of Hillsdale Mall in San Mateo. They're perfectly setup for outdoor dining and to have the whole family hang out in the surrounding area before or after your meal here at Pinstripes. You can make a reservation via your Yelp app which is convenient. I have dined here three times, most recently to celebrate me last weekend. The menu is purely solid Italian/American fare and pricing here is reasonable. Their drinks are stiff, and the bartender even came out to our table to confirm the relatively unique drink my friend had wanted us to try. Overall though, I do wish they would work on consistency of service, namely checking in on us more frequently and when we ask for a condiment(such as tabasco sauce) that it wouldn't take 2 reminders for our server to remember(granted it was a busy Saturday evening). Luis was amazing and provided wonderful service! He was friendly, attentive, made helpful suggestions and we enjoyed our dinner out in large part to his work. My friend and I dined with our girls and we've both previously worked over a decade in the service industry so we appreciate all the little things Luis did to make our dinner memorable. My first time visiting the Hillsdale Mall area ever was such a treat and this restaurant had the best flatbread pizza I've eaten in such a long time. My cousin and I came around dinner time to eat before watching a movie next door and didn't have to wait as we sat at the bar downstairs. There's a Bar upstairs as well but there was a party upstairs so we chose to sit downstairs where it was less crowded. We ordered a Margherita Flatbread, a peach cocktail and a rosé which were all amazing. Nice place to hangout for food, and conversation in the center of Hillsdale Mall.The customer service, and attentiveness from check in, food service, and bowling was top notch!! By the time we took a few sips of or bottomless mimosas, and other really good drinks, he was already placing our food plates on the table. He was and is by far the best waiter I've had in a long time. And if you have been following my journeys, you guys know that I'm big on good food service, and I eat out a lot! After brunch, we continued the celebration upstairs for bowling. It was nothing like I imagined. They have a whole outdoor patio that surrounds most of the building, bocce ball lanes, a bar, a party room, and a full indoor/outdoor patio seating area with flat screen tv's. In the bowling area, you pick out your own shoes and socks from the entrance table, then proceed to your assigned bowling lane. Almost instantly after seated, you have your own waiter/waitress that comes over to take your drink or food order. This is a MUST go type a place!! Unbeatable customer service, and vibe. Today I went to Pinstripes for lunch to go again, the last time was about 3 months ago. We got the crispy chicken sandwich and the prime rib dip. The prime rib dip looked so different than before I called pinstripes to be sure it was the right sandwich. They told me they had changed the sandwich- put in a longer roll and added a sauce. First the good- i liked the new roll much better than the old roll, everything else was bad. In fact it was so bad I called Pinstripes to complain and see if I could return the sandwich, but I was put on hold and no one ever picked up. I held for over 10 minutes and finally gave up. The sandwich was barely edible. Besides the good roll and the OK meat, the sauce totally destroyed the sandwich. The sauce looked like thousand island, but it tasted like it had a little horseradish in it. A french dip does not go with thousands island dressing and it was awful. I would have returned the sandwich but Pinstripes never picked up the phone so it was a waste of money for me. My kid had the spicy chicken and said it was ok, but not very spicy and was a mess to eat. The prime rib dip used to come with a side of horseradish cream but no more- just that horrible thousand island like sauce. I want my money back- it was that bad. read more

The upstairs has pickleball, a balcony and is spacious. The place was clean. We had several finger foods such as: parm chips, chicken parm sandwich, beef skewers, Cesar salad and chicken wings. I came back with a friend of mine for dinner and bowling. While the service was amazing and the bowling was fun, this time around the food was not that impressive compared to my first time here. I had the Puccini to drink, which was delicious. The crispy calamari was pretty standard and so was the chicken club sandwich, and that came with a side of parmesan fries. My friend ordered the lobster Mac and cheese and it was honestly not great. It was watery and didn't really have any flavor, which was disappointing because it was around $30. The last time I was here it was around lunch time and the person I was with ordered the bone in pork chop. I didn't see that on the menu this time around so I'm assuming that was a lunch option and not dinner. I think maybe it should be available for both lunch and dinner since typically for a lot of people a pork chop would be a heavy protein dinner option as well. Especially since I believe it's served with mashed potatoes and veggies. I will say, the staff is amazing. Everyone is attentive and goes above and beyond. They check on you frequently--not just the servers but the managers as well. We dined at around 7 and our lane opened up at 8. We were able to bring our food with us upstairs to our bowling area. We all have off nights and the first time I ate here I really enjoyed myself so I would still recommend this to people. I would just stay away from ordering the lobster Mac and cheese. If you want to go bowling or play bocce, I would recommend making a reservation in advance. This is a great place for birthday parties or just a fun night out with friends. San Mateo has great weather and it's typically warm well into the evening--they offer outdoor patio seating and I saw many people sitting outside as well. We came here for a birthday brunch celebration and from the time we walked in we were welcomed by a friendly hostess. We sat within minutes to our table. This place is classy, fun and has great food. It's located at the Hillsdale Mall with excellent parking. After placing our cocktail orders which by the way were delicious. We also got the bottomless mimosas. Our meals as you can see in the pictures were excellently prepared. After our meal and drinks we went upstairs to our reserved bowling lane and continued the fun with an espresso martini. Located at Hillsdale mall. Was expecting much more from a high end bowling/bar/restaurant. It is similar to a Lucky Strike. Extremely pricy bowling. It was a whopping $29 per person for one hour of bowling with shoes included. The bowling lane is extremely short. They have about 10 lanes or less. It did not feel like luxury bowling at all. The TVs were small and they didnt really play any music. The service was extremely slow and not attentive. We had to remind our server many times about our drink orders. For the amount you pay, the service/ambience should outmatch any dinky bowling alley and it doesn't. They did not meet expectations. I doubt I'll be back again. read more

Absolutely phenomenal place to host an event! I worked very closely with Jewel the event coordinator to plan a memorial service for my grandmother. Jewel was extremely detailed and helpful in the planning process, while remaining respectful to my input and my grandmother's memory. We worked together for about 2 mo this prior to the event as covid regulations changed and our guest list fluctuated. She was able to be a positive light and keep me looking forward to our event. As the day approached, she allowed me to visit multiple times to make sure everything was perfect, including being available early in the morning prior to opening to allow me to drop off decorations, and easy access for our guests who had difficulty with stairs and long walks. The event itself went off perfectly. We had the upstairs outdoor patio and two adjoining bocce courts for three hours on a tuesday afternoon. The patio was nice in the shade and the indoor bocce and bar allowed guests to get a break from the heat as needed. The server and bartender were really on top of everything, from checking me with often in regards to when platters of food should be served, and keeping track of our bar tab. In the end, to go containers were provided to take home our leftovers. They were very friendly and graciously wore masks to protect our high-risk attendees. Even the food tastes good! All the guests loved the food; we ordered bruschetta, calamari, and hummus to start. Followed by the tenderloin sliders (wow!), pesto chicken skewers, feta and spinach phyllo, and a variety of flatbreads. Ending with chocolate chip cookies and brownies. We had a few portions left to take home, all were enjoyed! I highly recommend the sliders and the brownies- those were my favorite! As for drinks, the Italian margarita was unheard of and excelled all expectations- tequila, pomegranate, and limoncello, what could be better! All in all a fantastic day and a fantastic event, largely in thanks to Jewel. I can not recommend this place enough, even the bocce courts were used to occupy the younger guests! I can't wait to come back with a group of friends and just enjoy the space without having to throw and event. read more

We checked out a couple new places in WC and Pinstripes was one of them. We sat at the bar, on a love seat bench, which at first seemed odd but I liked it and the wallpaper on the back wall across from us was gorgeous. The bartender approached us right away, offered water and was very friendly first star, asked for Stolie & they had it, asked for blueberry Stolie & they had that too I couldn't believe it, finally a new bar that knows what a good flavored vodka is or for that matter plain vodka because Titos isn't it. I did a blind taste test and Titos lost. Anywho, we then ordered the tenderloin sliders and the chicken bacon flatbread, both recommended by the bartender but I had read about the sliders. The flatbread turned out to be the better of the two. I wasn't sure about the flatbread because of the thin tortilla like crust but the sliders & shoe string potatoes were swimming in sweet BBQ didn't work for me at all. If you get the sliders I would say either no BBQ sauce or on the side. I am not a big fan of BBQ sauce making my savory dishes sweet so that didn't help my opinion. My vodka soda was $11.5 and the HH Old Fashion was $10 much better prices than our first stop. The OF was different, sweeter than typical but it did make the bourbon drinkable for me If you're looking for a more spirit forward drink, a typical OF this wouldn't be it. My final thumbs up is for the lighting, there is nothing worse than a bright bar and with the walls of windows I thought the bar would be too bright for me but it was dimmer at the bar than in the seats around the bar PERFECT. This looked like a perfect "upscale casual " place to meet up for happy hour ! But Crowded is the whole vibe ! The food was good and discounted HH price made it even better . The poke was so fresh and flavorful, the beef sliders were also great . However, Pinstripes was pretty busy , and one bartender trying to run the whole bar area & side tables , was certainly more than one person could manage gracefully , though, the bartender was trying hard. We did see that our neighbor table , never got their order taken and left eventually ? They left parched and hungry with never a nod that I could see , though they had birthday gift bags , &they were ready to celebrate apparently? How disappointed they looked , but no one on staff took any notice , as they sat for some time ---then exited with out any staff interaction , at all . I also had to elbow up to the bar to get our second round of drinks when food was "dropped, so my plan to go somewhere "nice" instead of "just a bar" for our holiday meetup was frankly a "flop" . Though I wonder if they are less stressed at other times of the year , I assume happy hour is always busy , so maybe being "short staffed" at such a money making bar is simply unacceptable? Their outrageously expensive bowling prices, of (gasp!) $45 Bucks , per person !per hour! , certainly means their posh prices are not reflecting with any sort of "great service" . So overall , that price point , for a mediocre experience , was a disappointment. We traveled a ways to come, the rest group were already in the city and waited a bit for us, but front house staff sat them down as we battled traffic. We finally ordered and the food came out quickly. Our server was super nice and accommodating but also it was so busy that we needed to flag him down often. Food is ok, pretty standard sandwiches, burgers, salads, and pastas. We didn't get to play as it was super bz so no lanes for Bocce and Bowling were booked. The family restroom downstairs was gross and deplorable, would not recommend...go upstairs, it's a bit better. All & all not a bad experience, all things considered, the day after xmas, and everyone's thinking to do the same thing...aesthetically Pinstripes is so modern and glassy and so pleasing, nice lounge seating and booths for our party of 9, it's loud in here but the kids enjoyed...maybe we'll check out their WC location, might be a bit better. read more

Hillsdale Mall built a beautiful new section on the north side of the mall that's packed with restaurants (mostly open air), an Apple store and a few little stops in between. It was 11:45, 15 minutes before they opened, and I decided to wait in the adorable courtyard in front of the restaurant. There are long benches and fake grass in this open space. People started seating themselves at the patio tables even before the clock struck noon, so I decided to join in and grab a high-top table. It was a bit breezy, but the sun was out. The service was a bit slow, but I'm sure it was because they didn't expect the immediate rush upon opening. One glance at the menu and I knew exactly what I wanted. A glass of the Boom Boom and the Prime Rib Dip. Now, I've eaten a lot of French Dip sandwiches in my life, but this was possibly the best. The bagel bun was soft and fresh. The meat didn't have an iota of grizzle. The au jus was not salty and perfectly seasoned (I drank what the bun didn't sop up!) And the French fries were outstanding! Crispy and hot!! The plate came with catsup and horseradish. Delicious!! My only gripe was that I asked for hot sauce and it never came. My lunch was reasonably priced and throughly enjoyable. I love coming here! I've been coming to the happy hour on Thursdays in the past! I had my birthday celebration here this past April & the service was good! The service sometimes can be alright, but I remember last year for a Friend's birthday it wasn't the best. We did bowling & got some food ordered too. They forgot to bring some food orders from the party I was included in. They even charged me for bowling, but I never touched a bowling ball that night. The checks got mixed up too! Another time they brought up food to our bowling party & probably the staff brought the wrong food meant for another table. I ordered food but they were about to take it away, due to confusion. Other than that, the restaurant is cool. Shout out to The managers Pablo & Mitch! They are cool, always bending over backwards to make sure customers are having fun. This place is only open for brunch buffets on Sundays so make sure to coordinate for that day if you want the brunch experience! Pinstripes was a lot of fun to visit! The place is beautiful and lively! The food can be mediocre in some areas and delicious others. My favorite was definitely the custom waffles! The service here was amazing! Part of the Hillsdale Mall, this place is located right next to the parking lot. Our small group of four came here for drinks last night originally, but ended up bowling and trying some of their food. We got the chicken pasta with goat cheese (I highly recommend), the pepperoni pizza (standard), BBQ Chicken pizza (pretty interesting), and wings (nothing special). Shout out to the bartenders for fat shots, and the host upstairs for getting us a lane despite all the reservations they had. read more

Excellent food, cocktails and the service by Bobby or was it Barry? and Rose was outstanding. As patrons this past Saturday and Sunday, we were extremely impressed by these lovely young people who displayed such unique and genuine kindness and customer service and also were so very knowledgeable about everything on the menu and the types of cocktails they could offer. Also we were blown away by the restaurant shift manager who comes by to check if everything is/good. That kind of extra touch goes a looong way!!! Truly great service and eats. Will be going there more regularly moving forward. A brilliant example of a restaurant that shows proper care and appreciation for their patrons. Well done San Mateo Pinstripes!! You all rock!!!!
