I give this a 3 just because of the pricing of the food. We had brunch here because of the convenience. Everything was so expensive. We just ended up ordering breakfast sides like sausage eggs hash browns and bacon and it ended up being over 30$ which I think is ridiculous. We came for brunch Labor Day weekend. It was $29 per person, there were lots of options. I enjoyed the eggs Benedict, crispy bacon and omelette bar. Restaurant inside the Westin. Famished after a long drive. Started out with drinks - yummy. Then ordered the Avocado and Shrimp salad. Never had a salad so awful. Worst than cafeteria food. Veggies tasted like the salad bag greens. Shrimp did not appeared cooked well and had a funny taste. Next, the main course. Spinach pasta was dried and no taste. The sun-dried tomatoes tasted like it came from a jar, a very tart taste. Not fresh at all. Chicken Parmigiana was dry and not cooked well. Unfortunately my last visit was so bad i will never return. We sat at the bar wanting to watch the football game. And we're immediately approached by the rudest waitress I have ever met. I didn't get her name but my receipt says Dulce C. She acted as if I was asking for one of her kidneys when we asked for the game to be put on. Not sure why, it's not like she was busy we were the only ones at the bar at the time. We quickly ordered our overpriced drinks and food hoping not to bother her any further. As time went on more people sat in the bar area and I quickly realized it wasn't just us she was rude towards she was rude towards everyone, in particular a man and his son who sat behind us I won't go into the whole story because it would be a novel but it got so bad she started going off on him I've never seen anything like this! I felt so bad for this father (who had done nothing wrong) that his son had to witness this crazy waitress act the way she did towards them. The only reason for two stars is the Bloody Mary's were good and we have had good experiences in the past. But unfortunately because of this waitress we will never return. read more

I loved the environment of the bar and the sangria was not bad. That is the only reason I gave it 1 star. The food is overpriced but that's to be expected at a hotel like this. I ordered the stuffed dates, which were suppose to be on the happy hour menu but they charged me full price. The dates tasted as if they just cut it open and stuffed it with cheese - they did not cook it at all. I expected a cooked dish. The Caesar salad was not that impressive either. I dont know where I stand on this place. It's convenient as it is in the Westin but the food was just ok. The staff are simply amazing! They make sure that your experience is just about perfect every time you are there. They are very hospitable. It seems that the cooks get a little lazy or just don't care about what they serve because on one occasion I got burnt toast and they simply "covered it" so I wouldn't see it. That would've worked if I didn't eat carbs but I do and I got a bitter burnt taste in my mouth when I bit into it, not pleasant. I don't think I would have come here had it not been for the Restaurant Week prefixed pricing meal. The kids ordered off the children's menu, which was pizza since they were amazed at the extremely large pizza oven placed at center stage in the restaurant. I wish we had gotten the hint too since the pizza was the best part of the meal. I ordered the Caesar Salad which was 5 leaves of romaine, a few croutons and one anchovy with a drizzle of dressing. I pushed that to the side after one leaf. Next was the main course, the Salmon with Risotto. It was cooked and seasoned right but the Risotto was the best part. My last dish was the flour-less chocolate cake, my least favorite of the course. It was grainy and had too much coco. I almost forgot my drink, the Mojito. I give it an 8 1/2. Husband ordered the rib-eye, which was doused in a mushroom sauce. Since I do not eat beef or porkI did not try this dish. He said he liked it but the sauce was a little too much. Even when ordering on the price fixed menu we dropped a pretty penny at this place. Thank goodness we are owners in the resort so we got points for eating there. I will try the lunch menu since the Paninis have gotten a good rating but will steer clear of dinner. We spent a wonderful evening at Pinzimini! Our bartender Andy took great care of my husband, me and our kids after a fun day exploring the hotel and Joshua Tree. He knew how to make the kids laugh and helped my husband and I to plan our next day adventures. The food was great and we had a fun time playing all of the great games! The Westin, Mission Hills, CA main restaurant, Pinzimini has a captive audience, what with hotel guests, time share villa owners and local residents. One would expect a pretty good dining experience. Instead, a poorly managed, both in service and kitchen operation, is not indicative of a Marriott operation. We had tried it last Spring and were disappointed in the lack of timely service and a main course which had to be returned to the kitchen. So, when friends who were staying at the Westin suggested we join them at Pinzimini, we decided to give it another try. Our friends arrived a few minutes before us - we arrived at the time of our reservation. The hostess had refused to seat them until we arrived and then we all had to wait over 15 minutes while she ran around filling water glasses and other" duties" in addition to manning the arrivals/reception desk. We later found out she was also the manager on duty. The service was very slow, even though a goodly number of tables were empty (more on that shortly) The seafood of the day was a shrimp pasta (strange no fish other than salmon, huh?) When the meal finally came, the half potion salmon servings were so minute, we ordered full size (which in a normal restaurant would have been their small "senior" portion.) The guest who ordered a pork chop found it so overdone that it was sent back. The second attempt was the same piece, now really over- done. We called the manager on duty over and she said they had " butter-flied it," It was sent back and the third attempt delivered was only slightly better. When we questioned the manager on duty, because of all the delays, she said they had been over-,loaded with earlier guests. We looked around what was now a half-empty room and cringed. She never checked back to see how the final version was, nor offered anything during our long wait or afterwards. We left determined, not only to never go back, but also to alert as many people as possible to avoid this continuous disaster until the Marriott management gets it fixed. Went here on a recommendation that they have a very dog friendly patio...and they do! :) Had a lovely dinner on the patio with my pup and friend. A great atmosphere with the foliage and water feature. Yes, the food is a little pricey and small portioned, but very delicious. The service was a little slow but it was dinner time. I didn't mind the wait since we were so comfortable with plenty of wine on the patio. They even brought my doggy his very own water bowl and offered treats. I would def go back. read more

We had such an incredible time dining at this restaurant. From our check in with the host Abdul (sp?) to our server Manny and the wait staff, we were well taken care of. I would highly suggest the Antipasto platter, which had 2 types of sliced meats plus smoked duck, at least 4 types of cheeses, fruit and nuts, it was more than enough for the 6 of us. We ate two dinners here, and both were superior in quality of food preparation and service. One night during our stay we ate at a well-known high end restaurant in town. That dinner was at least as expensive as dinners at Pinzimini, but the taste wasn't up to the same quality. Our meals at Pinzimini were absolutely delicious! One evening we ordered the chef's tasting menu, and were very pleased. Our servers both nights were wonderful--pleasant, knowledgeable and timely. Both evenings we ate outside, near the waterfall--so lovely! I would absolutely eat dinner here again, and definitely recommend Pinzimini. read more

I have been to Pinzmini several times during visits to the resort and villas...a few times for breakfast, once for lunch and now once for dinner. We have had different experiences each time. For lunch my mom had a pizza that she loved and our waiter was very attentive. On our most recent visit, we had both dinner and breakfast. Dinner was fantastic. As SPG (Starwood Preferred Guests), we were invited to a special Friday night cocktail hour from 5-6pm. We were offered our choice of beer or wine. My mom and I both had our glasses filled with White Zinfandel. Both the General Manager and the Executive Sous Chef were on hand to meet people and were very social. Just before last call, we had our wine glasses filled to the brim once more. Did I mention these were complimentary pours? We had my 2 year old daughter with us and the wait staff was kind enough to get some fresh pineapple for her to munch on. As we sat and talked with the Executive Sous Chef, my daughter grew sleepy. We decided to have dinner at Pinzmini since we were already there. They quickly found us a booth and my daughter lay down next to me. My mom and I both ordered the Veal Piccata. We were offered two different kinds of bread that were both very tasty. Before my order arrived, my daughter woke up and was very cranky. She was crying and so several members of the staff attempted to calm her. One brought her crayons and a paper to color on, another brought a giant chocolate chip cookie and a third brought fresh strawberries. My mom went back to our room to get her something to play with and that finally calmed her down. But, in the mean time our food had arrived and I had to step outside as I was worried about disturbing the other guests. Javier, our waiter, was wonderful! He kept my food warm and returned with it once my daughter was finally calm. Other waiters stopped by to check on us and each time I apologized for how loud my daughter was. Each time the response was something to the effect of "we all have kids and this is a family resort." The wait staff were so wonderful. Unfortunately I only know one other name of the people who helped, Xochtil. She brought a second chocolate chip cookie for my daughter to go. My daughter, once calm, gobbled down the cookie, strawberries and bread. My mom and I both left with such a great feeling about the staff. And the Veal Piccata was pretty delicious too! It came with fingerling potatoes and some vegetables. Had my review been based just on the preceding dinner experience, it might have earned a 5. However, we went back for brunch on Sunday and the experience was literally night and day! Our morning service was abysmal. Our waiter was Jose Luis. He told my mom that she could not have just champagne, only mimosa. He got our first mimosas and then disappeared until almost the end of our meal. His excuse was that he "shared tables." Well, the waiter he shared with was Salvador and was much better! We had the buffet and it was not as good as I recalled. It is just breakfast foods, with a few lunch meats if someone wants a sandwich. Brunch to me has a nice blend of breakfast and lunch. There was really no lunch option. Where were the salads? the hot lunch dishes? As for mimosa refills, I had to ask a busboy for help - that is when Salvador started helping us out since Jose Luis was off somewhere else. Overall, it is a good restaurant, but the buffet needs to be a little more robust and the service needs to be consistently good to earn a 5 star. read more

For an area that offers amazing restaurants, we expected at least decent foot at the Westin -- which is a rather nice hotel with a beautiful golf course -- but the food was barely edible and the prices were outrageous. Do yourself a favor and drive 20 minutes to Palm Desert or Palm Springs for much better food. read more

Worst meal all week. Hostess was fine, server was friendly, but sometimes absent. Never got water refills or asked if we wanted more wine. Bread lady did come frequently. But waiting 90 minutes from time of ordering to until our bad food arrived is reason for 1 star. Rib eye ($45)ordered medium rare came out well done. Branzino ($34) was so fishy and overcooked was inedible. Left majority on plate. Wife had to take our baby back to room before the bill came since didn't anticipate being here so long.
