We had a great early dinner at Porta Via and everything we ordered tasted really good. The linguini and clams were cooked perfectly with no chewy pieces at all. My youngest loved her spaghetti and meatballs and she is usually pretty picky about pasta. I had the butternut squash ravioli and they were rich, creamy, and exactly what I wanted. My wife ordered the miso glazed seabass and she loved it. I stole her bok choy and that made me very happy. The restaurant is really clean with a laid back contemporary vibe and great music. The AC at our first table was blasting cold air right on us and the staff moved us right away with no issue at all. They were also incredibly kind to my youngest whose birthday we were celebrating. They surprised her with her favorite tiramisu and a candle which completely made her night. Great food, great service, great atmosphere. We will definitely be back. read more

Service was friendly but lacked consistency; our server disappeared mid-meal without a hand-off, requiring us to flag down other staff. We found a gem! When you walk into this beautiful restaurant it feels mid-century modern Palm Springs style. The wood and green earth tones make it feel like a cozy living room in the desert. The service was very attentive from the moment we walked in. We had a reservation, arrived 15 minutes early and they were able to seat us immediately. Our waitress was very kind and helpful with recommendations from the menu. The drinks were delicious and very well balanced. We had the meatballs, Miso Chilean Sea bass, chicken Pollard, kids salmon and steak. The kids ate everything. Came in without a res on a weekend night and were luckily seated immediately. The service was fast and attentive. Love the chill, warm, and hip ambience of this place! Very cutesy, very demure, very mindful -- that's exactly what comes to mind when you step into this space. The beautiful grand doors make for a perfect photo op, as does the entrance area. We came for lunch and they were super friendly -- and dog friendly! My dog Enzo loved it just as much as we did as he patiently waited for a fry to fall (see pics). We arrived right at opening and were seated quickly. They have a lovely bar and a great menu with a mix of American classics, pastas, sushi, seafood, and more. We ordered a burger with fries and a salad, and both were fresh and elevated. They use organic ingredients and offer vegan substitutions, which is always a plus. Beautifully designed restaurant located on El Paseo in Palm Springs. From the moment you walk up, the restaurant gives you perfect Palm Springs mid-century vibes. The interiors are done in Kelly Green fabrics, Noguchi paper lanterns, and Ipe wood. It's absolutely stunning! I love the little corner booth that we were seated at. They are scattered throughout the restaurant and are very comfortable. The restaurant has both inside and outside dining. Where we sat, we watched a table fill up on the outside that had their dogs with them. I love restaurants that allow dogs! Once we were seated, our waters were brought to us immediately and our server came over quickly. Since we were out shopping, we just stopped in for a light appetizer so all I can speak to is the appetizers, but these were delicious! We both grabbed a cocktail, my friend had the Cali cleanse while I had the Seaside gin and tonic. I would say hers was delicious and although mine was good, it lacked a little flavor. For appetizers, we went with the tuna tower and guacamole. I love that they serve the guacamole with both tortilla chips and carrot chips! And the tuna tower was outstanding! Next time I'm in Palm Springs I would like to come back here for dinner so I can speak to their dinners. However, if you want a good lunch, but I think this is a really good choice. read more

I have been here several times and am never disappointed. We did start out outside, but it was a little warm, so we moved to the bar area. The service was quick and friendly. My drink was very good. I ordered the Porta Via salad, which I highly recommend. My husband had the park chop, he liked it too. We shared the crab cakes as an appetizer, they were crunchy, but a little fishy. The server was apologetic, we ordered drinks and food and then the server never checked back in. But the manager sat us and walked past us 3 times and never made sure we were taken care of which was shocking!!!! No manager ever came over after a long initial great! Was really looking forward to having lunch here based on all the great reviews but left underwhelmed. Not sure if it was because we dined outdoors or what but service was definitely lacking. We had to keep asking for our water to be refilled, got charged twice for a drink, and waited quite a while for our check to come and then had to wave down another waiter because ours was no where to be found. The food was also slow which was unfortunate because we were a bit hungry after a morning at the zoo. Plenty of comfy seats at the bar at 5pm on a Monday evening. AnnaE, our bartender, was friendly and attentive. The shrimp cocktail app was tough, so that was sent back as it was overcooked. The sautéed calamari was good, but not as good when we had it 2 years ago. Can't place exactly what was different but last time it was delicious. The beet salad was ok. Everything was fresh, but it was just an ordinary salad. Wine from the tap is a standard pour and good. Trefethen Chard. Cool vibe as soon as you walk in the front double doors great location right on El Paseo whoever designed his place did it right. We got there right before the dinner rush around 4:30. We got seated right away. I ordered the filet mignon, medium rare mushrooms and french fries. Boom my stomach was happy. My wife had the filet mignon medium rare with green beans both filets were cooked to perfection and my son had the New York with mashed potatoes. Cooked to perfection and the flavor was wonderful We also ordered the calamari. Crispy and full of flavor. We shared a specialty cocktail off the drink list. It was unique. Can't forget about the yummiest butter cake for dessert! We were celebrating my mother's birthday and the cake was moist and unforgettable. One of the genderless bathrooms are equipped with changing supplies for their youngest guests which brought a smile to my face. So perfect for mothers with children under 5 years old. First impressions, we thought they may be "uppety", but really are NOT. They are so friendly and welcoming here. Seemed very kid-friendly too! They made my son a "mini bolognese pasta", which was perfect for him! Caesar salad and grilled calamari were good starters. The calamari were breaded so lightly and seasoned just right! The Caesar salad had just the right amount of dressing and topping and lettuce ratio. Main dishes were the rigatoni and sea bass. The rigatoni was good. Nothing too outrageous...it was just okay the sea bass was cooked perfectly; flaky and moist!! The sauce was a tiche sweet, but the sea bass and bak choy balanced it out. *Porta Via on El Paseo* In Italian, Porta Via means "take away or carry out." In Porta Via restaurant's terms it means "to convey the idea of a restaurant experience that leaves a lasting positive impression" according to their website. My 1st dining experience here left me with a memorable experience. But the food left me with a conflicted impression. I've been to their location in Beverly Hills and had a wonderful meal, so when my good friend offered to take me & my wife here to celebrate my birthday, I was simply excited. The restaurant decor is mid-century stylish. It's cozy & comfy, with a lively vibe, and tastefully decorated -- inside & out. It's summertime, so the restaurant appears to be filled with locals & regulars. Standing room only at the bar. The indoor acoustics tho causes a loud environment, so be prepared to shout to your companions all night in order to be heard. I was horse the next day as if I went to a concert. We were seated at a 1/2 booth/1/2 roundtable type setup next to the bar. It was nice. But the AC vent overhead blew out freezing cold air. Asked the hostess if we can change tables. Unfortunately, they were booked. She did offer to turn down the air. Not too sure they actually complied, then froze for 2 hours. Enter Ramon, the amazing waiter/human being, who didn't miss a beat from start to finish and all the special moments in between. He's the type you hope for whenever dining out. He's engaging, efficient, funny and sharp. Takes pride in his work ethic and appreciates his customers. He remembered all 3 of our names throughout the evening. Immediately served bread & water. The bread was disappointing. Thin little pieces that were more hard than soft. Not what's expected at an Italian resto. My 1/2 Italian wife & friend agreed. My friend had a dirty martini, then a glass of champagne, because that's how she rolls. FYI rolled in an Uber to meet us. Wifey's glass of red wine was "just okay...but for $18 a glass should be better." Wifey knows her wine. I simply loaded up on h2o -- refilled by so many different people, without me needing to ask (impressive) But I was drinking "water without ice" and they kept refilling it with ice (not as impressive) We started with Steamed Mussels and their classic Porta Via Salad to share. The salad is fantastico. Simple yet unique. Butter Lettuce, fresh dill, shaved sweet onion, French feta, tossed in a lite champagne shallot vinaigrette that's delicious. With a little Avocado on top. In case you didn't know, this particular salad is what propelled Porta Via into existence years ago, at a hair salon in Beverly Hills. The Steamed Mussels were excellent -- tender & soft, how fresh mussels should be. But most were rather small. Two of the shells hadn't opened. We felt cheated. The sauce was WAY TOO SALTY, lacked garlic & wine. All we tasted was salt and more salt. Major letdown because we wanted to dip the bread in the sauce. But all that salt wasn't worth it. I ordered something I wouldn't eat or cook at home -- a Lobster Roll. Since it was a scorching hot day & evening, the colder version was calling my name. Lobster was pretty good, as was the lightly toasted & buttered brioche bun/roll. But the lobster mixture had more mayo than I prefer. It was more like chicken salad consistancy and not nearly as chunky as other photos I've seen here. The fries were plentiful but underwhelming. I LOVE fries but the potatoes didn't taste too fresh. My wife ordered Chicken Paillard. What a letdown. It was pounded so flat & thin and charred too hard. It tasted how it looked -- dry and chewy. Not much piccata sauce on the plate to save this dry bird. The brown rice tasted old with some hard grains. The veggies just okay. Since we wanted to avoid confrontation during a celebratory dinner, we didn't express our disappointment. But it was apparent to my friend, as she noticed the funky appearance of my wife's chicken -- especially when wifey took more than half home to salvage into a cold salad for lunch the next day. My friend enjoyed her Crab Cakes. She's been to Porta Via a few times. But always orders the exact same things -- Steamed Mussels, The Porta Via Salad, Crab Cakes. Period. For dessert, Ramon surprised me with the best Italian Butter Cake. A Birthday song & candle too. Ramon read my mind because I wasn't in the mood for anything chocolaty, cheesecake or tiramisu. Don't get me wrong, my sweet tooth enjoys that. But not tonight, not after the particular meal I ate. I don't eat much dairy. The Butter Cake is perfecto ~~ extremely moist, not too sweet, with the perfect balance of vanilla bean gelato. Best part of my meal. Believe the hype. Compliments to the pastry chef. My wife and friend had two bites each. Tho they enjoyed it, I was more than happy to polish it all off the plate myself :) Would I return because of Ramon? Absolutely Would I return for the food? He chose this restaurant, he is a regular and has very good taste. The hostess showed us to our table. The decor had a 60s flair to it, a greenish theme with brown and white mixed in. Our booth had a curved velvet seat, very comfortable. First order of business is what specialty cocktail to order. I thoroughly enjoyed the "Smoke Show," made with Mezcal, Grapefruit juice, lime and a Rosemary sprig. Entrees: Brick-Pressed Roasted Chicken with Asparagus; Bistro Burger with Fries; and a Lobster Roll on a Brioche Bun and House-made Potato Chips. Highlights from the menu include: CobbSalad, Shrimp Cocktail, Ahi Tuna Tower, Caviar Service, Butternut Squash Ravioli, King Salmon, Halibut, Filet Mignon, Lamb or Pork Chops. The restaurant has been at this location for two years and certainly has made its mark with the locals and visitors too. The service and quality of food will bring us back for more. Stumbled upon the place while visiting the Vuori store nearby. The place is exactly what I would want a restaurant and Palm Springs to look like. Mid Century Modern decor with an elegant twist. We didn't have a reservation and even though the place was packed we were seated immediately. Menu looked great. It was hard to pick. We decided on the meatballs for a starter and I got the veggie sushi as my entree. The meatballs were very well seasoned and the sauce tasted great and was not too dense so it was nice and light. Served with a crispy crostini that was a great addition. The veggie sushi was beautiful and hearty. I had to ask for wasabi and soy sauce which I always think should be at the table but they accommodated. Server was nice but seemed distracted. At one point I had asked for a soda and I waited for a very long time. When he came back to the table he realized he never brought it to me. Wouldn't have bothered me as much except I could see him on his phone inside while I was waiting. Overall I enjoyed my experience and would return to try other things on the menu. read more
