We decided to order off the traditional menu- I got the Churrasco and my friend ordered the Bistec with onions and both of us had beans & rice as a side. My Churrasco was to die for! Flavorful and juicy. The beans and rice were plentiful and also very good. My friend enjoyed her meal too. The service was very good when we went, about 5pm on a Monday, and not too many other diners. We didn't wait that long for the food to arrive. We landed in San Juan in the late evening. This pizza place was recommended through trip advisor. It has a funky store front presence and is accessible to the many hotels in the area. We entered and found the pizza place has a fun but somewhat messy store appearance. We were promptly greeted and told that this was the best pizza and Puerto Rican food. I ordered a cheese pizza with a few toppings. Now, pizza is one of America's favorite quick meals and It is the most ordered for delivery food worldwide. The pizza took less than 20 minutes to prepare. What we were served was a flat disc with the most odd flavor ever. The tomato sauce was nearly nonexistent with chicken and veggies. Now, the crust had a saltine cracker texture and the red pepper flakes and Parmesan cheese was of little help. This medium - sized pizza was priced at $34. Given the price, I was expecting an amazing pizza and the fact that they also taut t hire pizza being as "artesanal". Additionally, while waiting for the pizza, the owner brought his motorcycle into the very small space, filling the space with exhaust. I have had pizza across the states and in various countries, and this has been the greatest challenge to my digestive tract and taste buds.There are two things that give this establishment an advantage: the store is prominently placed and stays open late. I've eaten here before and I loved it! Super convenient but felt like we were an inconvenience to them. They said we couldn't sit outside but the food was yummy and fast so I still wanted to come back this time. We came in at 9:40 pm which is later than I'd like to go to a restaurant that closes at 10:30 but I figured we could at least get it to eat quickly before they cleaned but they said we could only get it to-go and that we could not order any Puerto Rican food. Not bad. Family liked the pizza. I ordered the vegan burger and it was fine. Nothing to write home about but was a change from the hotel food. This is a rustic little place but it is a sleeper. The food was top notch. We had a ground beef turn over and it was out of this world for the price. Then the special skirt steak risotto was amazing cooled perfectly and super creamy. The skirt steak and shrimp were tender and delicious. The staff were awesome and treated us so well. Surprise, SURPRISE! Piola was better than we anticipated. Staying at Caribe Hilton we needed non-resort food and Piola is in walking distance. When Piola was finally open (don't trust the hours listed- seems like they are short staffed and open when they can/want to.) It's small inside. We had to wait for a table but our server greeted us and alerted us immediately of the wait. We were seated outside. Cool bar area. It started downpouring- no worries- we were covered! This was right by our hotel so we decided to walk over and give it a try. We ordered a pizza for two people to split which was ok but not amazing pizza. And I had a burger and fries. I could not eat the burger as it had some weird seasoning or taste. Staying at the Caribe Hilton, this little gem is just off the property. Unassuming, it is a small restaurant with an even smaller bar....but, it is wonderful! We sat in a courtyard of sorts with just a few tables. After eating some overpriced hotel food, we relished our simple meal of a fresh and generous arugula salad and a thin crust cheese and basil pizza big enough to share. It was the perfect meal, topped off with a Puerto Rican beer, of course. Jose, the owner is engaging and helps bring the food to the tables. His mother, Sonia "pitch hits" and acted as a waitress the night we were there. She is a spitfire and lovely to speak with. I'm so glad we tried this place, we later came back during our trip. We ordered a personal pepperoni pizza, beef & cheese empanadas, 6 wings, and steak cut fries. Food was hot and fresh. We went to Piola Express after a long day of exploring. We wanted something easy for dinner near our hotel. We got the Corn Sticks for an appetizer because we were starving. They were just ok. We mainly just wanted something to eat quickly! They did come out hot, fresh, and crispy but didn't have as much corn as you would expect inside. When I think Puerto Rico I don't really think pizza but it was across from the hotel and late night who doesn't want pizza. The pizza was so good I had to go back and get more the next day. They specialize in calzones I didn't try one but they looked good too. It's closer to NY style pizza but not soggy or salty. You can get interesting toppings or just get a basic sausage or pepperoni. There's a bar on the patio and music playing so I'm not sure if sometimes it gets more exciting but during the days I saw mostly workers or hotel patrons out there eating. We came into Piola our second day at the Caribe Hilton, I must add over priced and under seasoned food @ Caribe Hilton. The very first night we went to piola's we meet with the bartender Ms. Gina (ReGina). She was great and after paying the prices for beer at Caribe Hilton we was so happy to find a place we liked. The ambiance we so relax and the out door area was wonderful with the breeze that we had during our week in Puerto Rico. I do have to say come with patients all business are short handed everywhere and they will take care of you, be patient. The food was good we had pizza both take out and dine in. My co-worker and her husband and we traveled together for this week. We stoped there for dine in pizza one night and My co-worker and her husband like the food and had fun while we where there. In conclusion YES my husband and I recomend Piola's for the food and the Ambiance, and the people. My husband and I went there because he wanted a burger, first mistake. It was the worst burger I think I ever didn't eat, it was raw and all he could say was it wasn't suppose to be cooked like that and what could he do. it took a while to get this and by the time I get another one my husband would be done.
