I don't know why this place is rated so low. The pizza, service, and outdoor seating were outstanding! We ended up eating here because there were no other places open in the area. I'm glad we did end up here because we truly enjoyed ourselves. The wait staff were all very kind. We had four different types of pizza (el bori, cheese and basil, pepperoni, and meat lovers) and they were all top notch. I highly recommend this tucked away little gem. read more

My husband and I went there because he wanted a burger, first mistake. It was the worst burger I think I ever didn't eat, it was raw and all he could say was it wasn't suppose to be cooked like that and what could he do. it took a while to get this and by the time I get another one my husband would be done. This pizza place was right near our hotel and so we decided to pop in for lunch before our outing. Sadly, we were immediately treated poorly. I'm assuming because we are tourists? Yet, I know tourism helps the economy so I don't see why we were treated differently. I understand there is a pandemic going on, but this business is choosing to open either way, so why treat customers badly yet be open for business? The woman assisting us acted as if we were bothersome for wanting food, she proceeded to take our order after we let her know we were ordering for takeout. My bf bought a beer to drink while we waited for the food, and as we sit at the table she meets us and let's us know the tables are only for customers who are eating there. Yet he paid for a beer to drink and wait, therefore making him a paying customer who was eating/drinking. There was only one other table being used at the time as well, and no one else ordering food so it's not as if there was a line of people waiting to be seated, I believe she just didn't want us there. She tells us there is seating outside, which is a rusty, old, broken chair and table. We were so glad to leave the establishment. The pizza was in fact good but the wings reminded me of the wings you buy at grocery stores in the frozen food aisle. I would not eat here again unless serviced by someone else honestly. read more

Terrible service. I ordered a 8 slice cheese pizza, waited 30 minutes. Received a 4 slice pizza. They offered a pepperoni pizza for an extra $2 or to wait another 30 minutes for my pizza. I don't eat pork so I decided to wait for my pizza. 30 more minutes later, I received a pepperoni pizza and was told they didn't charge me for it. My son and I walked over from the caribe in search of some non-hotel, casual food. Place had good reviews and a good variety, plus prices looked great. We were greeted immediately and placed our order quickly, and were told it would be 10-15 minutes. We ordered pepperoni pizza, cheese sticks, and a mixed salad with 2 soda. Nothing big or complicated. We patiently waited outside next door with drinks, since they said it would just be 10-15 minutes. When we went back to get our food, they said just a few more minutes, so I sent my son back to the hotel while I waited. I sat inside near the register for an HOUR waiting, to be sure they knew I was there and didn't forget about me. Not once did anyone acknowledge me, how long I was waiting, offered me a drink, or even make eye contact. I didn't have a phone, so I was literally just sitting there observing the whole time. I had to walk up to the register and ask about our food, and then was I told, "yeah it's been an hour, but it's not ready". Not even an apology. I went back to the hotel since I didn't have my phone, to check on my son. When we walked back, they told me "oh you didn't need to worry about him he's big enough to protect himself". Not the point! We finally got our food and came back to the room almost 1.5 hours after we ordered. The pizza was ok, the breadsticks were hard and inedible, and the "salad" was a handful of spring mix with 5 black olives, and straight balsamic vinegar on the side. Drinks were canned soda. I am rarely one to complain, and it wasn't the wait, as much as it was the rude and dismissive service, that they ignored me sitting there for an hour without even an apology, and never acknowledged me or offered me some water or the canned drink I had already paid for. Prices were fair. But for the quality and wait, I would not recommend, unless you have 1.5 hours you to plan to spend sitting without drink or food on a street looking at a hotel building. read more

We are here twice. The burgers and fries were good. The pizza was great!! The kindest staff! Small out door covered patio dining with extra safety measures taken. It felt very safe. First I'd like to say the service was the best thing about this place. I was seated right away and my server was very quick with every request. I sat outside where there was a nice little bar set up for drinks if you were just passing by on the sidewalk and wanted to stop for a quick one. The food was good as well. Started with the lobster risotto croquettes with a spicy mayo. I very much enjoyed them although there could have been a little more lobster filling. I also had the Lugano personal pizza. I'm from the NYC area where even the bad pizzerias are typically good so I was shocked at how good it was. The crust was very good with plenty of cheese to go around. 100/10 would recommend. A group of friends and I were staying at the Caribe Hilton so we ended up going here to eat on our first day. We ended up meeting the owner Jose who ended up being our server. He is literally the most welcoming person ever. For a group of 6 he was both very fast & accommodating. We ordered a combination of things on the menu, everything was amazing! Especially the mozzarella sticks, I still crave them to this day. By that night we had developed a relationship with Jose when we stopped by to grab some more margaritas after ordering at least 15 from our earlier visit. We asked what time they open the next day, he told us the time but also added that if we wanted breakfast he would open earlier for us. One day he even ended up eating breakfast with us at our table. Him & his family made us feel like family. They are so sweet I swear. The first day we ate here I ordered mozzarella sticks with an extra side of marinara so it would end up being 2 little cups of marinara, y'all know for the rest of the trip every time I ordered mozzarella sticks he would put the extra side of marinara without me ever having to ask. & He was that attentive to everybody's order. His nephew (I think) was also one of our servers at a point in time and I have nothing but praise for him also. 10/10 all around!! We spent the rest of the trip eating at Piola at least once a day. By the time it was time to leave, it was so bittersweet. Jose along with his whole family (I ended up meeting his mom and his daughter, the rest of the group also met his wife) are the nicest, most hospitable people ever. My friends and I (along with Jose's help of course) ended up making an Instagram on behalf of the restaurant so if the family chooses, they can promote it simply because of how much we fell in love with the food and the level of hospitality we received! @Piolapizzasanjuan. The best place to eat at if you're staying at the Caribe Hilton. This place is conveniently located right across from the hotel. Very friendly staff, great music and they are now building an outdoor bar/patio, which I'm looking forward to and have been told will open up soon. I have been coming here since they opened on my monthly San Juan trips and I always recommend this place to my coworkers. The place in itself is small and has only about 8 tables, hence the name, Piola Express, which is not really a sit down restaurant to spend hours at, but rather more of a "eat your pizza, enjoy your beer and go back to the hotel" kind of place. I guess that's the reason why they're building the outside patio. I've only had their pizzas but I am sure that all the other food options they offer are just as great. *Side note: They have Stella's at 2x$5 and my personal favorite BLUE MOON!!! read more

Very convenient for those staying in the Caribe Hilton, this is an excellent Italian trattoria. Service is very good and despite the tourist location, reasonably priced. Came twice - made to order calzone the first tour, garlic knots, made-to-order salad and a pepperoni pizza the second time. All was delicious and well presented. Pizza is nothing to talk about. As a Chicagoan I understand pizzas. This was not them. Also the staff were miserable in their job. Read the reviews, sounded yummy. I guess I should have stuck to pizza because I had a burger that was downright awful. It was burnt and had a very strange taste. I took 2 bites and left it. Not sure what kind of meat it was it took 1 hour 45 minutes to get dinner and I only saw 4 small tables. After asking a few times they said the cook was "catching up" from the 2 tables inside that I did not see. They also advertised a $4 drink special but for me it was $8. Maybe you had to sit at the bar I don't know I was pretty fed up and hungry when I left.
