Our three year old son flushed a diaper down the upstairs toilet. Huge mess. Ugh. The resulting water damage downstairs was huge. We removed the toilet to try and locate the glorious diaper. No dice. Here's the reason we called Pioneer: they had an ad on Google (see picture) for $55 drain cleaning and clean-out. The plumber arrived within a reasonable amount of time. He was friendly. He was professional. All good so far. He first wanted to see the clean-out drain on the side of our house. It didn't look like it would have worked for our situation. He then went upstairs and used the snake to pull out the diaper (which ended up being around 12" down the pipe). It was so close I could have "Probably reached in with your hand and pulled it out" the plumber said. He billed me $205.00. I didn't know that my wife had referenced the Google ad for $55.00 when she called and requested service. She saw the bill and asked me about it. I called Pioneer and inquired. They said since he didn't open up the clean-out and run a snake up it, but rather came inside and ran a snake 12 inches, the price shot up by $150.00. Well, the job was done. I can't complain about the plumber's professionalism. He was polite and did the job. I only took issue with the price discrepancy. I later received a phone call from their office and they confirmed with me that they would actually honor the $55.00 Google ad. That makes for happy customers when businesses do what they say. read more

Not only did this company botch a simple job to clear a line, but when returning to see why their repair didn't work, gave an outrageous estimate for ripping out the wall and all the pipes to fix the problem. And did I mention that they charged my credit card (without my authorization) to offer this estimate? And were incredibly condescending during the entire process? And still refuse to refund my money? Meanwhile, I called another plumber (Chris J. Plumbing), who said there was no need to rip out the existing plumbing. He unclogged the line very easily and it has been functioning fine ever since. NIGHTMARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 4/24/2010 We called our home warranty company and reported the leak issue in our garage. Pioneer Plumbing sent out their plumber, Hector to look into the issue. Hector took a look at the issue and he claimed that it was an issue with the "seal ring" below the drainage so he supposedly fixed that and said that there will no longer be leak. 4/27/2010 Since we noticed that there were still leaks we called Pioneer Plumbing and Hector came back to see us. My husband had to take a day off on Monday so that Hector can come in and try again to fix the leak issue, now he is telling us that the issue was from the toilet, so he supposedly replaced the seal ring on the bottom of the toilet and fixed the issue. However after he had left, we noticed there was still an issue. 5/08/2010 We called pioneer plumbing and we were told that Hector will come in on Saturday 5/08/2010 to try fix the leak issue again. The promised time frame was between 8 - 10 am, we waited until 12 Noon and nobody showed up. We called in the dispatch and told them about this, and they said that they have to rescheduled to Sunday (5/09/2010) 5/09/2010 We were promised Hector will come in and see us between 8 - 10am; however,Hector never showed up. Pioneer Plumbing was unable to find Hector because his cellphone was turned off, we find out that it was Mother's day and Hector have had family issues, so we wasted another day waiting for plumbing services. Nobody told us nor informed us about this. 5/11/2010 Hector came back on Tuesday with his supervisor (Jacob?), they did some test (not even a thorough test!) and suggests that the shower outlet was the cause of the issue. The water pressure was also said to be too strong per Jacob. So they said they need to put plumbing putty and also a new drain plug (because it is not covered by Hisco) and CHARGED me $120.00 outside of home warranty payable to Pioneer Plumbing. This time they are certain that the leak issue have been fixed. Since the issue never been fixed, Hector have to come in and reseat the toilet another day and this time he was pretty sure that fixed the issue. Apparently not. 5/15/2010 This last Saturday, Hector came in again with Jacob to fix the leak issue. Jacob insists that this is no longer plumbing issue, and that he said there is something wrong with the floor. The floor?! SERIOUSLY?! Even when I told him there's no problem with the floor. He proceed with telling me, "Honey, I've been in the business for over 20 years, I know what the issue is." (But ironically, they still don't know what the issue is and they cannot fix it). Jacob gave up and told me that Pioneer is the best in the business and if they cannot fix it, then other plumbing companies will have the same opinion. We called Jackie, the dispatch after this incident and told her that I want to file a complaint, in which Jackie stated "Go ahead and file a complain." They have tried selling us service as well as costing us time and money, with no fix whatsoever to the current leak. They also made a hole in the garage. A different plumbing company came and fixed our plumbing issue right away in less than 30 minutes. Since then... no more leaking! STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!!! read more

Called them to clear a blockage and they told me the entire sewer line needs to be replaced for approx $9000 b/c it's blocked. I previously had a video made of the sewer line and it wasn't blocked at all so I found someone else to clear the line. Find out later that the plumbers at Pioneer work on commission and earn more for every dollar you spend on their services. Avoid them. read more

RIPOFF ALERT!!! I will never call this company again. They attempted to get me to do a $3200 job when only a small repair was necessary. That was AFTER they did not show when I had taken off from work early to meet them. I thought the were friendly and customer service oriented, as when I told them I had taken off from work early and they could not get the plumber out to me until 4 hours after the appointment, they offered a free service the next day. Well, what really happened is the guy, a supervisor, came out and announced the pipe going through the wall was rotted out, they would have to tear up the wall replace the pipe, etc. It would cost up to $3200. I called another plumber who told me that was completely false. Cut off the end of the pipe which was the only part of the pipe which was rotten, installed a new trap and was out within 1 hour and under $100. Unbelievable!!! read more

DO NOT USE THIS TERRIBLE COMPANY EVER!!!!!!!!! I had an emergency broken pipe flooding my house, and this is one of the companies I called. They promised to arrive within an hour and a half - by 10am. I called multiple times once it got past 10am, and they just kept telling me that the plumber is on his way, he is almost there. The plumber did not arrive for 3 hours. Then, instead of actually fixing the problem, the plumber, Carlos, told me that because he was late for his next appt, he could only do a quick patch job (that may or may not last) until he could come back on monday for repairs. Oh and by the way, you should replace the pipes that are working perfectly fine from the street to the house for a cool $2400. Uhm, no, just come back for the $500 repair to the broken pipe. Fast forward to Monday. I took the day off work so I could be home for the repairs. I called in the morning, asking for a time estimate. Did they give me one? NO. I'll call you back they said. 2 hours later - I call again. Hey, how about a time estimate, I ask? Oh let me call Carlos, I'll call you back. 3 hours later - 3:37pm "Carlos can't make it today." Every bad plumber cliche came true. Had two issues. 1. Toilet siphoning almost nonstop. 2. Hot water barely at a trickle into the clothes washer. This company delivered a refrigerator magnet when I moved in so I thought I'd try them. You know those plumbing radio ads that refer to a "Bubba"? Well, that imitation is dead on with the Pioneer plumber. I wondered if they got the same guy for those ads. His whole attitude right from the get-go was that he didn't want to be there, was grumpy, rude, short and his beer belly was sticking out of his sweaty stained tee-shirt. He took one look at the toilet - when I say "look", I mean he stood in front of it and literally looked at it for about 2 seconds - and said, "Those toilets are crap. I won't fix it." ARE YOU KIDDING ME? So as not to waste this visit, I bring up the hot water issue with the washer. While exposing some MAJOR BUTT-CRACK, he pulled the washer out, fiddled with the connectors and said there was nothing wrong. The guy accomplished nothing. He then demanded $60. This is the part where I'm the fool. I paid this jerk. Then I called a reputable plumber - Emerald Green Plumbing in Woodland Hills. That guy happily fixed the "crap toilet" and it worked for months until I bought a new more advanced one. He then looked at the clothes washer which still had hot water at a trickle. He quickly discovered a huge amount of calcium build-up on the connector which was causing the problem (in addition to, I knew, I needed a new water heater). He swiftly cleared it and the hot water was finally at a gush. My advice is to not waste your time with this company. read more

STAY AWAY!!!!! I don't think these people are plumbers. They will try to scam you out of money that you do not need to spend on services that are not condusive to resolving the issue. I had a simple clogged drain, needed to be snaked. They tried telling me that I need a hydrojet cleaning for over $600. I knew this was a lie. The plumber tried to "cut me a deal" and "give me a break on the price", which is alarming anytime they'd like you to think you're getting preferrential treatment. I know the game and it doesn't work on me. I was disgusted by my whole experience with them. The plumber did show up on time, if I had to say anything positive. But then again, it did turn out that he's not really into plumbing, but conning people to spend money on crap they don't need. Another reviewer on here, Kevin L. summed it up perfectly - Avoid them. There are many reasons to recommend Pioneer, but the only drawback for me was the price I had to pay because I didn't have the time to shop the job thoroughly. I called 2 plumbers and the 1st didn't even test my drains properly, so when Pioneer came, they correctly diagnosed my main line clog. The technician/supervisor, Tony, was very knowledgeable and it was reassuring. The tests he performed ended up backing the water up into the bathroom, so it necessitated quick action (the next day). This rental property is old so there was no main drain cleanout. It cost me $1400 to locate the drain, dig down 3-4' under concrete and create a new drain cleanout. A large expense, but in the end, I could trust them to do an excellent job, perhaps not the cheapest, but one done professionally, quickly and effectively. read more

I have used Pioneer a half a dozen times to fix the dilapidated plumbing in my old house. My experience has been one where they were eager to please and tried their best to get the job done. They even went out of their way to check every line to make sure it was running properly. I was only charged a basic fee even though it took them 6-8 hours to get it all figured out properly. Like many other folks I was sent a Pioneer Plumber through affordablesocalplumber.com. The front page advertisement for $55 seemed like too good of an offer to pass up. Here's some things to consider: Time Frame - The website phone number is a dispatch site so they sound super professional and give you a reasonable timeline and tell you someone will call you when they are on their way. They gave me a 4-5pm window for someone to arrive. I called at 4:40pm because I hadn't heard from anyone yet. I was told they couldn't get a hold of him but he should be about 20 minutes away. A plumber showed up at 5:30pm. I really didn't care what time they showed up but maybe add a few minutes to the time they give you. Plumber - Anthony was my plumber and he deserves 5 stars (it's a shame he doesn't have his own page). He was kind, clean, and strait forward. Unfortunately, he couldn't fix the problem but he did successfully diagnose it so I don't have to pay for it all. It turned out to be a larger issue which is an HOA responsibility because I live in a condo. Value - Anthony informed me that the $55 deal is only meant for an outside main cleaning but he still honored it. When I called to schedule I specifically asked if $55 was the price for the work I was requesting and they assured me it did. It seems there's a little miscommunication. In my area a plumber is $75/hour on weekdays and $95/hour on Saturdays so depending on the work you need Pioneer may be a savings. All in all, Anthony was great and my experience was pretty good. read more

Terrible and unprofessional. I found this business thru a web search and noticed they had a coupon promotion ($55) for drain clean outs. I proceeded to book my appointment over the phone and referenced the special and asked if there were any other associated fees that I would be charged in addition to the promotional fee. I was told that there were no other hidden fees, and the promotional fee was the only charge for a drain clean out. When the plumber shows up to do the work, I tell him I have a coupon for the drain clean out. He then proceeds to argue with me that there is no plumber who would do the clean out for the coupon price. He wanted to charge me more than three times the promotional fee, and when I said no, he said he would call his supervisor. While on the phone with his supervisor I show him the coupon, and point to the words "drain cleaning" and "sewer cleaning". He then gets off the phone and proceeds to condescendingly tell me that this coupon must have expired months ago, since he's never seen or heard of such a promotion. I then point to the date I printed the coupon, which was a mere 4 days before. He then says he will charge me $125 for the clean out, to which I say no, and then walk away. He then yells for me to wait and that he'll do the job. Seriously? I have to haggle and hassle with a plumber who has no clue as to what promotions his company is offering? This is supposedly a family run and operated business, but honestly, it felt like they sent some mickey mouse sub-contractor. He couldn't even maneuver his van into the driveway so that he could use the big snake to clean out the main line. We had a drain stoppage and called Pioneer for a quick root out. After the less than polite plumber failed to do so, he quoted over $700 to jet stream it. We quickly said no thanks. While he was wrapping up, and after trampling a decorative plant by the drain, he "lost" the paint matching ceramic drain cover that was an original piece of the 1940's home. We mentioned this and his solution was to buy a cheap aluminum and rubber expansion cap for the internal threaded cap. It didnt fit and consistently leaked. Go figure. He then left in a hurry. Upon calling to have the plumber return, the rep answering the phone was nice enough to send him back to remedy the problem. His solution was to tape the interior of the threaded pipe with electrical tape and push the plug harder. Didnt work. Again, go figure. Calling the rep again, she was, this time rude and condescending. She again sent the "professional" back. After explaining to him how pipe threads work, he brought out a PLASTIC threaded cap and replaced his original replacement. We had had enough. This fix was obviously beyond his means and the company had no intent to refund us. In summation, our opinion is that this company is to be avoided at all costs. read more

This company turned out to be not good. They were great when Anthony worked there but the next guy who came out not only wanted too much but also he left something loose and then it caused a major leak. I contacted the owner to submit the damage claim to her insurance and I am awaiting hearing back. Hopefully they'll take responsibility for their bad plumber's actions (apparently he's not there anymore) but if not, I'll be either taking them to small claims court or submitting the claim to my insurance so that they can take her insurance company to court. I got referred to this company by a friend. I went on Yelp, read some of the reviews and got worried. But as I was having some drainage issues and believed I needed hydro-jetting, I didn't want to put it off any longer AND they were able to come by the same afternoon I called. Though they ended up arriving about an hour late - I was patient because it was a same day call that other companies I called couldn't do. Carlos was the lead tech and he was clear in what they were going to do. Their camera broke in the process but they promised to come back in a few days, once it was repaired/replaced and to double check the line. And they put that in writing. Based on my experience, I would recommend them. UPDATE: I am STILL waiting on them to double check the line with the camera and leave a DVD of the line. I called them a few times. They were supposed to come out and do it. But I'm still waiting. Their follow through obviously is not the best. And I hate to think they aren't telling the truth after 'putting it in writing' but here we are...months later. That's why the now get three stars. read more

I've used Pioneer Plumbing on several occasions (in Woodland Hills) over the past 10+ years from clearing sewer lines to installing water heaters. Some of the reviews say that Pioneer is the best priced. Although that may be true (I can't say I've shopped enough to say), they absolutely are fair with their pricing. The reason I call them is that they simply do a great job. Bathtub did not drain. Pioneer Plumbing came, couldn't clear with snake. replaced 10 feet of horizontal drain under the house 4 hours 15 min.for $984. That didn't work so they snaked again 3 X. Scratched the tub and left a mess. That whole process took two months and 23 phone calls. The plumber was always late and I had to show him how to cut the pipe under the house. Suggested tearing out the wall and replacing the vertical drain pipe for $4950. Today I called a different plumber who snaked the drain and cleared it in 5 minutes charging $35. Never, never ever call Pioneer Plumbing ! They took advantage of this senior citizen. read more

The team at Pioneer Plumbing are top notch. We had just fired another plumber who left a job unfinished. Pioneer came out, did a free evaluation (including underground camera work, which no one does for free), and then finished the other plumber's work and did the bigger repair at a price that was well below the original estimate I got from the first plumber. The team are exceptional - from the supervisor Carlos who first came over to Albert and Calvin who worked long and hard all day to do the perma-liner work. Also the guys who came with the liner were great as well. Not only was the sewer work done great, but the clean up they did around the property was stellar. They worked for an hour filling in dirt, hosing the sidewalks and doing the work that many customers have to do when the "work" is reportedly complete. Thank you Pioneer. I called AffordableSoCalPlumber.com and was told that a simple shower drainage stop will be $55, even without a clean out and on a higher floor of a condo building. This is a pretty competitive price among the plumbers I called. I made an appointment that same afternoon for 4-6PM and hoped it will be as good and simple as it sounded. 5PM rolled around, no plumber, and I was getting a little worried. I called the same number and was told that a plumber was already dispatched. Five minutes later, I received a call from Pioneer Plumbing telling me that a plumber can get here at 6:10PM, 10 minutes after my window. I didn't realize affordablesocalplumber was just a dispatcher, so I have no idea whether the delay was Pioneer's fault or affordablesocalplumber's fault, but either way I was not happy. Luckily, it got better from there. The plumber ended up getting here at 5:50PM. Anthony the plumber was friendly and courteous. He was nice about taking his shoes off and took great care bringing his equipment in and out of my apartment. After seeing the drain, he told me it would cost more because I don't have a clean out. I told him I had already discussed that with the dispatcher when I was given the price. Anthony agreed to go with the price previously discussed, and that was that. I can't tell if he was trying to up-sell me, but if he did, he didn't push, which I appreciate. My little drain turned out to be not so easy after all. The screws were rusted and worn out and the clog just wouldn't budge. Anthony put up a good fight and finally got it good as new. He's earned every penny of that $55. He even cleaned up the area very nicely. All in all, it wasn't 5 stars because of the delay and potential up-sell. But in the end, they still got here within 10 min of the appointment window, and didn't push on the price after I explained it was previously discussed. I was quoted a price over the phone, but after showing up 1.5 hours late was told the job was going to be more than 3x the quoted price. Mind you this guy also took a 5 minute call within 2 minutes of arriving. Living a hotel with three under 4 years old is tough to say the least. I did not feel comfortable with the first plumber who had come and was afraid that I was going to feel that way no matter what plumber it was. I did my own research and found Pioneer, I called them that night. They sent a technician out the very next day, Ralph. Ralph was so great!!! From our first meeting I felt very comfortable with him and I knew that I could trust him to help us with our situation. He was wonderful at explaining things very clearly and answering all my many questions. I had my father-in-law with me to help make sure I was asking all the right questions and Ralph was very patient with us both. Ralph checked everything out and then gave us OPTIONS! It was so great to feel like I had a choice in how I would repair my home's plumbing. He and his team did a great job fixing our pipes and they were in bad shape! Ralph gave me his number and took my calls even at night and on the weekend. He was so helpful and reassuring! I would highly recommend Pioneer plumbing to anyone having plumbing issues! What a joke! This company snaked my line before for $55 - I needed it snaked again and as soon as the guy remembered that I did not buy the service he was trying to sell me the last time, they call me back and say they will come out for $120! Give me a break!!!!! read more
