It's getting cold. Even if it wasn't November, I do recommend this place, though it's the kind of spot you go to in order to warm up. When I walked into Pipa, not going to lie I would have never gone here if my friend didn't suggest it. It's around other food spots - my favorite one being Lan Hue. The set up was so clean and well lit. It smelled of nice potpourri. Weird considering this is a hot pot place. Don't expect to smell that like after tho! I for sure smell like the broth I ordered (delicious and very potent to those who don't enjoy the aroma). My friend and I ate here for dinner. It was happy hour (5:30pm). They also have happy hour other times, I didn't focus on that tho. Now to the food. Honestly, we spent $160 - including tip. We got the 2 broths, spicy and herb. We also got the beef and lamb meats. We got the mushroom platter, shrimp tofu, quail eggs, lotus, bean curd, fried pork and lamb skewers. We for sure busted down on the meal because we finished it all. The wait staff was very attentive to the broth and my water. As I've said before I can really drink water. They had it filled all the time until we finish! I really appreciated that. The parking was okay. It's up this steep hill into the garage. The garage itself is fine, just the hill to go up into it sucks ass, so if you have a low car, beware. The staff was constantly checking on us to make sure we were doing alright. The portions were great and so was the price! We gave this place a shot since chengdu memory was slammed and we have no regrets. They had alot of options for sides and the sauce bar was $2.99 per person (which is expected). The place is easy to miss since the "Pipa Mountain Hot Pot" is written in a smaller font than "Bite of China". The inside of the restaurant seems pretty clean and spacious. I love the ring meat - its so satisfying for photos :) There are lots of sauces to choose/make and many cooked appetizers to snack on while waiting for the soup to boil. There are so many unique variety. unfortunately we were not as adventurous and opted for the basics so I can't comment on the other things like duck feet or intestines. What sets this apart from other hot pot establishments is their variety of selections like duck feet or pork aorta if that's your jam. I recommend ordering the dragonfruit shrimp paste! We ordered tomato and pork bone broth and it was flavorful. There is a self serve sauce bar that has appetizers and condiments. Service is impeccable. Despite the constant movement of customers they still provided great services by refilling our broth and assisting with any concerns. The location is a little sketchy but the food is definitely GOOD! It is on par with the other famous hotpot place nearby but the price is more reasonable. Special shout out to the 卤味 that you can eat directly or boil in the hotpot for a couple of seconds and either way tastes super good. The lemon black ice tea is also a great surprise because it is, if not better than, as good as the best lemon ice tea that I have had from professional boba places. Everything was good, but I would like to highlight their skewer selection (we got chicken gizzards... yum!), $23 beef and lamb combo (generous portion and super tender beef), and fried mantou (buns with condensed milk)... Nice new addition to the Pacific Rim Center! This particular location in the PRC seems to be particularly unlucky as no restaurant has been able to last more than a year or two. I hope this yummy hot pot place will break the curse! It is not an all you can eat place which is fine actually since the selection is huge and the quality is good. They offer some exotic cuts like aorta, omasun, duck skin feet and kidneys. Things that are not commonly found on other local hot pot menus. The high tech tablet ordering system is very efficient and appealing to those limiting awkward small talk. Went with the two broth combo, mushroom and the spicy signature broth. Great flavors on both. The beef and lamb combo is visually striking as it is served on a ring that surrounds your hot pot. The shrimp with dragonfruit paste was indeed visually striking for sure but flavor was on the mild side. Other stand out items is the lamb skewers which had that coriander powder spice that reminds me of Beijing street foods. They even have raw egg which you could mix in with your dipping sauce (risky!). The sauce bar is free which is nice although none of the items were labeled so it was a bit of guess work if your concoction would be good. They also had watermelon juice which is one of the best things to drink when your mouth is buzzing from mala spice. Service was spot on and super friendly. A very enjoyable dinner experience at the Pacific Rim Building in International District. if you're looking for an authentic hot pot, you won't be disappointed. The atmosphere and decor was great which makes your experience even more satisfying. First concern for people would be the location but it's easy access with underground parking free for the first 2 hrs. This place is open til 1am so will be a hot spot for late diners. There was a security guard when we there that roams the parking lot too which will ease your mind. We came on a Friday night and had a little wait, 30 min for a party of 5. But we are very pleased and was well worth the wait! First off service is top notch. Everyone is very attentive and helpful without being annoying. One server stood out, his name is Don-Ji. He made our dinner extra enjoyable and my family left there extra full and filled with happiness. A must have is the meat ring! Your choice of all beef, all lamb, or split. We added the Wagyu beef as well as the Dragon Fruit Shrimp Paste. Both are phenomenal. Shrimp paste was freshly prepared and had a slight sweet node from the dragonfruit. For dessert we added on the donuts with condensed milk. We devoured those but asked for extra condensed milk since it comes with 6 buns because who doesn't want more condensed milk for dipping?? Based on my only visit, very good. Many options of broths, I went with golden chicken and some spicy one that I forgot the flavor of. They have several levels of spice, none, mild, normal, and then one or two higher levels. As an individual lacking in melanin the normal level spice was almost too much for me I would get the mild next time. Their selection of meat is huge and they all taste fairly similar I'm assuming because the broth flavors them, the main difference between the ones I had was fat levels affecting texture/tenderness. The meat did fall apart pretty easily in the broth except for the beef tongue which stayed whole but was also more stiff, it also had the most distinct flavor out of all the meats that we had. Staff was polite. Orders are taken through a tablet left at the table, and the heating elements don't buzz loudly like the induction ones at some hotpot spots. Unless people are talking it's quiet there. I recommend not getting the duck heads. Even though they're cheap and taste pretty good, you're doing a ton of picking at the faces to get meat, I was taking that shit apart for probably 15 minutes for a total maybe an ounce of meat. The brains don't taste bad but it's not something you crave later. read more
