We had our heart set, so we braved the parking lot and the quoted 1-1.5hr wait (actual wait time: 53 minutes). Greatly appreciate the staff member who took drink orders while we waited as a martini eases the time waiting! Plus, they had a hydration station with water that is much needed in our Arizona heat - thank you! Our server Alex was phenomenal and provided great insights with recommendations. We greatly appreciate it as it was both of ours first time visiting this establishment to try the Arizona Restaurant Week specials. For my 1800th review on Yelp, I couldn't think of a more fitting review - Arizona Restaurant Week helping me venture out to try somewhere new (the Yelp way)! Lastly regarding the experience, it was quite loud due to it being busy, so appreciate Alex repeating somethings over. Thanks for the great service to make this a great night out! What We Ordered: ~ Onward and Upward (Non-alcoholic): my boyfriend enjoyed the flavor, but wild to think a NA drink is $15! He said likely not a do over. ~ Dirty Vodka Martini + Blue Cheese-stuffed Olives: the first outside was not as good as the one at the table. I'd definitely buy another when returning, especially dining in as the olives were delicious. ~ Fresh Pull-Apart Dinner Rolls: very delicious, and we enjoyed! Definitely a splurge as the price point was $12 for 5 rolls. I did find myself wishing they were served with a nice French butter or even a honey cinnamon butter, which would elevate these and help me justify the price point. ~ Arizona Restaurant Week which included a starter, entree, and the selected dessert (boyfriend: Oysters + Sushi selection and me: Caesar Salad + blackened Texas Redfish): Both my boyfriend and I throughly enjoyed and thought it was well worth the $55 per guest price point. Standouts for him were the oysters and sushi, stating they were very fresh. My standout was the delicious redfish, and the sushi as I tried some of his. Everything was fresh and flavorful! We left talking about when we can return for their actual menu versus restaurant week. Love finding great local places via Arizona Restaurant Week. If in the area, stop by this location!

I ordered the fried tilapia with jollof rice and plantains, and I was pleasantly surprised... actually, thoroughly impressed. From the moment the food came out, everything looked and smelled incredible. They even brought out complimentary fried bread with a tomato dipping sauce, which was such a nice touch. The tilapia was seasoned perfectly and cooked just right--crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and no fishy smell at all. You can tell it was prepared with real care. The jollof rice was flavorful, rich, and moist with a delicious tomato base, and the plantains were the perfect balance of sweet. What really stood out to me was how well-balanced everything was. The sauces paired beautifully with the fish, and every bite just worked. I was so impressed that I asked to meet the chef just to personally thank her. You can truly taste the love in the food. I'll definitely be coming back--and next time, I'm bringing family and friends!

While I was waiting, the owner came out with a complimentary app for me to snack on (fried cassava (??) balls w a tangy sweet/salty sauce). Ooooohweee the fish was so tasty, crispy, and well-seasoned I literally cleaned the fish to the bone (it did not die in vain). Texture was great, very fresh. Red snapper was an up charge, but even though I didn't try the tilapia, I think it was worth. Plantains and Jollof rice were fantastic as well. Owner was so nice, came to check in a couple times, and applauded my appetite. Will be back to try to fufu! And get that delicious snapper again!!

The onion is still crunchy and they are never greasy. This time I shared the Steak & Cheese sandwich as well. Wow! That is huge and delicious! No way I could eat a full one on my own. The meat was so tender with American cheese, onions, mushrooms and green peppers. My only adjustment would be lighter on the peppers and a little more mushrooms. The place is clean and friendly. Don't let the Mesa strip mall keep you away. After eating, check out the produce market across the street for some great deals!

First things first, it was hot in the restaurant, potentially the A/C was not working as well as it should have been or something, but it was not super comfortable. The service was good, I didn't get her name, a younger woman waited on me and she was very kind and did the best she could. The food came out super slow, I ordered empanadas to start, the waitress said they burned the first order (I appreciated that didn't just serve me overdone empanadas lol) once they finally arrived they were just unfortunately bland, and just kind of lacked authenticity. When she finally brought out my main dish, she even apologized for the wait and said "I had to go yell at them". For a main entree I ordered the French dip with onion rings, another reviewer mentioned they were the best they had had. The meat was kind of tough and dry (which is odd for a French Dip, and everything just lacked flavor. Even the au jus really had no kind of salt or much flavor to it. I really hoped after seeing how everyone else rated this place that I had found that little hole in the wall spot putting out killer food that we all long for, sadly this wasn't it.

The first time I tried it with the miso soup base and the second time, I got the tom yum spicy soup base. The miso was very light and almost bland, to be honest. I didn't love it. The tom yum spicy, which was recommended by the staff, had more flavor. It was much better. However, I tried my husband's sichuan spicy and liked that more. If and when we return, I will definitely get the sichuan spicy base. The seafood mini hot pot for one at $25.95 has plenty of seafood in it. There's a crab leg, mussels, clams, calamari, and more. I have yet to finish an entire hot pot in one sitting. The restaurant has a large dining room and offers plenty of seating. Service was fast and friendly at both visits.

We came in with our family and three kids and sat on the patio since we were a larger group. After eating, our kids were sitting in chairs near our table, chatting and moving around a bit. They weren't being loud or disruptive, but a nearby a couple clearly seemed upset. The woman was shaking her head and saying to the waitress "this isn't okay to be doing while people are eating", pointing toward our kids. Once I realized this, I immediately called my kids back over and had them sit with us, and I even let her know that if something was bothering her, she could've told us and I would have addressed it right away. The couple chose to ignore us and left shortly after. The manager then came out and reassured us that Lucky Lou's is a family-friendly restaurant and that our kids were absolutely fine. That meant a lot to us and really showed how supportive and understanding the staff is. I also hope one day that couple realizes how hard it is to keep a 4-, 6-, and 8-year-old sitting at a table for more than 30 minutes without shoving an iPad in front of them. On top of that, the service was excellent, the atmosphere was welcoming, and I honestly had the best burger and tater tots of my life. We'll definitely be back--thank you for creating such a kid-friendly and enjoyable place for families!
